So you guys remember how this whole story actually started? Some parts of this should seem a bit familiar ;)
Regina scooted the potted plant over so she could see out the window. It wasn't hideous, Regina had to admit, though she didn't like Mary Margaret continuously bringing things in. Emma had only been here three days and her mother was in constantly. Regina wouldn't blame Emma for staying unconscious just to avoid conversation.
Though she didn't have that excuse now. Regina was here alone with Emma, having just dropped off Henry at school, where thankfully, Mary Margaret was as well. Regina sat by her bed and took Emma's hand, and like every time she sat with her, placed her free had over her baby.
"Good morning, sweetheart. Another beautiful day. Really going to sleep it away?" She lifted Emma's hand and placed a kiss to her knuckles. "When there are so many other things we could be doing."
Regina sighed, moving her hand to run her fingers through Emma's hair. She pressed her lips to Emma's cheek next, lingering there and breathing her in. She rested her own forehead against Emma's and sighed again.
"I don't know what's going on in that pretty little head of yours, but it must be fascinating to hold your attention for this long." She tried to smile, imagining Emma to simply be having one hell of a dream. She may have truly been amused, had she known what was happening in her mind.
"I guess that just leaves us?" Emma said, standing from the bar and leaning closer to Regina. Regina blinked a few times.
"I beg you pardon, Sheriff."
"There's no one left Regina. Everyone else is taken. By the simple process of elimination, we gotta be together." Emma threw her hands up, her eyebrows lifted and she shrugged. "Sorry." She leaned in a little closer.
"I…we…that's- you…we are not." Regina was shaking her head but Emma just rolled her eyes.
"Come on Regina. You don't wanna be alone forever. I don't wanna be alone forever. Obviously, we gotta pair up."
"You are drunk Miss Swan, and talking more crazier than normal." She said and then squinted her eyes, shaking her head at her own words. She absentmindedly took another sip from her drink.
"Oh it's not even crazy. And don't pretend you don't wanna piece of this." Emma lifted her chin smugly.
"You are much too cocky Miss Swan. Don't think you can just…plow me with drinks and then…get lucky."
"Lucky? Now who's cocky Madam Mayor?" Emma smirked.
"Not cocky at all. I know what I look like. You would be lucky to get this." She smiled before sipping from her drink again.
"I bet. But I've seen the way you look at me. Hey, I look at you the same way. I don't know why the hell we aren't making out right now." Emma slung her arm back around Regina's shoulders, bending her neck to bring her face closer. Regina swallowed, momentarily distracted.
"Miss Swan, this is…highly inappropriate." She tried, still looking up between Emma's intense eyes, only a shred of green visible, and her alcohol moistened lips.
"Ugh, I should have known you were way too uptight and scared. I told you… No. Fun." She spoke slowly and started to pull back. When Emma removed her arm, Regina reached out. She grabbed a fist full off Emma's t-shirt, right in the center of her chest and jerked her forward before slamming her lips onto Emma's.
Emma looked wide eyed briefly before she sighed and her eyes fluttered closed as she moved her own lips against Regina's. The Mayor pulled her closer in and as she leaned back, Emma's hands fell to either side of Regina, gripping the bar behind her. When Emma managed to slip her tongue into Regina's mouth, the battle for dominance began and continued for the entire ten minute make out session.
"You keep underestimating me Miss Swan." As she pulled back, Regina licked her lips slowly and Emma watched them closely, feeling a bit too dizzy to pull back just yet. Slowly a smile pulled at her lips.
"You're right. How about we get out of here and continue our fun?" She asked with the same tone again.
"Lead the way Sheriff."
Emma grinned as she grabbed Regina's hand. She stepped away from the bar and moved towards the door. Once outside, she paused and looked both ways.
"Well?" Regina tilted her head, regarding the unstable sheriff. "I thought we were having fun?"
"We are!" Emma smiled and looked around. She spun when the doors to the bar opened, the music sounding loudly again.
"Hey, where do you two think you're going?" Ruby stepped up to them, pulling Charlie behind her.
"Apparently, we're having some sort of fun." Regina said sarcastically.
"Well can we join?" Ruby was bouncing on her heels in excitement.
"No."
"Regina." Emma scolded. "Of course you can." Emma turned and smiled excitedly.
"We can go back to the diner. We'll be all alone and I have the key to the liquor." Ruby rose her eyebrows and now Regina was interested. She glanced between Emma and Ruby again before slowly nodding.
"Alright, let's go." She said with a wave of her hand.
"Yay!"
"Look at you, making friends." Emma pulled Regina into her side and the brunette attempted a glare, though she didn't pull away. She even spared a small smile.
"I am a very appealing person. I don't have to make friends." She said seriously.
"Well, you are definitely appealing." Emma grinned as she leaned in and placed a kiss on Regina's cheek. Still, the brunette didn't pull away.
"Alright, alright you two, chill out." Ruby shoved them apart as she walked between them and up towards the diner across the street. The second she had passed though, Emma moved back in and slung her arm around Regina's shoulders.
They all followed Ruby inside and sat at the counter while she turned on some music. Ruby started swaying her hips as she walked and the movement started distracting a few others.
Charlie was of course staring, but it appeared he was not alone. Regina narrowed her eyes on Emma who had let her glances go on a little too long. When Ruby finally made it behind the counter and started getting out drinks, Regina scooted a little closer to Emma. The second her hand grazed Emma's cheek, the blonde turned towards her. The widening of her eyes suggested that she was not prepared when Regina slid her hand to the back of her neck and pulled her forward. They closed when Regina's lips covered hers.
Charlie cleared his throat when his attention was diverted again to the display they were making. Regina kept her hand on Emma's neck as she deepened the kiss and tightened the hold slightly when Emma let out a soft moan. Regina heard Charlie clear his throat again and she finally broke the kiss. She smirked when she saw Emma's eyes remained closed now. They definitely weren't checking out anyone anymore.
It wasn't until Ruby had drinks out for everyone that Emma managed to come back down to Earth. Within minutes, everyone was in even higher spirits.
"So…a knight, huh?" Emma looked over to the tall man throwing back a shot. He spun in his stool to face her.
"Yes, you like that, eh?" He lifted his chin but both Emma and Regina gave looks that were clearly unimpressed.
"I was just asking. You're not the only knight." Emma shrugged and turned more towards Regina again. She reached for one of the shots and downed it.
"Ah yes, the glorified white knight. I'd like to see you with a sword."
"Not if you want to keep your hand." Regina smirked.
"Come on Charlie. Come help me find some more tequila, we're almost out." Ruby winked before sauntering around the corner. "In the back." She lowered her voice a bit and turned away. Charlie promptly forgot the other two and was to Ruby in an instant.
"I'd presume they're doing more than just retrieving tequila." Regina lifted an eyebrow before sipping casually.
"Yeah, they're probably having fun. Like we could be having fun." Emma scooted closer, giving a mischievous smile to Regina.
"I still say you cannot plow me with drinks and get what you want."
"I am not plowing you with drinks. You've been helping yourself just fine on your own. In fact, you poured my last glass." Emma tilted her head and came even closer. "Why Madam Mayor, are you trying to get lucky?" She brought her face only inches from Regina's and let her eyes linger on the soft lips in front of her. Regina cleared her throat and glanced down.
"I am not doing anything." She defended, though she was leaning in herself now.
"That's not what it seemed like a few minutes ago. I thought I was gonna get lucky right on this counter." She grinned and Regina rolled her eyes.
"As if." She scoffed. Emma just kept her eyes on Regina's lips.
"Whatever you say." She breathed before closing the distance again.
She pressed her lips to Regina's, her hand lifting to her cheek. She knew this haze wasn't just the alcohol. There was something about Regina. Her warm lips. Her tongue currently sliding along Emma's. Just her taste in general. The intoxication created from this woman far outweighed anything made from those shots.
Regina pulled back and Emma saw she seemed a bit effected as well. But then, that could be the alcohol.
"See, that was fun." Emma grinned and Regina gave her a small smile before to Emma's surprise, brought her tongue out and slowly, painfully slowly, slid it along the back of her hand. She kept her eyes on Emma as she dabbed some salt there and grabbed one of the pieces of lime Ruby had laid out. The other hand reached for another shot.
Emma watched with rapt attention as Regina trailed her tongue over her hand. She threw back the shot and bit into the lime before Emma had even registered the move. When her lips wrapped around the piece, Emma's eyes felt heavy, though she still couldn't look away.
"I told you Miss Swan, I can be fun." Regina licked her lips as she pulled back, setting the shot glass and lime onto the table next to them.
"Damn. That was hot." Emma's eyes were on Regina's mouth, where they had stayed throughout her entire display. "Let me taste." She smiled wickedly as she leaned forward. Regina returned the look and closed the distance again, attaching their lips hungrily.
Emma didn't waste a second, slipping her tongue through moist lips and stroking against Regina's once again. She couldn't get enough. The mayor snaked a hand around Emma to grasp onto the back of her neck again and pull her closer. Emma moved to latch onto Regina's bottom lip, sucking the remaining juice off and humming in satisfaction. She pulled back just slightly and both sets of eyes were slow to open.
Emma spotted a small drop of liquid on the side of Regina's jaw. She lifted a hand to cup the brunette's chin and turned her slightly. She leaned in and slipped the tip of her tongue out to flick the juice into her mouth. She knew she had gotten it successfully, but let her tongue glide along the surface of her jaw, moving all the way to her neck and down the side. Regina's eyes fluttered and she barely managed to suppress a moan of approval. Emma stopped with an open mouthed kiss where she could feel the blood pumping through her vein.
"Damn." Emma sighed as she pulled back again.
"You said that dear." Regina gave a lazy grin, trying to control her uneven breathing.
"Yeah well…that's all I got Madam Mayor." She shrugged. "I don't know why we haven't done this before."
"Because we hate each other." Regina said flatly.
"No. I don't hate you." Emma walked around the counter, searching out the next thing to pour.
"You don't?" Regina turned to face her.
"Of course not. I've never hated you." She said it like it was the most obvious thing in the world.
"Then what do you call the constant boiling emotions between us since you drove in my town?"
"Repressed sexual tension." Emma grinned and poured a drink for them both.
"You are very drunk, Swan." Regina shook her head before tilting it back as she drank from her new glass. Emma smiled again.
"Unlike you of course."
"Of course." Regina agreed immediately. Emma crossed her arms as Regina sloppily lifted her glass again.
"How's the rum, Regina?" She started laughing as Regina pulled her glass back and eyed the substance. She immediately made a face of disgust.
"Ugh, it's…it's just horrible." She wasn't very convincing and Emma just nodded her head.
"Mhmm. Drunk." She smiled and took Regina's glass, finishing it off for herself.
"Perhaps I have had enough." She leaned back slightly from the counter and Emma's eyes widened.
"What? No!" Emma came back around and stood in front of her. She paused as she looked around before smiling wide. "Dance with me." She put her hands out and looked expectantly. Regina looked at Emma's hands before slowly moving up to her face.
"I do not dance." She crossed her arms.
"You just haven't had the right partner. Come on." She pulled at Regina's crossed arms until they broke and she took her hands.
"I don't even know the music." She grumbled as Emma pulled them to the center.
"Who cares. Here." She placed one of Regina's hands on her shoulder and put hers on Regina's waist. Brown eyes, though slightly glazed over, snapped up and Regina retracted her hand.
"Oh no." She saw Emma's confusion, but ignored it. She reached for Emma's waist and pulled her forward.
"Are you kidding me?" Emma's eyes rolled in realization.
"I lead." She lifted a challenging eyebrow as she adjusted her hands and pulled her closer again.
"Such a control freak." She muttered, but put her arm around Regina's shoulders and let Regina hold her other hand. Somehow, any irritation she had dissipated the first second they swayed together.
It was sloppy. Very sloppy. But of course neither realized it. Their bodies laid flush against one another and as Regina stepped to the side, Emma followed and leaned into her. They stumbled a bit in the motion but smiles formed on their faces and they kept moving.
"Your so soft, Regina. So soft and warm." Emma sighed. Regina shook her head slightly, but kept her smile.
"No more rum for you." She said.
"We should do this more often."
"Drink?"
"Dance!" Emma said as she tried to spin them around. They lost balance though, and fell back into one of the tables.
"This is why you let me lead." She dropped down into a chair and Emma took the one next to her. "And we're only dancing because you're drinking too much."
"Cause I'm drinking too much? Right. But isn't it nice? Isn't this fun?" Emma leaned her head on her hand and studied Regina.
"It isn't…unbearable." She conceded with a lazy wave of her hand.
"Oh, high praise from her majesty."
"I like it when you call me majesty." Regina leaned a little closer and Emma smiled.
"What else do you like, your majesty?" She lowered her voice and leaned in slowly until her lips grazed Regina's again. Regina took a deep breath in, but then pulled back. Emma frowned. "What's wrong?"
"I should go." She moved as if to stand but Emma put a hand on her thigh.
"Why?" She bent her neck but Regina wouldn't meet her eyes.
"You're drunk." She repeated.
"Duh. So?"
"This isn't us."
"Now you're the one talking all crazy. Let's dance again." She tried to take Regina's hand, but it was retracted before she could.
"Miss Swan, we are both talking crazy. We need to call it a night before we start acting crazy...er." She added as an afterthought.
"Oh, like making out with a sexy sheriff?" Emma nodded in understanding.
"Now who's being cocky again?"
"Come on, Regina, we've been over this. I know you want a piece of this." Emma tilted her head with a smile, but Regina still looked like she was ready to leave. "I thought we also went over how neither one of us want to be alone." She said and Regina sighed as she shook her head. She lifted a hand to Emma's chest.
"Emma…Emma." She kept shaking her head like she was trying to explain something extremely complex. "I am the villain."
"The hot villain." Emma clarified.
"True." Regina nodded. "But even the hot villain doesn't get the happy endings."
"What?" Now Emma was shaking her head. "Regina, you need to drink your way back to happy. Pronto." She got up...after two attempts, and made her way back to the counter.
"You really think you want to be not alone with me?" Regina paused and tried to sort out her words. She frowned but just shook it off.
"Yes Regina, I want to be not alone with you. I also want to dance with you, we should do more dancing." She nodded and dropped a straw into the drink. "Try this." She smiled as she slid the glass to Regina. Regina's eyes narrowed on the glass.
"What is it?"
"I don't know." She shook her head. "But it looks pretty, right?"
"Wow." Regina said after taking a small sip. "It's uh…very strong, dear. But do not change the subject. I cannot be not alone."
"Ugh, Regina." Emma came up next to her and took a sip from the drink, eyes widening at the strength. "If I can not be alone, then so can you."
"Emma-"
"Please Regina. It'll get my parents off my back." She rested her head on Regina's shoulder and tilted her face to give the brunette her best puppy dog eyes. Regina got distracted by the look. She put her hand on Emma's back and patted.
"Your parents hate me, dear. Being with me won't get them off your back." She pointed out as she sipped at her drink.
"Maybe it will." She started in an almost childlike voice. "They want me to have my fairytale happy ending. You can be my happy ending." She finished simply.
"This is not what they meant, dear." Regina kept patting at her back and sipping at her drink. Her own head lolled a bit as well.
"Well I don't get them." She said indignantly.
"You're not alone it that, dear. Trust me."
"But they don't get me either and they're not even trying anymore." She frowned and looked down at the floor. Regina bent her neck to see her.
"What are you saying?" She asked gently. Emma didn't look up.
"I think they…I think they just forget like…like who I am." Emma punctuated her words with her hand pressing against her chest. Regina looked sympathetically as she lifted her arm sluggishly onto Emma's shoulders.
"What do you mean, my dear?" She rubbed soothingly and Emma leaned in closer to her.
"They…they don't get me! They expect me to be like them! And, and they like think they know me! They don't, Regina!" Emma pleaded, getting a little worked up now.
"I know darling. I know, I know." Regina pulled Emma against her as her lips clumsily found the straw again. Her head lolled completely onto Emma's as she took a long sip.
"You get me Regina. You always got me." Emma reached up to Regina's drink, pulling it down and trying to capture the straw into her own mouth now.
"You always got me too." Regina spoke softer, pulling the straw from Emma as the slurping sound signaled the blonde had finished the drink. Emma pulled back enough to meet her eyes.
"We're not so different you and me." Emma kept Regina's gaze as the brunette studied her.
"You are the savior. I am the Evil Queen. Or didn't your parents tell you? Maybe you do need to start listening to them." She frowned and Emma squinted as she eyed the older woman curiously.
"You are exactly right Regina. We are just alike and opposites at the same time. The perfect match."
"Oh my dear, you do not want to be my match. I don't have a good track record." Her voice sounded sad and she looked down, but Emma lifted a hand to her cheek.
"I'm really sorry." She didn't clarify any further but Regina seemed to understand and nodded. "You know you can be with someone again though, right?"
"How many times do I have to tell you, dear. I don't get a happy ending. No happiness for the Evil Queen. Villains don't get happy, Emma. No happy for me-"
"Wanna bet?" Emma stopped Regina's rambling and the brunette paused to tilt her head.
"What?" She asked and Emma stood up and faced her. She reached for Regina's hands and held them in her own.
"I bet I can give you a happy ending." She said easily while Regina looked at her incredulously.
"And how exactly am I to get this happy ending, hmm?" Her eyes were amused but still expectant. They widened when Emma dropped down in front of her.
"Marry me." She said simply. Regina laughed and shook her head.
"Emma, get up."
"Say you'll marry me." She leaned forward and rested her chin on Regina's knee. Regina just rolled her eyes.
"Emma, this is ridiculous-"
"Marry me." Emma repeated, grinning as she looked up and batted her eyelashes at Regina.
"Emma-"
"Regina." As she stood up, she tilted her head the other way, still grinning like an idiot.
"I may have had a little more than a glass of cider, but there is no way-"
"I dare you." She cut her off again. Regina's jaw fell open slightly for a moment before answering.
"You what?"
"I dare you. I dare you to marry me. To be happy with me." She stood directly in front of her, still holding her hands. Regina shook her head like she was having a very hard time clearing it.
"You must be high as well. You cannot dare me to-"
"I Emma Swan, dare you, Regina Mills, to be my wife." Emma leaned in and placed a soft, lingering kiss on Regina's cheek. "You could be happy." She whispered into her ear. Regina turned her face slightly and let it rest against Emma's.
"Whoa, what's going on out here?" Ruby walked in from the back, trying to casually adjust her miss-buttoned shirt. She gave up after a few seconds and studied the other two. Regina looked at Emma and then back at Ruby.
"We are getting married."
Emma opened her eyes slowly. Her head felt foggy and her vision took a moment to clear. The memories were surprisingly fresh in her mind and she smiled slightly despite her setting. She blinked a couple more times and finally glanced around the room. The smile on her face only widened when she saw Regina standing by the window. She could tell the woman was exhausted and worried, but she hoped to remedy that soon.
"Regina." She called and though her voice was a bit thick, it was obviously heard easily because Regina whipped around at nearly inhuman speed.
"Emma?!" She was at her side in an instant. "Emma, are you alright?" She looked all over her worryingly, her hands all over Emma, but Emma was just smiling softly.
"Regina-"
"You've been out for three days straight. You just collapsed. You've been out this entire time-"
"Regina-"
"Do you have any idea how frightened I was when you fell? Why do you keep scaring me like this? I thought we had an understanding. You are my wife. You can't keep doing things like this-"
"Regina-"
"I didn't know if you would wake up-"
"Regina-"
"And of course the doctor has no real idea why it happened. I swear I need to reevaluate some of my choices. I don't know if I want that man taking care of you. And the baby, he just knows less than nothing-"
"Regina." She laughed a little, still trying to get her attention. Regina paused and took a breath. She smiled apologetically.
"Yes, yes, I'm sorry. What is it, darling?" Regina shook her head, her own feelings of relief overwhelming her. Emma gave an extra second of smiling warmly before speaking again.
"Will you marry me?"
"Wh…What?" Regina's confusion was comical to Emma, who let out another small laugh. She continued smiling at Regina, her eyes filled with the love she had for this woman.
It was startling. Considering how their union began, it was actually shocking. Emma didn't think she even could love someone like she loved Regina. People generally say blame it on the alcohol. But Emma was thanking it. Thanking the rum and tequila and whatever else they had consumed that gave them the courage to make such a move that night.
"Will you marry me?" She asked again, lifting a hand to Regina's cheek. "Again." She grinned. Regina covered Emma's hand with her own as she studied Emma's face. That kind and loving, yet determined and confident expression waiting for her answer. She turned her face and kissed Emma's palm, before meeting Emma's hopeful eyes.
"Yes."
