The Reason For Kagome:

The demon formally known as Lord Sharaku chuckled to himself as he run from the cooks, the maids and even the guards…today would be the day… he would finally be able to eat the chicken that he had been trying to steal since he had come back to the palace. It would be his! He would no longer allow the fowl to give him looks of triumph; he would show the blasted chicken why he had been the Lord of the Southern Lands. He knew that there was only one place where they would not follow…Kagome's personal chambers! With a quick turn (well as quick as you can be with a chicken that is squawking and trying to escape) Sharaku made his way to Kagome's room. As he neared he could hear her speaking to someone. The voice was soothing and graceful (can a voice be graceful?). As the former Lord Sharaku stood there with a screaming chicken in his mouth, listening to the voices he did not notice the cook creep up behind him, with a quick yank Sharaku was lifted by the scruff of his neck and turned to face the redden cheeks of the very angry cook.

"You blasted beast." The cook said cursing and shaking Sharaku causing the former demon lord to drop the now wet chicken to ground. With a quick look around the cook picked up the chicken and walked back to the kitchen with Sharaku growling in his other hand.

Kagome stood outside her personal rooms trying to understand why the daughter of the ruling goddess wanted to speak with her. After Kagome had heard what had happened to her friend Akaru-Hime, Kagome wanted nothing to do with the gods and goddesses. She wanted to hurt someone…a feeling that she was not familiar with. But the goddess Kagetsu had insisted that they speak, so Kagome with her forgiving heart decided to hear her out.

"Lady Kagome… when you were in the cave, you got to see the real reason you were pulled back into the past, did you not?" The goddess Kagetsu asked.

"Yes, I did. I was not pulled back because of Naraku but for something far more important…I believe it was to save the demon race from being completely wiped out." Kagome said trying not to flinch as she stared into the cold eyes of the goddess before her.

"Hm, this is correct. However, you do not know how or why, am I correct?" Kagetsu asked.

Kagome shook her head. The goddess Kagetsu confused her. Why did this goddess even cared about demons and humans? Weren't they just play things to them? This was just too much for Kagome's brain to process.

Kagetsu looked around the hall making sure that no one was nearby, and then she placed her index finger on Kagome's forehead…

The imagines passed thru Kagome's head… she could see everything like she was standing there watching…

*FLASHBACK*

A handsome young human rushed towards the tree line looking for the goddess he had fallen deeply in love with. He knew that she would be here, somewhere. She would not just leave him, he needed her and she knew it. Her mother had allowed her to raise him as she saw fit… He had first met Kagetsu after the death of his parents when he was only five summers old…she came out the fire like an avenging angel and had set everything right…but her eyes had held such deep sorrow for the loss of his parents. Kagetsu took him in, gave him a roof over his head, food in his belly and taught him everything he needed to know about the world around him. However, when he was only sixteen summers old he had over-heard some of the village boys talking about the things they wanted to do to Kagetsu's body…at that moment all he could see was red. In a fit of rage he launched himself at the boys and tried to silence them forever. Had it not been for Kagetsu breaking up the fight he would have killed the group and he did not feel sorry for them. The words they spoke began to make him look at Kagetsu in a new light. He began to respect her as more than his mother but rather his friend too. But over years he had gone from respecting her as his teacher, friend and mother, into a deep all-consuming love. The love he felt for the goddess Kagetsu had taken on a life all its own. (Much like this story… back in your cage!) He could not breathe without thinking of her and it was time to tell her. He could no longer hold himself back…he would take what was his…Kagetsu was his!

Kagetsu glided silently through the trees, not making a sound. It had been a week since she had seen the child she called her own. She missed him terribly and could not wait to see his smiling face. Behind her she could hear the crunch of leaves from the footfalls of her new traveling companion. Never again would she let the Gods and Goddesses talk her into traveling. She hated to leave her precious child all by himself. No good ever came of it. Now she had an unwanted wolf demon following her…why was it always her? She did not need this burden. She had other things to deal with. Kagetsu did not even turn and look when the wolf demon cried out in pain…the wolf needed to learn how to take care of herself. She was no longer in a palace with hundreds of servants at her beck and call.

"Kagetsu wait for me." The wolf demon wailed at she forced herself to her feet, and began to run trying to catch up to the goddess.

"I will not wait. I have somewhere to be." Kagetsu said not turning to look at the wolf.

"So, what is so important that you cannot even help out your friend?" The wolf demon yelled as she finally reached Kagetsu's side.

"Nobara, when have I have called you my friend?" Kagetsu asked as she continued her journey.

"But you saved me from having to mate that foolish horse demon." Nobara whined. She knew deep in her heart that Kagetsu cared for her or she would have just left her in the sands of her homeland. She owed Kagetsu a debt and would not leave her side until she had paid her back. Nobara stopped and thought deeply on the choices that brought her here…but she did not regret.

Kagetsu ignored the voice of the wolf demon and kept walking. She wanted to be home by night fall so that she could tuck her son into bed and perhaps read him a bed time story. Those thoughts brought a smile to Kagetsu's face.

Nobara paused in her thoughts only to realize that Kagetsu had left…again! Seriously, that goddess needed to learn how to treat her friends…and Nobara was up for the task. As Nobara once again set her feet in motion and rushed to Kagetsu's side she could not help but notice the smile on her face…in that moment Nobara knew that they would be friends until the end of time…or until one of them was dead…whichever came first.

He could feel her…she was near. He could not wait to see her beautiful face. At that thought the feel of another aura walking with Kagetsu filled his brain. It was a demon aura. Had the demon somehow captured Kagetsu and forced her to bring them here? That was not possible! Kagetsu was a very powerful goddess, there was no way in hell a simple demon could over power her. Worry filled him and he took off running, he had to make sure Kagetsu was okay.

Kagetsu could feel her son running towards her and smiled. As he neared she whispered "Junjou." And without a second thought she rushed towards him.

Junjou paused in his running…she was alright…still as beautiful as ever. Junjou stood trying to catch his breath as he waited for the object of his desires to reach him. He could not help the smile that lay on his face or the light that shined in his eyes from being seen by anyone that looked. He was just so happy to see Kagetsu and he was not afraid to show it.

Kagetsu watched the smile spread across her son's face and she smiled in return. It was so good to be home.

Nobara watched the interaction between Kagetsu and this unknown male…were they perhaps mates? He looked at her like he wanted to devour her. He had such a hungry look in his eyes…it scared Nobara to see such a look… She shuddered and followed Kagetsu at a slower pace. She wanted to make sure she could flee if she needed to…

"My son…how I have missed you." Kagetsu said as she wrapped her arms around Junjou pulling him into an embrace.

Junjou tried not to flinch as the word son came from Kagetsu's lips. It would not be long before Kagetsu saw him in a new light…he promised himself that one day Kagetsu would know the full force of his passion.

The days passed quickly and soon it was time for Junjou to complete his final training. After this he would never lose his life to time but only until someone decided to remove him and with everything that Kagetsu had taught him… that was never going to happen. He would soon have all the power he needed to not only complete his dreams but to make Kagetsu his!

Kagetsu watched Junjou as he packed his bags. She did not want to do this. She did not want to send him to that horrible cave. However she could not stop her son. This is something that he had wanted since he was a child and Kagetsu wanted to make sure that everything he ever wanted would come true. He was her son and she would do anything for him, even if it meant leading him to a cave that could very well take his life. So Kagetsu keep her silence and watched…trying to hold back the tears that threatened to fall…perhaps she was not as strong as she had always thought herself to be.

Nobara watched her friend and her umm son as he packed. Personally she could not wait to get away from Junjou; he had been giving her weird looks since the day they met. More often than not Nobara had to hold herself back from throwing Kagetsu over her shoulder and running as far as her legs would take her. She needed to get Kagetsu away from him. There was just something off about the young man…but it seemed that Kagetsu could not see that. It was time to drop him off in that cave and head for the hills, even if Nobara had to drag Kagetsu with her.

"Junjou, it is time." Kagetsu said walking to the door of the hut and stepping into the sun.

Nobara did not know how much longer she could handle the silence. They had left the village three days ago and since then not one word had been spoken. It was driving her nuts. She wanted to throw herself down on the ground and throw the largest temper tantrum anyone has ever seen. However, she was pretty sure Kagetsu would just keep walking…that goddess seriously needed to lighten up…maybe Nobara just needed to get her drunk. Nobara began to giggle as vision of a drunken Kagetsu passed through her mind. Just as she was about to drop to the ground in her laughter Kagetsu spoke.

"We are here." Kagetsu said breaking the silence. Without looking at her son or traveling companion she pointed to a small cave.

"How is he even going to fit in there?" Nobara asked staring at the small hole.

"Go son…fulfill your dreams and wishes." Kagetsu said never taking her eyes from the cave's entrance.

Junjou looked at Kagetsu and straightened up; pushing his shoulders back he began to walk towards the beginning of his destiny.

"Before I enter I must say this…when I have returned to you…we will talk. I have things that I must tell you." Junjou said, and then he walked into the cave.

*END OF FLASHBACK*

When Kagome shook herself removing the imagines from her mind, she found herself in the hallway…almost like nothing had happened. Closing her eyes briefly, she took a deep breath and when she opened her eyes once more she noticed that the goddess Kagetsu was gone. Looking out the windows she could see the sun falling behind the mountains and she turned and walked back into her personal chambers.

(Authors Corner:)

Midnight: Are you seriously going to leave it right there?

Eclipse: Yes I am…I wanted to do a cliffhanger…there is nothing wrong with that.

Midnight: You will be lucky if the reviewers don't hunt you down and skin you.

Eclipse: Nah, they would not do that…would they? Hey is that an angry mob?

After a night of tossing and turning Kagome gave up trying to get any sleep and made her way to her throne room. Thoughts of what Kagetsu had shown her would not leave her mind… and she began to pace, making a trail on the carpet in front of her throne. Kagome stopped pacing and called her guards to her…she needed to know what happened to Junjou and Kagetsu it was making her so upset. It was confusing and Kagome did not like to be confused. After quickly telling her guards to find the goddess Kagetsu, Kagome resumed pacing.

Nobara entered the throne room; she could feel the confusion pulsing off of the Lady Kagome she just had to see what the hell was going on. As she walked forward she could see the wheels turning in Lady Kagome's head.

"Lady Kagome, what is bothering you so much?" Nobara said and she sat down in front of Kagome's throne and in the path of her pacing.

Kagome was startled from her thoughts when she fell over the top of the wolf demon Nobara. Landing on her face, she was quick to her feet trying not to blush in embarrassment. Kagome forced herself to take her place on her throne and looked at the wolf demon.

"Your friend Kagetsu has left me with a lot of confusion and anger." Kagome said

"Yeah, she likes to do that." Nobara said as she smirked…it was just like Kagetsu to make someone unhappy…she was good at it.

"Why would she show me something like that? I do not understand." Kagome mumbled as she place her head into her hands and let out a deep sigh.

"Well tell me what she did and maybe I can help." Nobara said

"She showed me her past…her past with a man by the name of Junjou." Kagome answered.

Nobara jumped to her feet and let out a howl… oh my gods! Nobara never expected Kagetsu to do something like that. She had thought that Kagetsu had forced herself to forget her dark past. That past is what had made Kagetsu who she was…emotionless…completely emotionless almost soulless. Nobara could not stop the tears that sprang to her eyes. Kagetsu had suffered so much and now she was going to relive it.

"I do not know why she did that…but know this that past is something that brings her nothing but pain…learn from it." Nobara growled as she walked from the throne room…she would not be here when Kagetsu showed her the rest… it was just too painful!

As Nobara walked out the large doors, Kagetsu walked in.

Kagome could not hear the words that passed between them but she could clearly see Nobara was begging Kagetsu and Kagetsu was ignoring her…what an odd friendship.

Kagetsu ignored her friends attempts to stop her…she needed to do this; she needed to free herself from the burden and the pain. Kagetsu walked to the throne and without saying anything to Kagome she once more touched her forehead and let the past flow.

*RETURN OF THE FLASHBACK*

Kagetsu had made a small camp outside of the cave. Waiting…that was all she could do. She could not hold her son's hand this time; he had to do this on his own.

Nobara watched as Kagetsu stared at the cave's entrance. She had not moved a muscle since Junjou had walked into it. It broke Nobara's heart to see Kagetsu so upset. While she had not known Kagetsu long, she felt a deep connection to her. She wanted to tell her that everything was going to be alright but that was not possible… Kagetsu would not believe her.

The days and nights seemed to have blurred into an endless worry. Kagetsu had long forgotten how long her son had been in the cave and she did not know how long it would be until he came out. The waiting was maddening. Just as Kagetsu was about to give up all hope of ever seeing her son again, he walked out of cave, limping and grunting in pain, but thank the gods he was alive. Kagetsu stood to her feet and rushed towards her son.

Junjou could feel Kagetsu worry and love cover over him like a blanket, after the hell he had been put through in that blasted cave he welcomed the feelings and let them wrap around him. Would he never get enough of this goddess? And now that he was as immortal as she was…he could have her for centuries. As he watched Kagetsu rush to his side…he knew that he would do whatever he could to make sure that she would always be by his side…his!

Kagetsu reached her son and threw her arms around him, sobbing in relief that he was alright. The sense of relief was almost too much for Kagetsu. She was so happy to see him that the tears would not stop.

Junjou pushed out of Kagetsu's embrace and forced her lips to his. When Kagetsu struggled against him, he only wrapped his arms around her and pulled her tightly to his body…he refused to allow her to escape. Junjou deepened the kiss; ignoring the wolf demon screaming at him to let his love go…no one was going to stop him…he finally had Kagetsu right where he wanted her.

Kagetsu pushed against Junjou…what in the world was happening. He was like a completely different person… with as much strength as she could Kagetsu finally pushed Junjou far from her body and leap back making sure to put as much distance between them. Kagetsu spat onto the ground and tried not to let the nausea leave her stomach.

"Just what in the name of my mother do you think you are doing?" Kagetsu screeched wiping her lips trying to remove the taste of him.

"Something I have wanted to do for a long time." Junjou said smiling as he took a step in Kagetsu's direction.

"You are my son…why?" Kagetsu yelled as she stepped back, she was not letting him anywhere near her if she could help it.

"I have never been your son! I have never wanted to be your son! I let you think that way so that I could be near you as much as possible. I have been in love with you for so long that I have forgotten when it started." Junjou shouted.

"No! You are my son…that is all you will ever be." Kagetsu yelled…she could not believe her ears. The child she had raised, the child that she had loved like he had come from her body had fallen in love with her… just the thought brought bile to her throat until she had to physically force it back down,

Nobara glared at Junjou. What a selfish little prick! She could not believe that he would take advantage of Kagetsu's gentle and loving heart. It made her want to beat him over the head with a stick until his brain started functioning the right way. She just could not stand by and watch…

"What the hell… you stupid human? Why would a goddess like Kagetsu ever want you as a mate? She would be better off with a god or hell even a demon." Nobara said as she crossed her arms on her chest and glared at the human male. "You are lucky that she even took you in… you are such a failure."

Junjou turned and glared at the brash wolf demon…was it her fault that Kagetsu did not see him as a lover? It had to be her fault… That stupid bitch…she had turned his love from him. Kagetsu never told him no until she came along. She just had to be the reason!

"Nobara hush! Now is not the time for your nonsense." Kagetsu said never taking her eyes from Junjou. Kagetsu took a deep breath and then released it before she opened her mouth to speak once more. "Junjou I am sorry if anything I have ever done made you think that we would more than just mother and son. I am sorry if any words I have spoken had led you to believe that loving you as a lover was even possible. I cannot see you as anything more than my son."

"I see now…you led me along until you found something better. You are just like every single other female in the world…cold and heartless only caring about what you want and never thinking about anyone else. I will show you… I will make you love me! I will remove every single demon in this world if I have too and then I will make you mine. Prepare yourself!" Junjou said swearing with every fiber of his body. He now had many many years to make plans and he would make sure the Kagetsu realized he was the only one for her.

Kagetsu shook her head and let the tears fall down her cheeks. She found it hard to believe that this was the same small little boy she had saved from the fire all those years ago. His eyes once held innocence and joy for everything around him, now all they held was madness and anger. Had she done that to him? Kagetsu took one last look at her son and then turned and walked back into the trees…

Nobara watched the scene before her and tried not to beat his ass! He made her so angry! She listened as he made his vow to kill all demons and she almost laughed…there was no way he would ever be able to pull that off. Demons were just too powerful! After shaking her head in shame for the idiot before her, she turned to look at Kagetsu only to realize that she had disappeared. The anger Nobara had been feeling came over her body and before she could stop herself, she was rushing at Junjou and with a swift kick…she sent him flying into the rocks surrounding the entrance to the cave. Then with a sneer Nobara turned away from Junjou's broken body and tried to follow any path that would lead her to Kagetsu.

Junjou slumped to the ground, his body wracked with pain. Trying to will the pain to leave his body he watched as the filthy bitch wolf demon walked away!

"That's right bitch…you better run because when I come for all the demons I will start with you. Nothing would bring me more joy then to watch your body fall to the dirt torn into pieces…" Junjou laughed and then closed his eyes for a much needed rest.

*END OF THE FLASHBACK RETURN*

Kagome shook her head once more forcing the past to leave her. And once more when she turned to look for Kagetsu…she was gone. Kagome could now see why Kagetsu had shown her what she had. She felt like she understood the emotionless Kagetsu more. While Kagome suffered the loss of her first love, Kagetsu lost her child. That just seemed to be a lot more painful. Kagome sat back in her throne and let of a sigh…why did life have to hurt so much?
