Chapter 28 The Empty Child Part 1
"Doctor what's going on?" I asked the Doctor as we chased an object through space.
"It's mauve." He stated.
"Mauve?" Rose questioned as we tried to balance.
"The universally recognized colour for danger." He lectured, and Rose, and I went to him in the shaking Tardis.
"really? I thought it would be red?" I inquired looking at the screen.
"That's just humans. By everyone else's standards, red's camp. Oh, the misunderstandings. All those red alerts, all that dancing." He explained, and I grinned at the image, but the smile left as the Doctor continued speaking. "It's got a very basic flight computer - I've hacked in, slaved the TARDIS. Where it goes, we go."
"And how safe is it?" Rose pressed.
"Totally." He responded, and a part of the Tardis exploded beside me, and I turned to him with an annoyed look. "Okay, reasonably. Should have said reasonably there."
"You think" I snapped seeing as the explosion almost hit me.
"Oh, no, no, no, no, no! It's jumping time tracks - getting away from us." He notified.
"What exactly is this thing?" Rose asked the question that was in both our heads.
"No idea." He answered.
"Then explain why are we chasing it?" I requested still looking at him.
"It's mauve and dangerous. And about 30 seconds from the centre of London." He told us.
"Ah Well ain't that great." I muttered looking back at the screen.
…..
"Do you know how long we can knock around space without having to bump into Earth?" The Doctor wondered.
"Five days?" Rose guessed.
"Or is that just when we're out of milk?" I questioned.
"Of all the species in all the universe and it has to come out of a cow." He mentions.
"Or a female" I pointed out, and Rose, and the Doctor looked at me, and I raised my hands "Sorry that just came out, but it's true." I span around, like always to look at the surrounding around me. "So where is it?" I questioned looking around. "And how far did jump to?"
"Must have come down somewhere quite close. Within a mile, anyway. And it can't have been more than a few weeks ago. Maybe a month." He answered me.
"A month?! We were right behind it!" Rose exclaimed.
"It was jumping time tracks all over the place, we're bound to be a little bit out. Do YOU wanna drive?" He asked.
"Yes." I turned to him getting his attention, I know he didn't actually mean it, but I feel that it really would be fun to drive the Tardis.
"Maybe I can teach one day." The doctor told me, and I grinned.
"Really?" I beamed,. But the Rose spoke with a grin on her face.
"I wouldn't say that, you don't know about the go kart accident." She laughed remembering what I had told her, and I nudged her.
"That was one time!" I pointed out to her.
"Yeah and you had to be taken off for your own safety." She teased.
"I was fifteen, my first time driving and the told us what to do when were in the vehicles that were super loud, what do you expect to happen if you didn't hear them properly?" I turned to her, while the doctor watched with some amusement and curiosity.
"Well going through a wall of tires, and up a bank wouldn't be on my mind." She remarked and I crossed my arms, and Rose decided to change the subject back to the previous one. "Anyway how much is 'a little'?" She questioned the Doctor.
"A bit."
"Is that EXACTLY a bit?" I pressed still with my arms crossed.
"Ish."
"What's the plan, then? Are you gonna do a scan for alien tech or something?" Rose wondered.
"It hit the middle of London with a very loud bang. I'm gonna ask." He explained to us showing us the psychic paper.
"Doctor John Smith, Ministry of Astroids." Rose read out loud.
"You don't look like a John." I mentioned also reading it then looking at his face.
"It's Psychic Paper, tells you-" He began, until I stopped him with a hand.
"I know." I smiled at him. "We remember."
"Sorry." He said putting the paper back in his pocket.
"Not very Spock, is it? Just asking?" Rose stated, and I nodded once we got to a door.
"Door - music - people. What d'you think?" He asked.
"We think you should do a scan for alien tech." Rose replied.
"Yeah where's the fun in asking." I pointed out.
"You decided to ask questions to Cathica, and Suki." He retorted towards me.
"Yes, but I don't really want to ask people questions all the time. I have to say I do like some scanning." I responded, as he pointed his sonic screwdriver at the door.
"Give us some Spock! For once, would it kill ya?" Rose added.
"Are you sure about that t-shirt?" The Doctor directed at Rose changing the subject.
"Too early to say. I'm taking it out for a spin, like Re, and her bunny tights."
"Hey Bunny's are cute, the flag, sorry to say is kinda boring" I stated as I watched the Doctor unlock the door.
"Come on if you're coming. Won't take a minute." The Doctor enters the room. I sighed simply about to go in behind him, but turned to Rose, who looked like she was looking for something.
"Rose you okay?" I questioned.
"I heard a voice." Rose responded.
"You did?" I walked over to her, looking around as well. I would have said it was nothing, but I knew it wasn't.
"Re look!" Rose exclaimed pointing up at a rooftop.
I looked to where she pointed to see a child. "Oh my God!"
"Doctor? There's a kid up there!" Rose yelled towards the door.
"He's won't hear us, come on we need to help." I grabbed her arm, and began to run towards the child. We soon ran up multiple steps while Rose shouted.
"Are you all right up there?"
"Muuuuum-my?" He spoke, and we ran up more steps. We soon reached the top of the steps, but we were no where near, and we heard the child say mummy again.
"Okay - hold on! Don't move!" Rose shouted, and we both spotted a piece of rope swing in front of us, and Rose caught it.
"Oh really?" I muttered, and sighed. "You should go first, rope is not my forte." I told her, and she nodded, and began climbing up first.
…..
"How are you holding" Rose questioned me panting.
"Oh great" I huffed sarcastically, and the boy repeated himself again.
I looked up to the child about to tell him not to worried, but I soon saw him point and say "Balloon!" Suddenly the rope began to move from the wall, pulling us with it.
"Oh my..." I clenched on to the Rope, for dear life as we began to move.
I looked to the floor, we were slowly moving a way from. "Why did we both decide to climb!?" I exclaimed realising we should have thought that through.
"Doctor! Doctor! Doctor!" I heard Rose shout, but I know he wasn't going to hear her, and I closed my eyes.
"Okay... maybe NOT this t-shirt." She muttered, and I replied back with.
"Yeah!, and I should have worn gloves." Knowing I will get rope burn.
"Hold on Re." She called down to me. Knowing I wasn't as athletic as her.
"Yeah! Tell me something I don't know!" My eyes were still closed, I would panic if I opened them. "What's going on?"
"Uhh bombings." She yelled down to me.
"Oh that's just great." I mumbled, tightening my grip on the rope.
Smith's PoV:
"Get those lights out please!" I heard one of the soldiers say in the room, but I watched Jack look out of the window with binoculars. "Come on, down to the shelter." I leaned on the wall besides Jack with my arms crossed. I was about to ask him what he sees, but then another solider walked up to us.
"Jack? Smiths? Are you going down to the shelter? Only, I've got to go off on some silly guard duty." Algy told us, before he spotted something in the sky, and I turned to look also. "Ah! Barrage Balloon, eh? Must've come loose. Happens now and then. Don't you RAF boys use them for target practice?" He directed at Jack, but Jack didn't reply, and I decided to speak.
"Jack what do you see?" I asked giving him a look.
"Excellent bottom." Jack commented, and I looked at him confusingly before taking the binoculars of him, and began to look for myself.
"I say, old man. There's a time and a place. Look - you should really be off." I heard Algy say as I saw what Jack was looking at. I hit him on the shoulder, for he was being a pervert, and looking at a females butt. I heard him laugh and then apologise to Algy.
"Sorry, old man. We've gotta go and meet some girls. But you've got an excellent bottom too." As he spoke, I zoomed out on the binoculars to notice that there were two instead of one, and both of them look familiar.
"I suspected it was time" I whispered understanding why Jack said that we had to meet two girls. I threw the binoculars back at Jack who caught them. "Jack's right we have to go. See ya Algy." I said my goodbyes walking with Jack to our ship.
Re's PoV:
"Rose" I called up to her frightened. "I can't hold on any longer."
"Re you've got to I know how you fee..." She screamed again like she has been doing. I opened my eyes to look at her. My face was by her waist now, and my legs were dangling of the rope.
"Oh God!" I exclaimed as I looked down, and closed them again. "Rose I really can't..." I cried, my hands couldn't take the rope burn anymore. I soon lost my grip of the rope, but felt someone grab my hand. I snapped my eye open to see one of Rose hands grabbing mine. "Rose! What are you doing!" I shouted at her.
"Not letting you go!" She had her eyes closed to concentrate on the grip of her hands.
"Rose you can't handle holding me as well" I yelled to her.
"I can try, I am not letting you go!" She shouted back, and we heard an explosion from below us, which caused Rose to let go. Rose both began to scream as we fell. Suddenly there was a blue beam around us, and Rose, and I began to pull each other together.
"Okay, okay, we've got you." We heard a man's voice.
"Who's got us? Who's got us, and you know... how?" Rose asked scared, and surprised.
"I'm just programming your descent pattern. Keep as still as you can I suggest." The man spoke again.
"May want to tell them to keep their hands and feet inside the light field." We heard a female voice talking to the male, which sounded rather familiar.
"Yeah what she said." He told us.
"Oh, and the cell phones as well." A voice was heard again.
"Okay, Okay, could you switch off your cellphone?" He called to us again, and Rose began to make disbelieving noises.
"No, seriously - it interferes with the instrument." The male spoke.
"Yeah you wouldn't want to be stuck out there, don't you?" We heard the girl laugh.
"You know, no-one ever believes that." Rose mentions, as we fumbled to get our phones and turned them off.
"Thank you. That's much better." They man thanked us.
"Oh, yeah, that's a real load off, that is. We're hanging in the sky in the middle of a German air raid with me havin' the Union Jack across my chest, but hey! My mobile phone's off!" Rose scoffed, and I couldn't help but laugh, to be honest this was a load off for me, we weren't going to die now. I also heard the two others laugh, and the male told us he would be with us in a moment.
Smith's PoV:
"The mobile communication device indicates non-contemporaneous life form." The computer in our ship says.
"She's not from around here, no." Jack tells the computer, as I worked with the light field to bring them towards us. "Do you think these are the people following our scam."
"Your scam, and yes they are." I told him, readying the beam.
"Why do you always call it my scam. When you and I both do it."
"How am I doing it? I don't try and get people to buy it. I am just here for the ride." I explained. 'And this is a fix point in where I need to be' I thought to myself. "Right, ready." I say to him.
"Okay" He nodded at me before speaking to the girls "Ready for you. Hold tight!"
"To what?!" The both responded, and I grinned.
"Fair point." I shouted over to Jack, and began to bring them in, getting up, ready to catch one of them.
"Are you sure you can catch one?" Jack smirked at me.
"Jack, you know I am stronger then I look." I smirked back, catching the short haired one, while Jack caught the other. I quickly placed her down on her feet, but I made her lean on to me.
"Hi there" I smiled at her, who held her head with her eyes closed, and Jack told the long haired blonde she was fine.
"You're fine, you're just fine. The tractor beam, it can scramble your head just a little."
Re slowly opened her eyes to look up at me. "Smiths?" she questioned confused, but then collapsed, I almost went down with her, trying to stop her from hitting the ground.
"Okay she was heavier then I thought." I told Jack to see Rose fainted as well, and placed on the bed. "Some help please." I huffed to Jack, who helped pick Re up, and place her besides Rose.
"She knew you name?" Jack pointed out.
"Well one of my names" I grinned. "Guess I meet her in my future" I stated which I knew was true.
