"We brought lunch, or dinner." Kate comes into the murder room with bags of food. Rusty and Sharon behind her with more bags and drinks. They gather around the table where the food is being set down.
"Lieutenant Flynn," Andy looks up at Sharon's call. She walks toward his desk the others look up, he puts down his drink worried. Kate and Rusty look worried too. "Mindy, the waitress at the diner." The team listens more carefully now. "She asked me to deliver a message." Sharon waves a paper in her hand, she slips it into his shirt pocket. He keeps his eyes on hers. "Something about a yearly meeting that's coming up." The others try to contain their laughter but can't. Sharon raises her eyebrows at him and walks away. "I think you should give her a call." She lets through the room. The others continue laughing as Sharon walks to her office, Kate and Rusty follow Sharon they look at Andy apologetically.
"Mom, did you really have to do that?" Sharon shrugs as the three fall into their seats.
"She's jealous." Rusty says softly, Sharon shoots him a glare. "Come on Sharon, Mindy has been after Andy since before you two were together." Sharon takes a forkful of her salad. I'm not jealous.
"She's young, probably my age." Kate frowns looking at Sharon and Rusty.
"Yes," Sharon responds. Kate looks at her Mom carefully. "I'm not jealous, I was teasing him." Rusty and Kate look at each other not believing her.
"So you going to call her Flynn?" Provenza asks grinning from afar. He loved that he had this opportunity to tease him. The others laugh, Andy pulls out the paper from his pocket. "What does it say?" Andy shakes his head and runs his hands along his neck. They all see his worry. "You think it's serious?" Provenza grumbles, a bit of understanding entering him.
"No." Andy answers he stands up and puts on his coat.
"Where are you going?" Provenza asks frowning along with the others.
"I'm going to return a message to Mindy." Andy says softly. The others look around at one another. "If the Captain asks tell her I'll be back." Provenza's about to stop him but instead lets out a long puff of air.
They all continue eating quietly, when Sharon's door opens they all look at each other anxiously. She looks over to Andy's desk first and frowns looking around. "Did Emma finish the deal?" She calls out instead.
"Yes, Captain, Mrs. Jenson was taken away already." Sharon nods. "Here are the files that need to be signed off." Sharon nods taking them from Provenza.
"Lieutenant Flynn," Sharon struggles, "is he in the break room?" They all look down at their desk. Sharon starts walking toward the break room.
"Um, Captain." Julio starts. "He left said he'd be right back." Sharon looks around and nods, clearing her throat and returning to her office. They all look at each other shaking their heads, returning back to work. The last thing any of them wanted was something to break them apart, but none of them dared to input in the relationship either.
Andy arrives at the diner only minutes later he steps out of the car and enters the diner finding the young blonde sitting in a booth alone. He walks towards her and slides in immediately.
"Andy." She practically squeals. "I knew you'd come." She sits back grinning, he feels her leg going up his leg.
"No, Mindy." He shakes his head pushing her leg away, she playfully frowns. "Mindy, I'm with Sharon now, you knew that. And you decided to send a note with her?"
"Sharon?" She frowns acting confused. "You mean the Captain, that was months ago." She teases.
"Yes and it is still going on." She frowns he opens the note and reads it. "I will see you later today at the hotel room we usually meet at, I can't wait." He hands it back to her looking frustrated. "This is not true, you knew it would bother her." Andy is trying to remain calm but his voice says otherwise.
"Hmm," she crosses her arms. "I like you Andy." Mindy leans into the table and whispers. "She doesn't need to know." Andy lets out a breath of disbelief. He stands up immediately.
"You leave her alone." He says softly but forcefully.
"Or what?" She asks teasingly.
"I'm sure Lyla wouldn't like to lose LAPD business, you'll get fired immediately." Mindy eyes pierce into Andy.
"You really have changed." She says frustrated.
"You are harassing the woman I love. While our," he pauses reordering his thoughts hers not ours, "while her children were with her." He waits for her response.
"I will lay off." She raises her hands at her side and grins as he walks away.
Sharon sends Kate and Rusty home as soon as their done eating, quickly getting into her work. Andy returns to the murder room, everyone looks at him, he doesn't say anything and walks directly to Sharon's office. They all raise their eyebrows to one another. He stops at the door of her office and sees Sharon with her back toward him, he leans on the door frame watching her as she sways slightly leaning over her desk looking through folders.
"Oh Sharon, answer a question." His voice breathy, she spins around. "Why am I so lucky to be able to run my hands along your body?" He walks into her office.
"Andy?!" She exclaims as he closes the door.
"Just tell me." He smiles.
"We are in the office." She looks around, her hands in her pockets as he walks to her. "How did that meeting go?" She asks teasing and jealousy obvious in her voice.
"Mindy and I don't have a place of meeting. It was a lie, she was trying to make you angry." He stops to calm his annoyance. "I talked to her. I never expected that from her." Sharon nods her arms crossed.
"So you defended me?" Sharon smiles, he lets out a deep breath. She wasn't upset.
"You know you shouldn't wear that suit?" Andy doesn't even try to be subtle about a topic change, there was no comparison from Mindy to Sharon.
"Andy it's a pantsuit." She chuckles. He reaches her wrapping his arms behind her back he expects a hesitation but instead she soaks into his hold her hands going up and down his arms.
"I love you and I only have eyes for you." He runs his fingers applying pressure down her back until they are on the small of her back. She hums closing her eyes. "Your ass, it just looks so nice in these pants." He whispers in her ear, grinning.
"Andy!" She exclaims laughing as she pulls away. "If I answer your question will you behave?" She smiles, moving behind her desk.
She turns realizing he followed her, her legs meet the desk. "Can you wait a few minutes to answer?" Sharon tenses, as he meets her neck with his lips. "I'm sorry, I know you need time but you just smell and taste so good." Sharon whimpers her fingertips holding him tightly, her body relaxing at the soft touch of his lips. He nibbles in her neck, she hums putting her head back, to expose her neck.
"How about you continue along until I finish explaining." She lets out softly giggling. Andy smiles at the sound of her giggle he would never get tired of the sound. And the thought that she was feeling more comfortable, happier made him feel the same through his body. He lifts her onto her desk, she smiles. "How long have you've wanted to do that for?" His hands moving up her hips.
"Too long," He smiles meeting her eye gaze. "But maybe we can take the fantasy to its full content another day." She grins. Although she doubted they'd ever have sex in the office she loved hearing about his fantasies and knowing he still craved the feel of her skin on his made her somehow, relax.
"Don't get your hopes up." She teases as he smiles latching his mouth to hers, she lets a breathless noise into his mouth sending a heat through both of them. He searches for bare skin under her shirt, his fingertips finally on her waist caressing her. She whimpers pulling back taking a breath. "Someone can come in." Her breathing hard her eyes closed as his hands go to her neck his fingers caressing behind her neck and thumbs on her cheeks.
"Oh, I leave in a few hours and I don't get to see you for days." He lets out frustrated kissing her gently but with desperation.
"Don't remind me." Her breathing heavy. She holds him at his waist as he stands between her legs, he is pulling her sleeve off her shoulder, biting at her skin. "You'll call me every night?" She asks through a sound of pleasure.
"Yes and you'll message me through the day?" He lays kisses from her neck to her jaw.
"Oh I'm going to miss you." She didn't want him to leave, but she hadn't told him to not make it harder for both of them. His presence had helped her remain calm and not panic she wasn't sure what would happen when he left.
"I should go." He says, pulling away from her shoulder laying a soft kiss before pulling her shirt back in place.
"What?" She says disappointed. He smiles softly, his hands running through her hair. "No, no." She pulls him back he kisses her forehead, she smells his neck unloosening his tie to be in his neck better.
"Gorgeous." He whispers, his hands running up her back. She gets the tie undone and her hands unbuttons the top buttons, kissing his neck, pulling him closer into her, none of it frantic but calm. She just needs to smell his skin, linger into it. His hands moving along her hips to her thighs and down her legs. "If you don't stop, I won't be able to cool off." His voice patient and soft. She closes her eyes kissing him along his lips and rests her forehead onto his chest breathing deeply. She wants to continue but she was still not ready, plus they were in the office. Stop teasing him.
"I will drive you." She kisses him on his neck and pulls back, he glares at her. "What?" She answers defensively to his quizzical look.
"Nothing just surprises me that's all." He grins as she buttons his shirt up again. She stops her hands looking at him frowning. "No, just you're so busy." He answers. She lays her hands on his hips as he ties his tie.
"Andy you and my children go before anything. Don't doubt that." She wipes his lips and chin where visible lipstick marks were left, grinning at the thought of being like this when only years before she did not get along with this man, that only months ago she was still a stickler for the rules. That she still was but somehow being this way with her Lieutenant was beside the point to her.
"I made the list." He smiles genuinely, straightening out his tie. She frowns and he realizes her confusion. "Well it was Rusty, Rusty, your children then Rusty. Now it's me, Rusty and your children." He holds her by the waist and kisses her tenderly her hands going to his cheeks instantly.
"It was always you too. But now I'm not willing to separate myself from you. I need you." She pulls him closer and lays her head into him. "Andy you smell so good." He hums in appreciation. There is a knock on the door. Sharon smiles straightening up then whispers. "Should we ignore it?" Andy grins.
"That would make so many fantasies come true." He answers, moving around the desk as she moves off of it, sitting in her chair.
"Come in." She calls out, fixing herself up.
"Captain. I need your signature." Sykes hands it to Sharon smiling at Andy, it was obvious they weren't in these positions previously, both of them still slightly out of breath, the gaze in both of their eyes.
"Thank you." Sharon takes it and looks at it. "Detective I'm leaving for an hour or so, if anything give me a call." Sykes nods, Sharon signs the papers and hands them back to her and she goes. Sharon and Andy gather there things and drive to the airport.
Do I drop you off curbside?" Andy nods as he looks through his phone, "or can I get down with you?" Sharon looks at him he looks up at her and sees her eyes almost begging him.
"Are you kidding me?" He takes her hand. "Please come down." She smiles as he kisses her hand.
Sharon parks the car and they walk hand in hand, Andy carrying a bag in his other hand. "Are you sure you'll be fine Sharon?" He turns to her as they enter the airport, causing those behind them to walk around. Sharon follows their angry remarks, giggling as she turns to face him meeting his soft glare. "Be honest. Are you sure you'll be fine?" His voice is soft, his fingertips running circles on her back.
Be honest. She repeats to herself. "I'm nervous," her voice honest her fingertips run under the sleeves of his shirt, her voice cracks. "I only feel safe when you're with me." He lets out a long breath putting down his luggage and holding on tightly to her. "I shouldn't tell you this." He was about to board and she knew this was only going to make it harder for him, she was being selfish.
"You should tell me this." He looks at her delicately. "I'll call Pope." He says determined, she shakes her head.
"No, you need to go. It's a good time, it'll happen sooner or later. And I need to be able to feel safe and be safe with myself again." Her voice is soft. He nods, not accepting it but he knew it was based on something her and her therapist had to have talked about. He had promised to let her recover at her pace.
"Just call me and I'll come back." He kisses her. "The team will be visiting you." Sharon smiles weakly, "don't worry they know it's me being over protective, I didn't say anything else." She smiles thankful that he wasn't talking about her paranoia and anxiety.
"Thank you." He buries himself into her hair, smelling her taking in her scent. She smiles knowing exactly what he was doing, trying to make the smell prolong. "Don't find yourself a waitress out there." She raises her eyebrows as he pulls himself out, she runs her hands along his face.
"I wouldn't even dream of it." He grins stopping her from kissing him, by pulling back, she pouts frowning. "You're jealous." She shakes her head in disbelief even though it had some truth. "I love it when you're jealous." He growls, making others look at him.
"Andy." She hides in his chest, laughing. He laughs with her. "We are too old for this." She lifts her head, shifting her hair out of the way.
"For what? He holds her tight. "Too old to love each other?" He smiles she returns it, kissing his nose like he had done so many times to her, he scrunches his nose she laughs. "It tickles." He admits almost as if finally realizing it. She nods grinning running her finger down his nose and kissing it again. He looks at her taking her in. "I should go through security."
She whimpers, pulling him closer, "Andy, my love." Her voice soft, she kisses him tenderly. "I'm going to miss you."
"Just a few days. Okay?" She nods. "I'm sorry." He shouldn't be leaving her, he keeps repeating this to himself.
She shakes her head. "No, don't apologize we both need to do this. And it is our job. I love you, be careful. And call me every night okay?" She lists out almost as of rehearsed.
"Every night." He promises, kissing her neck then her lips and bending to pick up the luggage his arm still around her waist, he straightens up and looks at her green eyes piercing into him. He lets out a long breath he knew that look it was the one she gave him when she felt lost and helpless. "Julio, said he'll stay the night and Provenza." She nods. He pulls her close and whispers in a strong voice, "if you need me to come back call me, if you need anything immediately call Louie or Julio." She nods tears forming in her eyes. "You'll be fine though, you're the strongest person I know." She smiles running her hands through his hair. "I love you."
He kisses her softly lingering into it. "Call me when you board and when you land." He nods walking away, he winks at her she smiles. She waits until she sees him cross security and lets out a deep breath. You're on your own again. The words make her shiver, it suddenly dawned on her how much she disliked the idea. She had lived an entire life alone and had grown accustomed but now that she had spent this time with Andy she realized how much she really needed him. She ponders the thought that she did have her children, she wasn't alone but that wasn't it anymore. She didn't need a man to be by her side, it was that she needed Andy. She slowly makes her way to the car and hears her phone ringing. "Captain Raydor."
"Captain we had a call about a body, thirteen year old boy. We are on our way to the murder room."
"Thank you Detective Sykes I'm on my way." She hangs up and gets in her car quickly. She arrives at the murder room minutes later the team setting up the board. "Do we have any leads?"
"His sister is missing, she's eighteen possibly the last person that saw them alive."
"Did we file a missing person, she could be targeted." Sharon offers quickly.
"Yes, the cops are out looking for her." Julio offers.
"Good." Sharon's phone rings, "one second." She holds up a finger walking to her office. "Hi are you boarding?" She asks Andy as she sets her things down.
"Yes, I am on the plane." She can hear his smile. "Did you get home yet?"
"No, we have a case." She looks out into the murder room.
"If it runs late have someone drive you." Sharon smiles. "I'll call you when I land. Love you Beautiful."
"Love you too." She hangs up the phone, letting out a frustrated sigh. She walks back out and sees everyone hurriedly putting on their jackets ready to move out.
"Captain, they found Nancy Frances, the sister." Sykes lets out quickly.
"Alive?" Sharon asks.
"We don't know." Provenza grumbles upset.
"Give me a minute." Provenza looks at Sanchez, as she goes to her office and comes back with her things.
"Captain. You haven't been cleared." Provenza says frustrated at himself, he didn't want to fight her but he could see a hesitation in her still, she wasn't ready.
"Stick with me Captain." Sanchez says, she nods. Provenza darts him a look. Sharon stares at him and he breaks quickly.
"Alright Captain, but don't disarm that weapon or get shot or we all get fired." Sharon smiles and nods at Provenza, moving out quickly with them.
Sanchez opens Sharon's door and helps her in moving to the driver side quickly. "We don't tell Lieutenant Flynn you partnered with me, or else he may blow up again." Sharon laughs as Julio starts driving.
"Julio, I'm so sorry about all of that." She watches as he turns on the patrol lights. "I don't think Andy feels the same way anymore, even though I never understood why he felt threatened, if that's what it was." She states honestly.
"He cares for you Captain." Sanchez answers shortly. "Someone you are used to having attention from gives it to someone else, no matter what kind of relationship it is. They'll be jealous." Sharon smiles. "He went crazy when Guerrero took you, I don't know what would have happened if it would have taken even longer to find you." Sharon lets out a deep breath, everyone had told her these words, but they were finally registering. Andy was as in love with her as she was, he needed her as much as she needed him. Sanchez stops the car. "Please stay back, you can't get hurt." He looks at her leaning to the back seat.
"I know a lawsuit and we all get fired." Sharon rolls her eyes teasingly.
Sanchez turns around and faces her seriously. "No, we need you safe." Sharon smiles weakly. "Vest, Captain." He gives her one and takes one for himself. "And stay here." He practically orders.
"Julio?" She wasn't going to use her weapon but she didn't want to sit in the car waiting.
"Captain." He says equally as forceful.
"Alright." She nods.
"I'll call you when we're cleared." He steps out of the car withdrawing his gun, Sharon lets out a deep breath, holding onto her cellphone tightly.
Andy lands in Texas and pulls out his phone ready to call a Sharon. "Lieutenant Flynn." The voice familiar he pulls his cellphone down and he turns around.
"Detective Kennish." He responds politely walking toward an attractive middle aged woman, smiling at the sight of Andy.
"It's been a long time Lieutenant." She extends her hand, Andy takes it.
"Yes a few years now, did you come for me or are you catching a flight to run away from the news that they sent me." Detective Kennish smiles, nodding.
"I see you still have the same sense of humor." She says softly. "Come on, I'm picking you up. The least I can do for you, since you're taking this jackass off our hands." Andy laughs, following her quick step.
Sharon sits still in the car, ready to get out when her phone rings and startles her. "If a phone is making you jump Sharon." She scolds herself for not staying back at her office. "Hello." She answers her phone still shaken up.
"You alright Beautiful?" Andy frowns as he slips into the car hearing a strain in her voice, Detective Kennish gives him a questioning look but he doesn't see it to, worried about Sharon.
"Yeah," she runs a hand through her hair seeing Sanchez wave her in, she gets out of the car still shaky. "You landed, you're on your way to the hotel?"
"Yes, Detective Kennish was kind enough to pick me up." The Detective smiles. Sharon looks up at the sounds of shouts. "Where are you?" He asks more worried, she didn't want to tell him she was out of the office it would worry him more.
"Working," she decides isn't lying. "I'll call you later, I'm glad you arrived safely." Her voice soft and careful. They say their goodbyes and Sharon walks to the screaming match that's going on. She finds Provenza arguing with an officer. "What's going on?" Her voice halts both of them.
"This officer, let the killer go." Provenza says through gritted teeth.
"He was not the killer. He, he."
"He what, fooled you? There is a dead body inside this house and one at the morgue. If there is another killing you'll be to blame!" Provenza shouts.
"Nancy is dead?" Sharon asks swallowing deeply in her throat.
"Yes and this idiot." The officer is ready to argue but Sharon holds up her hand. "Came to this house because the neighbors called in gunshots, he saw a man run out and questioned him claimed to be the owner. He thought he was honest and let him go, we got here minutes later to find this." Provenza gestures the officer and Sharon darts Provenza a look. "This brilliant officer." Provenza's words sarcastic. The officer shifts frustrated. "Was filling out a report when we got here saying everything was normal." Sharon looks at him.
"Ma'am everything was normal." The officer says annoyed.
"Except for the girl dead inside!" Provenza shouts. The officer leans into Provenza ready to hit him, Sharon splits them up.
"Look lady, this old man.." The officer begins making both Sharon and Provenza look at each other and frown angrily.
"Captain." Sharon stands straightly glaringly the officer down.
"Excuse me?" The officer looks at her confused.
"You will not call me ma'am or lady, I am Captain Raydor to you and this old man is Lieutenant Provenza, you better cooperate or I will make sure you are suspended permanently for this stupid error." The officer clears his throat and stands up straight.
"Yes, Captain Raydor I apologize." Provenza rolls his eyes at the officer.
"Now please tape off the crime scene." He nods walking away. "Lieutenant, I recommend you give directions here, I shouldn't be here. I'll wait outside so it won't affect the case, my presence." Provenza nods still frustrated walking inside, Sharon frowns turning around watching the officer in the distance begin taping off the crime scene.
"So this Beautiful, a wife?" Detective Kennish asks Andy.
"Hopefully," Kennish Laughs.
"Lieutenant Andy Flynn in love. I never thought I'd see the day." Andy smiles. "So who is she?" Andy stays silent. "Let me guess. Younger than thirty, blonde, superficial." Kennish
Stops and waits.
"Actually no." He smiles. "But that's my personal life, when do I get to fly this man back home?"
"Late the day after tomorrow at the earliest. We are finishing trial up. But he's going free. We weren't prepared, his lawyers got us. If you guys can't get him Arizona wants him." She reaches for a folder on the dashboard and Andy takes it. "You think you'll lock him up for life?"
"Absolutely." Andy grimaces at the pictures inside the folder. "It's mirrored to our folder." His voice angry.
"So I'm taking you to the hotel where you'll have a designated government car issued to you. And I have to go to court but my boss Chief Martinez will be waiting for you in about an hour downtown." They pull up at the hotel, Andy steps out quickly. Kennish does too. "I'm glad to see you Flynn, handsome like always." She smiles at him. "Maybe we can have dinner and we can talk about this woman you hope to marry." Her voice sarcastic, she holds out a hand and Andy shakes it as she gets back into her car, frowning at her words. He walks into the hotel, the room ready for him, they hand him the car keys they had left for him and he rides the elevator up.
Sharon gets back into the car with Julio once they are done investigating the scene. "How long is Lieutenant Flynn gone for?" Sanchez asks.
"He is not sure. It shouldn't be longer than two, three days." Sharon fidgets with her phone. "That's what Pope and a Detective Kennish explained to him."
"Marie Kennish?" Julio asks intrigued.
Marie. "I'm not sure, I've only heard Kennish." She suddenly has the urge to call Andy but stops herself. "Why do you ask Julio?" She looks as he takes a moment to answer.
"She worked for the LAPD a few years ago." He stops himself from continuing, Marie Kennish was in love with Andy Flynn and this was reason for her leaving Los Angeles. "Captain I'm taking you home and will pick you up in the morning, it's getting late I'll send you any information and call you once we know anything." She accepts her daughter would be leaving tomorrow she wanted to spend some time with her. But she couldn't help wonder why Sanchez was hesitating to talk about Detective Kennish.
Sharon goes up the elevator of her building thinking about Sanchez's tone of voice. Marie Kennish. I automatically assumed a man. She smiles at how absurd she sounds being slightly jealous of someone she didn't know and had no idea if this was the person with Andy. She walks out onto the eleventh floor and Rusty's security greets her. Marie Kennish. She repeats in her head. As she opens the door to her condo, hearing Kate and Rusty's laughter in the distance. It sends a happiness through her, she had never heard this sound come from Rusty she finds them in the kitchen cooking.
"Hey Sharon." Rusty smiles. "Kate looked up a recipe to make pizza but she is awful at following instructions and cooking." He laughs.
"Hey!" Kate exclaims, flour all over her. Sharon comes around smiling kissing Kate on the forehead.
"We told you she needed supervision Rusty." Sharon smiles giving Rusty a kiss on his forehead too. He smiles at her as she lingers next to him with her hand on his back looking at what he was making. "What can I do?" She asks stepping away to wash her hands.
"You can take over Kate's job, she's chopping vegetables, the dough is rising and I'm making the sauce." Sharon smiles as Kate hands her the knife.
"I didn't do that bad." She exclaims.
"Bean you are covered in flour." Kate looks at herself in the reflection of the microwave and laughs, Rusty too.
"I'll be back." She says walking out of the kitchen.
"Have you talked to Andy?"
"Yes he landed in Texas." Sharon's voice soft.
"Mom, can I sleep with you tonight, I think Rusty wouldn't mind having his bed back?" Kate walks back into the kitchen face washed.
"Yes, of course." Sharon finishes chopping and turns to her daughter. "I wouldn't mind the company either." Kate and Rusty look at each other smiling as Sharon turns to the fridge. Rusty had offered the idea knowing how hard it was for Sharon to sleep alone in the bed without Andy.
They spend their time laughing and cooking in the kitchen making the pizza together until Kate almost starts a fire and Rusty playfully tells her to stay away. Sharon puts the pizza in the oven and not long after the smell is overtaking the condo they finish the pizza not a slice left on the rack, together they clean up and sit together on couch watching a movie, Kate and Rusty at either side of Sharon. Sharon can't help but think of the name. Marie Kennish. What Andy is doing? And patiently waiting for his call.
Thank you for all the kind reviews and the patience all the views and messages, they make my day and encourage me to keep writing.
