Yuina hummed to herself as she swept around the kitchen. She sighed halfway through when she realized she was humming the melody again.
"Why can't I get this tune out of my head?" She thought annoyed. "I don't want to get too involved with this. I took this job to work with kids, not make music." She leaned on her broom and thought about it some more. "Although, it is a really good melody. I could see doing things like chores to it." She shook her head with a smile, deciding to give in to her better thoughts and allowed herself to hum some more as she continued to sweep.
"Pretty!" she suddenly heard Shinako say.
"Oh Shinako," she said turning around to look at the girl standing in the kitchen doorway, "What are you doing here? I thought you were in music room playing."
"Sing more!" Shianko ordered pointing at Yuina, "Sing more."
"Well okay," Yuina as she kept humming. Shinako giggled and clapped her hands.
"So pretty!" she said over and over again.
"Thank you, I'm glad you like it," Yuina said, "I kind of fixed it yesterday with your daddy's friend Otoya."
"Sing more," Shinko insisted.
"Okay, okay," Yuina said as she hummed some more and swept.
"Singing really does help make things like chores go faster huh?" she thought. In no time she all done sweeping the kitchen and in the process of putting the broom away.
"That was fun actually," Yuina said out loud as she finished up, "I should do that more often huh Shinako?"
"Mommy!" Shinako said smiling brightly.
Yuina sighed at hearing the little girl cal her that. She walked over to little girl and knelt down in from of her. "Listen sweetie, I think it's super cute that you keep calling me that a little, but you really have to stop that. I'm not your mother. I'm just your friend. okay, who was hired to look after you. So could you please stop referring to me as your mother and maybe just call me Yuina or even Yui if it's easier?"
Shinako looked at her confused before replying, "Mommy."
Yuina sighed again. "I give up!" she said in defeat, even though she did allow herself a small chuckle over the whole thing.
Yuina and Shianko kept working and signing to all through the day. It made the day seem to fly by in a happy way.
"Wow, this house actually looks a lot cleaner than it's been when I cleaned before," Yuina commented looking around, "What do you think Shinako? You think it looks cleaner than before?"
"Nice!" was all Shinako said, still smiling.
"I'll take that," said Yuina.
Just then the front door burst opened. "Okay we're home, let's get to work!" Kazu immediately said as he and Rui came into their house.
"Oh welcome home Kazu. Yes we did have a good day," said Yuina sarcastically.
"Hi, good to know! Let's get going already!" Kazu said. He quickly dumped his backpack off at the door and hurried off towards the music room.
"Boy that kid has a one tracked mind," Yuina said.
"He's like Daddy when it comes to things like that," said Rui.
"I see, well he'll just have to wait until we get you to take your medicine," said Yuina leading Rui to the kitchen.
"Right," Rui said not sounding too thrilled of the notion.
"Let's just do this," said Yuina as she started to assemble the different pills and helping Rui to take them. They were just about done when Kazu suddenly came into the kitchen.
"Come on, what's taking you so long?!" he asked annoyed.
"We're almost done, be patient," said Yuina. "Oh by the way, I spoke to your daddy's friend Otoya last night Otoya and he gave e a few notes on how to improve what we worked on yesterday." She handed Kazu the notes.
"Hmm, good work Otoya!" Kazu said. "Come on let's work on it!"
"Okay, Okay,," Yuina said, "Rui, are you feeling okay?"
"Yeah," Rui said, "I can't wait to make these changes and add more!"
"Now who has a one tracked mind?" Yuina muttered to herself. However she still allowed herself to work on the song, adding the changes she and Otoya had done. "So now what?"
"We add on, duh," Kazu said.
"Like what?" Yuina asked.
"Can't you feel it?" Kazu asked.
"Feel it?" Yuina repeated.
"That's what Cecil would describe it when Mommy was working on music," Rui explained, "It was the muses were working through her."
"Cecil, he was like that foreign guy in the group right, like the prince or something?" Yuina asked.
"Mmmhmm," said Rui nodding, "I miss him."
"What happened to him?" Yuina asked.
"He went back to his home country after Mommy died and STARISH broke up," Rui told her.
"Oh, I see," said Yuina, "Well then let's see if I can feel anything from the muses."
"You did a good job yesterday," said Kazu.
"Hmm," Yuina muttered. She hit one of the keys and then she hit it again, repeatedly. She started to glide her hands across the piano hitting some more keys together. "What do you kids think?"
"It's working, it's working!" Kazu said happily, "Write it down quickly."
"Yes, yes," Yuina said. She and the kids continued to spend the rest of the day as they had before, adding more to the song.
"Wow, this is really coming together," said Yuina once they came to the end.
"Yeah, it's awesome!" Kazu said.
"It's great!" said Rui.
"Like!" Shinako said.
"Yes, yes," Yuina said with a smile. "I'll go make a few copies of what we did today in case I can show Otoya this and see if he wants to work on it. Then it's time to start on dinner and out of the room since you're dad will be home soon."
Tokiya couldn't get the tune he was sure he heard today. It was too similar to the tune that gave him nightmares since the last he heard something similar was the day he lost Haruka.
"Could Otoya have come up with a melody similar to the one Haruka had been working on? No, he's good but not as good as Haruka and couldn't have come up with something like that on his own," he thought. "Maybe I heard it wrong all together. And maybe I should just put this out of my mind."
As he came into the house was happy not have to hear any kind of music coming from anywhere. The only sound he could hear was some noise from the kitchen, no doubt from Yuina cooking dinner. He could also hear Rui talking.
"...and then we're going to give the princess mommy's hair color okay Shinako?"
"Color hair!" Shinako insisted.
Tokiya came up behind the couch where he saw his two girls coloring. "What are you girls working on?" he asked.
"Oh hi Daddy," Rui said looking up at him.
Shinako got up and hurried over to him, wrapping her arms around his leg. "Daddy!" she cheered.
"Hi honey," Tokiya said patting her head.
"I'm doing homework Daddy, see?" Rui said holding up a picture of a prince and princess, "Our teacher told us to come up with our own fairy tale characters. Tomorrow we're going to try and come up with a story to go with it."
"Oh nice," said Tokiya, "Is your brother working on his homework?"
"Yeah, after Miss Kyouou said he had to go get started on dinner, he went right to his room to do it," said Rui.
"Good," said Tokiya, "Did you take your pills?"
"Yes Dad," said Rui.
"Good," said Tokiya before moving off to the kitchen, making sure to pick up Shinako go he could walk. He came into the kitchen and saw Yuina hard at work as usual.
"Oh hello sir, welcome home," Yuina said when she saw him.
"Hello," said Tokiya, "How did everything go today?"
"Just fine sir," said Yuina. However she stopped when she remembered something. "Um sir, do you think you can have a talk with your daughter over calling me mommy?"
"She's still calling you that?" Tokiya asked looking at her. Shinako just smiled at him.
"I think it's cute and all, but I don't want to confuse the little girl," Yuina explained.
"You're right, I'll try talking to her," Tokiya said looking at Shinako. Yuina noticed his face looked a little disturbed.
"Um sir, is everything okay?" she asked.
"It's nothing," Tokiya insisted.
"Are you sure sir?" Yuina kept asking.
"Well I thought I heard something today that reminded me of my late wife. Some sort of melody that I'm sure she was working on before, before she died. I'm almost certain Otoya was playing some of it," Tokiya finally admitted.
"Otoya?" Yuina said trying to hide the nervousness in her voice.
"Yeah, though I'm not 100% sure. It's been so long since something of hers was made," said Tokiya.
"Well you know, maybe it wasn't what you thought it was," said Yuina.
"I should hope not. That melody gives me nightmares, having to remember the day," Tokiya stopped in mid-sentence, "I just don't like listening to it."
"Oh sure," Yuina said, "I uh should get back to the dinner."
"Right I'll let you be," said Tokiya walking out with Shinako.
"Mommy," Shinkoa said as she was carried out.
"You and I really do have to talk don't we?" Tokiya said.
Yuina wiped some sweat from her forehead. She wasn't sure if it was from the cooking or if it was from the nervousness she felt over the idea of what or how Tokiya would react to if he knew she, his kids and Otoya really were working on his late wife's work. "I don't know if I can keep doing something like behind my boss's back!" she thought.
Yuina pondered the notion as she drove home. She hit her steering wheel over and over again thinking about. On the one hand, doing something like this was helping her bond with the kids and making both them and Otoya happy that they could bring Haruka's work to life once last time. On the other hand it was wrong to do this to her boss. If anything, he had the most say when it comes to working on such a thing. This is his wife's work after all. Both legally and emotionally, it was and should be his call. "Why did I have to let myself get into the middle of this thing?" she thought.
She was so distracted, she almost didn't see Otoya's car pulling into the parent's parking lot, followed closed by another car. "What's he up to?" Yuina thought as she too pulled into the parking lot.
"Did you bring it Masato?" Otoya asked as he and Masato each got out of their cars.
"Yes off course," Masato said as he walked over to his trunk and pulled out his keyboard. "Do you think there's a place in the restaurant I can sit this up?"
"Uh well," Otoya said.
"Do you even know if Miss Kyouou was coming by today?" Masato asked.
"Uh no," Otoya admitted.
"Oh this was a bad idea," Masato said as he got ready to put the keyboard back into the trunk.
"Mr. Ittoki, Mr. Hijirikawa, what are you doing here?" the two suddenly heard Yuina ask.
"Oh look she is here," said Otoya.
"What are you two doing here? What's going on?" Yuina asked confused, "What is that exactly?"
"It's one of my keyboards," Masato said.
"One of?" Yuina asked.
"I have many different musical instruments," Masato replied.
"Okay but why did you bring one here?" Yuina asked.
"I may have told Masato about your song and he got curious about it. So he thought he'd come and join us," Otoya explained.
"Really, you want on this too?" Yuina asked.
"Very much if you don't mind," said Masato.
"Well, no I supoed not, if you're up to it," said Yuina, "Come on, I know the perfect place to help set this up in the restaurant," Yuina said leading the two men to the front door.
'Oh god why did I just agree to this? I'm geting in even deeper!" Yuina suddenly thought.
