Chap. 28
Two of a Kind Makes a Pair
Shinichi walked through the door at home as afternoon came after leaving the magician in the care of his assistant and looked around, hoping to find his father there.
"Mom? Dad?" he called out but only saw how his mother stuck out her head of her bedroom.
"Sat-chan's working," Avaron smiled and saw that her son seemed unsure, "hey, is something wrong?"
"Ah..." Shinichi blushed and hesitated, "how does it feel to be in love?"
Just as he suspected his mother became full of glee and just giggled, not that he would expect his father to react differently, but he knew that his parents had the ability to be serious when they were required to. "Mom, I'm serious."
"I know, come here, I'm just putting the clean laundry in the wardrobes," the woman smiled and went back into the room, seeing out of the corners of her eyes that her son started to follow her inside.
"So..." she smiled at him and sat down on the bed as he slightly leaned on the doorframe, looking like a spitting image of how Satoru leaned on walls whenever he spoke about serious matters, "you think you might be in love with... Kaitou KID?"
"I don't know. I care for him, but I care for Saguru too," Shinichi shrugged as he shuffled his feet and straightened his stance while he tried to force his blush away from his cheeks, but to no avail.
"Do you care for them the same way?"
"I-," Shinichi frowned and realised that it was different, but it was different on how he cared for his father and mother too, "it's different, but it's different between everyone."
"Okay, then what made you think you might be in love with him?" she asked and knew that she hit jackpot as Shinichi's hand flew up to his mouth and his cheeks grew redder.
"I-, I-, he... I gave him morphine, and... he kissed me, while drugged," the teenager stammered and shifted his gaze to the floor, too embarrassed to look at his mother, "but it was different..." Shinichi couldn't help but to caress his lips a bit as he remembered the tingling heat that he'd felt, followed by the waves of pleasure. "Very different."
"And you liked it?" Avaron smiled at her nervous son, seeing him squirm a bit as he resiliently kept his gaze on the floor.
"No. Yes. Maybe. No…" Shinichi quickly rattled off what he wanted to say, followed by what he knew was true, only to get doubtful.
"Calm down," Avaron grinned, feeling excited; she had uncovered her son's first love-interest, and it was someone she approved of; it was a good day, "remember the kiss and then answer."
"Yes," the whisper barely reached her ears as Shinichi responded with a blush that spread down his throat.
"How was the kiss different from the others that you've given away?" the woman asked with a grin.
"It was... Um, warm, and my heart began to beat harder. It was…" the teenager fidgeted nervously, feeling that he might be going too far by describing it to her, "amazing..." His quiet sigh was interrupted by his mother's loud laughing and he stared at her in shock and embarrassment, immediately leaving the room to flee to his own.
"Shinichi! I'm sorry!" the woman continued laughing and followed him to his room, only to meet a locked door, not that she couldn't unlock it in a second, which was exactly what she did. "I'm just laughing because you're so cute!" she grinned and stuck her head into the room, seeing that her son was lying on his stomach on the bed with the pillow over his head.
"Yes, I think you're in love with him," Avaron smiled as she sat down beside him and placed a reassuring hand on his shoulder, before she pulled the pillow away without meeting any resistance.
"Really?" Shinichi asked into the sheets, feeling his cheeks heat even more, and turned his head so that he could see his mother.
"Yea, I think that you might be in love," the woman repeated in a gentle voice and caressed his back, "especially since this is the first time you've even considered that you have to ability to fall in love, and besides, you said you liked the kiss, so try kissing him again when he's not drugged, and try seducing him. If someone can; it's you. Besides, knowing you, you've probably already begun seducing him."
"Maybe," Shinichi mumbled with flushed cheeks and felt his heart pound hard at the image of a contently smiling KID in his arms, uncertain if he should try to seduce the other, but even if he failed it might be a good experience for the future.
Seeing that her son was in deep thought, Avaron got up and left his room to finish the laundry, knowing that he wouldn't be speaking for a while. As she was preparing the dinner she peaked into her son's room, seeing that he'd fallen asleep in almost the same position as she'd left him, but it just made her smile and she left him to sleep since he'd been up the entire night.
"Shinichi, dear," the woman gently shook the teenager's shoulder and heard him mumble something incoherent before he cleared his throat.
"I'm awake," he croaked without opening his eyes, making her shake her head as she knew that he would fall back asleep if he was given the chance.
"The dinner is ready in a couple of minutes, and I made you a cup of coffee," Avaron smiled amused as one blue eye was forced opened at the word 'coffee' and got up to finish with the food, "it's on the table."
With heavy limbs Shinichi rolled over and accidently fell to the floor, groaning as he'd thought that he'd been in the middle of the bed. His body was sluggish, but he knew that he couldn't sleep the entire day; he'd just wake up early in the morning.
Shinichi groaned as he forced his body up from the floor and stapled out to the kitchen, forcing his muscles to work, but as he got to the table he sighed exhaustedly; holding heists every few days and then staying up an entire night was draining him to the bones. He needed to find a way to get away easier than running and jumping the way he did, but now that Kaitou KID wouldn't be able to attend the heists it'd be a lot easier, and if he dared to show his face with the kind of injury he had Shinichi would drug him, kidnap him and tie him to the bed to keep him from worsening it.
With his eyes glued to the black liquid in the cup he carefully lifted it to his lips and emptied it, feeling his mouth burn a bit from the careless action.
"Tired?" Satoru's voice asked and Shinichi looked up at the man that placed an iron pot on the table.
"Yea… When did you get home?" the teenager asked murmuring.
"Half an hour ago," his father answered with a smile as he sat down, but it still didn't hide the fact that he was irritated, judging by his slightly more aggressive and forceful movements.
"Annoying client?" Shinichi asked with a yawn and heard him snort.
"Don't remind me," Satoru muttered as he took his son's plate and placed stew and rice on it while Avaron smiled as she sat down.
"But on related news, dear," the woman grinned at her son as she waited for Satoru to take his dinner, "your son has something he wants to tell you."
"No, I don't," Shinichi argued and dug into his food, seeing that his father was smiling at him gleefully.
"Go on," Satoru urged and made the teenager grumble a bit, "what is it that you have to tell me?"
"You were right," Shinichi confessed, knowing that withholding information would bother him.
"As much as I love hearing those words… Right about what?"
"I'm gay, most likely," the teenager stated, "mom says that I'm in love."
"Ooh," Satoru cooed uncertain and made Shinichi look up with a cautious expression, "that doesn't bode well…"
"In the past you've said that you'd accept me," the detective felt dread wash through him as he got an image of his father throwing him out. Even though he knew that it would most likely not occur he still couldn't shake the fear of it happening.
"No, what I meant is that the only people you've been hanging around with are those black types," Satoru explained and saw his son relax, "unless you're talking about Kaitou KID?"
"Yea, I think that I might be in love with him," Shinichi confessed and fidgeted a bit as he blushed, "he-, he kissed me, while drugged."
Just like his mother, Satoru burst out in full laughter and made the young thief blush more while he tried to ignore his parents.
"You drugged him and he kissed you! That's the most hilarious thing I've heard all day!" his father guffawed as he forgot all about his annoying target.
"Shut it," Shinichi muttered under his breath and began to eat while hearing Satoru's laugh dial down to a chuckling.
"Have you spoken to him about it? Or have you two gotten together?" the man continued as he studied his embarrassed son.
"No, I had given him morphine, and he didn't seem to remember it when he woke up, but I'm not sure if I love him or not. What if I tell him that I love him and then it turns out that I don't?" the teenager voiced his concern and waited for his parents to help him make up his mind.
"Tell him that you have feelings for him, and then wait with saying 'love' until it feels right," Avaron suggested smiling as she finished her plate and saw her son nod.
"I'll do that," he stated and poked the last of his dinner, not feeling like eating it all since he'd just woken up.
"Just imagine it! You in black and KID in white! You'll be so adorable!" the woman giggled a bit.
"He doesn't know that I work for the organisation that killed the previous Kaitou KID, but I can only hope that they had the wrong person…" Shinichi sighed, realising that he could easily find the name of Kuroba Toichi's son and then fell into his own thoughts where he stayed for the reminder of the evening until he went to bed, feeling as if he'd tricked KID into revealing who he was, but decided to suppress those feelings.
As soon as Shinichi woke up he picked up his phone and immediately went online to see if KID had sent anything on the forum, like he did every morning.
'We need to talk, face to face,' KID had written in the middle of the night and made Shinichi blush as he knew the most likely cause for their talk, but it could very well be that the magician's injury needed more attention.
'Sure, can we meet by the Tokyo tower at seven tonight? Or is that a bad time?' the thief replied and turned his voice low and gravelly before he called his boss, explaining that the fever he'd been having still hadn't gone down, and was told to go to the hospital. With a sigh Shinichi got up from the bed, surprised at seeing that the time was already half past eight and went into the kitchen, greeting his mother that was half-asleep on the table.
"I'm bored. Satoru's gone on a date with that paranoid Yamaku-business-guy," Avaron complained in a sleepy voice as Shinichi sat down with a cup of coffee and two sandwiches, "he really takes our bets too seriously."
"Go find some trouble to cause," he suggested with a grin, "steal an ice cream truck."
"Yea, that might be funny. I'll do it later… and I'm broke again," she muttered annoyed and made her son frown, wondering what his parents actually did to burn money as quickly as they did, but he knew that when they whined about having no money, they still had quite a lot, but they couldn't do as much on whims as they normally did, not without thinking ahead for a little bit.
"Didn't you buy a piano for 2 million yen?" he asked with a frown, remembering something that had been said by the dinner table a few days before.
"Yea, but it never made its way up here, and I might've broken it…" the woman yawned and straightened herself, "you're not on your way to work yet."
"I'm not going, and I'm planning on destroying the food at the hotel the day after tomorrow and fire myself because of my incompetence," Shinichi smiled and checked his phone for a new message, but saw none, "and about that piano. I remember something about pliers and picking it apart. Clearly, that piano was brutally murdered, no matter what you say." Avaron grinned at her son's joke and saw him check the phone once again, smiling as he began writing something in it.
'I'll be there. How do I find you?' KID had written.
'Remember the first time we met. I'll be dressed the same as then, get help to search for the red light,' Shinichi began searching on the internet for hotels near the location and got a room on the top floor, but he was both happy and nervous as he began packing for a medical check-up and then headed to explore the area around the Tokyo tower together with the medical bag, until noon when he could leave it in the hotel room.
KID confirmed that he understood the message as Shinichi was on the roof of the hotel setting up a red laser towards the sky and hiding it so that no one from the Tokyo tower could see it unless they were standing at the absolute top where no one but KID's assistant would be able to go. They didn't need any curious persons from the forum showing up and getting it confirmed that the conversations by White Rose and Black Rose were the phantom thieves; he'd seen a few debates about it, but it always boiled down to the main question. Why was Kaitou KID on a Night Baron-fan forum? And why would Night Baron and Kaitou KID communicate fully visible to others? –They weren't that foolish, so the conversation was obviously staged by someone with two usernames, or just two random persons.
As he waited on the roof in the shadows at seven Shinichi heard how the door opened and a man in dark grey clothes showed up with his right arm in a sling, making the thief grin.
"Hey, you're just on time," he stated in Night Baron's voice as he exited the shadows, seeing that KID nodded a greeting.
"There are some things we need to talk about," the magician stated seriously as Shinichi walked up to him.
"I know, but not here. We're currently visible from the Tokyo tower if someone is using night vision goggles." With a nod KID turned around and walked inside, holding the door open for his foe and saw Shinichi grab the small laser before following.
"I have a room free from bugs so we can speak there, undisturbed," Shinichi informed as they walked down the stairs, seeing that KID was observing him with a scrutinising gaze.
"Well, first off you can drop the accent, I know that you don't have one. Why do you even fake one?" the magician answered with narrowed eyes, making the other thief nod before he opened the door to the hotel corridor and peeked out, seeing that one person was waiting at the other end of the hallway for the lifts.
"I knew that Yuusaku would show up, and I didn't want him to hear my Japanese speech pattern, so I faked an American accent to hide it, allowing me to speak Japanese normally with my fake identity," the thief explained and saw how the woman entered the lift. With quick movements Shinichi had taken the card key, walked across the corridor and opened the door, holding it open for the tense thief unaware that KID now knew that Night Baron had planned for his identity to come across the author in some way.
"So, how are you feeling?" Shinichi asked as he turned his back to the other to remove the scarf that was hiding his identity and placed his smaller mask over his upper face.
"A bit dizzy an hour after I've taken the pain-killer, but otherwise fine," KID responded with an edgy tone as Shinichi turned around.
"Take off your shirt," the western thief demanded and saw how the magician twitched a bit, confirming that he now remembered the kiss. "I want to see that the injury is healing well," he clarified and saw how the magician reluctantly obeyed. Shinichi cleaned his hands and undid the bandages, placing them in the garbage bag, knowing that KID would take them with him when he left.
"Do you have hotel rooms all over the city?" the magician wondered as he leaned on the wall for support and winced a bit as he watched how Night Baron cleaned the outside of the wound and then took up new bandages from the same bag that he'd seen before.
"No, I just rent hotel rooms when I need them, so now I currently have one," Shinichi grinned and was happy that the wound was looking good, "there, it seems to be fine. Now was there anything else?"
The magician's ears grew red, confirming that he was wearing a latex mask that hid his face.
"Actually… I have to say; I'm sorry," KID murmured with an unhappy sigh, "about the kiss, I mean." For a millisecond Shinichi's brain grew jumbled, weighing the pros and cons of obeying his parents; seduce KID, just like Night Baron would seduce anyone, or be the nervous young man he really was. The black thief took a deep, calming breath before letting his lips curl into a pleasant smile and felt his cheeks heat up.
"Don't be," Shinichi murmured, seemingly very content as he placed a hand on the wall beside KID's head, watching the magician grow nervous, "I liked it."
"Wa-wa-what?" KID stammered and Shinichi saw how his pupils dilated as he leaned in closer, making him force away the nervousness that coiled together with the excitement inside his body.
"Ever since that kiss all my head has been filled with are images of you," the western thief breathed out as his eyes hungrily stared at the magician's trembling lips, unaware of the shivers of anticipation that travelled along the usually white-clad thief's spine; Kaito loved the way Night Baron closed the distance between them and the words that made his insides melt. "Your eyes, your lips… If you don't stop me now, I will kiss you," he purred, only centimetres from the other's lips, amused seeing where the edge of the latex mask was as the blush was spreading down the magician's neck, and then pushed his lips against the other's when he received no answer.
He felt the same heat spread down his throat and his eyes closed on their own as the worry vanished and his body began to tingle with pleasure. Quietly Shinichi wondered if this was what everyone else had felt while kissing him and he smiled as KID carefully reacted with kissing him back.
Pushing his lips against KID's with more force caused Shinichi's mind to drown in scents and pleasurable sensations, and as the magician snuck the uninjured arm around his waist and pulled him closer all thoughts of the fact that he might not have feelings for the other were eliminated. With hunger burning inside him Shinichi felt how a new flare of heat sent an electrifying arousal through him as he tried to indulge in that foreign feeling. The magician moaned deeply and released his grip around his foe, only to make the sling go away so that his arm could hang useless by his side instead of being in the way.
Kaito gasped as his mind went blank, overwhelmed with the passion from the kiss and the pleasure that threatened to make him perish as he was pulled off the wall and flat against the other thief's body, feeling his entire existence burn. All he could do was try to meet Night Baron's demanding and powerful, yet sweetly gentle kiss. Suddenly a tongue was in his mouth without even having asked for entrance, exploring it thoroughly and made Kaito's knees weak. With shy eagerness he tried using his tongue to battle Night Baron, but the other thief clearly knew what he was doing and wouldn't let him win, even if he grew gentler when he felt the insecurity in the magician's movements. As he was kissed even deeper hands began to move over his back, caressing him, and his already over-sensitive body couldn't handle it. Kaito mewled as he gasped for air, feeling how his knees became unable to hold him upright.
They ended up on the floor. Kaito hadn't even felt himself connect with it, but he could feel the hard surface against his back and the strong body on top of him. One of Night Baron's hands was cradling his skull so that the hard floor wouldn't hurt him while the other was busy stroking along his front and sides, firmly and tenderly at the same time, shooting cascades of intense heat through him. His black-clad foe's touches made Kaito release a strangled cry that only seemed to intensify the kiss as Night Baron greedily swallowed the sound.
Kaito felt the other thief's glove against his skin when Night Baron opened the highest buttons on his shirt and sent a shock through the magician's system, but this one wasn't from pleasure, it was terror; he hadn't realised that his black tie was gone and he certainly wasn't ready for more, and in panic his brain called out for a stop. His body was already overwhelmed and he couldn't handle more in fear that he'd actually die from the devastatingly strong feelings. His muscles were trembling and he doubted that he could change Night Baron's mind if the thief had already made it up and had some kind of dark beast deep inside him; it wouldn't surprise him, not that much connected to Night Baron would surprise him. Night Baron was too contradicting to be understood.
"Stop," Kaito gasped for air as he turned his face away, breaking the kiss, "please, stop." Much to his surprise Night Baron's weight disappeared as the thief rolled off of him; why had he even thought that Night Baron would force him further than what he could handle? Maybe it was that fierce demand in his kisses and touches that almost called out that he wouldn't stop, no matter what.
"I can't," the magician whispered while watching how the other thief studied him curiously and felt how his muscles trembled from exhaustion as he sat up; his body was clearly shocked by the intense feelings, "I'm not ready for anything like that."
"I know," Night Baron's calm, breathless voice stated as he too sat up and made Kaito look at him with surprise, "first kiss?"
"Yea, first real, real, kiss," the magician whispered as he thought back on the many people whose cheeks or hands he'd kissed and felt how his mouth tingled; he could still feel the delightful sensation of the invading tongue exploring his mouth and there was a hint of a taste that he didn't recognise. The taste didn't belong to himself, and it wasn't something unpleasant; it was just as foreign as the feeling of another tongue in his mouth, and he smiled a bit as his muddled mind realised that he finally knew what Night Baron tasted like, but his mind still asked how it would feel to trail kissed along his skin.
A new flare of hunger made him want to throw himself over Night Baron and demand more of whatever the thief was willing to give him, but he knew that he wouldn't be able to handle it.
"I'm probably a lot younger than what you think," Kaito stated in a low voice, feeling the need to confess, since everyone thought that Kaitou KID was middle-age, and sighed as he looked to the other thief, wondering what the difference between their ages was.
"Around twenty, nineteen maybe," Night Baron guessed with a smile and saw the magician's eyes widen.
"You're good," Kaito sighed and studied the parts of the other's face that he could see, "and you're between twenty and thirty, according to Tantei-san's files, and I'd have to agree."
"Yea, I'm twenty-fi-," the thief interrupted himself, realising that he was saying the age of his fake identity and not himself. For a moment he just sat there with his mouth slightly ajar, and then frowned as he folded his arms against his chest and realised that he didn't know his real age; it wasn't information that was important since he always had other identities, and he couldn't even count birthdays since his parents had held two birthdays for him this year already.
"I don't know," Night Baron confessed a bit surprised and looked to the magician, "I'd have to say somewhere between fifteen and thirty."
"How can you not know how old you are?" Kaito asked shocked and received a shrug for an answer.
"I always make up new ages for my fake identities, and depending on what they are doing and their past I make them the age I think is appropriate. My real age is just a piece of useless information to me, since I've never actually used it, so I've forgotten."
"You don't even know what year you were born?"
"No," the black-clad thief stated and realised that he could easily check how old Kudou Shinichi would've been if KID wanted to know, "if it matters much I can find out, but I'd rather just leave it alone... Bad memories..."
"Oh, sorry," the magician mumbled and looked to his foe, feeling how an awkward silence spread between them.
"So? Um," Shinichi interrupted himself as he stared into the other's clear eyes, "are we, dating now?"
"I-, I think so," KID answered and placed his arm in the sling with a puff, "that's what people do, right?"
"Yea, I guess," the western thief slowly stated, "I haven't thought about these things, but what does normal people do when they date? What should we do?"
"We could go and have some food, and talk about it," KID's mouth began to grin again, making Shinichi smile back at him, "we could go now, or tomorrow if that's better."
"I have a disguise on," the westerner grinned while he got up from the floor and offered a hand to help KID up.
"So do I," the normally white-clad thief shone with happiness as he accepted the outstretched hand of the westerner who was supposed to be his enemy, seeing only joy in Night Baron's eyes.
A/N: I won't be answering any old reviews this time, since I've been gone for such a long time. If I have answered on reviews already I don't actually remember it ^.^""
I'm terribly sorry for my absence, and your reviews always fills my heart with warm, fluffy happiness! No matter how many times I read them I always becomes all giggly and embarrassed even though no one can actually see me gush over them.
