Chapter 28
Edward's POV
Bella looks incredible. She has always looked great but today, she's even more beautiful. It seems that taking pictures it's a parent's duty. I thought my mom had taken hundreds of pictures, but Bella's parents seem to be taken thousands. Finally, we are allowed to go to the limo. Bella sits next to me, we're facing Emmett and Rosalie. I know neither of the girls was thrilled to share the limo, but they are being polite.
I hold Bella's hand and rub each one of her fingers, they're so delicate and soft. She smiles awkwardly; I look at my brother and understand Bella's embarrassment, Emmett is devouring Rosalie. They're not afraid of public displays of affection. I get closer to her ear and whisper softly "We're close to school, hang in there for a few more minutes." She nods and turns to see the sparkling beverage in a cooler along with some goblets.
"I forgot that came with the limo." I lean forward and grab two goblets, Bella holds them while I pour the drink.
"Are we allowed to drink that? I mean I don't want Mr. Greene kicking us out of the ball because of the smell of alcohol."
"Oh. Not a problem. My mom made sure of that, this is a non-alcoholic beverage." I hand Bella a glass and I get mine. We toast and drink it. It's not as good as the one my dad gave us at home, but it's not bad either. Bella seems to like it.
"Wow. That was delicious. I think you spilled something, let me take it off." She passes her thumb on my lip, then she leans forward and gives me a peck on the lips. I return it and then we are lost on each other, I wrap and arm around her waist and she wraps an arm around me. I can taste the fruity drink while we kiss. I'm starting to question what I told Bella, I'm not sure if it was really non-alcoholic because I'm starting to hear giggles. Now the giggles became laughter. Bella and I stop kissing at the same time, I turn around and see Emmett and Rosalie laughing so hard.
"I'm sorry, did we interrupt you little brother?" Says Emmett not regretful at all. I feel my blood boiling against my cheeks, if only I could smack his mocking smirk…
"No. I am sorry, I didn't know you were the only ones that were allowed kissing inside the limo." I didn't expect Bella's reply, but surely Emmett didn't expect it either.
Luckily for all of us the driver announced we had arrived. Emmett opened the left door for Rosalie and I did the same for Bella in the opposite door.
I offer Bella my arm for support, we walk a little before getting our prom picture, there's a golden arch illuminated by tiny Christmas lights, we pose for our picture and then continue to the venue. The prom committee has done an amazing job converting the gym into a lavish hall.
We walk toward the table containing our names, I pull a chair for Bella and then I sit next to her. We stare at each other, it feels weird to be the only ones sitting while the others are dancing. I had thought about getting some drinks, but I remembered what Bella told me about hating beverages being served in advance, so instead of offering a drink I ask her if she wants to dance. I know she feels uncomfortable dancing around others, but she's a marvelous dancer and I don't want her to miss the full prom experience. Surprisingly, she agrees and I proceed to pull the chair for her.
We dance two songs, Bella smiles and seems relieved to hear Mr. Greene announcing that the buffet is open and that we should make a line before getting our food. We do as we are told. I hand Bella a plate and let her pass before me.
Bella's POV
Edward's been a gentleman the entire night and I like it. I'm not use to fancy parties, in fact, I'm not use to parties at all. This has to be one of the best nights in my life. For the first time, I feel at ease with my surroundings and I'm letting myself go a little. I even danced with Edward in public. I have never danced in front of another human being, just with Edward.
I know many of my classmates are going to some parties after prom and some of them may be involved in other types of activities. I'm glad Edward and I are on the same page about sex. I would be dying right now if we had other plans. I know Angela is nervous of being with Eric for the first time, at least I know they are taking precautions.
"What are you thinking about?" Edward takes me out of my reverie, I can't help but giggle a little just of thinking about it.
"Nothing, really. I mean, I'm just thankful that you and I have similar ideals." I move my head towards Angela and Eric. They both seem awkward and out of place.
"Oh. I see. Can you imagine all the time it would have taken me to book a hotel room just for some hours?" He shakes his head. "I rather spend that time looking for the perfect gift for you." In that moment, Edward takes out his cell phone and searches for a picture, then he shows it to me.
I can't make my mind on what's on the picture, it looks like a jewelry box, but there's something interesting about it.
"It's gorgeous, but I'm not sure what it is."
"It's a singing bird box. Don't you like it?"
Edward must have confused my wondering with a scorn, because I really think it's beautiful.
"I do. I do like it a lot." He looks relieved with my answer.
"Then you'll like it even more when you hear it."
"Edward, you shouldn't have…" I'm interrupted by Mr. Greene's voice over the microphone, he's announcing the Queen and the King of the Prom.
We walk towards the stage as everyone else is doing. This year the competition was tough, Jessica and Rosalie are both popular and are equally annoying. Emmett and Mike are the most popular guys at school, but I think Emmett will get the crown.
"After checking each ballot, I'm proud to announce our Queen and the King of the Prom. Ms. Rosalie Hale and Mr. Emmett Cullen!"
Rosalie is all smiles, she and Emmett move forward and are crowned, then they proceed to the dance floor for their official dance. The rest of the student body follows and encircled them in the middle of the dance floor. Emmett is being funny and that obviously upsets Rosalie, she wants everything to be perfect, but Emmett is who he is, funny and carefree. It's hard to believe Emmett and Edward are related, they are so different but somehow they complement each other. I know Edward would do anything for his big brother and Emmett would do anything for his younger brother. I look up at Edward and I can tell he's proud of his brother. I rest my head against his shoulder and he leans his head on top of my hair.
I wonder when I should give him the surprise I got for him, I wasn't expecting him to give me something, but I should have known better. The singing bird box is really amazing and beautiful; I bet it costs a lot of money. I have told Edward that I don't need gifts from him, that the time we spend together is more than enough, but he insists on giving me things, he says money is not a problem, but for me it is. I know that life is tough and that we must work to get what we want and that money doesn't buy happiness. My gifts to Edward are not that expensive, sure I spend more on him than what I spend on my own. This time, the gift I got for him is a bit more expensive than the others, but it's not by far as expensive as the ones Edward has given me. It was bigger than my purse, so I had to left it in my room, I guess I could give it to him when we get to my house. I got a vinyl containing some of the best classical music in piano. I love how it sounds, I hope he has a vinyl player, I didn't think about it when I bought it.
"What is it? You've been daydreaming for a long time."
"Oh. I'm sorry. I was just thinking about how happy they are. I mean, Emmett and Rosalie."
"Yes, they're really happy. Do you want to go and congratulate them?" Nope. Not really. I'm really happy for them, but I know Rosalie will take advantage of it and make me feel bad.
"I don't want to interrupt them, we can talk to them on our way back."
"About that, are you ready to go? I mean, Emmett and Rosalie have other plans, the limo will pick them up later. If you want to we can go now and we could go somewhere else and perhaps buy some ice cream.
Mmm. Ice cream.
"Sure. That sounds great."
A/N: Thank you for your reviews and your favs and follows, I appreciate each one of them. I want to apologize with everyone for not updating the story soon, but I have been busy with many activities and I have been sick too :(
I don't own the song in this chapter. Song: "Les Mistrals Gagnant" sang by: Renaud. Lyrics by: Renaud Séchan and Jean-Philippe Goude. There's another version of the song, it's sung by Cœur De Pirate. Personally, I like both versions. What I like the most about the song is the piano, I love the melody. I can picture Edward playing that song for Bella. *swoons*
Translation for the French lyrics: To sit on a bench, five minutes with you/ And look at people pass by endlessly/ Talk about old time that's maybe not so far/ While squeezing your small fingers in my hand… To walk in the rain five minutes with you/ To watch life as it goes by/ To tell you about earth as my eyes devour you/ To talk about your mother a little… And understand your laughter as I understand the sea.
