Clair begins her battle with her Gyarados that she had captured at the lake of rage.
" The same Gyarados back at lake of rage, huh?" Gold reached for his pokeball and also released his Gyarados.
" I brought mine in case, looks like this will be a good test!" Gold said with his roaring Gyarados.
" You mean you haven't had the chance to test out your Gyarados' strength and you expect to go against me, a dragon trainer?" Clair stated.
" She's serious." Crystal thought.
" Hey, I'm a natural Clair, Gyarados and I will work it out, you'll see!" Gold challenged.
" Er um, what moves does it have again?" Gold now unsure of his plan of attack.
" Fine then, I'll show you, Gyarados dragon breath!" Clair attacked while Gold's Gyarados awaited it's orders.
" Let's see, ahh ehhh!" Gold reacted to Gyarados being attacked by dragon breath before coming up with an attack.
" Hey Clair, that was cheap!" Gold called.
" You think the elite four or even my brother would just let you prepare for an attack in the middle of a battle, you better get serious or you'll never be champion!" Clair belittled.
" What's with you?!" Gold argued.
" Mistake number two, slam!" Clair ignored and attacked.
" Gyarados, go underwater!" Gold instructed.
Gyarados dived underwater avoiding the incoming water slam from enemy Gyarados.
" Alright, Gyarados is a water/flying type but it has no flying moves?" Gold thought.
" Bite attack!" Clair said.
" Yikes, uhh Gyarados, attack with hydro pump!" Gold said.
Gold's Gyarados attacked with a powerful underwater hydro pump that missed by several degrees thanks to Clair's Gyarados grace underwater and was bitten by it.
" Damn, Gyarados shake it off with thrash!" Gold said.
Gold's Gyarados shook violently to get the enemy Gyarados off it and dealt little damage in the process.
" Now, try that dragon breath from earlier!" Gold remembered from Clair's earlier attack.
" Twister!" Clair said. Enemy Gyarados consumed Gold's Gyarados in a underwater dragon vortex that had sent it above water, crashing it near Gold in total defeat.
" Gyarados!" Gold called out.
" That was embarrassing.." Crystal commented to herself.
" You need to train harder with that Gyarados or you would've realized it's dragon attacks could've stood a chance, Ethan!" Clair harshly advised.
" I had no idea about it's dragon properties, I was a fool." Gold thought.
" Sorry Gyarados about that, I promise I'll work with you to get you the best you can be." Gold returned Gyarados as Clair also did the same.
" Dragonair, come on out!" Clair released her long time Pokemon partner.
" Now this will be tough to choose against." Gold thought since he knows all well about her Dragonair's strength.
" Scizor, It's up to you be careful!" Gold counters with Scizor who is raring to go.
" Dragonair, aqua tail attack!" Clair said.
" Duck and metal claw it!" Gold said.
Dragonair's aqua tail missed the ducking Scizor and took damage from Scizor's hard hitting metal claw.
" It will take more than that, Ethan, dragon breath!" Clair said.
" Double team!" Gold said.
Scizor's increased evasiveness made it hard for Clair's dragonair's dragon breath make contact.
" Now use the confusion of double team and attack with fury cutter!" Gold said.
Scizor had continuously attacked with fury cutter at Dragonair who couldn't land an attack thanks to the camouflaging double team effect but Clair still stood unfazed.
" Is this what you really got Ethan, my faith in you has been misplaced after all." Clair shared her disappointment.
" What?!" Gold reacted to Clair's harsh words.
" Dragonair, thunderwave!" Clair ordered.
Dragonair waited for Scizor to come around for another pass and had paralyzed Scizor when it had been spotted.
" Now, aqua tail!" Clair attacked.
Dragonair's aqua tail water slapped Scizor against the gym wall with Scizor practically defenseless.
" Rush it, Dragonair!" Clair instructed.
" Scizor, try hitting it with metal claw once it get close enough!" Gold chanced.
Scizor was confined to it's paralysis and was at the mercy of Dragonair's binding.
" This is bad." Crystal thought.
" Now, fire blast!" Clair surprising Gold and Crystal.
" Fire blast?!" Gold repeated.
" Watch out, Scizor!" Gold warned to no avail.
Dragonair's fire blast was fired at point blank and since Scizor was steel/bug type, it was no surprise it was done in.
" Why did you come here if your wits can't compare to your father's?!" Clair shouted.
" Where is your desire to be champion, are you willing to let your father, your mother, Kris or me down?!" Clair now putting Gold in a shock.
" I will not let you down, father, I will become a legend like you!" Gold recalling what he had promised to Yamato.
" Where is your heart or are your promises hollow?!" Clair goaded.
" Shut up!" Gold exclaimed and gritted his teeth.
" That's enough, Clair, I told you that I will show you why I'll become champion and the show starts now!" Gold clicked his pokeball.
" And I'll show that not even you get in my way of being the best!" Gold released Typhlosion.
" Show me then!" Clair challenged.
" Typhlosion, flamethrower!" Gold said.
" Dragonair, fire blast!" Clair said.
Before the fire attacks could clash, Clair noticed Gold's right eye was the same eye of Typhlosion.
" What?!" Clair thought.
" His eye!" Crystal thought.
Typhlosion's flamethrower easily pushed back Dragonair's fire blast and consumed Dragonair completely in a above average level flamethrower attack.
" Could it be?!" Clair thought about Gold's eye.
Clair's Dragonair could not bear the heat and was defeated in one move by Gold's powered up Typhlosion.
Clair looked once more into Gold's right eye to see that it reverted back to his own eye and apparently does not realize what has happened, neither does Typhlosion.
" Even your Dragonair can't stand the fire we hold inside to be the best!" Gold said.
Typhlosion then started to breathe heavy without it knowing why.
" Typhlosion, what's wrong?" Gold asked his weary Typhlosion.
" Surely flamethrower didn't take that much of a toll, did it?" Gold asked once more.
" He's not even aware of what just happened, even a simple attack from an untrained resonated attack will drastically tire the Pokemon." Clair thought.
" Ethan, don't you think you should switch out Typhlosion?" Clair suggested.
" Typhlosion, can you go on?" Gold asked.
Typhlosion tried to show bravado but collapsed from it's exhaustion.
" Alright Typhlosion, that's enough take a break, we'll get you looked at later, kay buddy?" Gold returns the reluctant Typhlosion.
" I bet that's the beginning of the resonation technique Ethan's mom told us about." Crystal made a mental note to self still amazed of Gold's brief eye change.
" You still have got a lot of work to do with your Pokemon, Ethan." Clair said.
" Hey, we made it this far Clair, don't count us out yet!" Gold enlarged his next pokeball.
" I wonder about that." Clair also enlarging her pokeball.
" Glaceon, Espeon!" Gold and Clair simultaneously summoning their evolved Eevees.
" So, your Eevee also evolved too?" Gold examined his opposing Espeon.
" I'm amazed you got an Glaceon, certainly a death nail to my dragon types but luckily I got an psychic type to deal with it." Clair said.
" Glaceon can take your Espeon any which way!" Gold declared.
" We'll see then, psybeam Espeon!" Clair teed off.
" Icy wind!" Gold countered. Espeon's psybeam attacked Glaceon while also taking damage from the breezy icy wind.
" Swift attack!" Clair said.
" Glaceon, use ice shard!" Gold ordered Glaceon to spew shards of ice hurling towards Espeon.
The stars from swift attack reduced the ice shards to mere snowflakes and once more attacked Glaceon.
" Okay, use agility and bite it with ice fang, Glaceon!" Gold said.
" Espeon, stop it with your confusion!" Clair retaliated.
Glaceon's high speed dash was impossible for Espeon's repeated confusion attack to land and had bitten it with a frozen fang.
" Shadow ball!" Clair said.
" Let go!" Gold warned.
Espeon forcefully fired Glaceon off with it's shadow ball attack.
" Clair sure can think fast, better stay on your guard, Ethan." Crystal thought.
" Shadow ball again!" Clair said.
" Deflect it back with mirror coat!" Gold checkmated as Glaceon deflected the shadow ball back.
Gold's quick thinking allowed super effective damage to Espeon but the battle was not yet over.
" They both can think fast!" Crystal thought. " Ready for final attack, Espeon!" Clair said as an pinkish glow outlined Espeon's body.
" Make it hail!" Gold said. Glaceon had the entire arena in a hail storm as the pink glow had disappeared from Espeon.
" Quick attack!" Clair and Gold commanded.
Espeon and Glaceon both dashed and attacked each other at high speeds continuously, wearing each other down until they had to catch their breath.
" Anytime, now." Clair thought.
" Glaceon, hit Espeon with blizzard!" Gold said.
" Cancel out and attack with psychic!" Clair countered.
Glaceon's powerful blizzard was held at bay by the psychic attack by Espeon until golf sized hail struck Espeon, breaking it's concentration.
This allowed Glaceon's blizzard attack to breakthrough and knockout Espeon but moments later, Espeon's future sight attack had come and also knocked Glaceon out cold next to it's sibling, Espeon.
" Future attack?" Gold said.
" Never let your guard down not even for a moment or you'll never get past me..!" Clair said.
" Don't underestimate what I can do Clair, I've come too far to fall short now." Gold shot back.
" Get some well deserved rest, Glaceon." Gold returned the weary Glaceon.
" This next match up will the last as well as a tag battle, do you accept, Ethan?" Clair called from her corner.
" I accept, Clair!" Gold agreed.
" Then I'll make my team of Gyarados and Kingdra!" Clair re-summoned her well rested Gyarados and her newly evolved Kingdra.
" A Kingdra?!" Gold said.
" So her Seadra evolved, it's beautiful!" Crystal commented.
" Alright from one tough team to another, I'll go with Steelix and Ampharos!" Gold counters with a team of his own.
Glaceon's hail storm still lingered which had attacked Ampharos normally and Steelix, Gyarados and Kingdra with very little effect.
" Damn, I forgot about that hail storm from earlier, it shouldn't last too much longer." Gold thought.
" I'll just have to go for the obvious victim." Gold thought eying Gyarados.
" Ampharos, use thunderbolt on Gyarados!" Gold said.
" Dragon pulse it away, Kingdra!" Clair said.
Kingdra deflected thunderbolt away towards the ceiling that dropped heavy rock which separated Ampharos and Steelix.
" That dragon pulse has got some power and strong wind too!" Gold thought.
" Gyarados, hydro pump Ampharos!" Clair said.
" Steelix, protect Ampharos and attack with iron tail!" Gold said.
Steelix thrusted through the hydro pump easily and attacked Gyarados with iron tail.
" Trap those two using whirlpool attack, Kingdra!" Clair instructed.
Kingdra took a deep breath, created a large whirlpool that had confined also damaging Steelix and Ampharos.
Glaceon's hail storm attacked both parties one last time and had subsided.
" Ampharos, er um I can't have you use electrical attacks just yet, raise the teams defense with reflect!" Gold said.
The damage Steelix and Ampharos were taking in the water vortex was being reduced thanks to reflect.
" Gyarados, dragon breath the vortex!" Clair said.
Gyarados dragon breath mixed in with the whirlpool and had attacked both Steelix and Ampharos.
" Damn!" Gold reacted.
" Now freeze the whirlpool with ice beam, Kingdra!" Clair said.
Kingdra's ice cold beam had frozen the whirlpool and Gold's pokemon into complete helplessness.
" What will you do now, Ethan?" Clair challenged.
Gold remained level headed and thought of a solution out.
" Steelix, hyper beam the vortex and Ampharos attack with thunder!" Gold shocking both Clair and Crystal.
" Kingdra!" Clair called.
Steelix shattered the frozen whirlpool into piece while Ampharos knocked out Gyarados super effective style, leaving Kingdra still in the fight.
" I'm sorry, Steelix." Clair thought.
" Kingdra, return the hyper beam back to Steelix!" Clair checkmated Gold.
Kingdra took advantage of Steelix recharging and had forced it into the molten lava.
" Steelix!" Gold saving Steelix back into it's pokeball from any further damage.
" That was cheap, Clair!" Gold exclaimed.
" We are in battle, Ethan, there are trainers who will be ruthless in battle, steel yourself if you want to save your pokemon from harm!" Clair said.
" That isn't the same and you damn well know it!" Gold argued.
" Shape up, Ethan or you will continue to watch your pokemon pay the price!" Clair said.
" As hard as Clair is being on Ethan, she is right.." Crystal thought.
" How will you respond, Ethan?" Crystal thought.
" Understood then, watch what happens when you spit on my Pokemon on my watch." Gold replied.
" Ampharos, take advantage with thunderpunch!" Kingdra was unable to move after hyper beam and was thunderpunched by Ampharos.
" Kingdra, fight back with headbutt!" Clair said.
Kingdra became paralyzed from Ampharos static ability after making physical contact with headbutt.
" Here's your chance, capitalize with power gem!" Gold said.
Multi-colored gem stones dealt super effective but wasn't quite enough to knock out Kingdra since Ampharos was not a rock type.
" Surf attack!" Clair said.
" Brace yourself!" Gold warns Ampharos.
The force behind Kingdra's tidal wave not only attacked Ampharos but had completely evaporated the lava in Clair's gym.
" *coughs* The power behind that surf attack was incredible, did Ampharos survive?!" Crystal coughing in the heavy mist.
Ampharos had struggled to stand on it's feet but the will to win was strong.
" Wow, it's tough!" Crystal thought.
" That's the spirit, Ampharos the spirit we have been talking about!" Gold praised.
" Heh, well show me what the spirit can do, come at my Kingdra with what you got!" Clair smiled.
" Strike with thunder, Ampharos!" Gold said.
" Kingdra, finish with dragon pulse!" Clair retaliated.
Ampharos' concentrated thunder had unfortunately missed Kingdra with it's great speed who was now at point blank range.
" You lose, Ethan." Clair stated to Gold's doomed expression.
Kingdra's dragon pulse spirally viciously spun Ampharos into the cracked gym wall, seemingly deciding the battle.
" Ampharos!" Crystal called.
" Are you alright?!" Gold exclaimed.
When Kingdra was about to be named victor, Ampharos once again finding to will to stand on it's feet as it refuses to lose, shocking everyone especially Clair in the process.
" Ampharos..! I understand.." Gold paused.
" Incredible!" Crystal marveled.
" Ethan, your Ampharos may have some credibility to it's name, but like you it is putting up a front, not willing to take the fall out of stubbornness is pure weakness!" Clair taunted.
" This attack will be last and Ampharos will not be getting up again, skull bash!" Clair strikes.
" No Clair... What you see is no weakness, what you see is true spirit to prove my peers wrong!" Gold closed his eyes.
" I'll make an believer out of you!" Gold once again taps into resonation mode as his golden eyes shined bright and developed two black marks the same as Ampharos underlining his eyes.
" Iron tail, Ampharos!" Gold exclaims.
On it's way over to deliver it's skull bash attack, a electrical spark stalled the moving Kingdra.
" What the.. It can't..!" Clair shouted then realized the change in Gold's features once again.
" Now!" Gold signaled.
Ampharos' empowered iron tail batted Kingdra out above the gym a great distance before crashing back on the gym foundation. Kingdra was then unfit to battle further signifying the victor to both Gold and Ampharos.
" We did it.. Yes, we did it!" Gold celebrated with his Ampharos and his other Pokemon.
" Amazing, he believed and won against Clair, they're both tough!" Crystal said.
" I'm sorry, I didn't realize that you were paralyzed until the end, Kingdra." Clair patted the weary Kingdra and sprayed a full restore.
" Take a long, deserved rest, you've earned it." Clair returned Kingdra.
" I wanted to see what Ethan was capable of and now I am certain." Clair thought and gritted her teeth in anger.
" And now, I'll be taking your badge, right Clair?" Gold playfully mocked.
" Not a chance." Clair replied emphatically.
" Huh, what's the deal Clair, I was only joking in good spirits?" Gold questioned.
" Yeah, Clair he won, why are you denying his victory?" Crystal also not understanding Clair's attitude.
" He may have beaten me on a fluke but against the Elite Four let alone my brother, would be a waste of their time!" Clair walked away.
" Clair, what are you...Agh!" Gold's connection to Ampharos fades away thus drops to his knees of weariness.
" Ethan!" Crystal helps up Gold.
" Clair, how can you say that?!" Crystal asked.
" He isn't ready." Clair replied.
" Then what.. what must I do, to prove to you..?" Gold asked restlessly.
" If you really want to prove to me that you have earned the badge then go speak to the village elder in Dragon's Den." Clair said.
" Dragon's Den?" Gold asked.
" There is a cave behind this gym, enter it and it will take you to Dragon's Den." Clair continues to walk to her quarters in the gym.
" I highly doubt you can pass the test so maybe you shouldn't bother, unless you are that determined to prove me wrong." Clair turned and faced Gold and Crystal.
" So until you can prove you're ready for the League, I refuse to acknowledge you!" Clair leaves the area.
" Clair!" Crystal called and realized Gold had then passed out from exhaustion.
" Ethan!" Crystal shook Gold.
" ...Clair.." Gold unconsciously spoke.
Read and Review. On a side note, training for the navy sure is kicking my ass lol thanks to those who are wishing me luck!
