Chapter 28
Outrage
This chapter is just something quick and short that I wrote up a couple of days ago to hold you over until I stop fighting with the chapter that I've been working on. It's not cooperating. Frankenstein has yet to fight Agvain, so the contract chapter isn't going to be up right away, even though I'm working on it. I don't feel that I've got enough background on the relationship yet, but that is next on the agenda...after some light fun with the Old Lord. Heh. Soon after that, we'll have the fight with Agvain.
I want to thank everyone for sticking with me and for your encouraging reviews. That really helps when I'm constantly dealing with health issues. Every time I think I'm getting better, things get worse. One step forward, two steps back. Your reviews make it bearable. I've cut back my driving to almost zero and that seems to have helped with brain function. There are two other chapters near completion. It's just a matter of getting them to a point that I feel they are good enough for you. Again, thank you so much for your patience.
Love you all, Snow
'First the lord, then clan leaders and spiders!'
In the short walk to the kitchen, Frankenstein's anger boiled over again. Not at Sir Raizel. Of course not. Still, he wanted to destroy something! Anything!
'Why am I so angry? Yes, a lot happened, but that isn't enough. Backtrack. Was it the clan leaders? Hm, no. Yes, maybe. They have the nerve to bother master now when they left him all alone for untold centuries, maybe longer. He wanted to be alone, but that's still no excuse! At least the lord and his closest attendants tried to get him out of the house, according to what that pompous idiot said today. But the others? They're afraid of my master.'
'He's only had bugs and animals for friends.' The corner of Frankenstein's lips turned down. The thought made his chest ache. 'No wonder he's so attached to spiders.'
The thought tempered his anger, but it was still there. He wanted to beat the nobles senseless for leaving his master alone for so long. They might be a different breed of creature, but even animals needed company every once in awhile. Even different species were known to pair up for company and survival when they were alone.
Damn, but he needed to destroy something! Frankenstein dropped the iron dipper before he could throw it through a wall. Dinner was started. It wouldn't take as long to bake up the treats and heat the water. He marched down to the cold cellar and grabbed a ball of dough. Today he would add extra sugar and extra preserves to the treats. There would also be multiple selections.
'Alone for centuries. I've been running off whenever I liked just to work on experiments or to spar with Ragar and Gejutel. I've never once thought that master might be suffering, even after he said that he'd missed me. I thought...I don't know that I thought anything about it. He's so closed off that I...took his loneliness as a given, something I couldn't really do anything about. I can't be there every minute and he sometimes seems exasperated with my presence. He likes his peace and solitude. No one should be left alone for so long, though.'
Frankenstein frowned as he gently pulled the dough and pressed pieces into shape. 'I've already cut back on my trips out. Can I really afford to cut back more?' He stared at his lard-covered fingers and the bits of dough stuck in his fingernails. 'If I don't get stronger, dark spear could eat me one day. I need the experiments so that I can be stronger when it tries. Ergh! How can I take care of master and myself?!'
This conundrum only brought Frankenstein back to wishing for the opportunity to beat the holy shit out of some asshole nobles!
