Chapter 28: Bringing the House Down
As the ferry docked, all fighting stopped. Everyone was silent. The entire prison held its breath, waiting to see what would happen.
Two men in black body armor stepped onto the dock, rifles slung at their shoulders. They walked to the main prison wall and began sticking devices to the concrete. More men came out and began wiring the blinking objects.
Once they were done, they stepped back onto the boat. On deck another group of men, rounding off the crew at six were prepping and lowering a smaller boat with an outboard motor. The men stepped into it; the one in the lead raised his finger over a small black remote. They sped off and as they did he pressed a button on the remote. The devices on the wall blew, pulverizing the walls in a burst of fire.
As the smaller boat sped away a roar erupted from the depths of Saint Hannah. Prisoners swarmed, no longer holding any loyalties except to themselves. A stampede thundered to the waiting ferry. People were left in the dust as the strongest, sneakiest, and most ruthless took spots on the boat, clamoring for salvation.
As it filled, the prisoners tore away from the dock. The boat crashed through the roaring waves.
Back in the prison there was a moment of stunned silence before the population erupted into anarchy.
