I do not own Cats, but I love this classic musical! (And for Nibs' experience with this, see my story Nibs and Cats)
Tinkerbell flew up to the front of the room. She asked Peter to come up with her and hold the microphone. A slow, mellow intro followed her cue for the Twins to begin the song.
Daylight, see the dew on a sunflower
And a rose that is fading
Roses wither away
Like the sunflower I yearn to turn my face to the dawn
I am waiting for the day
Nibs' eyes widened in excitement. If there was one style of music he really liked, other than disco, it was Broadway! He rose, saying to the others, "I know Munkustrap said this in the musical, but I don't think he'd mind if Mr. Mistofellees filled in for him here!"
Now Old Deuteronomy, just before dawn
Through a silence you feel you could cut with a knife
Announces the cat who can now be reborn
And come back to a different Jellicle life
He then struck a pose, reaching out, as if beckoning Old Deuteronomy. Then when the music changed to a moodier tone, he sat down again, looking disdainfully over his shoulder as if seeing Grizabella. Beside him, Tinkerbell smiled at Peter and continued her song.
Memory, turn your face to the moonlight Memory, all alone in the moonlight
Let your memory lead you
Open up, enter in
If you find there the meaning of what happiness is
Then a new life will begin
I can smile at the old days
I was beautiful then
I remember a time I knew what happiness was
Let the memory live again
Tink left her spot on Peter's shoulder, and flew across the room as if pacing. Peter then motioned for Nibs to come up and hold the microphone so he could keep singing with her.
Burnt out ends of smoky days Daylight, I must wait for the sunrise
The stale cold smell of morning
The streetlamp dies, another night is over
Another day is dawning
I must think of a new life
And I mustn't give in
When the dawn comes tonight will be a memory too
And a new day will begin
As Peter resumed his seat, Wendy was blinking back the tears that were forming in her eyes. This song was so pretty! She then heard Nibs speak again as he came up.
"I know Silabub sang this in the musical, but like I said before, she's not here so she won't mind!"
Sunlight, through the trees in summer
Endless masquerading
Tinkerbell nodded and sang the next part with him. Like a flower as the dawn is breakingShe then sang by herself, The memory is fading
She then took a deep breath and sang the last part of the song.
Touch me, it's so easy to leave me If you touch me you'll understand what happiness is
All alone with the memory
Of my days in the sun
Look, a new day has begun
"Tinkerbell, that was beautiful!" Wendy said as she wiped her eyes.
"And on that cheerful note," Nag started.
"We're going next!" Plug finished as Slightly came back to run the DJ table.
