"Ianto! On your left!" Jack Harkness called out to his colleague as the unique alien which they were currently in battle with attempted to take a chunk out of Ianto's shoulder. Heeding the Captain's warning, Ianto instantly put his excellent reflexes into action and leapt to one side, dodging the alien's attack. He wondered to himself why on Earth he wanted to persuade Jack to let him go with him on a field job, especially since his speciality was making good coffee and being a great fake Tourist Information Centre receptionist. Instead, here he was, dancing with Death as part of his work.

As he ducked and dived to avoid the slashing claws of the extra-terrestrial creature, Ianto desperately thought up ways they could kill it, since every way they'd tried so far had failed undoubtedly, only resulting in vaguely harming it at most. So far, they had: stabbed it, shot it, decapitated it and even set it on fire, however none of these techniques worked at all. As the Welshman considered their remaining options, a sudden idea came to mind.

"Jack! Do you still have that grenade on you?" He yelled over to Jack, trying to peek over the alien so he could see him.

"Yeah, but it's only for emergencies!"

"I'm fairly sure this classes as an emergency!" Ianto was gesturing to his boss to get out the grenade.

"But what if we don't get away in time? I don't want you to get hurt." Jack's expression made him look utterly heartbroken, as if he was completely torn on the decision that he was about to make. One option was to use the rare piece of Torchwood equipment that would likely kill the alien though could result in Ianto getting injured; the other option was to save the grenade and try find another way which, yet again, would likely end up with his closest colleague getting harmed.

Ianto noticed Jack's hesitation. "Look, it doesn't matter about me – just use the bloody grenade! It's the only way."

After another few moments of dramatic anticipation, Jack abruptly shouted: "Oh, screw it!" Then, he ripped out the pin with his teeth, grabbed the creature by its slimy horns as he hastily carved a hole in its gut, and buried the grenade in the alien's flesh. Once he did so, there was only around two seconds left before the grenade was due to explode, therefore he clutched his boyfriend's hand as they dashed forward, powered further due to adrenaline. Thankfully, when the grenade did go off, the two men were far away enough to not be wounded by the blow, despite the force of it knocking them to the ground. However, their ears were ringing horrifically, causing them both to be momentarily deaf. Jack stood up first, offering a hand to Ianto, who gratefully took it as he heaved himself to his feet.

"You okay?" Jack asked, his brow furrowed in concern for his colleague.

"Yeah, I suppose. Though my hair is matted with alien guts. What about you?"

"Never better. I'm pretty sure we killed it this time." As he spoke, he glanced back at the giant red splat marks that had painted pretty much the whole street. "I should bring you out on alien hunts more often." He gave Ianto his typical Harkness grin.

"Mmm yeah I don't think so." Ianto smirked at his boss as Jack held out his hand. The Welshman gladly took it, and they strolled off together, smiling contentedly. That was another threat successfully neutralised.
