Chapter 27
Ellington walked through the door after coming back from seeing Rydel in prison where he kept on asking her what to do and what to say to Ross as he had finally decided that today would be the day he would finally come clean and get everything he's been wanting to say off his chest. Whilst in the prison, Rydel kept stressing to him that he had to tell the truth no matter how much it hurt Ross because he deserves to know – and Ellington deserves whatever the outcome is.
When Ellington walked through the door, Ross was sat on the couch staring into space. "Where's Leila?" Ellington asked, slowly coming into the living room more – for some reason he was frightened by the atmosphere that was growing.
"Asleep." Ross responded.
Ellington walked over to the couch and sat by Ross who immediately stood up when Ellington sat down "Is everything okay..?" Ellington asked.
"Would you lie to me if I asked you something?" Ross asked.
Ellington shook his head "No," Ellington said , which made Ross scoff "why..?" Ellington asked, Ross didn't respond.
Ross stayed silent for a short while "Someone called you earlier."
"Oh. Anybody interesting?" Ellington asked.
"Very."
"Who?"
"Put it this way... I'm wishing I never picked up the phone," Ross said, shaking slightly as he was mixed with angry emotions as well as upset ones too, so he wasn't sure if he should cry or tear off Ellington's head right there and then. Ellington began to think of who could have called after that sentence. "Does the name 'Georgia' ring any bells to you?" Ross asked.
Ellington's face dropped. "She told me everything so I told her everything because she couldn't understand why I was still living with you after Leila was born." Ross explained, having some sort of a smug grin on his face.
Ellington stood up from the couch "Look, Ross—"
Ross cut him off "I don't even wanna know, okay? I don't care." Ross turned around to walk away but Ellington grabbed him by the arm to stop him, resulting in Ross pushing him away "Why did you even go to see Rydel?" Ross asked. Ellington stayed silent. "WHY?!" Ross shouted.
Ellington hushed Ross "Shh! Leila's asleep, you're gonna wake her up."
Ross ignored him "Explain."
Ellington sighed "Alright. Um... Well... Everything was going fine with us and smooth sailing, yeah, it was great but... I don't know why I did it, I wasn't thinking straight—"
"Obviously."
Ellington went on to explain the rest of the story to Ross nervously, telling him why he did what he did as well as why he went to go see Rydel. Throughout his entire explanation it made Ross even more angrier and upset and he didn't think that was possible, but by the end of the explanation Ross had a tear fall down his face and his anger soon turned into sadness.
But not after Ellington tried to hug him and Ross punched him in the face as hard as he could. That was when he turned into a tearful mess. Ellington rubbed his face where Ross punched him "Yeah... I er... I kinda deserved that..."
Ross put his head into his hands and began to sob silently. He was literally tricked into thinking that Ellington really did care for him and loved him, and that what he and Ellington had was nothing compared to what Rydel and Ellington went through. If anything, by the end of it all, Ross got treated the exact same as Rydel did when they were together.
And that's sad.
Especially how he was too blind to even notice it and that what Rocky had been saying all along was true.
Ellington slowly stepped closer to Ross and gently hugged him. Stupidly, Ross accepted the hug but kept his head in his hands. "Look at me," Ellington said, Ross ignored him "Ross. Please look at me... Look at me!"
Ross slowly looked up at him where Ellington stroked his face gently, wiping away some tears before leaning in and slowly kissing him. He only got to kiss him lightly before Ross pushed him away "No! Stop! I know what you're doing. You can't make things better with a lousy kiss."
"I know... Sorry... but... I can try to fix things and make it better..."
Ross shook his head "No. You'll never make things better no matter what you do and how hard you try."
"Ross—"
Ross cut him off "Just... leave me alone. You've done enough damage these past 9, 10 months and I'm leaving before you can do any more."
Ellington's eyes widened and his face dropped "What..?"
Ross ignored the way Ellington looked at him before pushing passed him and making his way to the front door, doing his best to ignore Ellington's voice. "Ross! You can't just leave like this! What about Leila?!" Ellington asked, raising his voice in sheer panic before the door opened and Ross disappeared, shutting it behind him with a large slam "Ross!"
Once the door was shut and Ross had gone, Leila started crying from her room. Ellington ran his hands through his hair, sitting down on the couch and rubbing his head "Oh my, God... No... No."
Riker and Rocky sat at home watching TV when all of a sudden they were disturbed by someone hammering their fist against the front door. Both boys raised from their seat "Who the hell is that?" Rocky asked, slightly worried at how hard they were knocking – it was like they were trying to get in to kill them.
Riker made his way towards the front door, unlocking and undoing the latch "I don't know. Let me switch on my x-ray vision and have a look and I'll tell you."
Riker opened up the door and didn't get to say much before Ross came through the door and practically collapsed into Riker's arms sobbing where they both sunk to the floor quickly and too unexpectedly for Riker. Rocky walked over and shut the door. "Whoa! Whoa! Whoa!" Riker said, holding onto Ross as he sobbed into his chest and held onto him tightly "what's wrong?!" Riker asked.
Rocky crouched to the floor and stroked his back, having a small idea.
"Ross, what's wrong?" Riker asked.
"Rocky was right."
Would you say this story is heading in the direction of a happy-ish ending? I don't know.
Next chapter is the final one guys! :D
