As I sat on the dew cowered grass before the silent, sleeping bodies of Astra and Blair, the moon was only beginning its descent into the endless horizon. Their bodies looked so peaceful, yet frustration and worry filled their faces. Was this worry for the likes of a weak individual such as myself? It saddened me that I was the cause of such expressions. However, all at the same time, happiness emerged from the depths of my soul. All of my memories with them leapt forth from the surface of my mind into my vision. Like the first time I met Blair, and how she scared the living shit out of me. Even that one starry night, that I ran into Astra by the mere chance of one string of fate leading to another. For a moment, I stopped myself and thought about the girl I left behind. I'm so tired; God, what was her name? Ismene, or something? I do not know. I'm the epitome of indecisiveness. My eye lids began to close subtly, and deep slumber came from its hiding to consume me immediately.
It was almost sunrise when I fell asleep, but I apparently began to dream instantly. The stars skipped beneath my feet; while the moon and sun danced in the sky above me. The energy of the universe flowed quietly and efficiently among all that existed. Comets soared in the void of space, giving its darkness an ethereal glow that transcended reality. But, above all of that, there was a being in front of me. I believed it to be the same one as before. I was unable to fully tell, everything about him was indescribable. His words will still overpowering to hear, but it was a lot clearer this time around. "It's been quite a while, Drew." He turned and raised his hands in front of himself. The stars raised up and formed themselves into a bright and majestic chair: one fitted for a king, maybe even a god. In one full turn, he calmly sat himself in the seat. Then, with another motion of his hand, a chair formed underneath of me and was pushed into my legs, causing me to sit down.
I sat silently, not knowing much to say. For all I truly knew, this could be some exhaustion-induced vision into my subconscious. But, then again, logic would state that this world was a fake. "Yes, it has been. What was your name again?"
"The people that have met have all called me different things. My creators called my Alpha Overseer. Originally, after my creators passed on, the name of Sight stuck. But, when the cycle of life restarted, I was given the respect of 'Gaia'. Now, I call myself Bishop."
What did he mean by when the cycle of life started over? Even through jogging my mind vigorously, I was not very sure. "Well, what am I doing here?"
"I needed a good-hearted individual to fulfill a goal for me. So, I happened to see you come along and I knew you would be perfect for the job."
"What do you mean? I've been here for months now, without any direction whatsoever besides the stupid saying of 'find the wise one' or whatever, and now you come along and tell me what I am to do? Why not just tell me at the very beginning." My temples began to throb with pain.
He shuffled in his seat, uncomfortably. "I had sent an… associate in the beginning to locate and lead you. Apparently, Ismene had gotten very lost when I sent her originally."
"Ismene?" I cocked my head. "She was supposed to be with me from the beginning? Well, that's nice to hear…" The irony in my thoughts must have bled into my word, for Bishop's expression grew confused.
"What's the matter?" He asked me diligently.
I shifted uncomfortably. "I, uh, kind of left her behind during the night: to find my friends."
"Oh, that's fine! Do not worry about it, I can fix this. Besides," He looked at the strange fixture on the wall. It was a planet, presumably the one my body was on, with a sun and moon circling it slowly. "It's time for you to get going anyways."
As my vision returned from the dream realm to my real body, I noticed a few things. The smile on his face seemed so kind-hearted and benevolent to everything, but his eyes lacked any kind of warmth. Rather, they watched and calculated. My heart, soul, and mind froze over due to the overwhelming wintriness bleeding from those dark eyes. I had to look away, so I focused on the clock-like object mounted to the invisible wall. It was a planet, being surrounded by a sun and a moon similar to that of a diagram normally seen in an astrology book, only real time. However, one thing did bother me. The planet looked so similar to the earth in which I came from.
"Fuck! Damn it, Bishop! You knew you should not have left anything to Ismene! We are running out of time, and here she is, letting the 'hero' run off right under her damned nose! What a fool. It's against my coding to directly intervene, but it seems that I really need to this time around." I reached into the fabrics of reality and pulled up a map of present day Earth. The world was so densely populated, it was quite ridiculous. Luckily, it seemed that Drew and company are in a relatively uninhabited area. I looked forth and grabbed Drew. Sure enough, he was right at the feet of those damned nuisances, Blair and Astra. I moved him hastily to where Ismene was sleeping. She's going to need some discipline after this. "No, no, no! Ismene is the only pawn I have, I cannot afford to risk losing her. Hmm, I've got it!" There's no need to worry. Drew's an idiot; he'll believe that everything he saw was a dream! I've never seen a human so unwilling to question reality.
From the ground underneath me, I spawned a large table. Onto this table, I spilled the inner workings of my mind. There was a large assortment of maps. I grabbed two at a time to speed up the process. The ones that were not needed I expelled back into the realms of my mind. Eventually, I came upon the two maps I was searching for. One was of the areas on top of the mountain, depicting the entrance into the 'temple'. I laughed silently to myself. These Pokémon are so much easier to fool than the humans were. The other was the inside of the mountain. I searched silently for a few moments, this map was immersive detailed. Eventually, I spotted the large room with the note 'Earthen Astrological Defense System'. This was where I needed to get Drew by the end of the week. Otherwise, it'll be the end of my existence.
When Blair and I finally came to, we found an odd sight. There appeared to be an imprint in the dew near us. Could it have been Drew?
"Well, what do you think?" I asked Blair excitedly.
She sighed, "Even if it was him, where did he go? The tracks lead to right here," She pointed to the largest imprint, "where he appears to have sat; but then, nothing at all. There's also no way that he just back tracked perfectly, because the marks were already beginning to become completely dew again."
We were both left dazed and confused by the occurrence, but we both decided to move on. There was no reason to follow the prints; they looked like they went absolutely no where.
When I woke up, I was not greeted by the sight of Blair and Astra. Rather, by a kind good morning from Ismene. Weird, last night had felt so real. Perhaps that was just a long dream? Would that include the weird part with that person? What was his name again…? Ah, it does not really matter. It's time to move on. I looked to where I had (or at least thought I had) walked to last night. There was no trail leading towards it, nor were there any signs of a fire. I felt disappointed. All I wanted to do was see Blair and Astra again. But, why would they want to see me? I practically abandoned them, being the idiot that I am. The morning went by hastily. Ismene kept pushing me towards this mountain, for no particular reason. Because of her, I couldn't get away to look at the place my dream led to. Something kept telling me I was wrong: that there was something there. Nothing seemed to be consistent anymore. We were already half way up the mountain. I kept looking behind myself, but never got the chance to see anything worthwhile. I really want to know where those two have gone.
Eventually, I let my mind focus enough to look at my surroundings more. This mountain didn't seem natural whatsoever. There were random, steep cliffs. There was little flowing water, and there seemed to be very little dirt. The grass here was not as bright as it should be, and it felt very dry to me. And, after a while of walking, there seemed to be a perfect path carved into the mountain. That would have been normal, if there was any Pokémon on this mountain. However, I have yet to see just one.
HIATUS IS OVER! Yeah, I've been busy as fuck for the last month or two. Like, holy shit. It's been really difficult. However, on this Christmas day, I present you with another chapter of The Island. I thank all of you for not leaving my story despite its recent inactivity. Seriously though, I probably would have left. Hopefully the chapter was awesome for you people!
Follow/Favorite! Thanks, much appreciated!
Also, if you don't celebrate Christmas then here: Happy Holidays! (I may update again on New Years or so, just keep on checking or so). Also, I do have a fiction press account and I do plan on creating many stories with it. I like fan fiction, but sometimes I have a good idea for an original. Soon enough, I'll put a link up!
