Somebody To Die For

Chapter 28

John gave her a sad smile. "Emma said something about costumes," he said quietly. "Did they do anything like that with you?"

Bailey nodded. "Yeah, they had costumes and shit. The women that were there did my hair and piled loads of make up on. They would dress me up occasionally but most of the time, I was naked," she said embarrassed. They would leave me in a freezing cold bath half of the days. Said it was to 'cleanse me'."

"They tied me up with barbed wire on a bed and left me there before Tomas and Oscar found me, they took me back here where my family was, I thought I wasn't going to se them again." She said as a tear spilled down her cheek.

"Were you ill?" Catherine asked softly.

Bailey nodded. "I picked up an infection, more than likely TB. Daryl's dad went to the hospital to get some antibiotics for me, which helped me recover," she said softly. "I thought I was going to die at one point, everyone did. After that I was fine, just a little mentally unwell. I was terrified of them coming back, they kinda messed with my head more than anything else," she explained.

"We'd like to take Karen Sawney Bean and the two men into custody if that's alright?" She asked and Bailey nodded.

"You'll have to ask Rick, he's the leader of the group." She said softly and they all nodded as she headed out of the room and saw Daryl leaning on a cane heavily.

Bailey hurried over to him and let him rest his weight on her. "Daryl... what are you doing? You're supposed to be in bed resting!"

"I wanted to be by yer in case something happened." He said groaning slightly as she helped him up the stairs to their bedroom.

"I was serious about tying you to the bed, you know," she said with a small laugh as they went into their room.

Daryl sighed as she helped him take off his clothes. "I feel so useless."

"You're not useless Daryl, you're ill," she said softly as she kissed his chest. "Now come on, back into bed for you."

He nodded and got under the quilt as she got under as well and pulled him into her as he snuggled into her and felt her slight bump.

"How's the little un?" He asked tenderly.

"He or she is fine," she said softly as she took his hand and placed it on her stomach. "They just want their daddy to get better." she added with a small smile.

Daryl nodded and soon he fell asleep in her side as he lightly breathed in and out, his hand interlaced in hers as they held each other.

"Love you, Daryl," she said softly as she pulled him in closer to her and stroked his hair as she watched over him while he was asleep.

The next few weeks Daryl recovered from being ill and his leg healed up nicely but he still had to take it easy sometimes.

Anna rubbed her bump gently; she was huge and was sitting beside Judith sewing a blanket when she felt another contraction.

"Oh god," she said as she looked down at her stomach and then looked up at Rick. "Rick! I think the baby's coming!" she panicked as she stood up and set down her on a blanket; before she heard a splash hit the floor and looked down to see that her waters had broken. "Uh oh."

"Oh shit, Hershel, Bailey!" Rick yelled as he picked up Anna and carried her upstairs to their room where he placed her on the bed and she held his hand tightly.

"Oh god, ouch." She gasped.

The others ran in and immediately set to action when they seen Anna was in labour. Rick helped Hershel get her out of her jeans, and make her comfortable on the bed, while Patricia came in with some water for her and a damp cloth to wipe her head.

"It's gonna be OK, Anna," Rick said softly. "Not long now and we'll have a beautiful baby boy or girl."

She smiled at him then and relaxed as another contraction hit and she held his hand tightly as Carl and Judith sat beside her.

"He or she really wants to get out." Anna said as she slumped against him.

Carol came back with some water for Anna to drink, while Bailey held a wet cloth to her forehead. Hershel gently pulled her knees apart and pulled off her panties before looking up at her. "Alright, Anna, I'm sorry, but I need to check how dilated you are so we know when it's OK to push, alright?"

Anna nodded tiredly as she lay back against Rick and closed her eyes, thinking of when the baby would be out and they'd have a beautiful son or daughter.

"Alright, whenever you're ready to get that little one out of there, you just push, alright?" Hershel asked as he helped lift her legs up slightly, and Anna tried to steady her breathing.

"Fuck it hurts," she gasped as another contraction ran through her. "I'm going to try pushing," she said as she gritted her teeth together.

For the next couple of hours or so, contractions would come and go, and Hershel would check how far on she was. Rick remained by her side the whole time, as did Carol and Bailey who were excited to meet the new arrival. Anna was uncomfortable with the pain, and Rick wished there was something he could do, but damn he was proud of her. A few times she would want to give up, but Rick held her hand and gave her words of encouragement to keep her going.

Hershel checked again and looked up at her. "Alright Anna, when the next contraction comes, I think it's time to push."

"Ok." She said gripping Rick's hand as she felt another contraction and pushed with all she had.

Rick held her as she pushed, Beth and Carol had come in with a few things Hershel needed, the young women's eyes filling with tears, "Oh my God I can see the head Anna, and it has so much hair!"

Anna groaned and continued to push, just wanting the baby out. She was sweating and panting as she squeezed Rick's hand tightly, while Carl and Judith sat by her soothing her. Soon Hershel had managed to guide out the shoulders, and was gently easing the baby out as Anna continued to push as hard as she could. With one final loud yell and one final push, Hershel had her baby in his arms, as Carol helped Rick to cut the umbilical cord.

"It's a baby boy; you two have a beautiful baby boy!" Hershel said smiling at them all as everyone smiled at the new arrival.

"What are you going to call him?" Carl asked as he stroked the dark haired baby boy, his baby brother cooed at them.

Rick looked down at the baby and smiled before he looked up at Anna and kissed her forehead gently. "I'm not sure," he said softly. "What do you think we should name him?"

"How about James Daryl Merle Morgan Stewart Grimes?" Anna suggested and Rick smiled as he looked at their newborn son.

"It's perfect." He said softly.

"Hi, little man," Anna said softly as he cooed at her and wriggled in her arms. "He's so amazing," she said softly as she rocked him gently.

Rick smiled down at the pair of them. "He sure is. Little James Grimes."

"Kick ass name." Anna said smiling as she stroked her son's dark hair as Carl and Judith looked at their little brother who cooed.

"He's so beautiful." Carl said touching his cheek.

"He sure is," Rick said softly as he watched his family bond with the newest member. "You two are going to look after and protect your brother, alright?"

Judith nodded as James wrapped his tiny fingers around her small hand. "Yes, dada."

"We will dad, don't worry." Carol promised and he smiled at his baby brother as he snuggled into Anna who stroked his soft curls.

"How are you feeling?" Rick asked softly.

"I'm alright, a little tired and sore, but it was worth it," she said softly as she looked down at her son, as he placed his hand on her and cuddled her.

Everyone smiled at that as they all headed downstairs into the living room to give the family some peace where Bailey held Dean when he squirmed and she put him down when he wobbled onto his feet and started to walk.

"Mama, dada, Aoife, Merlie, Beth, Maggie, Glenn, Katy, Emma." He said smiling.

Look at that!" Bailey said excitedly as she watched him. "He can walk," she said with a grin, as Dean made his way around the living room holding onto various items.

"That's my boy," Daryl said with a smile as he slumped down onto the couch with his cane at his side. "I wish his old man could walk as easily."

"You're getting there Daryl, you've just torn some muscles." Bailey assured him and he nodded, his leg was getting better and it didn't hurt as much as it did before.

"Mama, dada, Aoife." Dean said happily as he ran towards them happily.

"Hey, baby boy," Bailey said softly as she crouched down and picked him up. "Mommy's good boy, aren't you?"

Dean smiled before he placed his hand on Bailey's stomach. "Baba?"

"That's right son, that's your little brother or sister."

"Baby sis or brother." Dean said happily as he snuggled into Bailey and she sat down next to Daryl as he looked at his father.

"Me want hug." He said to Daryl waving his little arms.

Daryl chuckled at him. "C'mere then son," he said softly as he extended his arms and Dean climbed over and cuddled into him, resting against his chest.

Dean smiled as he cuddled into his parents and the others smiled as they watched them fall asleep, holding each other tightly.

"I love this family." Sam said softly.

"I think we all do," Carol said with a small smile, as she placed a blanket over the Daryl and the others, before they all went to get some rest.

The next morning Daryl got up and got out of bed and was pleased to find that his leg wasn't hurting anymore as he decided to do a bit of hunting.

He looked at Bailey who was fast asleep with Dean snuggled in beside her along with Aoife as they all slept.

He pulled the blanket up over them before going up to get changed, making sure he had warm clothes this time, before grabbing his crossbow and heading outside into the woods.

He found a couple of squirrels, a racoon and a pheasant as he strung them on his belt and headed back to the house when he saw a group of people heading to where the house was.

"Oh shit," he muttered as he ducked down beside a tree, making sure they wouldn't be able to see him. He couldn't work out if these people were friends or enemies, but what worried him the most was that while everyone else was asleep upstairs, Bailey and the kids were sleeping in the sitting room. "Fuck," he growled as he gripped his crossbow and sneaked closer.

He saw that they looked like scientists and military as they spoke quietly to each other and gestured to the house.

"Do you think people live there?" A male voice asked.

"Let's look," one of the men said, as each one of them went to a window.

"Hey guys!" one of them called out. "There's a woman and kids asleep in there," he said as he pointed through the glass.

"Fuck." Daryl cursed and he hurried to the house as he heard one of the men knocking at the door as he dumped the dead squirrels, racoon and pheasant as he reached Bailey.

"Bailey wake up, baby." He said urgently.

Bailey stirred and looked around her, as Daryl pushed the kids into her. "Stay here," he said softly, "Stay away from the windows."

He rushed over to the door and opened it, glaring at the man, "What do ya want?"

"We just want to talk to your leader and find out who you are and everything." The man said calmly as Rick came down.

"What's going on?" He asked Daryl wearily.

"We got some company," Daryl explained as he nodded at one of the scientists. "They wanna come in and talk to us."

Rick frowned at them for a second as before letting them in. "You can make this quick then," he told them.

They both nodded and came in as the others looked at the two scientists with curiosity as they all went into the living room.

"We're looking for a baby called Aoife Caroline Swan?" The man asked and Bailey stiffened along with Daryl as they pulled Aoife into them.

"This her?" the man asked as he watched Daryl and Bailey carefully.

Bailey shook her head. "This is Aoife Marie Dixon, named that after we found her abandoned as a newborn in the woods. She's our daughter."

"What do you want with her?" Rick asked them concerned.

"You have to understand Mr Grimes, she is the first baby born since the dead rose." The man explained and Bailey held Aoife tightly.

"Her birth parents have consented to allow us to do experiments on her as well." The man added and Daryl pulled Bailey, Aoife and Dean into him.

"What sort of tests?" Bailey asked worried.

"That's classified information, miss," one of the men butted in as he watched them with narrowed eyes.

Daryl put his hands down on the table firmly. "Bullshit! Why the hell should it matter what her birth parents have consented to? They left her, they abandoned her. We fed her, we clothed her, we cared for her, taught her to walk, talk, Bailey and I have raised that girl, and she's our daughter, blood or not. We all love her. So as her father, ya ain't got my consent to go anywhere fuckin' near her."

"Then we'll have to take you to court then, I'm afraid." The man said flatly as they got up and Carol showed them out as everyone watched in silence when Bailey looked at Daryl with tearful eyes.

"I'm not letting them taking our girl Daryl, I can't." She said and she burst into tears as Daryl pulled her into him.

"I know Bailey, I know."

"Mama?" Aoife asked as she looked up at them looking upset. "Are they taking me away? Like they did with Judy?"

"No, sweetheart," Bailey promised her as she crouched down and pulled her into a hug. "This is your home here, and me and your daddy are going to fight for you. And if we had to kill everyone standing in our way, we would, because we love you."

Daryl pulled them both into him and held them tightly as he stroked Aoife's soft, dark brown curls and kissed her on the forehead gently.

"I'm sorry we brought ya'll into this." He said to Rick feeling bad.

"Don't worry about it, your all family to us all." Rick assured him.

Daryl nodded in thanks. "We'll deal with this and them, don't ya worry," he said softly.

Bailey sighed as she sat down next to Daryl with Aoife and Dean in her arms. "What are we going to do? We should have never let them in. I should have gone to bed and not slept near the window, they would have thought the house was empty."

Daryl got an idea suddenly. "We go into hiding," he said quickly. "That's it... the lake house... if they come back; Rick and the others could tell them we'd left. They can search the house, but they won't find the four of us."

"That's a good idea Daryl; you all go and pack your things." Merle told them as they headed upstairs to pack when Will looked at his eldest son.

"We could just take the group out?" He suggested and they all stared at the man as if he had gone crazy.

"We can't do that." Merle told him firmly.

Bailey nodded. "He's right. Someone would end up getting hurt and we don't want anyone's blood on our hands," she said softly. "They won't be able to find us at the lake-house; no one knows it's there. We didn't even tell you guys about it until now," she said quietly. "Has a couple of bedrooms and a bathroom, as well as a kitchen and a small sitting room."

Carol gave her a small smile. "I'll go pack you some food, water, blankets, and anything else you'll need."

"Thank you Carol, that's kind of you." She said softly and Carol hugged her tightly before going off to pack when Rose looked at them.

"Take Smudge and Lupo with you." She told Bailey as Smudge ran over with the wolf pup that licked her hand.

"We will, thank you," Bailey said softly, as she put some of the pet food into a separate bag for the animals. She went upstairs, where Daryl was helping Aoife and Dean pack their things. She checked around the room and made sure everything was packed, that way it would look like they truly had left. She took the photos down and placed them into a box, as well as all the keepsakes they had around the room.

"We'll be back, don't ya worry." Daryl assured her and he hugged her tightly as they headed downstairs where the others were waiting.

"Be careful, Bailey." Hershel said hugging her tightly as did Maggie, Beth, Glenn and Merle; she hugged them all as did Daryl.

"We will be, don't worry," she said softly as they picked up their bags and Dean took Daryl's hand, while Aoife took Bailey's, with Smudge and Lupo at their feet. "And if you ever wanna visit, to find the lake-house, head to the bottom of the lake, and look to your left. It's sheltered behind the trees; it's quite hard to see."

"We'll make sure you're safe, we'll keep things right here," Merle assured them. "Take care of yourselves."

"We will Merle, thank ya." Daryl said as he hugged him then Beth, Dylan and lastly his father who hugged him tightly.

"Ya be alright, ya hear?" Will asked quietly looking worried.

"We will, ya take care." Daryl said thickly.

Will nodded, and they all waved them goodbye, as they made their way to the lake-house, with Smudge and Lupo following them closely.

"Do we have a new home, mama?" Aoife asked softly.

"Just for a little while, sweetheart," Bailey replied as she held her hand tightly.

They reached the lake house and they headed inside as they all checked the rooms and unpacked their things where Bailey started to unpack the food.

"Our new home." She said quietly, hoping that the men wouldn't find them.

Daryl wrapped his arms around her and kissed her neck gently, as she put the food into the cupboards. "We're gonna be safe here, I promise ya," he said softly. "Hopefully when they realize we've left the mansion, they'll stop looking and move on," he added.

She nodded and held his hand tightly as they headed into the living room where Dean was playing with Aoife; Lupo was snuggled into them along with Smudge.

"C'mon ya need a lay down." Daryl said pulling her into him as they sat on the sofa and watched their children.

"I'm alright," she said softly as she leaned against his chest, and looked out at the still, peaceful lake. "I'm just glad they're safe."

"I am too." He said as they watched it rain outside, they had brought the bike and truck with them.

Anna smiled down at James as she rocked him gently, while everyone in the house got ready for bed. Oscar and Merle were taking watch outside, and Rick made sure everything was locked up before they went upstairs. Anna set down James in his crib. "He's so beautiful."

"He's got your smile." Rick said as he came over and smiled down at their son who slept contently and cuddled his teddy bear, he had his dark brown wavy hair but Anna's eyes.

"He looks like you." She said touching his face tenderly.

"He looks like you too," Rick said softly as he kissed her gently before they got changed for bed. "He's gonna be quite the handsome little man when he grows up, huh?" he smirked.

Anna laughed. "He sure will be if he looks like his daddy," she said as they got into bed and snuggled up together.

"I hope Daryl and Bailey are alright." She said as she traced Rick's scars on his chest and he held her tightly to him.

"I'm sure they're fine." He assured her.

Anna nodded and relaxed against him, as she yawned, her body tired, but looked at her son and smiled, knowing it had been worth every minute. "Night, Rick," she said softly. "Love you."

"Night Anna," he replied as he held her tightly. "Love you too."

Daryl made sure all of the lights were out and that the fire was out as they all got ready for bed with Bailey getting the kids ready for bed.

"Are we safe here mama?" Dean asked quietly.

"Yes, baby," she said softly as she kissed his forehead. "No one can see us here. And your daddy and I are right here if you need us for anything," she said as she stroked his hair. "Uncle Rick is going to make sure the bad men are gone, and then we can go back home."

Dean nodded and got under the sheets along with Aoife who curled into her baby brother and they held hands as Bailey watched over them when Daryl came in.

"They alright?" He asked softly as he sat down next to her.

"They're fine," she said with a small smile as she watched her children. "They have each other, and they have us," she added. "Nothing or no one's going to hurt them if I can help it."

"I won't let them get hurt either." He said holding her close as they went into their bedroom to get ready for bed and got under the quilt.

"How's your leg?" She asked softly.

"A lot better," he said softly as he stroked her hair. "Damn glad I can move around again properly," he said with a small smile, as he shifted his leg around, feeling little to no pain anymore.

She smiled at that and kissed him softly before she curled into him and he held her tightly as they both sat in silence.

"What made ya realise ya loved me?" He asked quietly.

"I always did, Daryl," she said softly. "I had that butterfly's in my stomach feeling whenever you were around, or spoke to me, or looked at me, I couldn't stop thinking about you, and thinking of you always made me smile," she said as she stroked his cheek. "And one day I realized... I was in love with you."

He pulled her into him and held her tightly as they watched the moon shine over the lake in the back yard.

"Touch me?" He asked quietly.

Bailey gave him a small smile as she climbed over him and straddled his lap, before she leaned down to kiss him, her fingers winding through his hair, as she pressed her hips into him and he grind his hips gently against hers. Daryl looked up at her and smirked mischievously as he pulled her out of bed. "We ain't gotta worry about the whole house hearin' us no more," he chuckled, as he pulled her nightgown over her head and she took his sweatpants off. "We finally get a little privacy." He placed his hands on her hips and kissed her hungrily. He needed this, not only had it been a while since he was recovering from his injuries, but with all the stress, he had to let it out.

"I need to feel ya," Daryl whispered as he pushed her back against the wall, and lifted her up, wrapping her legs around his waist and her arms around his neck. She smiled at his desperation, she had to admit she had been waiting for this for some time too, her hormones were everywhere with the pregnancy. She felt his erection press against her stomach as he placed his hands on her back and shifted her slightly. "Oh, god." she shuddered in anticipation as she felt him tease her.

"Gonna make sure ya remember yer mine," he growled as he nipped at her collarbone. Bailey was grinding herself against him, begging for him to be inside her. Eventually, Daryl was so painfully hard he couldn't wait much longer and he made sure he had a firm grip on her before slamming into her, automatically picking up a harsh, fast rhythm making both of them moan in pleasure. He kissed her roughly, his tongue sliding into her mouth as he thrust into her, and she whimpered as she dug her fingers into his waist. He felt a dull pain in his leg, but he wasn't going to stop now, no chance.

He continued to pound into her, nibbling on her lips, as she moaned into his mouth, her hair flopping down around her sweaty forehead. Her back knocked against the wall every time he thrust into her, but she barely even noticed. Daryl lowered his head down and took one of her nipples into his mouth, making her cry out quietly as she tightened her grip on him.

"Harder!" she gasped as Daryl pulled her legs up further around him and thrust into her as hard as he could, making her cry out with pleasure. This was the roughest Daryl had been, but hell she was enjoying it. He buried his face into her neck and ran his tongue along the skin.

"That's it." he groaned as she clenched around him. "That's it Bailey. Do ya want me to stop?" he asked. Bailey shook her head and gripped him tightly. "Tell me then Bailey," he hissed into her ear. "Tell me."

"No, don't stop! Please, please don't stop!" she panted as she held on tightly to his waist to keep her balance. "Oh, god, don't stop!"

Daryl wound his hands into her hair and tugged her head to the side before he began biting her neck, the stubble on his face scratching her skin. He slid his hands down to her ass and gave it a gentle squeeze as she threw her head forward to rest on his shoulder, "Oh, Daryl, oh, Daryl!" she moaned. "I'm...oh, god, DARYL!" she cried out as she felt her orgasm crash over her.

He covered her mouth with his as her walls started to contract around him and her body shook, while she moaned his name repeatedly against his lips. She felt his body tense, and knew he was also on the edge of finishing. Daryl thrust hard into her a few more times, before he gave one final, harsh thrust and exploded, his body going weak as he spilled himself into her with a loud growl.

"Oh fuck!" He snarled as he continued to thrust inside her and she pressed herself into him as they rode out their orgasms.

"Oh god, Daryl." She moaned.

Bailey's body went weak and slumped against him, as Daryl wrapped his arms around her tightly, and laid her back down in bed, before climbing in beside her. "Ya alright?" he asked as he kissed over her chest.

"More than alright Daryl, I feel wonderful." She said kissing him as he rubbed her breasts and she kissed his mouth.

"Mmm," she sighed happily against his lips as she reached up and stroked his goatee. "I love you so much, you have no idea."

"I love ya too Bailey, so fuckin much." He said stroking her cheeks.

She smiled as they curled up together, and fell asleep in each others arms, feeling safe and loved.

The next morning Rick woke up along with the others as they all headed downstairs to have breakfast when they heard knocking on the door.

"I bet ya that's the scientists." Merle said grimly.

Rick nodded as he got up from his seat to answer the door, met by three men staring at him. "May we help you?" he asked calmly.

"We're here to collect Aoife Caroline Swan to do some experiments on her." The man said and Rick looked at him with hard eyes.

"She's not here I'm afraid." He told them calmly.

"What do you mean she's not here?" the man asked confused and with an angry expression.

"I mean they moved on," Rick explained simply. "They didn't want you to take their daughter, so they decided to leave the group. Feel free to check around the house if you'd like," he said, gesturing with his hand as an offer for them to come inside.

They stormed inside the house and went into all of the rooms where they found no sign of Daryl, Bailey, Dean and Aoife.

"Have you seen your son and daughter in law?" They asked Will harshly.

"No I haven't." He said calmly.

The men looked at them suspiciously. "Why do I feel like you aren't telling me the truth?" he growled.

"We are," Carol shrugged. "They left yesterday, said they were sorry, but Aoife was more important, and they needed to get away. It was sad, but we know she's somewhere safe now."

Maggie looked at them all and suddenly started to cry, hoping the men would buy it. "I miss her. I'll probably never get to see the baby."

The men looked guiltily at each other as Maggie continued to cry and looked at all of them as they all sighed unhappily.

"We're just doing our jobs mam." The man said looking uncomfortable.

"Yeah well your damn job costed me losing my grandchildren, my son and daughter in law!" Will snapped at them.

The men all looked at Will but didn't say anything, as they finished the search of Daryl and Bailey's room. "Ain't nothin' here," one of the men reported. "Looks like they really did move on. They could be anywhere by now."

The soldier sighed as he looked at all of them and nodded.

"Let's go." He said and they hurried out of the house.

"Thank god for that," Rick said as he watched them go. "Nice show, Maggie, that deserved an award."

"You think they're gone for good?" Anna asked as she rocked James.

"I'm not sure but we'll keep an eye out." Rick said as he went to sit beside her.

"I hope Daryl and Bailey are alright." Will said worried.

"They'll be fine," Merle assured him with a small smile. "Daryl won't let anyone come near Bailey or their children, he'd kill them," he said, knowing how protective his brother was of his family.

Will nodded and watched Patricia play with Rose and Dean when Beth came over to where Merle was sitting.

"Can we talk?"

Merle nodded. "Sure we can, sugar," he said as she sat down beside him and looked at him nervously.

"So uh... after you got up this morning, I was sick," she said quickly. "I thought I just had a bug or something, and went to get some tablets. I seen a pregnancy test and I thought maybe... just maybe... y'know. So I took it," she said embarrassed. "And it turns out it was positive."

"I'm going to be a pa?" He asked stunned and she nodded as a shit eating smile came over his face and felt delighted.

"HOLY FUCK I'M GOING TO BE A PA!" He yelled as everyone looked up.

"What?!" Will asked shocked as he grinned widely at Merle and Beth. "Seriously?"

"Seriously," Beth nodded happily, glad Merle wasn't angry.

Hershel stood up and smiled at Beth warmly along with Merle.

"I'm happy for you two." He said hugging them as did Maggie and Glenn when she spoke happily to all of them.

"We're having a baby too!"

"Oh wow," Rick said smiling as he hugged them all. "Three babies on the way then. It's certainly going to be a full house," he chuckled.

"I wish Daryl and Bailey were here." Beth said sadly.

"They will be soon," Rick assured them. "We just need to make sure the military are off our backs first, that's all."

Everyone nodded and went to do their own thing with Hershel, Sam and Peter going into the garden to check the plants and crops while the others did their chores.

"So quiet down here," Daryl said as he and Bailey sat on the porch step looking out onto the lake, while the kids played safely with Smudge and Lupo inside.

"It feels strange not seeing the others around or the animals." Bailey said smiling softly as they heard a car pulling up and froze.

"Search outside the house and then inside, NOW!" A man snapped.

"Get inside the basement with our stuff and the kids, darlin." Daryl told her.

"Where are you going?" she asked alarmed.

"I'll be right behind ya," he said, and Bailey nodded, as she ran into the house and told Aoife and Dean to get into the basement with the animals, before she took the boxes of their stuff down with her. Luckily they hadn't unpacked, because they hadn't planned to be here long.

Daryl watched her go down into the basement and followed after her as he heard the men storm into the house and quietly shut the door as he went to where Bailey and the others were.

"Daddy are we safe here?" Aoife asked quietly.

"I hope so, sweetheart," he said quietly as he pulled them all tightly against his chest. "Daddy ain't gonna let anythin' happen to ya, I promise."

She nodded and curled into him as they all held each other tightly.

"They have to be around somewhere!" A man yelled.

Daryl hushed everyone to stay quiet as he held them all tightly, and gripped his crossbow in his hand. He could feel Aoife and Dean shaking underneath him and tried to soothe them. "We're OK, we're OK," he whispered.

They all nodded and Bailey held his hand tightly as they heard someone outside checking the area as they all stayed quiet, the truck and car were safely inside the garage.

"No one's here Thomas." A man said to another man.

"Then we'll take the other little girl, Judith."

"They can't do that," Bailey snarled. "They don't just get to do that," she growled as she pulled out her gun.

"Bailey, don't!" Daryl warned.

"No, they're not having Aoife or Judith," she snapped, as she made her way back up to the house. She didn't want Aoife in danger, but she didn't want her friends to be either. She stepped out of the basement. "How about you leave us all alone?!" she yelled at them, as she fired her gun and hit one of the men in the leg.

The man cried out in pain as the others fled the house, thankfully they hadn't seen her as they fled the house and drove off as she walked to the man.

"Why do you want Judith and Aoife?" She asked calmly as Daryl hurried over.

"We wanted to do blood tests on her, find out if she was born with the walker virus or not, since she was born after the outbreak," he said as he stared at Aoife. "If she wasn't, then her blood might hold the cure."

"Were you going to kill her?" Bailey asked as she narrowed her eyes. "Or just run tests?"

"We weren't going to kill her lady, are you stupid?" the man snapped. "We work for the CDC; we're not some brutal murderers. We just want a sample of her blood, we can work with that."

Bailey looked at Daryl who nodded at her as they tended to his wound and dragged him into the truck as they packed their stuff in the trunk.

"Yer coming with us." Daryl told the man as they drove back to the house and met Morgan and Rick at the gate.

"We need to talk." He told his friend.

About what?" Rick asked as he looked into the trunk of the car worriedly. "Who's that?"

"One of the men from the CDC, we caught him," Daryl explained. "He told us that all he wants from Aoife is a blood sample."

"He wants one from Judith as well." Bailey added as they brought the man inside and he looked at all of them wearily.

"Would you all be willing to come to the CDC for a blood test?"

"Ya gonna try and blow us up?" Daryl muttered coldly.

The man looked at them confused. "Huh?"

Daryl shook his head. "Never mind."

"We won't hurt any of you, especially not the kids," the man said quickly. "Please, it would really help." He looked at Bailey. "We have a lot of medical equipment. We can check your baby. You'll be able to hear his or her heartbeat too," he said with a soft smile, and Bailey's face brightened a little. "It's pretty cool."

"Will you let us come back to our home after we go to the CDC?" Anna asked and the man nodded in agreement.

"You have my word; my name is Doctor Quinn Henderson." He added and shook their hands as everyone got into the cars and followed Quinn to the CDC.

"So where is the base now anyway?" Rick asked confused, since the CDC they had been too had been blown up.

"We're at an old military base not far from here," Quinn explained. "We joined up with what was left of the army."

"I see, are they good people?" Rick asked wearily not wanting to put his family in danger as they pulled up outside the base.

"No they're good people." Quinn assured them as they all got out.
