Here we go! Chapter 28! Enjoy

I DO NOT own NCIS, Rizzoli Isles or anything related to it.

Tony was absolutely right, Kate didn't stay in bed. How could she knowing that her daughter needed her. She was a doctor, she knew how to take care of herself just as well as Dr. Torres. Her sutures would be just fine as long as she took it easy and didn't do any strenuous activity. The walk to the NICU while uncomfortable wasn't strenuous.

Kate was never one for singing outside the shower but looking down at her sweet daughter's face put a song in her heart.

"Sunrise

There's a new sun arisin'

In your eyes

I can see a new horizon

Realize

That will keep me realizin'

You're the biggest part of me."

"I really have to stop letting Jane control the radio in the car," Kate laughed to herself as Dylan's tiny finger's gripped at her skin. Kate lifted Dylan's hand, kissing her tiny fingers.

"My little hands. We have this feeding thing down pretty well. Though I'm not really used to being out of bed this early for anything other than a homicide but I have to admit this is a welcomed change."

Dylan's eyes began to close.

"Oh no! You have to wake up, sweetie," Kate rubbed the bottom of Dylan's foot.

Dylan scrunched up her foot, looking up at her mother with an angry gaze.

"Don't give me that look, I give your Dad that look. You need to eat for five more minutes. We have a two pound weight gain we need to reach."

Dylan balled up her fist and got back to eating.

"I'm pretty sure you are supposed to be in your room this time of morning," said a very agitated Dr. Torres as she sat across from Kate.

"Don't you have other patients?" asked Kate, never taking her eyes off her daughter.

"Yes but they are all in their rooms where they belong, unlike you. I'm trying to get you home, Kate. I can't do that if you keep going against my orders."

"I'm not staying in that room as long as she is down here. Last time you examined me you said I was doing fine so you have no legitimate reason for me to stay upstairs, other than for your own convenience. Now you can respect my wishes to be with my daughter or I can take it up with your department chair. I would prefer the latter," Kate put Dylan on her shoulder, gently patting her on her back.

"This is why doctors don't like having doctors as patients. Somewhere along the way, you are going to bump heads though I thought you would be different."

"We all have our limits which is why I prefer my patients dead."

"Very funny. I'm serious."

"So am I."

Dr. Torres shook her head. She nodded towards the baby on Kate's shoulder. "How is she doing?"

Kate smiled. "Great, she has put on five ounces since I have been feeding her, she doesn't need her nasal tubes anymore. I'm trying to convince her doctor to send her home early and monitor her progress though weekly visits. She has no other developmental delays other than her weight, that's nothing that I can't take care of at home."

"I'm sure if you are as stubborn with her doctor as you are with me, she will be home tomorrow," Dr. Torres stood up. "Do you plan to return to your room at some point?"

"Maybe," smirked Kate.

Dr. Torres left the nursery.

Kate focused her attention back to her daughter. Dylan turned her head to face Kate. Kate smiled as she felt gentle puffs of breath against her neck start to even out as her daughter started to fell asleep. Kate rocked Dylan until she was sure she was sound asleep before she laid Dylan back in her crib, kissing her soft cheek. "See you in a little while."

Hours later, Kate's cellphone alarm went off, letting her know it was time for Dylan's next feeding. Sitting up in bed, she stretched as she braced herself for the cold of the hospital floor. Her feet barely touched the floor when the door to the room opened.

Dr. Coleman walked in pushing Dylan in her crib, followed by Dr. Torres. "Morning!"

Kate looked confused. "What's going on? What is Dylan doing out of the NICU?"

"It seems that you are a very persuasive person," said Dr. Torres. "Dr. Coleman came to me this morning and asked if Dylan could stay up here with you for a few days in preparation for her release."

Kate looked at Dr. Coleman. "Really?"

"Yeah, Dylan is thriving beyond what I could have imagined. She is breathing on her own and putting on weight mostly due to your knowhow," said Dr. Coleman.

"I told Dr. Coleman I'm trying to get you home in a few days so she is going to monitor Dylan from here in hopes of getting her home with you and to keep you in your room so I can do my final observations on you."

"She has everything you will need for her under her crib, wipes, diapers, extra blankets. The nurses will come up every so often to check on her," said Dr. Coleman.

Dr. Torres took Dylan out the crib handing her to Kate. "Now will you please stay in bed and rest so you can get out of here in the next week?"

"I think I can do that," replied Kate.

Dr. Torres smiled at Kate as she and Dr. Coleman left.

Kate looked down at her daughter who surprisingly was wide awake, looking back up at her. "Good morning, Dylan!" cooed Kate. "You get to room with Mommy until we go home! You're going home with me when I go. Yes, you are! Mommy knows what is good for her baby girl, doesn't she?"

Dylan turned her head towards Kate.

"You're hungry?" Kate undid her gown, lining Dylan up to feed.

She smiled as she listened to Dylan gulp down milk.

Kate had just finished feeding Dylan when Tony came limping into the room with a panicked look on his face. "Kate! I went to the nursery and Dylan isn't…" Tony froze in his steps as he looked upon Kate and Dylan in bed. "What is she doing here?"

Kate smiled. "She's my new roommate! Dr. Coleman is going to try to send her home when I get released."

"And why would she do that?" Tony limped over to kiss Kate. "Because you insist on reminding everyone that you are a doctor too?"

"I know what I'm doing. She is in much better hands with her mother who also happens to be a doctor than with anyone here."

"If you say so," Tony looked at his daughter bright eyed faced. "Well I for one am all for having my little Dilly home. It's lonely at home without my girls. It's just me and Bass when Angela has to go to the café and he really isn't good conversation," Tony propped himself up in bed next to Kate.

"You want to hold her?"

"Of course!"

Kate carefully removed Dylan from her shoulder laying her on Tony's chest. "She had a really good feeding so she should be ready for a nap."

"I always like to nap after a good meal," chuckled Tony.

Dylan wiggled about on Tony's chest.

Tony placed his hand under her bottom to hold her steady. "You can't move too much, Dilly! Daddy can't hold you that well."

Dylan stopped moving as she wiggle her tiny bottom against Tony's cast, curling up against his chest.

"There you go, nice and comfy. I can't wait until I have these stupid casts off and I can really hold you, the right way."

Dylan yawned, taking Tony's shirt into her tiny hand. She rubbed her face against his chest as she closed her eyes.

"You may not can hold her but she sure is holding you," smiled Kate.

Tony smiled. "You like cuddling up with Daddy, huh?"

Kate laid a baby blanket over Dylan before resting her head next to her daughter's on Tony's chest. She laid her hand on Dylan's back as she closed her eyes.

Tony smiled, wrapping his arm around Kate pulling her close to him. "You want to cuddle with Daddy too?"

"Don't flatter yourself," said Kate as she wrapped covers around herself. "I've been up every three hours feeding her. I'm tired. You okay with her while I nap?"

"I watched her while you were having surgery, I think I can handle her while you nap."

Tony sat quietly watching Kate and Dylan sleep peacefully in his arms, undisturbed until Dylan woke up crying. Kate fed Dylan and changed her just in time for a visit from Angela.

"Aww, give me my precious little granddaughter," cooed Angela taking Dylan from Kate, showering her with kisses. "Nonna has missed her little angel!"

"You saw her yesterday, Angela," replied Kate.

"I know but I feel like she changes so much between each visit.

Is it possible she has gotten cuter since yesterday?"

"Yes, it is," beamed Tony. "Cause she has!"

"I can't believe they let her out the NICU already."

"Her doctor says she is really doing well, they want to release her next week."

"They should release her!" said Angela, bouncing Dylan in her arms. "My grandbaby needs to be home with her family. Her Nonna and Auntie Janie need her home!"

"Auntie Jane needs who home?" asked Jane, walking in with Abby.

"Jane, I thought you were working a case?"

"Case closed!" said Jane, holding up a pizza box. "Who's up for pizza? Or pizza sauce for those who still can't chew."

"How considerate," retorted Tony.

Abby's eyes grew big as she noticed Dylan in Angela's arms. "Baby!" she squealed. "When did she get out of intensive care?"

"This morning," said Kate.

"Two days working a case and I miss everything," Jane made silly faces at Dylan. "I missed you! Yes, I did! Yes, I did!"

"Never thought I would hear Rizzoli use baby talk," joked Tony.

"Shut the hell up!"

"Jane! Watch your mouth around the baby!" scolded Angela, covering Dylan's ears.

"Sorry!" cringed Jane. "Aunt Janie has to remember to watch her words around you…" Jane looked at Kate and Tony. "Any chance she will have a name soon? It's been five days, she should have a name."

"Don't rush them, Jane! They will name her when they are ready!"

"I have a few suggests if you need some. I like the name Lefty Grove DiNozzo."

"Isn't Lefty Grove a former Red Sox?" asked Tony.

"Yep! Hall of Famer! Perfect name!"

"We're a Nationals family."

"Nats suck!"

"That maybe so but I'm not naming my daughter, Lefty," said Kate.

"Okay, Babe Ruth?"

"Please stop."

"You have to name her something! You don't want her going home as "Baby Girl DiNozzo"."

Tony and Kate looked at each other.

"For your information," said Kate. "We have picked out a name."

"Great! What is it?"

Kate took a deep breath. "Her name is Dylan."

"Dylan? Huh? That's not what I expected, thought she would be named after some female scientist or something."

"We named her after my mom," said Tony.

"It's beautiful. I think it fits her well," said Angela.

"Dylan DiNozzo? Not bad!" said Jane.

"She has a middle name too," replied Kate.

"What is it?"

Tony and Kate smiled at each other.

"Her middle name is Jane. Dylan Jane DiNozzo," stated Tony.

Jane's mouth dropped open. "Are you serious? You're joking, right? You're being funny?"

Kate shook her head. "Nope."

"You named her after me?" said Jane with a shaky voice.

"It's our way of saying thank you," said Kate. "You were there for us, for her, for me, when we really needed you and I'm not just talking about her delivery. I owe you my life, Jane. My world."

"You don't owe me anything, Maura. You're my best friend, I would be there for you, her, regardless."

"Well just think of it as a thank you for going above and beyond the call of duty," said Tony.

"That's so sweet," sighed Abby, hugging Jane.

Tears began to fall from Jane's eyes.

"Jane, are you crying?" asked Kate.

Jane wiped her face. "No! I just have something in my eye!"

"Yeah, tears!" chuckled Angela.

Jane laughed, nervously. "Why not, Abby? She's been here for you too!"

"Not like you, Jane. You deserve this, I'll get them on the next baby," said Abby.

"Next baby?" questioned Kate.

"Yeah, you guys can't just be one and done! She needs company! I'll give you guys a year or two before I bug you for another one!" Abby smirked.

"I want two more!" interjected Angela. "Soon! Like in the next year!"

Jane looked at Kate and Tony. "Looks like you two will be busy!"

Kate and Tony laughed.

Jane took Dylan from Angela. "Well, hello Miss Dylan Jane! I think that's my new favorite name!"

"It definitely suits her," said Abby.

"You know what this means, right? We are so getting matching Red Sox jerseys!"

"You don't have to take it that far," said Tony. "Her middle name is Jane, not her first name."

"I know! Mine will say "Jane" and hers will say "Dylan Jane"! We are going to look so cool at your first baseball game when we beat the Nationals!"

Tony rolled his eyes.

"Okay, let's have some pizza," said Angela, disturbing plates to everyone.

Jane walked over to the window bouncing Dylan in her arms. "Named after me or not, I'll always be here to protect you, Dylan. I don't know if I would die for you but I would come pretty damn close," Jane kissed Dylan' head, looking into her green eyes. "Super close."

Dylan looked up at Jane and cooed.
