Chapter 28

Kagome's P.O.V.

The magic swallows me up and soon I find myself 500 years back into the past. The familiar air wafts past my nose reminding me of what I had been missing. I climb the ladder of the Well quickly and see that I am indeed in the feudal era.

As soon as my toes feel the cold grass between my toes it seems as though everyone knew I was here, in their world, with the crescent moon hanging above us.

"Kagome!"

The voices echo in the chilly air of a beginning dusk. My feet sink into the dirt slightly as I walk towards the only sound in the clearing other than my puffs of breath.

Just as my eyes take them and all their glory in I'm slammed into the arms of a familiar body.

"Shippo!" I cry out in delight. I haven't held the boy in my arms for so long. I wouldn't trade this moment for anything.

My happiness has skyrocketed and I'm in a much better mood than just minutes ago, the only thing that could ruin it is seeing Inuyasha again. I am definitely in no state to face him again.

"Why have you been gone for so long Kagome? Oh I missed you so much," Shippo gushes with such excitement in his voice, "you have no idea how boring it is here without you around and besides, who would give me my lollies."

I smile a big smile as Sango and Miroku wack Shippo on the head when he indirectly called them boring.

"Don't worry, you haven't missed too much," Shippo comes in closer and then whispers in my ear, "except the fact that Sango and Miroku got a lot 'closer' after you left us."

I laugh and wiggle my eyebrows at the couple while they blush like mad.

"Maybe Shippo, you should lower your voice as it is called a 'whisper'." Miroku states as he rubs his neck in embarrassment.

We all walk to where the gang is camped for the night after Sango told me that we needed to have a big catch up on what's happened in the past few weeks.
When we all sat down and got comfortable my mouth had a mind of its own and starts telling them everything that went on between Allen and I from the beginning.

"He was running after me once I left the party, it was just too much to grasp all at once: Max harassing me; Inuyasha returning once again, I had to leave." I tell them as my voice lowers down to an almost whisper.

"I understand Kagome, I would have done the same thing." Sango reassures me putting her hand on my shoulder.

"But where's Allen now?" Miroku asks, "if he followed you then he must have gone down the Well which means he should be in the federal era and he should have arrived as soon as you got out."

"Oh my gosh," I whisper, "I saw him go into the shrine, yes… he did jump as well. I need to go back to the Well."

My legs take control of me and carry me all the way back to the Well as I try to get my head around the situation. Why isn't he here right now? Yes, I hurt him and yes, we broke up and yes, we're just friends right now but I love him so much and I need to know if he's alright.

My hands land on the rough, worn wood stopping me. I look down not expecting much but I still see the frayed edges and dark bottom of the Well. He's not here. Of course, he wouldn't be here. The Well isn't something you can use to your pleasure and expect to always get your way.

A hand lands on my shoulder, squeezing gently in a comforting way. I turn to see Miroku standing beside me saying nothing so all the sound that passes between us is the soft whip of wind.

"I'm sorry... Kagome." He says quitely.

"It's not your fault." I reply flatly.

We walk back in silence with a sinking feeling inside the pit of my stomach. Thoughts stir up in my mind but I push them back knowing it will only make it worse. But one thought in particular sticks out and keeps prying at the edge of my mind. What if I never see Allen... again? No. I must not think such silly thoughts because I know I will see Allen again. I just know.

I am a horrible person. Please don't kill me.
