Here's another long chapter...
Nothing crazy happening in this one, more character and plot development. Our villains will be showing up again soon.
Thanks for reading and thank you to Andristasia Grey-Darcy for your review, you're very sweet!
"Oh my God, how did he know?" Jane asked as she zipped Darcy's electric blue dress up and pulled her hair free from the back. "You look hot by the way."
Darcy grinned. "Thanks darling, so do you," she said. "He said he could tell by how flushed my face was and Loki looked so smug that he figured something like that must have happened."
"Was he mad?"
"Oh yeah, he was mad," Darcy said. "But he was more concerned about my safety. He thought Loki was taking advantage of the situation and he's not to be trusted and he might try to take me away again and he can't imagine why Fury is letting Loki help the Avengers and blah, blah, blah…"
"But he wasn't pissed at you, that's good."
"No he was mad at me too," Darcy said. "He couldn't understand why I'd be attracted to Loki and want to kiss him. I tried to explain it to him, but ended up being embarrassed and getting pissed myself, so he just let it go for now. We just sort of got back together so I guess he wants to focus on that right now."
"You never broke up," Jane reminded her. "Because you were too chicken to talk to him in the first place, so you two are just reunited, not just getting back together. There's a difference."
"Whatever," Darcy said, looking at herself in the mirror. She loved the dress Pepper had picked out for her. She loved how the blue made her skin look even milkier smooth and her dark hair hung around her shoulders in fat curls. The blue from the dress made the blue in her eyes more pronounced. "I do look good," she said with a giggle. She twirled around and watched the dress flare out dramatically and come to rest just below her knees when she stopped moving. "Not crazy about the spaghetti straps, but I do love this dress."
"It's perfect for your skin and hair," Jane said. "Pepper has excellent taste. I'm going to let her pick out all of my clothes."
"Yeah, she missed her calling. Instead of running my dad's company, she should've been a personal shopper. Love the purple number she picked for you."
"Thor picked the color, but she picked the dress," Jane said. "I'm glad this girl's night turned into just a nice night out the town for dancing."
"Hey it's still a girl's night," Darcy said. "Just because Bruce is coming with Natasha and Thor is coming with you doesn't make it not a girl's night. It's just a girls' night with boys."
"Don't forget your dad and Pepper are tagging along. I noticed how Tony had no interest in going until you told him that you were still with Steve." Jane said, sitting down on the bed so that she could slide on the velvet purple pumps that Pepper had gotten to match her dress. "Steve is still coming right?"
Darcy nodded as she applied her pink frosted lip stick. "Yep and so is Clint," she said. "That was my idea. I need to talk to him. I miss him."
"Oh shit," Jane said standing too quickly and losing her balance with her shoes and plopping back down on the bed. "What about Loki? We can't leave him here all alone."
"Why not? He's a big boy, he can amuse himself."
"I guess, but do you think it's wrong not to include him?" Jane asked. "I don't want him to feel bad."
Darcy snorted with laughter. "I doubt he'd give a shit," she said. "But if you're okay with him coming, let's invite him. I didn't in the first place because I thought you hate him."
"He's growing on me," Jane said, attempting to stand again. She smiled upon her success.
"I'm glad he's growing on you. And don't look too cocky. You may have stood, but now you have to walk in those monsters."
"Your shoes are bigger monsters than mine," Jane said looking at the electric blue and silver chuck heals that matched Darcy's dress.
"Yes but I'm used to shoes like these," Darcy said touching up her mascara. "Remember I wore shoes like this last Halloween when I went as a stripper to my dad's office party."
Darcy finished her look with a pair of sterling silver loop earrings that he dad had bought her for her birthday. She sat down on the bed, slid the shoes on, and stood up, walking quickly to the door, and looking back at Jane with a grin. "See, no problem. I can wear hooker shoes with the best of them. You, however, had better get Thor to carry you down the stairs."
Jane hit the door with the pillow instead of Darcy as she Darcy quickly left the room.
Darcy walked down the hallway and stopped in front of the last door on the right. She knocked softly and the door swung open. Loki stood there with his shirt off and a towel in his hand, as he had been drying his hair. Darcy forced her eyes to stay on his face and she smiled…a slightly too wide smile.
Loki's eyes racked over her in obvious appreciation. His smirk appeared on his lips and he moved to the side, motioning for her to come inside. She did and jumped when he closed the door behind her. She whirled around and was met with him blocking her from the door, his arms crossed over his chest, and a look of amusement on his face.
"Are you nervous Darcy," he asked. "You've spent much time in my bedroom before, I'm sure you remember."
"That was on Asgard and I was sick and it took your mom for-freaking-ever to get me my own room, so wipe that smug grin off your face ass hat," she managed to spat in one breath.
"Fair enough," he said taking a step closer. "Do what do I owe this unexpected pleasure of having you in my room once again? And I must say you look absolutely ravishing this evening, all though I would prefer a green dress as opposed to a blue dress."
"I'm here to invite you to come out with all of us tonight."
"How very kind of you to offer," he said still smirking. "Will the boy be accompanying you this evening?"
She sighed. "Yes STEVE will be accompanying me this evening," she said. "Why? Does that bother you? Afraid his dance moves would outshine yours?"
Loki scowled. "I doubt that fool know how to dance," he said. "I however, am an excellent dancer."
"Prove it," she said. "Quit sulking and come out with us."
"Why? Are you offering to be my dance partner? Do you think your Captain would mind if I held you close?"
Darcy felt her cheeks heat at his words, but she stood her ground. "Come on Loki," she said. "This will be good for you. You need to socialize with the Avengers since you're working with them now. If you come out with us, they'll see you're not all bad. Let em see the softer side of Loki."
His arms tightened across his chest. "I do not have a soft side, mortal."
"Oh, so now I'm mortal instead of Darcy," she said laughing. "You didn't seem so impersonal when you had your tongue down my throat…" she stopped abruptly as her eyes widened. "I have no idea why I said that. Anyways, the invitation stands. I'm just going to go now…far away…. very far away…" She took a step forward, but he didn't move. "I can't really go far away if you don't move so how about you scooch on over."
"Perhaps I want to put my tongue back down your throat," he said watching her with dark eyes.
"Don't say that," she said in a small voice. "I have to go, everyone is waiting."
Loki placed his finger under her chin and forced her to look up. "I should think it was obvious to you that I don't care about everyone else."
"Loki, I'm with Steve and you…you pulled away first anyways, so stop playing games and let me go."
"I'm not playing games, Darcy, I have never been more serious in my life. I pulled away because you needed me too. You weren't ready for what I wanted…what I still want."
"You encouraged me to talk to Steve," she said taking hold of his hand and pushing it away. He reached out and grabbed her wrist, pulling her flush against him.
"Yes I encouraged it," he said angrily. "Because I am struggling to give you what you need instead of what I want. You needed to talk to him. You had unfinished business. I didn't want you to do something with me that you would regret later simply because you wanted to use me to drown your confusion and sorrow."
"You're right," she said. "I'm sorry. I guess I was using you in a way." She tried to pull her wrist away but he wouldn't let her. "Loki let me go, Steve will be here soon, if he's not already."
"Do you think I care about that self-righteous child? I may have encouraged you to speak with him, inadvertently pushing back into his arms, which was not my intention, but I have no intention of just scurrying away and letting him win."
"What do you mean letting him win?" She asked warily.
"I have told you how I feel about you," he said. "I know that you are attracted to me and that you feel something. It may not be as strong as what you feel for the boy, but you do feel something for me. Just because I let you go to him does not mean that I am letting go of you. Let me be perfectly clear, I have no intention of playing fair. I will fight him for your affections, so prepare yourself for my attack."
His words both frightened and excited her. She could feel the heat coming from his body and felt the warmth beginning to stir in her stomach. Her breath hitched when she looked into his face and saw his smoldering eyes. Her entire body flushed and she couldn't hide it from him due to her dress. She saw his triumphant smile. He bent his head, bringing his face close to her neck and inhaling deeply. He blew out slowly, his warm breath caressing her cheek. "I believe I will take you up on your offer dearest Darcy and accompany you all on your evening out," he said and brushed his lips across her lips before pulling back.
Her heart was beating so hard in her chest, she felt sure he could probably hear it. He flashed at smile at her. "Yes I hear the beating of your heart as I smell the heat of your body. Tell me Darcy, has he ever made you feel this way?"
She stared at him with wide eyes, unable to speak. He chuckled softly and released her wrist only to grasp her hand. He pulled her forward, leading her to the door. He opened it, placing his hands on her shoulders and walking her into the hall. "Allow me a few moments to ready myself and I'll be down," he said. He lifted her hair away from her neck and kissed the back of her neck, just below her hair line. She shivered and he smiled against her skin. "Better get moving, love, wouldn't want to keep your young man waiting."
She didn't move until she heard his door close. "Darcy?" Jane called from down the hall. "Are you alright?" She asked coming up to Darcy. "Are you okay or…why are so flushed? Your eyes are glassy, have you already had a drink and Oh. My. God. He did it again didn't he? He kissed you."
"Not exactly," Darcy said in a shaky voice. "Um…I think I need some water or something…"
"You need something alright. You can't go down stairs looking like this, everyone will think…well never mind what they'll think. Come on." Jane took her hand and pulled her back down the hallway and into the safety of her own room. "I'm going to get you a glass of ice water, you sit here and try to calm down and un pink yourself."
Darcy didn't say anything as Jane left the room. She returned shortly with a cold wash cloth and a glass of ice water. "Here, drink this and cool your hormones. Steve is already down stairs and so is everyone else."
"Is Loki?" Darcy asked before taking a drink.
Jane placed the cold rag on Darcy's neck. "Yes he's already down there." Jane rubbed the cloth gently over Darcy's chest and cheeks. "I'm trying not to mess up your makeup."
Darcy downed the cold water and Jane took the glass in the bathroom and filled it from the faucet. "Here, drink some more, it's helping. You're not as pink. Good Lord, what did he say to you?"
"You don't want to know."
"I probably don't," Jane agreed. She placed the cloth on the back of Darcy's neck as she finished the water. "That's much better. Okay, I think you're presentable now." Jane pulled Darcy to her feet and tossed the wash cloth into the bathroom. "Let's go."
She and Darcy started to walk when Jane stopped abruptly causing Darcy to slam into her back. "Ow, what the hell?" Darcy snapped.
"No, I do want to know what he said, tell me."
"He said that he wasn't going to fight fair and that I should prepare for his attack."
Jane's eyed widened in alarm. "Oh my God, I have to tell Thor."
"Don't you dare," Darcy hissed, grabbing Jane's wrist in a vice grip. "It's embarrassing enough that all Loki has to do is speak to me and I get all moist and…"
"Wow, did you just say moist?"
"Shut up and listen," Darcy said. "He's not threatening physical danger. He meant that he was going to try and win me away from Steve, that's all."
"Well okay," Jane said. "But you have to get your hormones under control. Loki is not good for you…he's dangerous. I don't care that he's supposedly helping us now. Steve is good for you. He's a good guy, with a good heart, and he'd never hurt you. Not to mention he's beautiful, so if you want to get moist, get moist for him." Jane pulled Darcy into the hall and the two of them made their way down stairs.
Upon seeing his one and only child looking absolutely stunning, Tony's fatherly instincts took over. "Yeah, I'm' going to need you to go back upstairs and put some clothes on, Darce."
"Well that's no fun dad," Darcy said with a smirk. "Then I'll be the only female here who isn't showing off the goods." She walked over to Steve and put her arm through his.
"You look beautiful," Steve said and kissed her.
"None of that," Tony said. "And keep your eyes on her face, boy scout."
"Really dad?"
"Go put a sweater on and at least cover your ta-tas," Tony said. "We'll wait."
"Stop it Tony," Pepper said. "She looks wonderful, now let's go."
Everyone stared silently stunned at Steve and Darcy who were currently on the dance floor. Tony had thought it would be hilarious to have the band play some swing music from Steve's generation. He was not expecting Steve to be so thrilled and jump up, dragging Darcy to the floor and begin to swing her and toss her around like she was a rag doll.
"The kid has moves," Tony said begrudgingly. "I just hope he doesn't drop Darcy on her head." He said as Darcy squealed, half from delight and half from fright when Steve tossed her high into the air, but caught her. Bruce dragged Natasha to the dance floor and surprised everyone with his dance moves as well. "Well that's just adorable," Tony said watching the normally socially awkward Bruce shine on the dance floor. "She's really good for him."
"Just like Steve is good for Darcy," Pepper said. "Admit it, accept it, and stop being such a jerk about it."
Tony sighed and rolled his eyes. "I know he's a good guy, I really do. I'm just messing with him most of the time because it's fucking hilarious to fluster him. But she's my only kid and she's been through a lot and I'm not sure a relationship is the answer at this point in time in her life."
"It's her decision," Pepper said. "And she could do a lot worse than Steve."
"If he breaks her heart though, I'll have to break his face."
"Why would he break her heart?" Pepper asked.
"Because he still loves Peggy. You should've seen him when we found her, how he held her. He called her his best girl…I could see it all over his face how he felt. He loves her still to this day and he may love Darcy too, but he is going to have to make a decision in the end and I don't think it's as clear as he thinks it is."
Pepper put her arm around him and kissed his cheek. "You can't protect her from everything, Tony. Heartbreak is a normal part of life. If he does hurt her, she's strong. She'll be okay. But you need to leave her decisions up to her and stop being an ass to her boyfriend."
Tony picked up his scotch and downed it in one gulp. "Fine, I'll butt out, but I'm not promising to not mess with him. It's too much fun."
Pepper kissed him again and squeezed his arm, nodding her head towards Steve and Darcy who were returning to the table.
It was close to midnight and Tony paid the club owner to shut it down to the public for the night. The band stayed and played on and the bartender kept the drinks flowing. Jane and Natasha had even managed to get Thor onto the dance floor. Everyone watched in amusement while the two women danced and twerked around a flustered Thor. "The women of Asgard do not dance in this fashion," Thor shouted over the music.
"That's too bad," Tony shouted back. He turned to Pepper and said, "Why don't you get out there and drop it likes it hot for daddy?" He slid his arm around her waist and pulled her against him.
"I'll drop it for daddy when we get home," she said and she leaned in and whispered into his ear.
"Hello," he said. "We're in a public place, let's not make the flag pole rise."
"Okay, that's enough," Darcy said. "That's beyond ew and I'm just going to go to the bar and attempt to get drunk so that I can forget any of this conversation ever happened."
"Actually I was hoping that you might join me in a dance," Loki said from across the table.
Darcy's eyes flashed and swallowed hard, risking a peek at Steve, whose arm tightened around her.
"That is of course, if the young Captain doesn't mind seeing you in the arms of another man," Loki said.
Steve smiled, but the smile did not touch his eyes. With his other hand, he picked up his shot of bourbon and gulped it down. "Now why should it bother me seeing my girl in your arms, Loki? Perhaps if I felt threatened, which I don't, it might bother me. But since it's just you, I think I'll be okay."
The smirk on Loki's face faltered. Tony watched the exchange with much interest and Pepper laughed nervously. "Okay boys, we're here to have a good time, not have a pissing contest."
Steve glanced at Pepper and then back at Loki and his smile widened. "We're not having a pissing contest, are we Loki? I think we both know whose is bigger."
The smirk completely disappeared from Loki's face and Darcy could feel the challenge coming from the heat of Steve's body. Steve didn't normally talk in a way that he would consider crude in front of women, but he had had a few drinks and Loki was trying to provoke him. Steve turned Darcy's face toward his gently and kissed her. It was a soft kiss that made the butterflies in Darcy's stomach go into a frenzy. He pulled back slightly to pull her bottom lip into his mouth before deepening the kiss. She melted into him, her whole body turning towards his.
Had Darcy seen the murderous look on Loki's face, she would've pulled away from Steve, but she was to into the kiss. Steve's hand wrapped around the back of her neck and pulled her closer and her hands slid up his chest and moved to his hair where she entwined her fingers within it.
"You can come up for air now," Tony said.
Steve smiled against Darcy's lips before placing three feather soft kisses along her jaw line. He leaned back and his smile widened in satisfaction at the dreamy, glassy expression of her eyes. He kissed her nose and looked at Loki. "Enjoy your dance with my girl," he said.
Darcy slowly came back to herself and smiled at Steve. "Can we do that more often?"
He laughed. "Anytime you want, but later. Loki asked you to dance."
She blinked. "Oh…right," she giggled. "I forgot he was sitting there." She turned to look at Loki and her smile faltered. He looked dangerous and almost as if he was considering pouncing on her and reminding her of just what he could do to her body if he wanted too. She suddenly felt the need to get him away from Steve, so she stood quickly, as did Steve. He moved so she could get out from the table. Darcy grabbed Loki's hand. "Let's dance," she said.
Loki slowly stood and followed her to the dance floor. The song the band was playing was a slow song and Darcy hoped it would help calm the savage beasts. Darcy put her hand in Loki's as he put his other arm around her. He jerked her so roughly against him that the breath was knocked from her lungs. "You forgot my presence did you, dearest Darcy," he purred against her ear.
She swallowed hard. "I'm sorry Loki," she said breathlessly. "I didn't mean to make you mad or hurt your feelings. It's just kind of hard to concentrate when your boyfriend kisses the world away." She trembled in his arms. "Please don't do anything bad to Steve or do anything to upset anyone."
Loki felt her tremble in his arms and he loosened his grip enough so that he could look into her face. "I would never actually harm the boy, Darcy or anyone else that you care about," he said.
"But you seem mad."
"I am annoyed," he said. "He tried to provoke me and he succeeded." He twirled her around to the music, before pulling her back against his chest. "I am not used to being bested by a child."
"He's not a child," she said. "He's older than me."
"And I am older than everyone here 100 times over," he said. "He is nothing but a boy to me."
"Well don't be mad," she said. "He's had too much to drink I think. He metabolizes alcohol a lot differently than the rest of us because he's kind of superman like. So when he gets drunk, it sneaks up on him cause he's usually had around 20 drinks by then and he doesn't realize that he drunk or what he's saying and I'm rambling again aren't I?"
"Yes, but it's adorable," he said. "So you think he has had too much to drink and I ought to forget his insolence."
"Yes, please, for me," she said.
"And what will you do for me?"
"Loki don't start this, please," she said softly as he swayed her to the music, their bodies pressed together.
"I told you that I do not intend to make this easy on you," he said. "I plan to pursue you to the fullest and I intend to win your heart."
"Seduction is not fair though," she said.
"Did I not just say to you that I intend to be anything but fair?"
'You do realize that I would be insane to be with you, right? My dad would probably have me committed for the rest of my life for being with the guy who kidnapped me," she said.
"I have an eternity to prove my devotion to you," he said. "To prove to you that I would never harm you, ever again."
"Not an eternity Loki. I'm a mortal, remember?"
"And as I told my brother not that long ago, there are many ways of making one immortal," he said. He watched as her face fell and her eyes took on a guarded expression. He almost see the wheels turning inside of her mind, but he didn't look. He had promised he wouldn't look and betray that trust. "What are you thinking?"
"I don't think you want to know," she said softly.
"I've upset you," he said. "I would never attempt to make you immortal without your permission."
"No, it's not that. It's just…I'm kind of tired now Loki, I think I should sit down."
Not wanting to give up the feel of her in his arms, he smiled gently. "Don't worry, I'll carry you," he said, tightening his hold on her waist and lifting them both into the air to hover over the dance floor.
"Well played," she said laughing as she laid her head against his shoulder.
"I thought you might find this romantic."
Back at the table, Tony was frowning. "What the fuck is this?" he asked, looking at Pepper and motioning towards his daughter in the Asgardian god's arms. "Rogers, what the fuck?"
Steve looked at Tony and shrugged. "Looks like he's trying to make us both mad, because I am assuming that I am the preferred beau?"
"No one says beau anymore," Tony said. "And yes, if I have to choose between the two of you, you got my vote. Now do your job as her boyfriend and go get my kid out of the arms of that dragon."
Steve shook his head. "He'd want me to make a scene and get her upset with me. Look, you and I both know that for some reason, she is attracted to him. Maybe it has something to do with that Stockholm syndrome or maybe she's just infatuated because of what he is, I don't know. But she and I have talked Tony and we want to be together. He's not going to get in the way of that."
"Okay, I'm glad to hear that," Tony said. "But I still want him to put my kid down and since you're stronger than me and Pepper made me leave my suit at home, I'm going to need you to go and get her. If you have to slug him, no skin from my teeth. Now go and prove you're from the greatest generation and get your girl."
Steve stood and made his way to the dance floor. Neither Loki nor Darcy noticed him until he reached up and pulled her from Loki's embrace and down into his arms. "Hey gorgeous," he said as he carried her bridal style back to the table.
"Jealous?" she asked smiling.
"Yep," he said and kissed her.
"Excellent, that was my plan," she said, kissing him back. "Seriously, he didn't mean anything, please don't fight him."
"We're not going to fight," Steve assured her. "We're all friends here." Steve sat her on her feet and wrapped his arms around her. He looked over her head at Loki who stood watching them from the dance floor. Steve smirked at him and Loki returned his smug grin.
"Enjoy her while you can, boy," Loki said under his breath and turned to speak with his brother who had just appeared by his side with Jane.
"Brother, are you enjoying yourself?" Thor asked with his eyes glazed slightly from the amount of alcohol he had ingested.
"Indeed I am, brother mine," he said. "Lady Jane, would you honor me with a dance since it appears my brother is too inebriated to enjoy the company of his lovely woman?"
Jane smiled and nodded. "Sure, that'd be nice. Go sit down and drink some water Thor," she said laughing as Loki swept her up into his arms.
Thor laughed heartily and staggered to the table. He plopped down heavily in the seat beside Tony and slammed his fist into the table, breaking it into and spilling everyone's drink. "Thank you my friends for being so welcoming to my brother," he shouted.
"No problem, "Tony said, wincing from the ringing in his ears. "Since we are all sitting here, you don't have to shout and how about getting us another table since you broke this one and spilled everyone's drink." Tony motioned for the server to come over to their broken table. Thor stood, picked up both pieces of the large table and tossed them behind him, smashing them against the wall.
"I'll get us another table, Thor, you sit down." Clint said, pulling the next table over in front of them.
The server took down everyone's replacement drink order and when Thor tried to order another drink, Tony interrupted. "Just bring him a coke." She nodded and bounced away to get the drinks.
The owner of the club ran over and whispered something to Tony. Tony waved the man away while handing him his credit card. "Put the damage on here, Jason, and calm down. He won't break anything else."
Loki turned Jane before dipping her low and pulling her back up to face him. Her cheeks were flushed from the effort of dancing and for the first time, Loki really noticed how beautiful she was. He had always thought her pretty, but never gave her a second thought when he met Darcy. He could see how his brother fell so hard and fast for Jane's gentle beauty and intelligence.
"I am glad that my brother has you," Loki suddenly blurted out, not sure what prompted him to speak on something so sentimental.
Surprise flashed in Jane's eyes, but she smiled warmly at him. "Thank you Loki," she said. "I am glad to have him too. I love him very much."
"You are good for him, too good for him actually," Loki said spinning her away from him before pulling her back. "He was an arrogant sot before he met you. I barely recognized him when he returned from Midgard after his first visit here."
"I think he's perfect," she said laughing.
Loki's face showed his distaste and she laughed harder. "Are we speaking openly with one another Loki? She asked him suddenly very serious.
"You are concerned about my intentions toward Darcy."
She nodded. "I am and I hope this doesn't…I mean I don't know how to say this without sounding awful but, it's not healthy for her to be attracted to you. You kidnaped her and traumatized her…wait, here me out." She took a deep breath and slowly released it, looking intently into his eyes. "I believe that you are genuinely sorry for what you did, but that doesn't erase that it happened. Do you honestly believe that you could have a normal relationship with her? Wouldn't a part of you always wonder if she was afraid of you? Darcy has night terrors sometimes, did you know that? What if one night, the two of you were together and she had one and when you woke her up, and you could see the fear in her eyes and its directed towards you."
"Are you afraid of me?"
"Yes," she answered honestly. "Sometimes I am. I'm sorry for that because the biggest part of me believes you when you say you want to change and you're no longer a threat. A small part of me believes your legend…that you're prone to violence, trickery, and danger."
"I want to tell you what I told Darcy," he said. "I will have an eternity to prove to her that I will never hurt her again. I am completely devoted to her and will stop at nothing to prove that devotion. I can say the same thing to you, Jane; I will have an eternity to prove to you that I love Darcy and mean neither of you any harm."
"I'll die Loki, and so will she, you don't have the time you think…"
Loki put his fingers to her lips to silence her. "There will come a time when my brother realizes what it means to love you," he said. "He will understand the loss that he is facing by your limited life. He will come to me and he will ask me to do something for him, something our father would probably refuse him. I don't know that Thor will speak with you about it or if he will make the decision for you because he will be determined to never let you go."
Alarm bells rang in Jane's head and she shivered slightly. "What will he ask you to do?" she whispered.
"He will ask me to make you as he is, immortal," he said. "And I will do it for him, even if it is not what you would wish, I will do it. I love my brother and I would see him happy for all eternity. "
Jane gasped and pulled away from Loki. "But…but…my parents…my brother…I can't…you can't do that…"
"Jane that is the price of loving my brother. I will do the same to Darcy, should she decide she can love me. It won't matter to me if she wishes to be immortal or not because I will not live without her if she ever loves me. So you see, Jane, I will have all eternity to prove to you, my soon to be sister, that I will love and protect Darcy for always, as Thor will love and protect you always."
"Thor would never…" her words died on her lips when she saw Loki's expression.
"Yes he would," Loki said very gently as he pulled her back in his arms. "Breath Jane, he's looking over here and he will know that you are upset."
"Did you tell me this to upset me?" she asked with a wavering voice.
He held her close, rubbing her back as they danced, trying to comfort her. "Not to upset you, no," he said. "I told you so that you could prepare yourself for it. So you could think about what it means to be with men like us. Please don't cry Jane. You would outlive your parents most likely and your brother, one day he would pass as well. You will still have my brother, who will love you forever, surely that counts for something."
She nodded, resting her head against his shoulder. "I guess I just never thought about what it really meant to be with him." She pulled back and looked up at him. "Promise me you won't do anything he asks you to do in regards to me until we talk about it."
Loki smiled patiently at her. "My loyalty is to my brother and if he was to ask right this moment to make you immortal, I would comply."
"But…"
"Shh," he said, pulling her head back down to his shoulder. "It has not even crossed his mind yet to ask me such a thing, so why concern yourself with it now. I told you simply so that you could prepare for it. It could five years from now or ten years. Enjoy the time you have now with your loved ones and continue loving my brother."
