Chapter Twenty-Eight
Daughter of the Tyrant
Zula glanced around herself wandering where they were.
She can hear music playing in the distance and laughter of people echoed through the entire area. She can see a lot of people dancing and there were two people in a ring that were locked in a fight. They were mere children about twelve to thirteen years old and one of them was a girl. The two were firebending in a duel, but it was nothing like what she knew. It was brutal and vicious.
Zula instantly recognize the girl as a younger Xion who was fighting with a boy who was older than her.
"I was the youngest out of my entire family," the older Xion told her standing right beside where Zula was, "In my father`s family we were all trained to fight and kill anyone who was a threat to our family. Of course, at the time, all I thought was to make my father proud but in his eyes, his children were troops to add in his expending army."
"The world was still very new in this stage of advancement," continued as the images around them faded completely as they were standing in white space, "A couple hundreds of years ago; this world was completely dominated by Spirits who roamed the lands. Humanity resided on the Lion-Turtles who protected them from the Spirit`s wraths."
Zula gave her a surprised glance.
"The Spirits used to live in the physical world?" she repeated shocked.
Xion nodded.
"Yes…but Avatar Wan, the First Avatar in the long Cycle ended it," she said, "Everyone knew the legend of the man who not only lived in the wilds with the Spirits but also, learned from them. He was the only man in the world that could control the Four Elements…but the peace he wished for didn`t last for he died during one of the wars."
"With his death," Xion continued, "People believed his time was over and that the world would never see someone like him that would live again but then I was born."
Zula glanced at Xion.
"You`re the Second Avatar?"
Xion looked at her.
"Yes,"
Zula frowned.
"How did you know that you were the Avatar?" she asked.
"I was fifteen when I found out that I was the Avatar," Xion told her, "And it was during a battle."
Then the area changed again and Zula found herself standing in a warzone.
All around them people were fighting with swords and large blasts of fires were launched all around the people. They were rocks flying about as man stabbed each other to death and blood flying from the wounds of people felling. Zula can feel her stomach turn at the violence that was taking place all around her, she had never been in a battle field in her life, and she only read them in history books and novels.
"Agni`s Grace," she whispered.
"War is hell," Xion told her.
In the images, Zula recognized Xion quite well despite her armor. She had a sword in her hand, and it had blood all over it. The girl short hair stuck to her skin with her sweat pouring down her forehead. The armor she was wearing as oddly reminiscent of the Fire Nation with the symbol for fire upon it. With her firebending, she was taking out people from one side to the next and her sword was cutting people too.
"Xion," a male voice yelled.
The girl glanced at where the voice came from finding a young man there and behind the man was an enemy soldier with his sword ready to kill him and Xion moved before she knew what she was doing and from her palm a sudden gust of air flew out blasting the enemy away from where the man was.
He turned toward it completely shocked and glanced back at the teenager.
"Y…You used Air," he said.
Xion stared at her hand completely shocked for a few seconds.
"We need to talk to Father about it," the man said.
Older Xion and Zula observed them.
"Did you know then?" Zula asked.
Xion shook her head.
"No," she said, "Everyone had known the legend but not even I expected what I have done…"
A new image appeared in front of the duo and it was Xion again and the young man was with her. There was an older man in the room. He was heavily muscled with a long bear. The man eyes were observing them quite carefully.
"You said she used the power of Air?" the man said.
"I`ve seen it with my own eyes Father," the young man told him, "If she didn`t…I would have been dead."
The man turned his attention toward the younger Xion, who was silent.
"Is this true Xion?"
"Yes Father," the girl told him.
The man smiled, "Luck is smiling upon us…for you to have the same power as the legend himself Wan. Such power in our hands, our great Nation wills persevere. If you can use Air, you can use Earth and Water as well."
Xion looked at him, confused.
"What are you thinking Father?" she asked.
"Well, if you can bend the elements," Ming Xia Hung said, "If you learn them…there is no way that anyone could stand against us. They will rally behind us and we will conquer this world."
The younger Xion gave him a bow.
"Then I will do as you command Father."
Zula looked away from the images in front of her and toward the older Xion beside her.
"You were going to use your power to control the world," she said.
"Young and naïve I was back then," the woman told her as she observed the sights in front of her with a melancholic look in her eyes, "I was raised by a tyrant Zula, a man who kills because he enjoys it and I believed that`s how the world should be like….I believed that my Father was a great man in what he was teaching me…and That`s how I began my journey as the new Avatar following the legend of the Great Wan himself."
The images changed once again and Zula was now seeing Xion in front of what looks like to be mountains and she knew where the girl was going.
"The Airbenders were my first stops," Xion explained to her, "It was rumored across the world that Avatar Wan spends many years with them. They were the ones that were the most spiritual of all of the nations and his teachings were left with the nomads. It took me five months to find them and when I did, they welcomed me with open arms.
"I was so surprised at how different they were," Xion continued, "After living and knowing only battle all my young life, seeing such harmony between people were…strange. They were all so different than what I usually know that I couldn't help but be amazed at them."
A new image showed up in front of the two and Zula saw a young Xion walking through what look like a Temple of some kind. She had an Air nomad with her, an old one too from how the man was walking. Xion was wearing similar clothes to him.
"We have been waiting for your return whom who carries the Light Spirit of Raava," the nomad was saying.
Xion gave the man a glance.
"You knew that I was coming?"
"Yes," the nomad said as they come to stop in front of what looks like an wooden carving of someone. A young man by the look of it and he had what looks like a Spirit flying around him.
"Wan," Xion said shocked.
"He has left us with quite a bit of knowledge about the Spirit worlds," the monk told her, "I hope that I could offer you guidance before you travel to the other cities and learn Earthbending and Waterbending."
"There is something I don't understand," Xion questioned, "Before the Harmonic Convergence when Wan became what he is today, none of the people could bend their elements. The Lion-Turtles were the ones who gave us the power over the different elements. What changed?"
"A lot my dear child," the old monk told her, "Harmonic convergence changed this world spiritual energy along with the people that live within it. The descendants of the people who the Lion-Turtles had gifted with the respective elements have reached the power of bending. That`s how the first benders were brought to."
"I see," Xion said softly.
The older Xion took over again.
"Learning Airbending was…hard," she said, "All my life I was used to have control over my every move but to free myself of all that was my hardest challenge…but within many months of training and spiritual training, I managed to learn the element of Airbending. The monks have taught me so much about their way of lives that I started to see how wrong my father`s way was. The way they lived in harmony with the world and everything was startling…and I was starting to have doubt within myself about Father`s plan."
Earthbending came easier than I expected," Xion continued as more image showed her training with a young man, both of them bending in sync, "I was always a stubborn and strong hearted child. My master, Roshu, had become strong and great friends in the many days we trained."
The images changed yet again.
"Waterbending took some time to master as well," Xion told Zula as the two saw a slight older Xion gliding over the water along with another girl, "It adapt at any situation and also gave me a quite flexible way of thinking. All that knowledge I have gotten in the years, from the different peoples I had met since I have left my family to travel had changed me in ways I couldn`t comprehend. I could find myself understanding Wan`s journey to bring peace to the world and deep within my heart…I can feel myself wishing for that peace too. I have changed, I was no longer the same Xion that had been completely brainwashed by her father, but to find out how much I changed was the day I lost my firebending."
Zula gave her a glance.
"You lost your firebending?" she said shocked.
Xion nodded.
"When I firebend, I fought with a heart of a conqueror and a tyrant," she said, "My firebending was solely based upon those feelings and because of how much I have changed…those feelings I had always carried out within me was gone."
The woman beside her sighed.
"I spend three years trying to get my drive back," Xion continued, "Three years and I couldn`t even firebend as well as I used to. It was like I was completely disconnected with myself. I knew I couldn`t return to my Father without my Firebending, and as his daughter, I could feel nothing but shame within me because of it.
But one day something happened," Xion said, "Something extraordinary…"
A younger Xion was on the road with her hood up to hide her face from the sun when the sounds of battle reached her ears. The young girl quickly approached forward and noticed that a caravan was getting attacked by a group of people. She observed them quietly noticing that they were wearing armors of the Earth Kingdom which were attacking some Firebenders. Being a Firebender for all of her life, Xion couldn`t stay away without helping.
The girl jumped out of her hiding zone, and using Airbending, she zoomed down toward where the fight was happening and blew two of the Earthbenders away with a single move.
"Who…?"
Xion wasn`t listening, already focusing upon two others Earthbenders who were taking on a man. She can see from how the man was standing that he wasn`t a fighter, but he could firebend something she found really interesting.
She bended the Earth beneath her causing tree stomps to grow on the side, smacking them hard on their bodies of the trio sending them flying away from the man. The two stood up again facing her and Xion took her stance.
"That`s not of your business girl," one of them said.
A rock flew out of the ground and aimed straight toward Xion who destroyed it with her fist. She retaliated by doing a spin on her feet launching a gust of air from the side causing the man to be thrown to the side and with her hand on the ground, she continued her Airbending attack causing large winds to throw them away from where she was.
"You…you can bend two elements at the same," one of the man said shocked.
Xion turned toward them.
"Yes," she said, "I can bend Earth, Water and Air."
"That`s amazing," one of the man said, as they crowded around her.
Xion frowned noticing something peculiar about the group she just saved. None of them were warrior materials. She can see it well from how they were standing and how they were reacting.
"Thank you for your help," an old man approached.
He was dressed in long robes which had Sun Symbols upon it. He looked gentle as he was walking with his staff.
"Don't worry about it," Xion told him with a smile, "I was just passing by when I heard the battle. You guys were getting overwhelmed so I couldn't just stand by."
"What is your name girl?" the old man asked.
"Xion," she said, "You can call me Xion…but there is something I wanted to ask you. None of you are warriors but…you can firebend. How is that possible?"
"The Great Shen taught us how," one of the men said, "He is the Son of Agni, the Goddess of the Sun."
"Er…Agni?" Xion repeated.
"She is the Goddess that blessed us with the gift of Dance of Sacred Fire," the old man said, "I`m quite surprised that you don't know of who Agni is."
"You can say that I am kind of new on these parts," Xion answered, "But…do you think that Shen will be able to teach me Firebending?"
"You carry Raava`s Light Spirit," the old man chuckled, "I`m sure he`ll be honored to teach you after all, your previous self had brought great change to this world."
Xion meets the Sun Warriors...and they are the students of Shen...
