"Mom, what are you doing here?" Elena asked, her eyes flickering between her mom and Jenna in a panic.
Miranda smiled, "I'm coming to take you back home." I can't leave. No. She can't do this.
"No. No no no no," Elena started, her eyes filled with tears. "Jenna! You can't let her take us, this is our home now."
Jenna stood up and wrapped her arms around her niece before whispering in her ear, "You're not going anywhere."
Once she pulled away she wiped a trickling tear from Elena's cheek, "Go and get some sleep and we'll discuss this tomorrow." I want to see Damon. I need to tell him..
Miranda frowned at the exchange between her sister and her daughter, trying to move a step closer towards Elena who backed away. "Just don't."
When Elena had gone up to her room Jenna turned to Miranda, "Look it wouldn't make sense to make them leave now. Elena has almost finished her senior year and Jer is really happy here. I'm happy with them here and so is Ric."
"They're my kids Jenna, they belong to me."
"Oh I wouldn't be so sure about that anymore," Jenna bit back as she turned off the light in the foyer before heading up the stairs. Stopping halfway she took one last glance at her sister, "Good night Miranda."
Miranda sighed as she watched her sister disappear completely. She pulled the duvet cover back on the couch before making herself comfortable. She hadn't really lost them had she?
"Jenna," Elena stated when she saw her aunt enter her room, "Please don't come to persuade us to go with her. I've never been so happy.."
Jenna shook her head as she took a seat next to Elena on her bed. "You really think I'm letting you kids go? No way. But I'm not here to talk about that.." Ah my date with Damon which seems to be a hot topic at the moment.
Elena blushed, "So you're here to talk about Damon and I."
"What's going on with you two?"
"Well, Damon is my boyfriend," Elena answered, holding her breath as she expected the 'He's not good enough for you' speech.
"And he makes you happy?"
Elena raised her eyebrow as Jenna burst out laughing, "I didn't mean like that! Ew!"
"He does, make me happy," Elena replied seriously, letting out a smile. "I'm sorry I didn't tell you sooner, I mean he and I agreed to keep this private for now. He's my first real boyfriend.." I feel terrible, I wish I hadn't have kept her out of the dark for so long.
"I understand. I'm happy for you Lena," Jenna said as she squeezed her niece's hand before standing up. She walked through Elena and Jer's adjoining bathroom before knocking on his door. Now where is she going?
"Jer are you awake? Could you come in here please?"
Jeremy immediately got up and walked through to Elena's room, "What's up?"
"You owe me twenty bucks!" Jenna exclaimed excitedly, Jeremy looked down at Elena.
"You and Damon finally got together?" How? Did they bet on me and Damon getting together?!
Elena nodded, "Yes down in South Carolina.."
Jeremy grinned before handing over money to Jenna, "I knew it would've been sooner than Valentine's Day!"
"Should've said it then!" Jenna taunted with a grin as she waved her money around happily, "Anyway I am off to bed now, good night."
"Night," Elena and Jeremy both replied, once she had disappeared Jeremy sat down next to Elena.
Jeremy sighed, "Did you see mom downstairs?" Well that put an end to my extremely happy mood.
Elena nodded, "Don't worry Jer, we're not going anywhere. Unless you want to go with mom?"
"No of course not. I've settled here I mean with Jenna and Ric we're not on our own anymore, and Bonnie.. I love her, I could never leave her."
Elena smiled, "I don't know what Damon would do if I left. I'm sorry I didn't tell you by the way, we kinda wanted to keep it private I wanted to tell you y'know?"
"It's fine 'Lena," Jeremy assured her with a grin, "Its kinda obvious anyway. With the longing stares and the way you act around each other, it was inevitable."
Suddenly Elena's phone buzzed from beside her, she lifted it and tried holding back a grin as she saw who it was from.
"Damon?" Jeremy guessed, his guess based on her reaction. She gave a nod.
Can I see you? Miss you already.
"He uh, wants to see me," Elena confessed, looking out of the window longingly.
He grinned, "And let me guess, you've climbed out of that window before to see him?" What?! How did he?
"How did you know?" Elena asked, her eyes widening.
"Well the first time I saw him climb up to your room was Thanksgiving, you guys were pretty loud. The second was Christmas day, I just happened to be looking out of my window when I saw you come out." Uh oh.
Elena stared at him a little dumbfounded, "Do you think Ric and Jenna know?"
"Ric definitely but I'm not so sure about Jenna. Look if you want to see him now I'll shut the window after you and I can re open it in the morning. I'll set my alarm for 6?"
Elena nodded gratefully and hugged her brother before typing a reply to Damon.
Be at yours in 2 mins. Got some bad news..
"Thank you so much Jer, you're the best!"
Once she had climbed out of her window Damon had opened his front door for her and let her in, immediately wrapping her up in a tight hug.
"What's wrong?" Damon asked in a hushed tone, as he noticed her slightly saddened expression.
Elena let out a long sigh, "My mom.. she came to take me and Jer back home with her, or rather to her new home in Seattle."
"You're not going are you?" Damon asked, slightly tightening his grip around her. I couldn't leave you like that. Not now.
"No no. Well I'll do all that I can to stay, Jenna said we'd discuss it tomorrow but she doesn't want us to leave and Jer and I don't want to go. My mom just abandoned us, she can't just take us back like that. Not when I feel so at home here, with you and Jenna and everyone around me. I've never been so happy before," Elena let out hurriedly, her eyes filling with tears. Damon pulled her into the kitchen, making her sit down on one of the barstools. "I just can't let it all go now."
"You won't have to 'Lena," Damon promised as he crouched a little, their faces only inches apart, "I will never let you go, not without putting up a fight. Not when I've only just got you."
Elena leaned forward and wrapped her arms around his neck, "Do you mind, if I- I stay here tonight with you?"
"Of course not 'Lena, I love it when you stay over," Damon answered as he stood up. "Want a piggyback upstairs?" Only he could know how to make me feel better after this.
Elena nodded gleefully as she jumped onto his back, her legs wrapping around his mid section happily. Using her power from her position she began planting delicate kisses up and down his neck, causing him to groan. "Elena!"
"Shh, your mom will hear!" Elena teased as she pulled back a little, Damon continued his journey upstairs making extra effort to creep past Stefan's room without making a sound. However Elena had other ideas.. Time for a little fun.
She began to suck on the pulse point of his neck, causing him to almost lose it completely. "I swear to god woman.."
After a long and tedious journey he finally made it to his room where he threw Elena down onto his bed, hovering over her and claiming her lips immediately, "You drive me crazy," He moaned out in between kisses.
"You don't know the half of it," Elena replied, her hands slipping underneath his t-shirt and over his stomach.
The two suddenly sprang apart when they heard a knock at the door, in a panic Elena quickly slipped off of the bed and onto the floor in an attempt to crawl under Damon's bed as fast as possible. Oh my god oh my god oh my god!
"Come in," Damon said trying to sound as calm as possible as he laid back on his bed. Stefan came bursting in through the door causing Damon to shoot him an irritable look. "And what can I do for you, Saint Stefan?"
Stefan looked around his room, a look of confusion spread across his face, "I thought I heard a girl in here.."
"Do you see any girls around?" Damon asked, rolling his eyes.
"No but- I'm just saying please don't start hooking up with other girls again since Elena got here you haven't and.. well don't give up on her?" He hasn't hooked up with anyone since I arrived in Mystic Falls? How did I not notice that? I mean I never ever saw him with another girl.. Maybe it was clear all along.
Damon almost felt guilty, wanting to tell his brother the truth. Instead he nodded at his brother gratefully, "Don't worry I won't. You know how I feel about her, I'm not going to let that go."
"Aw," Stefan cooed, "My brother is turning soft!"
Damon grabbed his pillow from underneath him and threw it at Stefan who caught it. He threw it back at Damon and smiled, "Night bro."
"Night Stefan," Damon replied as he watched his brother close the door, the moment the door shut he leant over his bed and helped Elena out from under it.
"That was close," Elena muttered letting out a sigh as she snuggled down back onto Damon's bed beside him. I feel bad, maybe we should tell Stefan..
Damon nodded, "Too close."
"I've been thinking, maybe we should start to tell people about us? I don't wanna keep it a secret anymore. Its been a long time coming.."
"Mm," Damon hummed in agreement as he put an arm around her to pull her closer, "We will tell people in time. We just have to find the right place to do it."
"Well we could start tomorrow, by telling my mom?"
Damon smirked, "So we're going to just dive in straight at the deep end? Lets do it."
"So you're really going to start telling people?" Caroline asked curiously as she looked up from her notepad, still jotting down ideas for her 18th birthday party.
Elena nodded, "We're going to start by telling my mom, Damons coming over for dinner tonight so I'll introduce them then. I guess after that it'll be a lot easier.."
"And your mom? She's not moving you to Seattle is she?" Bonnie asked, a frown forming across her forehead.
"No," Elena said confidently, I will not let her take Jer from you not now he's so happy. "We'll talk about it with her tonight but there's no way that Jer and I are leaving here."
"So you can make it to my birthday party on Saturday?" Caroline asked, both Elena and Bonnie exchanged looks before laughing. Oh Care.
"Yes Care, you know I wouldn't miss it for the world."
"And Damons coming too?"
Elena grinned and nodded, "Yeah, apparently he helped Klaus pick up your birthday present the other day."
Caroline smiled, "Are you going to give me any hints?"
"Of course not! They refused to tell me and Bon, so I'll guess you'll just have to find out then."
Caroline let out a huff, "Or I could do some snooping around the Mikaelsons' house.." Why do I seriously believe that.
"Doesn't that defeat the whole idea of gift giving?" Bonnie asked, mockingly groaning.
"No! Anyway I need to go and find Matt and Rebekah to see if they can still help out on Friday. See you girls in History," Caroline said as she gathered her belongings and walked away. Elena immediately turned to Bonnie.
"Hey Bon, I was wondering if tonight you would want to come and have dinner over at my house? It might help with my mom if she could meet you too and with Damon there.. It might diffuse any situation that could occur," Elena explained, her voice laced with nerves. It may make tonight a lot easier, especially for Jeremy.
"Of course I will, I'll send Jer a quick text to let him know," Bonnie said as she pulled out her phone and typed her message.
Elena smiled, "You know, I'm glad my brother has you. Not only do you happen to be one of my best friends, but you've also brought out the best in him. He looked so worried last night at the thought of leaving you it almost broke my heart."
"He's been incredible to me and my track record for finding great guys hasn't always gone so smoothly, but he makes me happy. Very happy."
"And who knows maybe one day you'll even be my half sister," Elena said nudging Bonnie, causing her to blush.
"We'll see."
Jeremy and Elena both walked up to their front door nervously, neither knowing what to expect once they had walked in. Neither dared to open the door, both just standing there staring and waiting for something to happen.
"Are you going to open the door?" Elena questioned, still staring. Well..
"Are you?" He asked back, both shook their heads at each other.
"It can't be that bad right? She knows that we don't want to go back with her, that we're happy here. She'll understand?"
Jeremy snorted, "Yeah sure. Because she always listens to us doesn't she?" He has a point.
"I know," Elena sighed in defeat, "So we're just going to stand outside all evening?"
"Sounds like a good plan," Jeremy replied rolling his eyes.
Suddenly the door swung open causing both Elena and Jeremy to jump back in shock, Jenna stood on the inside with a puzzled expression, "You kids thinking about coming in?"
"We were just admiring the paint work on the door.." Elena lied feebly, Jenna snorted.
"It's a really nice shade of brown," Jeremy added, though he internally groaned. Well there could have possibly been better excuses to use.
Jenna sighed and put her arms around her niece and nephew, "I know this is tough for you but we have to get this out of the way with. Come on."
The two both reluctantly followed Jenna into the house and sat down at the dining room table where their mother was currently waiting, "Hi, how was school to day?"
Both of her children rolled their eyes and muttered a reply of 'it was okay' or 'better than being here'.
"Now I know that you two seem to love it here," Miranda started with a defeated look, "But you have to understand that I miss you, you are my kids and I'd like you to come home."
"Why so you can neglect us again?" Elena bit back, shooting daggers at her mother.
Miranda sighed, "Neglect is a harsh word Elena." Oh really?
"So disappearing for weeks whilst I had to take care of Jer wasn't harsh at all?"
"Look, I know what I did wasn't right and I haven't always been the best mother. But I think Seattle will give us a fresh start."
"No it won't," Jeremy replied, "Because we're not going."
"What will it take for you to understand mom? This is our home now, we don't need a fresh start. We would love it if we got to see you more, if maybe you made that extra effort with us. But we're staying here."
Miranda shut her eyes and rubbed her head, "Fine. You can stay, but I will also be staying here for the next couple of weeks. I want to spend some quality time with you kids and if in those two weeks you want to stay well then you can, please just think about it."
"Okay," Elena nodded slowly, "We don't want to lose you mom but here is where we belong and we'll be glad to have you here but don't think for one second that you can change our minds."
"Jeremy? Are you okay?" Jenna asked, worried that he had been silent throughout this exchange.
Jeremy nodded, "Like Elena said, don't bother trying to change our minds."
"Understood," Miranda whispered, "Now Jenna told me we have guests coming over tonight?"
"Yes, my boyfriend Damon and Jer's girlfriend Bonnie, who also happens to be my best friend," Elena replied, smiling to herself as she thought of Damon. Maybe tonight won't be so bad after all.
"That's lovely," Mirada said faintly, "How about I make us the famous Gilberts' chili recipe?"
Jeremy shrugged, "Whatever you want."
Three hours later there was a knock on the door much to Elena's delight as she stood up from her seat on the couch and bounded over to the door, her face lit up when she saw both Bonnie and Damon on the other side. Finally!
"Come in," She said ushering them into the house nervously. She gave Bonnie a quick hug before pulling away and placing a loving kiss on Damon's lips, Jeremy soon came to join them at the door and pecked Bonnie on the cheek.
"How did everything go?" Bonnie asked, looking between the two siblings.
Jeremy sighed, "Well we're not moving but she decided to stay for a few weeks."
"Why the long face then Little Gilbert?" Damon asked.
"Just wait until you meet her," He replied, putting his arm around Bonnie.
Miranda suddenly emerged from the kitchen and into the foyer with a wide grin spreading across her face.
"Ah you must be Bonnie," Miranda exclaimed as she leant in to kiss Bonnie on the cheek, "Its nice to meet you!"
Miranda then turned to Damon "And you are?" What is she up to?
"Mom! I told you that this is Damon, my boyfriend," Elena said rolling her eyes. Damon held his hand out for Miranda to shake, she accepted gingerly before turning back to Bonnie.
"I've made chilli which I hope you'll like. Can I get you anything to drink?"
"Just a soda for me please," Bonnie replied smiling gratefully.
"And you Damien?" That can't have been an accident. Just what has my mother planned?
"It's Damon," He corrected, squeezing Elena's hand for comfort.
"Right. Whatever."
