Did she pull off being the best Denise? Absolutely not, but the little masquerade did manage to work, everyone seemed to be on the same page. When no one was really paying attention, Sally in Denise's body made a dash back to the room where her physical body lay sleeping and she stopped in her tracks. She felt Denise's vein popping from her forehead as she thought, the fall from the lighthouse should have smashed her skull into thousands of pieces. It should have killed her, yet here she was intact. Mid thought Watch smashed into her as he turned the corner not looking, "Sorry," he mumbled as he moved swiftly from her and put his hands up in surrender. The kid was adorable when he was flustered, and Sally felt the ease of Denise's smile spread across her face. "No worries" she responded also putting her hands up. " My motor functions are a bit off at the moment." Watch sighed.
"Well, yeah you look like you had fallen off the lighthouse, have you slept at all?" Denise's voice echoed in her ears with Sally's bitter sarcasm hidden within. Her best friend looked very much like Watch did right before he died, and it didn't bode well with her.
"I'll sleep when Sally is ok."
"What if she never is? You just gonna let yourself fall apart?"
"Maybe."
"For a massive genius that's pretty stupid." Watch shook his head, "don't you shake your head at me." Watch moved around her and went to the bed where her body lay. This is the weirdest thing I have ever been trough, she thought as she stretched Denise's arm, this body was under a lot of stress. Watch sat in the chair next to Sally and took her hand, ignoring her last sentiment. "Even if she doesn't make it, it will all be ok, "the encouragement failed as his eyes bore into her, " Will it?" he bit, "you seem to have recovered from the shock, really level headed all of a sudden. How did you know what happened to her at the reservoir and about Bum blocking it off?" The question tore the air and Sally wasn't sure how to control Denise's features like her own, but she tried to pretend like the words didn't surprise her, "Sally told me at the top of the lighthouse."
"Doesn't sound like her."
"Well, maybe you don't know her as well as you think you do." Watch laughed at that, "The day I don't know Sally Wilcox will be the day I lose my memory in its entirety. "
"Well then maybe you are losing it, she told me about everything at the lighthouse."
"Really?" Watch asked with disbelief, "You're telling me that Sally, who trusts no one in this world…entrusted you with specific facts about how she died."
"I am sure she trusts people."
"Doubtful, she must have been manipulating you." Sally knew what he was doing; two could play at that game. "Maybe for once she was being real…maybe you don't know her at all."
"Please that girl is attached to my soul, I know her better than I know myself."
"You sound ridiculous right now." Denise's laugh had a bit more hiss in it than Sally was use to.
"Yeah well you look ridiculous." Sally/Denise let out a shocked gasp, "how dare you? I am a beautiful blonde pineapple." Watch's face lit up when he smiled as he made his way back over to her, "Pineapple may be a bit of an exaggeration." He wasn't so much taller than Denise so Sally could take a step closer to him, just enough to make him uncomfortable.
"C'mon Watch, don't you think I'm … pretty?"
"You are very pretty." He stood unflinched, so she got even closer, "do you think I am the prettiest girl in the whole town?" Still he was unmoved, "As far as my opinion goes I would say you are the prettiest girl in the whole world, however I have not yet seen every single girl in the world, so my opinion is invalid." Sally laughed and looked over at her body on the bed, her laugh faltered as she saw something unexplainable "is my body glowing?"
They booked it to each side of the body as a gentle green glowed from under her skin, "You're healing." Watch said in disbelief, "this must be what happened the other day when you woke up completely healed." Sally felt Denise's heart beat roughly against her chest, "What are you doing in her body by the way?"
"I was trying to fix everything."
"So you wouldn't have to come back?" The pain was intentionally evident in his eyes, "He's there isn't he?" Sally nodded in response, "Are you coming back?"
"I really don't think I have a choice." She said modeling her healing body, "If you were to choose you wouldn't choose to come back right?" He asked, "You would choose … death." Sally laughed at the solemn inflation with death.
"It's really not as bad as we thought; I think Watch had the right idea." With her words, Watch jolted and suddenly seemed more on edge "Sally you have to get out of Denise's body before you get stuck in there."
"That's a thing?" Sally asked with a whispered hiss, Watch nodded and gave a hand gesture to accentuate the necessity to jolt from Denise's body, but before she made her final decision she grabbed Watch's hand and felt beneath Denise's hot hand her friend was cold and quietly said, "I love you." Watch smiled his smile with a curve to the left, "I'll be watching you."
"Perv." Sally said as she felt her soul separate back and travel back into her healing body.
