Pokѐmon Journey I: Violet's Trial
Chapter 28: The Memorial Stone
Violet's Point of View:
When my business was all finished and done, I grabbed the boys and headed to Five Isle. It was mostly a fish imported town that had two paths that led to two different ends to the island. When I first arrived, I told the boys to go to bed and that I'd see them in the morning. My brother quickly agreed and fell into his bed while Alex fought a little harder. I had to promise him not to be out the entire night so that I got some sleep, but I had to do some researching and scouting before I could call it a night. He finally relented when he was too tired to argue any longer.
I left with all my pokemon should I have needed them, but most of them were asleep. Only Chalcedony was still awake with me, somehow extremely active under the moonlight. He and I took the path north of the town first. We'd discovered three new pokemon as we headed north and northeast to a cave up there. I'd gathered information on all three of them.
Hoppip, the cottonweed pokemon. Its body is so light; it must grip the ground firmly with its feet to keep from being blown away. They do enjoy gentle breezes though. Hoppip are quite common and can be found almost anywhere on grass and water areas around Five Isle where there isn't a strong current.
Hoppip had been a small pokemon that had been pink in color, a rich, dark color at that, with two leaves on its head that easily caught the wind whenever it blew. It had a mouth and small yellow eyes. I ended up seeing them really no matter where I went as they flew on the soft breeze of the islands.
Qwilfish, the balloon pokemon. The small spikes covering its body developed from scales. They inject a toxin that causes fainting. Qwilfish are common in all water areas in this region around Five, Six and Seven Isle.
Qwilfish had been a spiky water pokemon and pretty aggressive to be around. While we didn't get directly closer to one, we ended up seeing to males fighting and it was pretty gruesome. Needless to say, that even with the power of my team, I didn't stick around for an unnecessary and bloody fight.
Remoraid, the jet pokemon. Using its dorsal fin as a suction pad, it clings to a mantine's underside to scavenge for leftovers. It has superb accuracy. The water it shoots out can strike even moving pretty from more than one hundred yards away. Remoraid are common in all water areas in this region around Five, Six and Seven Isle.
The remoraid seemed to swim in schools as Chalcedony and I traveled to the further corner of the island. They never seemed to be too bothered by us, but we still left them be. They were a small, long bodied fish pokemon that weren't too large, but they seemed to have some pretty large teeth and large eyes on the sides of their head. Tiny fins were near its head while one large caudle fin was at the back.
We then got to a point in our search up north where it was all water and we were unable to move forward any further, we needed either a boat, a water pokemon or a flying pokemon to get us across. I had sighed and was about to turn back when Chalcedony surprised me with a new move, psychic, to carry us over the water. I carried my own pokemon so he didn't exhaust himself too quickly and we easily made it over the waves without my flying pokemon, just… not as fast thought.
On the last island, we ended up running into a large house out there that belonged to a few rich ladies and men that we swam around. Everything seemed to be quiet except for a butler that was standing outside on the water's edge where the house was. He was calling out to the island that had been at the very tip of the northern part of Five Isle, it was called Lost Cave, and apparently, dark and ghost type pokemon that could easily phase and see through the fog inside the cave could easily make it in and out without any trouble.
Chalcedony landed us on the island before the entrance to the cave. "You can guide us through this thing, right Chalcedony?" My pokemon nodded, as a dark type that did well with this kind of environment, he glowed and jumped atop of my shoulders so we wouldn't be separated. With his body lighting the way and destroying any illusions the ghost pokemon tried to place on us, we walked into the cave filled with a dense fog.
Along the way, we ended up finding two new pokemon that I'd never seen before, one was a ghost type (lovely) that seemed to love grabbing at my hair, but other than that, it left me be. I pulled out my pokedex to see what the pokemon was.
Misdreavus, the screech pokemon. It loves to bite and yank people's hair from behind without warning, just to see their shocked reactions. It likes playing mischievous tricks such as screaming and wailing to startle people at night. Misdreavus are rare and tend to only be seen in this region in the Lost Cave on Five Isle.
It was quite the silly pokemon that loved to play games with its friends while picking at my hair from time to time (which Chalcedony growled at the pokemon and nearly tore its own puff hair out if I didn't stop him). It was a small dark grey green with bright pink lines on the sides of its head and large yellow eyes with black pupils.
The other pokemon in the caves… not so much. It was more devilish and tended to be mean to the misdreavus and other ghost types here. Chalcedony actually bit one of the tiny dark, bird pokemon's legs at one time, causing it to screech. It retracted its yellow leg with bite marks on them and used its talons to grip onto a ledge. Its coloring was black and it almost looked like its feathers were shaped like a hat on its head. Its white eyes with red centers glared at Chalcedony before it flew off into the deeper parts of the cave.
Murkrow, the darkness pokemon. It is said that when chased, it lures its attacker onto dark mountain trails where the foe will get lost. It is feared and loathed by many, it is believe to bring misfortune to all those who see it at night. Murkrow are rare and tend to only be seen in this region in the Lost Cave on Five Isle.
That annoying bird didn't show up again while we explored the rest of the cave.
We found no sign of any trouble as we looked through all the rooms, but from many people getting lost, we found lots of items that seemed to have been left behind. I grabbed most of it to bring back with us since there were items that looked like they meant a lot to people.
I suddenly heard a scream, and Chalcedony pointed me in the right direction to where it came from, and I took off in that direction after it. Once I stepped into the room Chalcedony jumped off my shoulders and lit it up, showing me a frightened woman on the ground in a torn dress, wild hair, and was being pecked at by the same murkrow. Chalcedony sped off toward it and leapt over the woman's body to smash into it, knocking it off to the side. The bird flew off, frightened of my dark type and I hurried over to the woman to see if she was alright. By the time I reached her, she fainted. I sighed and threw her body against my back and carried her while Chalcedony lead the way back out with all the stuff we found being carried by his new psychic attack.
Once we made it outside, I saw the butler man still waiting at the same spot he was last time. Chalcedony lifted us up into the air and we flew toward him. Once he saw the girl in my arms, the man flipped out and came at me on the water's edge and took the young woman from me into his own arms.
"Thank you…" he bowed to me before he took off toward the house. I yawned and stretched before I looked back at Chalcedony.
"There's nothing to the north up here, and I'm start to get tired, let's go back to the pokemon center and get some rest, we'll head out to the field in the morning."
"Bre!"

Chalcedony and I had gotten back with plenty of time to spare in the night for a good long rest with the boys. I still didn't get the most sleep since we had to try and get going pretty earlier, so we ended up getting up at almost six. Not my normal amount of sleeping time, but enough I guess to keep me going. I'd sleep more tonight.
The boys got up shortly after my team and I had already eaten breakfast and left all the items with Nurse Joy for a lost and found for those who lost items in the Lost Cave. The boys had stumbled in; tired, even with the extra sleep they had over me. And I thought I was the one that needed more sleep then them!
"Hurry up you two!" I snapped at the two of them as they slowly ate their breakfast. "We got stuff to do and places to search!"
My yelling didn't seem to really improve their speed much at all, they still moved slower than slowpokes. I rolled my eyes at them and eventually gave up, leaving without them.
I headed toward the south this time, planning to check out the Rocket hideout and see where that group was that was checking over this island. It would take them some time to do a thorough search, so I'd be in luck if I found them.
The meadow was beautiful as I passed through it; it reminded me a lot of my home town with all the trees and the soft grass, the gentle breeze and the serine quiet. A few flowers were spread in areas where there was sun. Once I was down in the field, I found another one of those new pokemon we'd never seen. It seemed to be large fluffy and puffy around its small head and body with a striped tail of brown and tan-like white. It had a long set of ears that were dark brown and short, stubby legs and arms. It had a white circle on its chest and seemed to leap from the trees like crazy. I pulled out my pokedex to see what it was.
Sentret, the scoot pokemon. A very cautious pokemon, it raises itself up using its tail to get a better view of its surroundings. If it spots and enemy, it cries loudly to warn it's kind. Sentret are quite common in this area of the region and tend to live in the Five Isle Meadow on Five Isle, the Water Path on Six Isle, and the Canyon Entrance on Seven Isle.
I put away my pokedex and with Amber at my side and Chalcedony sleeping on my shoulder, along with all my other pokemon at the ready should I need them, we passed though the field ready and waiting for anything we come across.

For a while, all things were quiet as I made my way through the meadow. Chalcedony peeked his head out through the back of the hood to my jacket every now and then, but constantly kept himself out of the sun if he could avoid it. It might have been due to his black color, he'd stick out like a sore thumb, but then again, so does a trainer in a forest of wild pokemon.
As we got further in, I started to see what looked like the outlines of a building in the woods. I stepped closer to it and slowly started to see the outline of a giant red letter when I saw a flash of black that I knew wasn't Chalcedony and I jumped backward and scampered up a tree, hiding behind the branches. Amber scurried up there with me and we watched the base from above. I quickly pulled out my map and marked where the base was while we still had a moment before I watched the Team Rocket guards patrol the area.
"Looks like we'll have to jump through the trees to get by without them noticing," I whispered to Amber. My electric pokemon nodded and leapt first into the next tree while a guard's head was turned. Then she motioned for me to follow, I did so. The tree squeaked and beat slightly under my landing which made the guard turn and I scramble out of his sight, but thankfully, he never saw me.
We quickly moved out and beyond the area that Team Rocket was occupying to look along the paths and islands to the south of that area, where apparently Team Rocket members were looking for the next gem and had the other password I needed to get inside.
I had Chalcedony lift me over the water with both him and Amber in my arms as we flew over the ocean between the islands that were calmer than the open sea. I had just landed onto another set of an island before I heard someone shouting in the air and I turned to look and see if it was Team Rocket that had found me.
It was even worse than that.
Vince was shouting at the top of his lungs at me while riding on his moltres. That idiot! Is he trying to get us found? I hissed as he continued his persistence. I turned to Amber. "Shut him up."
My electric type nodded and she took off in the direction of my brother, leaping up into the trees and then leaping up onto his fire type bird. I watched from my hidden spot where I was in the woods as she grabbed Moltres' pokeball and returned him which caused the two of them to fall to the ground, but thankfully quietly (or at least without my brother screaming as he fell) and the two of them crashed into a tree. I dashed through the woods toward them and found my brother in a heap on the ground while Amber was calmly sitting on a tree branch. She gave me a grin before she leapt down and grabbed onto the side of my shoulder, near Chalcedony's head.
"What the hell, Sis?" Vince growled at me as he got to his feet and cracked the aches in his body from where he fell and tried to rub out the pain from doing so. He cried out when he hit a sensitive spot on his back. "Why'd you do that?"
"I've been trying to sneak around the island so that Team Rocket doesn't know we're here, and you were just about to blow that all away!" I snapped at him with a hushed tone, "What the hell were you thinking with flying on Moltres? That's a dead giveaway that we're here or not far off! It'll throw all of Rose's operations on the back burner and she'll lay low so we can't get her!"
My brother blinked and rubbed the back of his head nervously. "Heh, sorry Sis. Alex and I were just trying to find you since you left on us while we were waking up, and how did you have so much energy?"
"Got enough sleep to last," I shrugged my shoulders at him, "Chalcedony and I checked out the entire upper side of the island last night, so there was no need to go up there again. I found five new pokemon from the pokedex up there and I found one more coming down south here." I paused for a moment and it suddenly dawned on me that there was only one male before me (well, human anyways.) "Hey, where's Alex?"
"There you two are," Vince and I looked up to see my boyfriend jump down from the tree and his alakazam gently float down beside him. Alex took my hand in his own and kissed my forehead. "Good morning, sorry I took so long to get here since Team Rocket was in the area I was trying to be discreet since they don't know were here yet."
I sighed, "Well, at least one of us got it right."
Alex glared over at Vince, "What did you do this time?"
"I didn't do anything!" My brother tried to defend himself.
"He flew on Moltres and was calling out my name." Alex face palmed before he growled at my brother.
"You could have done something a little bit smarter Vince!" Chalcedony jumped off my shoulder and landed on Alex's and growled with him. My brother took a step back in fear from the anger in both their faces. "How about riding around on your Lapras around the edge of the island next time so we don't get caught?"
"Alex, hush. You too, Chalcedony." The two of them quieted their growling and Chalcedony leapt back onto my shoulders and under my hood. Alex sneered at my brother, but otherwise dropped the subject. "Now we need to get going and find that group of Team Rocket members that came south of the base, if we're lucky, they should still be here and we can get the password from them." Both boys and our pokemon nodded. "Amber, I want you to go with Vince since he doesn't have a small pokemon or one that can hide or get away unnoticed. Alex, you stay with Alakazam and Chalcedony will be with me."
The boys nodded and took off with the respected pokemon assigned. We all headed off in a different direction of the woods to see if we'd find the group. Chalcedony kept his eyes out for anything that didn't look normal (or for the guys, whichever one he wanted to sink his teeth into first) as we continued along.
We suddenly got to a clearing where we actually did see some Rocket grunts and they seemed like they were looking for something. I watched as they moved around a bit before I caught a glimpse of something off to the side, it was a light that was reflected in my direction. A hand then came out for me to see, one with a ring on it and a black band on the wrist. It was Alex. A second hand shot out next to him and I saw they were black as well, but no ring, it had to be Vince.
I was about to give a signal back to them when I heard a rustle up behind me. Unsure of whom it was I rolled under the ferns to the side and behind a thick tree. Using the darkness of its uprooted roots, I quickly dived under there and then used a branch to smooth out the dirt before it as a strange man walked up to where I was a few moments ago.
The man walked out of the woods, quite confident in himself with his hands in his pockets and glasses over his eyes. He looked much like a scientist with the white lab coat and brown pants, brushed back blackish gray hair and an evil grin to set it all off. He came up to the Rockets that were in the area and the Rockets jumped at his presence. Most of them shouted at him to leave when he got there, and when he didn't, only stood there and chuckled to himself, they sent out their pokemon.
I watched as they started to have their pokemon battle him and I prepared to jump out there and help him, but he surprised me by sending out an electrode which he had roll between all of them and self-destruct. The pokemon lit up light a light-bulb and suddenly went off, engulfing all of the members and their pokemon inside. All members and their pokemon were on the ground, all bruised up, slightly singed, but all knocked out.
The man only laughed and returned his pokemon before he walked up to one of the members and grabbed him by the neck. He squeezed and the man cried out. I could barely hear their conversation from here, but I knew he had to have been getting information out of them.
Once the Team Rocket member had told the man all he wanted to know, he dropped him and ran for the opposing forest line from where we were. I hissed and suddenly leapt out of the trees and ran after him. None of the Team Rocket members saw me, but the man glanced back and did. Once I was seen, his smile was gone and he almost looked angry as he took off. I heard Alex and Vince coming up behind me with their pokemon and Amber as we slowly started to catch up to this guy before he turned a corner on us behind a hill and we skidded to a stop when we saw him driving away in a speed boat. His boat was much too fast for our pokemon to catch up with, so we were back at square one.
"Shit!" I hissed out, and kicked at the dirt, "Now what do we do, he's knocked out the Rocket's and there's no way we'll get the password now!"
"Maybe that's what he got from them, the password," Alex said softly to me, rubbing my arm to try and calm me down, "We just have to find him now, since apparently he wants to get into the base too."
"What about at that island over there?" Vince pointed over at the island that was at the furthest corner of Five Isle, "I bet we might be able to see where he's going from there since it looks like he headed off toward either Six or Seven Isle."
"Then let's go check it out boys; Chalcedony, can you get me across?" My dark pokemon nodded from behind my head and used his new move to lift me up into the air. The guys gapped at Chalceodny's new power, but I just let it slide, I had too many things to worry about then the boys and what they were fussing over.

It didn't take us very long to get over to the island, but from there we could be walking for the longest of time. We hurried to the bottom of the island where we found a young trainer, probably a little older then ourselves, morning over a grave before him, and then a large, vast sea was all that we saw before us.
"Well I don't see him, Vince," I sighed and looked off at the sea, "We'll never found out which way he went now."
"We'll have to split up then and go to each of the islands." Alex groaned as he fell to the ground, resting his head against another rock that was there next to the grave.
"Hey! Don't touch that!" The young man, at the grave, shouted at Alex and shoved him aside to make sure the rock wasn't moved. He sighed when he saw that it wasn't.
"Sorry man, I thought this little rock was safe to lean on since it wasn't the large one you seemed to be graving over." Alex said, getting up off the ground with Vince's assistance. Alex took my hand in his own.
"No, this entire end of the island is the grave for my onix; he died recently, so I made this grave for him." I saw the man weep a tear and I looked up at the hardship that he worked on just for his pokemon.
"Was he very young?" I softly asked the question the young man.
The trainer shook his head. "No, he was my grandfather's onix back when he was a trainer. Onix was almost eighty years old."
"I'm very sorry for you loss." I patted his shoulder. "Is there anything we can do?"
"He always loved lemonade, if you could get a can, I'd really appreciate that." The trainer smiled through his tears. "Onix loved it drink it, but he also loved eating the can…"
"Then I guess we're in luck," everyone turned to see the lemonade can in my hands. "Nurse Joy packed me one for something to drink while I was out here, but I wasn't hungry at the time, I guess now is as good a time as any to give it to your onix."
The trainer nodded and took the drink from my hands. He opened it and poured it into the spot right before the edge of the rock. He then after that dug a small hole and crushed the can in his hands before he stuck it down inside. The trainer sighed before he got back to his feet.
"Thank you for that, I'm sure Onix is enjoying that drink and the can, wherever his soul is now." Tears still slipped from his eyes, but he quickly whipped them away and pulled his bag out from behind the statue. "Here," he handed us two small cylinders that were colored silver, "Take these for all the trouble I caused you."
I slowly took the item into my hands and opened it. On the inside was some sort of liquid silvery metal. "I hope I don't offend you, but what exactly is this?"
"It's a type of steel coating that some pokemon can use to evolve, should the conditions be right and the bond between pokemon and human are strong enough. It's called a 'metal coat'. It's apparently collected from underground and then sealed in these containers." The trainer explained.
I heard a suddenly escaping from my pokeballs and suddenly all my pokemon were out and around me. I gasped and turned to face them. "What are you guys doing? Team Rocket could still be around!"
But they heard nothing from me; all seemed content with looking at the silver container, especially Ruby. She seemed to be quite more interested in it than the others were and reached toward it. Her scythe arm grazed the top of it and she let it sit there on top, until she turned white…
"Ruby!" I gasped as I stood before my bug type pokemon.
A sudden releasing I heard to the side of me and I turned to see that Vince's onix had released itself from its pokeball and did the same thing with the other metal coat I had in my hands and then it started to glow as well.
"Onix!" my brother cried out at his pokemon.
The two pokemon were covered in the white light before both containers of the metal coat somehow came apart and turned into liquid metal themselves, covering their bodies entirely before it molded into the white light and the pokemon's forms began to change. Both considerably got larger in size, I watched as Ruby's body got quite thicker for the armor that went around her entire body. Her wings also seemed to change in shape, almost looking like that of a butterfree's, but thinner, and not as wide.
The light suddenly flashed before both of us and I suddenly saw that both our pokemon were now evolved with the metal coats. Ruby was red in color now with some black accents here and there. Her scythes had now changed to pincers that still look quite sharp and could cut should they need to. Her new wings were also edge with the red armor coating, just around their edges while the wings themselves were white. Her horn like features on her head had also grown a tad longer, but had smoothed out rather than come to a point like her previous evolution. Her eyes had also changed; they were a liquid golden now with a large black center. The last thing I'd noticed was her feet, no longer with three claws like toes; she had on one claw on either side of the foot, the front and back (the one in the front easily considerable to be longer.)
With Vince's onix, it was an entirely different story. Its body was now made of steel boulders; some of them actually had some longer, thin boulders coming out of the side of them, almost like perches on a feeder for bird pokemon. Its face was much longer width wise and its eyes were now red. It traded its horn in for some teeth that looked like it could eat the center of the earth (man that mouth was huge!)
"Whoa!" I gasped as I looked over my pokemon and Vince's, "You look so beautiful Ruby… and quite deadly to all that oppose, if I do say so." My bug pokemon (at least I think she still was) grinned at me and nodded.
"Dude! Onix, you evolved!" My brother grinned as he leapt up onto his head and the newly evolved pokemon nodded with him on its head and Vince holding on for life while laughing his ass off.
"Let's see what these two are…" Alex muttered and pulled out his pokedex.
Siczor, the pincer pokemon and the evolved form of scyther. Scizor have a body with the hardness of steel. It is not easily fazed by ordinary attacks. Its wings are not often used for flying, but can fly should need be. They are mostly used to improve speed and adjust body temperature. There are no known scizor nests in the region.
He then turned it to Vince's pokemon.
Steelix, the iron snake pokemon and the evolved form of onix. Steelix tend to live even further underground the onixs. This pokemon is known to dig toward the earth's core, reaching a depth of over six-tenths of a mile underground. Its body has been compressed deep under the ground. As a result, it is even harder than diamond. There are no known steelix nests in the area.
"So they both became steel types, but retained one of their earlier types… Ruby, you're still a bug type." I slowly nodded as I looked over this information. "While it leaves you now even more at a disadvantage to fire, you have a higher defense and stronger attacks. You're also not affected by electricity anymore, and not so much ice either."
"And Steelix is still a ground type," Vince noted, "While fire may now hurt him, water doesn't, nor grass. This is pretty cool!
"Sure they may have evolved," Alex began as he caught our attention, "But what about that scientist? We still have to find him if we want that password."
"Scientist?" The trainer next to us questioned, "You mean that one that was on a speed boat?"
"Yes, actually, how'd you know?" I asked him.
"He drove by a short while ago, headed off in the direction of Six Isle, I think in the southern end of the island, but I'm not sure about that last fact."
"That's good enough for us!" I grinned, "Now we have a place to go, let's get going boys, we have to get to Six Isle!" I returned most of my pokemon except the small ones and Amethyst. I jumped onto her and she took off into the sky, not bothering to wait up for the boys. The boys shouted at me to wait up for them, but I refused to listen (that I was having a good time while I watched them wither in annoyance.)
"Wait up, Sis!"
"Violet!"
I laughed as I flew off on Amethyst with Amber and Chalcedony and headed off in the direction of Six Isle, ready to face that damn scientist that took what we needed.
Although… if we were lucky, maybe he'd lead us to another gem as well.
