Previously on Dragon's Heart

"Nothing's going to happen to her! She's going to wake up!" He snapped. They startled, realizing he'd heard them and they apologized quickly. "Get out." He snapped and shoved his way passed the nurses to sit back beside her bed. The nurses and doctors, reassured that she was fine and wasn't dying for the moment, filed out of the room as Natsu reached onto the bed and took her hand in his, giving the cold fingers a gentle warming squeeze. "Please wake up." He whispered.

Now…

"Finally!" Kaia panted when she caught Hyper/Excited. "Would ya just cooperate and hug me please?" She grumbled to the girl who appeared to be eight years old.

"But I wanna run some more!" The kid exclaimed as she bounced on her toes.

"No!" Kaia huffed and then tackled the kid to the ground. She hugged the squirming girl tightly until she was hugging herself. "Ugh! How many more now?"

"Well it's been about a week and you've gotten everything accept for three." Seiko said.

"Right. Lust, Love, and another one you won't frickin tell me." Kaia pouted. Seiko nodded and helped the other bluenette back to her feet. "Why won't you tell me exactly?" She asked.

"It's not like you'd remember that time anyways." Seiko grumbled.

"Well yeah but if you can tell me what the emotion is…"

"I don't want to to be the one to tell you!" Seiko snapped.

"Well who else is gonna tell me huh?" Kaia snapped. "Should I just ask one of the millions of people around us?" She snapped out gesturing to the empty street they were standing in. Seiko looked away, conflicted. "Please tell me. I need to know." Kaia frowned.

"Fine! It's Hate okay! And I hate having to tell you, I hate the fact that you need that emotion and those memories back!" She snapped.

"Well I already know I went insane from pain overdose, how bad can hate be compared to that?"

"A lot worse." Seiko whispered, thinking about what Kaia had said to Natsu and how broken he had looked. Kaia had no idea what to say. So she didn't say anything. She just turned and headed down the street, a feeling of intuition guiding her to where another shard of her soul waited. Seiko followed reluctantly.

O~O~O~O

"Natsu….. I don't think she's waking up any time soon. Why not come to the guild?" Lucy tried to persuade him. Natsu glared at her. "Everyone's worried about you…. I know she's your mate, but she'll wake up, and she'll be upset that you've been treating yourself so poorly, I mean you barely eat anymore and-"

"And I deserve a lot worse than this!" Natsu snapped, finally at the end of his rope. He was tired—unable to sleep with Kaia's words haunting him along with the guilt he felt and the fact that she wasn't there next to him, her chilled body cooling his down throughout the night—and he was sick of everyone trying to convince him to leave her be. It had worked just ssssoooooooooo well the last time!

"What do you mean?" Lucy frowned.

"You have no clue what she was like! Jesus, she was stuck in that facility for a month, containing her magic power inside her body constantly! I can't even imagine that kind of pain! Seiko told me that Kaia and her were hoping and begging for me to realize something was wrong, to come and get them, to save them from that pain! And you all convinced me that I was just being overprotective! You all told me I had nothing to worry about and now Kaia hates me! I knew in my gut that something was wrong but I waited too long to act on it, and now she hates me, and she's basically in a coma because I just sat at the guild and didn't do anything when I felt something wrong!" He growled.

"What do you mean, Natsu, Kaia doesn't hate you-"

"She told me. She said 'I hate you, Natsu'. She screamed it at me." He mumbled, looking truly defeated. The blonde didn't know how to handle her usually bright and happy friend being depressed.

"She didn't mean it Natsu. You guys are mates and you love each other so much it's actually kind of sickening in a cute way, there's no way she could really hate you, she was probably upset and said something she didn't mean-"

"You didn't see the look on her face." He muttered brokenly as he stared at Kaia's inert body. She looked skinny, and a little paler than normal, it worried the Slayer.

"Everyone says things they don't mean when they're hurting Natsu." Lucy tried to reason.

"She looked like she meant it." He muttered.

"Natsu-"

"I ignored the feeling that something was wrong, I'm the reason she had to endure so much pain. You can't even begin to understand what that's like. I'm supposed to protect her, 'The mate takes care of the dragon, and the dragon protects that mate'. I failed her, I was supposed to protect her, and I failed. I deserve this and so much worse, but she doesn't. She didn't do anything wrong, and yet she's had to go through so much." He mumbled. "I feel so guilty. Of course she hates me, I hate me too. I broke my promise, the single most important part about mates is trusting them to always protect you, to always take care of you and be there for you. And I failed. I failed her." He whispered.

"Natsu-"

"Please leave, Lucy. I don't-….. I can't be around people right now." He mumbled. "I'm not going to the guild."

The celestial mage sighed but didn't push him further. She went over and hugged Kaia's sleeping form, whispering lowly in her ear. "You better wake up soon because you need to smack some sense back into that pink headed idiot." She mumbled before leaving.

O~O~O~O

Kaia heard a murmur in her ear but it was garbled. She ignored it, used to words she couldn't make out and sentences so jumbled that nothing made sense. She focused back on the person in front of her. She was around Kaia's current again, and she was scowling harshly at the bluenette opposite her.

"Get away from me!" She snarled.

"I'm guessing you're Hate slash Violence." Kaia grumbled. The girl growled at her. Kaia rolled her eyes and lunged forward, slamming the girl into the wall. She struggled but Kaia already had her arms wrapped around the girl. She melted from existence in seconds and memories flashed before Kaia like always. She remembered Dimitri and the guild Black Lullaby. And she remembered the valley between the hills. Her teeth gnashed together and a snarl ripped from her throat.

"Damn that Natsu Dragneel!" She shouted suddenly. Seiko flinched and tears sprung to her eyes.

"Kaia he didn't-"

"He didn't save me! I trusted him and he didn't protect me like he promised! I hate him!" She growled.

"No, please!"

"I'll kill him!" She snapped. "He might have been my friend, but I hate him now! I hate him, he didn't save me!" She shouted. "He's the reason I went insane! If he had saved me I wouldn't have gone crazy!" Seiko shook her head and bite her lip against her tears.

"Let's just get the last two pieces so we can return to our body." Seiko whispered. Kaia growled but nodded. Seiko hoped that once the emotion and the memories settled Kaia would calm. They walked aimlessly while Kaia calmed down as the emotion settled. When Seiko merged with her shards, it was difficult to control the emotion right away. She was either extremely happy, or extremely pissed off.

After a while it was dark and Kaia was finally calm and seemed mostly normal aside from the fact that she was still missing two shards. Seiko paused and turned to look at her for a minute.

"Are you ready to continue searching now?" She asked. Kaia looked at her, seeming to study the bluenette across from her. "What?" Seiko asked. "Why are you staring at me?"

"Your eyes are purple. I never knew that." Kaia mumbled. Seiko blinked in confusion. Sure her eyes were violet but what did that have to do with anything?

"And?"

"And now I know why one of our eyes is purple and the other is blue. One is for me, one is for you." Kaia shrugged.

"Okay…. Let's just go." Seiko had no clue where that had come from.

"Sorry, totally random but I just noticed and started thinking." Kaia shrugged and then started walking in the direction her gut was telling her to go. They ended up standing outside Kaia's old apartment. And lots of weird noises were coming from inside. "Um….. It sounds almost like Sick is in there, but I got that feeling back along with all the memories." Kaia shuddered as she remembered her most recent train ride and groaned at the thought of transportation. She noticed Seiko was extremely quiet a few seconds later and ignored her churning stomach. "Seiko?" She frowned and found the girl heading for the stairs.

"I'll let you handle this one on your own." She said waving over her shoulder before heading downstairs. Kaia frowned and then shrugged before heading inside the apartment. There on a stripped down bed lay a girl who was humming and moaning. Kaia immediately understood why Seiko left her alone for this one.

"And I'm guessing you're Lust….." She muttered. The girl hummed and smirked.

"Come and embrace me." She purred. Kaia rolled her eyes and went over to hug the girl. She felt so awkward doing it, but the hug wasn't the most embarrassing part. All the memories that came afterward had her entire face flushing, and she started gasping as the sensation of pleasure washed through her, along with flashes of kisses, touches, pink hair, and wide smiles.

O~O~O~O

Natsu woke up from his unexpected nap when he heard loud beeping. His head shot up and he watched Kaia moving restlessly on the bed. Her scent changed a bit and he flushed, knowing that smell anywhere.

"What's happening is she okay?" Doctors came in when the alert of the irregular heartbeat reached them. Natsu shot up and began pushing then out quickly.

"It's fine, she's just dreaming or something, trust me." He practically growled. They frowned in confusion. "I promise, I know it's not serious." He said quickly. Kaia was panting as she moved on the bed.

"She's having trouble breathing-"

"No! It's just a really good dream." Natsu blushed as he hinted that. They finally understood and their eyes widened a bit.

"Well, since it's nothing serious, we'll leave." They said quickly.

"Hopefully she doesn't wake up too soon." A female nurse giggled quietly as she left behind the doctor. Natsu blushed for Kaia at that and turned to watch her. She was calming down.

"That's just bizarre. But I can understand why you're not waking up now." He joked quietly as he sat back down.

O~O~O~O

Outside, Seiko leaned against the building and combed her fingers through her hair boredly. It took a couple minutes but Kaia came out of the building, blushing and glaring.

"Why the hell did I have sex with Natsu!?" She exclaimed. Seiko bit her lip and tried to hold back her laugh.

"Cause, he's practically a sex god." She shrugged. "You didn't know your whole 'friends' thing came with extra benefits?" She asked casually just to mess with her.

"Wait, what?" Kaia frowned. "No, I…. I don't do that sort of thing!" She exclaimed. "But whatever, maybe he was my boyfriend or something, who cares. I still hate him now." She huffed. Seiko looked saddened when she said that.

"Let's go find the last piece." Seiko mumbled. Kaia was confused as to why hearing her say that she hated Natsu made her so upset. But she shrugged it off.

"It's Love right?"

"Yeah." Seiko nodded. "Where do you think it is?" She asked.

"Well…. It doesn't feel like it's inside of Magnolia, but it feels close." Kaia muttered and started walking toward where she felt the pull.

After not even a minute of walking, Seiko realized where they were headed. And she smiled.

"What are you smiling about?" Kaia asked.

"We're going home. Of course that's where she'd be." She snorted. Kaia gave her a weird look and then shrugged as she continued walking. They came to a stop outside of Natsu's house. Kaia glared and then her glare turned into a frown of confusion when she noticed the sign outside.

Natsu & Happy

Kaia & Rose

"What the….. Since when do I live here?" Kaia snapped. Seiko sighed.

"Just go get the last piece of your soul." Seiko muttered. The bluenette's frown deepened.

"You're not coming with me again?" Kaia asked.

"Nah, you're gonna need to work out all your feelings after this. I'll be waiting in the hospital." Seiko shrugged and then strolled away. Kaai watched her leave and then sighed before going up to the house, grudgingly. When she approached the door it opened and her mirror image greeted her with a soft smile.

"Welcome home." She said pleasantly. Kaia scoffed.

"This isn't my home. I have no clue what you're talking about." She grumbled.

"I know, but you will soon enough. Tell me, am I the last piece?" She asked.

"Yes."

"Then would you mind indulging me? I just wanna take a walk." She shrugged.

"Fine. But not a long one, we gotta get back." Kaia huffed.

"That's fine. Let's go." She smiled and took her hand as she closed the door. Kaia looked down as Love linked their fingers together.

"What are you doing?" She asked.

"You said you'd indulge me." Love smiled and then began walking around the back of the house. They found a trail and followed it, cutting through a meadow. Love stopped and picked a couple flowers, putting one in her hair, and then one in Kaia's. She smiled and continued walking.

"Are you sure you're not Happy?" Kaia muttered sarcastically. Love giggled.

"Love and Happy have similar properties." She shrugged. "Both give you a nice warm feeling." Kaia felt a tingle of warmth and a flash of Natsu's smiling face accompanied it, made it grow. She shook her head and the image vanished. She hated Natsu. Why was she feeling warm and fuzzy, like seeing or even imagining his face made her happy? Love continued to chat about random things and she would say things that would make images pop up in Kaia's memory. Natsu smiling, laughing, talking to her, giving her a necklace, she remembered the Ferris Wheel of Doom, the haunted house, the rides, the food, the fun they had. All of it had a warm glow about the images. She remembered her friends at FairyTail. Aggie, Rose, Lucy, Erza, Gray, Wendy, Carla, Happy, Makarov, Mirajane, Lisanna, Bickslow, Freed, Laxus, Gajeel, Macao, Wakaba, Cana, and countless others. But above all of them, the face that popped up most often was Natsu. Always, it would come back to him. His smile, his laugh, his voice, his words, his touches, his kisses. By the time Kaia stopped walking she was back in front of the house. And she was crying.

"He's my mate… I can't hate him…. I love him." She whispered, turning to look over at Love. But the emotion wasn't there. "You sneaky little…." She realized all throughout the walk Love was slowly seeping into her being, reminding her slowly. Kaia smiled through her tears. She touched the sign and sighed before looking at the house. Then she left.

Seiko waited beside the bed where their body was and sighed in annoyance. "Kaia sure is taking her own sweet time. C'mon idiot, we're pushing the time limit here." She huffed.

"Time limit?" Kaia asked as she stepped into the room. "Whoa, that's weird." She mumbled.

"So, how are you feeling now?" Seiko asked.

"You're not fooling me I hope you know. You're really wondering if I still think I hate Natsu or not." She said, crossing her arms over her chest.

"Well, you've got every memory back now, so yeah."

"No. He's our mate. I can't stay mad at him. I can't believe I told him I hate him. We need to get back so I can tell him." She said quickly.

"Okay." Seiko nodded and waited for her. Kaia stared at her. "What?"

"How do I do it?" Kaia asked.

"Oh! Right. We hug our body." Seiko shrugged. "So you go first."

"Why do I have to go first? Am I the guinea pig or something?"

"No…" Seiko muttered. Kaia gave her a look. "You're not I promise."

"Then why do I have to go first?" Kaia asked again.

"I'm not sure if our body will accept two souls! I'd rather Natsu have you than me. I mean sure he loves me, but he loves you more, don't try and tell me he doesn't. And besides all of FairyTail likes you more than me." Seiko huffed. "Now hurry up and hug yourself before you die!"

"I'm not gonna die." Kaia rolled her eyes.

"Your body currently has no soul. It's running out of energy from your soul residue, and once that store runs out your body is going to die. So get back in there before that happens. You can't live without a soul no matter how much stories say you can." Seiko explained. She pointed a finger at the body on the hospital bed. "Now get your ass in there." She demanded. Kaia rolled her eyes and walked over to Seiko. She took her hand.

"At the same time. Then our body will have to accept us." She smiled. Seiko frowned.

"What if that doesn't work."

"It will. I know it." Kaia smiled. "Because I wouldn't feel complete without you in my head. It felt real weird, the silence. Besides my opinion, you're wrong. Lots of people have warmed up to you, and we'd all miss you. So I'm not leaving you behind. Now, let's go." Kaia tugged on her hand and they walked over to their body.

O~O~O~O

Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeep

One long drawn out sound and Natsu had never felt more terrified, not even when he faced Gildarts on Tenrou Island had he been so scared. Doctors had poured into the room the second it lasted too long to be a normal beat of her heart, and now they were working over her, trying to force him from the room. He wasn't budging for anything. He watched from the corner of the room.

"Clear!" The doctor ordered. And everyone else moved away from her body as he brought the defibrillator paddles down onto her chest. There was a single beep and then it drew out again. They started working over her again, pumping her heart and pushing air into her lungs. "Clear!" Once again everyone moved back while the defibrillator came down once again. Another brief beep and then it drew out once again. The doctors looked withdrawn. "Call it." The lead doctor mumbled. Natsu's head snapped up to him at that. He looked up at the rose haired man and Natsu didn't like the look on his face at all. "I'm sorry." He murmured.

"No." Natsu mumbled.

"Time of death, five twenty six P.M." A male nurse said.

"No. No!" Natsu exclaimed.

"Son, I'm sorry-"

"No! Get out!" He snapped and pushed his way over to beside Kaia's bed. Seconds after a nurse stopped the heart monitor, he came up and took her cold hand in his. The doctors filed out quickly, giving him his privacy to come to terms with the loss. "No, no, they're wrong! C'mon, Kaia. Please, snowflake, open your eyes. I won't even care if you hate me as long as you open your eyes." He whispered. She was still. "Please!" He cried and gripped her hand tightly. "Please…" He whispered. He received no response. Devastated, he leaned over and kissed her softly. Her lips felt cooler than usual but they warmed quickly when he pressed his lips against hers. He began to pull back when he heard something that made him freeze. A hiss of air being pulled into lungs.

Thuh-thump.

He jerked back when he felt those cold fingers flex around his. Slowly Kaia's eyes fluttered open and she smiled.

"Hi."

Okay so I decided next chapter will be the last. Sad I know, but I feel like after they resolve things it'll be done, the conflicts will be over. I honestly thought about ending it here, but they were still whispering to me, telling me "No, no not yet. There's just a little more." Of course I'll write an epilogue (I've already got ideas for it) and then I'll mark it complete. After this story is over I'm tossing around an idea I have. I'll give you the jist of it right now, the pairing and a sneak peek, and I'd like you guys to tell me if you'd read it Kay?

Okay so the pair would be Loke and an OC. It would be a drabble-ish fic with no real point but a small conflict. It'd probably be really short lol. Here's the peek. It's slight AU like this one, the grand magic games went smoothly without the dragons and stuff, they got the guild hall back and all that.

Loke poofed into existence beside Lucy with a smile.

"Hello beautiful, you summoned me?" He pushed his shades up with a heart stoppingly coy smile.

"I didn't summon you." Lucy huffed.

"Well Crux said you gave him a search to do. He got caught up with something so he sent me to tell you. Unfortunately he can't disclose anything about the person you asked him to search up." He shrugged. Lucy pouted.

"Dang it. But she's so….. Weird." The blonde grumbled.

"It takes one to know one Lucy." Happy mumbled around his fish. The blonde glared at him.

"I'll skin you if you don't shut up, cat." She warned.

"Loke! Lucy's being mean! You're a big cat, you've got my back right?" Happy asked. Loke simply chuckled.

"Sure, buddy." He nodded. "Anyways, who exactly were you wondering about?" The lion spirit inquired.

"Well FairyTail got a new member two weeks ago and this chick hates me. I have no clue what I did to her, but she's avoiding me, like the second I walk into the guild she leaves!" She huffed. "She's more evasive than you were when you were trying to hide the fact that you were Leo from me." She grumbled.

"Really?" Loke asked. Lucy nodded. "Is she here right now?" He asked, scanning the guild hall.

"Yeah, she over there in the corner." Lucy pointed and Loke followed the direction her finger went, spotting a girl with bright orange hair that had black streaks through it. She had cat ears, much like the Lion spirit, only hers were rounded a bit and they looked kind of like eyes looking at you from the back of her head. They were mainly black and had white dots in the center. She also had a tail!

"What the-"

"She's been telling everyone she's a shifter mage. Kind of like a take-over mage but she can only turn into one thing. She turns into a tiger." Lucy explained. Loke's eyebrows shot up.

"Really?" He chuckled.

"Yeah. Hey! I've got a request for you." She said suddenly, coming up with an idea.

"What is it? Want me to go on a date with you?" He teased.

"No way!" She snapped out of reflex. "You're a ladies man though. Go flirt with her, see if you can figure out what she's hiding." She demanded.

"You want me to whore myself out to her?" He asked.

"Well when you put it that way it sounds bad! I'm not telling you to get into her pants, just flirt and loosen her up a bit and get her to talk! There's no harm in talking." Lucy insisted. Loke sighed. "I'll give you a kiss if you do it!" Lucy offered. Loke smirked.

"Deal!" He sad quickly. Then he headed over to the girl.

So…. Whatcha think? Should I do it after this? If so I'm gonna need a title so I'll have to think of one. (I suck at them so it'll probably be real dumb) Anyways! Review! Tell me whatcha think about the chapter and this new possible story!
