Chloe J
Chloe J walked into her mother's house the next morning. She was immediately greeted with the sight of Maxie, Johnny, and Matt sitting in the living room together. It was kind of strange, considering Maxie and Matt hardly got along since he cheated on her with Elizabeth.
"Uh, hey guys." She came further into the room.
"Where did you get those clothes?" that, of course, came from Maxie.
"They're Emma's." Chloe J had a bag of her clothes from the party in her hands. She hadn't been home since Friday night when she left for the party and it was now Sunday.
"You could have come home to get some stuff, you know."
"Yeah, but I needed to be there for everyone else. It's my responsibility to take care of them."
"Why do you say that?" Matt wondered.
"Because I'm Chloe J Hunter. It's my job." She shrugged as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. "I'm gonna go take a shower."
"Actually, we need to talk to you." Maxie told her.
"Mom, I can't right now. I need to take a shower and change and then go pick up Selena. I volunteered to watch her for the day since Sam and Jason are still at the hospital with Mia and all the Morgan kids wanna go and Sellie will get freaked out if she sees Mia how she is."
"You've seen her?" Johnny asked. He had been with Olivia a long time ago, so he felt sad about her daughter getting hurt.
"No, but Emma, Zack, and Paige have and they said it was bad."
"How is she?"
"She got stitches in her back because she fell into glass, she's really bruised up, and she has a bruised rib, which lead to a lung infection, which is now pneumonia. They found out in the middle of the night and they're trying to get it under control. She's in a lot of pain."
"Oh my God." Maxie put her face in her hands. "It's so surreal. I've known her since she was a little girl, and now she's in the hospital because someone beat her. It just shows you how quickly things can change."
"Yeah." Chloe J nodded in agreement. "So, um, is Lukas here?"
"No, he's at Lucky's. Why?"
"Oh, just wondering. Maybe I'll stop by to see him."
"I thought you had to pick up Selena."
"I do, but I wanna see Luke. I want to tell him to make sure he's there for Brenna right now. She's really freaked out about the whole thing."
"Okay. But Chloe J, we still need to talk to you."
"About what?" she groaned, sitting down in a chair.
"The police don't think this is a random accident. They think Mia was targeted, based on how she was the only one attacked at the party and then the person left without bothering anybody else."
I know she was targeted, Chloe J thought to herself. She had Mia's phone tucked safely into her purse. She debated on telling them, but decided not to. She was supposed to go see Lukas so she could tell his father about the whole thing, so she would just wait until then.
"Do you know any reason why someone would be after her?" Matt wondered.
"No, not really. This is Mia we're talking about. She only really talks to our main little group of friends and that's it. I don't know how she could have made enemies."
"Would someone in that group want to hurt her?"
"Dad, it's me, Emma, Paige, Courtney, Zack, Nate, Maddie, Mia, Gabe, Brittany, Hunter, and Connor. Who in that group would be capable of hurting anyone? We've all grown up with each other. We would never turn against one another."
"I'm just saying, Chloe J. Things can happen that change kids' behavior. You were at a party with drinking, and most likely drugs. They could have been under the influence."
"Or it could have been some completely random person at the party that was 'under the influence' and decided to hurt her." Chloe J argued. "Besides, she was beat up really bad. None of us girls would have been strong enough to do damage to her like that. And you know Zack, Gabe, Connor, and Hunter wouldn't lay a finger on a woman, especially after what happened with Emma."
"What happened with Emma?" Maxie demanded. That's when Chloe J realized she had let out just a bit too much information. And that's the same time an idea hit her.
What if Joey had beaten Mia to get back at them for the boys beating him up? Another idea hit her.
Emma and Corey
"Do you think this will really work?" Emma asked Chloe J. They were sitting at a table inside of Kelly's, Selena on her big sister's lap.
"It has to." Chloe J sighed and stood up. "Trade?"
Emma handed Selena to Chloe J and Chloe J gave Mia's phone to her. They quickly hugged.
"Be careful, Chloe. This is tough enough for everyone with Mia in the hospital. We can't have another one of us in the bed beside her."
"I'll be careful." She assured her. "I'm gonna go to my house and try to lay low there. Plus, Leah's there and she's been really freaked out since it happened. I bet a movie day with her favorite sister will cheer her up."
Emma rolled her eyes. "Chlo, you and Leah barely get along. I doubt you're her favorite sister."
Chloe J just laughed. "Oh Emma. I'm everyone's favorite."
Emma smiled. "Bye Chloe J. Bye Sel."
"Bye Emma!" Selena waved to her.
"See you later Em. Love you."
"Love you too." Chloe J and Selena left. Emma put Mia's phone into her bag and walked out of the diner, going to her car. She got in it and drove to a house she hadn't been to in a long time.
She saw the familiar car and realized that the man she had once considered an uncle had had the same car for nearly ten years. Emma got out and went up to the front door, knocking on it hesitatingly.
After a couple seconds, it opened and she was greeted with the sight of the man who had done so much for her father's business years ago. "Emma Morgan. This is surprising."
"Hi, Spinelli." She smiled at him.
"Come in!" he ushered her inside. "Wow, you look just like Fair Samantha."
"You think so? I've never really thought that I look like either of my parents."
"I can see the resemblance." Spinelli told her. "How are you? What brings you to my humble abode?"
"I actually came to see Corey. Is he here?"
"Yes, he's upstairs. Go on up."
Emma suddenly hugged him. "I've missed you, Uncle Spinelli."
Spinelli grinned at the old name. He, Jason, and Sam had once been a lethal trio, taking down all the gangsters on the east coast. But then he met FBI agent Winifred Leads and it put a strain on their relationship. He had still been involved with them for a while, but a couple years after Corey was born, Winifred left to go on assignment and decided not to come back. Jason and Spinelli drifted apart and, by extension, so did their children.
"I missed you too, Dimpled One." Emma couldn't help but roll her eyes and smile at the extremely unoriginal name. She went upstairs and knocked on the door the boy had had for his whole life.
"Come in, Dad." She heard his voice call. She opened the door. "Well you're not my dad. Hey, Emma. It's nice to see you."
"You too." He shut his laptop and got up to hug her. "How are you? I know you must be stressed out with everything going on with Ashlyn and the baby. Congratulations, by the way."
"Thanks, but I don't even know what's going to happen. I'm not sure if she'll even keep it, let alone let me be involved."
"Would you want to?"
"Of course. It's my child. After everything that happened with Winifred, I would never abandon my kid."
"Good for you, Corey. I think that's something that you should be proud of."
Corey nodded his thanks. "Uh, not that I'm not glad to see you, but is there a reason you're here? It's not like we really talk that much anymore."
"I know, and I'm sorry for that. I really am." Emma pulled Mia's phone out. "I heard that you're following in your father's footsteps and you like a challenge."
"I certainly do." He grinned and opened his laptop. "What do you got for me?"
"You heard about Mia?"
"Yeah. How is she?"
"Not good. She has a bruised rib and it's messing with her lung. She has pneumonia now."
Corey grimaced. "I hope she gets better soon."
"We all do." Emma sat next to Corey on his bed. "If I tell you this, then you have to swear you won't tell anyone. This is private information, Corey. No one, not even your dad, can know."
"I swear. What is it?"
"Well, Chloe J, Courtney, and Nate went and looked around the woods the morning after the party. They found Mia's phone. Look at the last messages."
Corey read over them. "They're from an unknown number. Does Mia know who they are?"
"We haven't asked, she's been really sick and we don't want to overwhelm her. I'm guessing she doesn't though, since she asked them who it was. We think that this is the person who attacked her. Do you think you can find out who sent them?"
"I can try. When do you need to know by?"
"As fast as possible. Thank you so much, it means a lot."
"Emma, even though we've barely talked in years, I will always be here to help you."
"You know that I will too, right? And my brother and sisters."
Corey smiled at her. "I'll get to work right away."
"Thank you." She hugged him and left.
Morgan
Morgan ended the call when he got his girlfriend's voicemail. He and Lila Rae hadn't been spending much time together lately and he was starting to worry that something more serious was going on. Maybe she wanted to break up. Or maybe she was cheating. He decided to ask his most trusted relative (aka the only person home).
"Hey Joss?" he knocked on the door before entering his younger sister's room. "Can I ask you something?"
"Sure, Mo. What's up?" she closed the book she was reading (yes, Josslyn reads; she does have a degree in business) and sat up.
"Lila Rae has been really…distant…lately. I don't understand why. I don't think I did anything to make her mad, but she hardly answers my calls, and when she does, we don't really talk about anything like we used to." Josslyn was biting her lip, which was a telltale sign that she knew something. "What do you know?"
"I don't know what you're talking about." She opened her book again, but Morgan grabbed it and closed it.
"Josslyn, I've known you for all of the 22 years you've been alive. I can tell when you're lying."
"Fine." She sighed. "Jake and I were grocery shopping the other day and we saw Lila Rae talking to Spencer Cassadine. And then they were hugging and when she walked away, she was blushing. Morgan, I think Lila Rae is cheating on you with Spencer!"
Morgan thought it over for a second. Spencer and Lila Rae had dated for a little while in high school. It was a possibility that she could be cheating with him. His face hardened.
"Thanks for telling me." He stood up.
"Wait, where are you going?" she asked.
"Out. I'll be back later." Morgan grabbed his keys and walked out the front door.
Morgan decided to go to Kelly's to clear his mind. He walked up to the front door and saw Spencer sitting at a table with a brown haired girl that he didn't recognize. It made his blood boil, partly because Spencer was cheating on Lila Rae, and partly because he was worried about his cheating girlfriend's boyfriend cheating on her. He threw open the door and stormed inside.
"What do you think you are doing?" he demanded, staring Spencer down.
"Morgan, is something wrong?" Spencer asked, always the picture of manners.
"Yeah, something is wrong. And that something is the fact that you're seeing my girlfriend!"
The brown haired girl looked at Spencer in confusion. "Spencer? You have a girlfriend?"
"No, I have a girlfriend. Spencer is cheating with her." Spencer laughed, making both of them glare at him. "You think this is funny, Cassadine?"
"A little bit." Spencer smiled. "Let me explain. Morgan, this is Violet Mir, Violet, this is Morgan. He's dating a girl named Lila Rae, who I consider a good friend. Lila Rae knows that I've been having some trouble with dating lately and offered to set me up on a dating site, which is the one that I found you on." Spencer said, grinning at his girlfriend.
"So, Lila Rae was setting you up with another girl?"
"Exactly."
Morgan sighed. "Well, this is awkward. Nice to meet you, Violet. Spencer." He walked out.
The Quartermaines
"Grandfather, I don't understand why you can't just split the company between Lila Rae and I." Michael asked Edward as they walked down the hallway towards the conference room.
"Michael, I have made my decision and I will not be persuaded unless it is by Madelyn herself." They got to the conference room and opened the door.
Usually, the room was full of talking and laughter from the various family members. Today, everyone was silent. Edward looked them over.
Lila Rae was at one end of the table with her IPhone in her hand, checking over her schedule. Her younger sister, Grace, was next to her and had a math book out and was doing homework. Next to her was their brother, Trevor, who was looking at something on his phone.
Next to Trevor was AJ's son Julian, who was having a quiet conversation with Dillon's two sons, Jamie and Tanner.
Michael's daughters Carrie and Taylor were both texting, though they weren't gossiping like they usually would.
Nattie and Katie were silently sitting next to each other, both of them staring into space. Next to Nattie was Paige, who was next to Emma. They were quietly whispering back and forth.
Michael took a seat and that's when Edward noticed that there were two empty spots at the table. Normally, every chair was full.
"Where are Gabriel and Madelyn?" he demanded, looking pointedly towards the Morgans, Paige, and Nattie.
"GH." Emma answered.
"And why is that?" Edward boomed. "If my great grandchildren are hurt and no one told me, I will…"
"They're fine, Grandfather." Paige interrupted. "It's Mia."
"Sweet little Mia Webber?" the others nodded. "What happened to the child?"
"Some punk beat her up." Tanner spat angrily. Emma and Paige shared a look; before, they had been considering that it was him, but he had been acting pretty upset over the whole thing, so they weren't sure anymore.
"Oh wow." Edward shook his head. "It just goes to show you that even children aren't safe anymore in this world of violence and hatred. When my time comes and I'm with my Lila, I will be praying for the rest of you to live safely."
"Thank you, Grandfather." Nattie said, mostly because she didn't know what else she could say to that. Edward sighed and took his seat.
"I know it's Sunday, but this meeting couldn't really wait. The doctors say that my medication just isn't cutting it for my heart anymore and they don't know how long I'll be here." A few of the kids gasped. "Now, don't you worry about me. I'm just glad to be with my Lila. But when my time comes, I want to be sure that all of my great grandchildren," he looked at Taylor and Carrie, "and great-great grandchildren are taken care of. That is why I have started college funds for each of you. You will not be able to access them until you are 18, which isn't too far away for some of you." He glanced at Emma, Paige, and Jamie. "I will be updating my will to make sure that everything goes where I want it too, including the possession of ELQ to Madelyn, though she isn't here. Emma, I trust that you will relay all of this information to your brother and sister?"
"Yes, Grandfather."
"Very well then. I have some documents that I need signatures on. I'll pass them around." He started to pull papers out of his various folders and passed them around the table, having the appropriate children sign. Before long, the meeting was over.
"I can't believe that his medicine isn't working anymore." Emma said as she, Paige, Nattie, and Katie walked out. "It won't be the same without Grandfather."
"I'm surprised he even lived this long. He's had a good life though. He'll finally be with Grandmother and we all know that will make him happy." Paige replied.
"Emma!" Carrie ran over. "How's Mia?"
"Not so good. She had to get some stitches and she bruised one of her ribs, which is making it harder for her to breathe and that gave her a lung infection, which turned into pneumonia."
"That's horrible. Are we still going to have practice tomorrow? Maybe we could make some cards or something."
Paige's face lit up. "I've got a better idea."
The Hospital
"You should go home and get some rest." Jason told his only son, who was standing outside of Mia's room. He hadn't been home since the accident and hadn't slept.
"I'm fine." Gabe stated, staring straight ahead.
"You've been here for two days, Gabe. You've only had the crappy cafeteria food and you haven't showered or eaten. Mia's asleep right now. You can go for a little while. Besides, Maddie, Connor, and Brittany are here. You guys can leave in shifts."
"No."
Jason knew that he would be doing the same thing if he was in Gabe's shoes, but he couldn't stand watching his son like this anymore. "Gabriel, you need to go."
"No, Dad. What if something happens while I'm gone? I'll never forgive myself."
"Nothing will happen. Robin's been pumping her with medication and it's helping. She's going to be okay, Gabe."
"But what if she's not? What if she suddenly takes a turn for the worst and she dies? I can't lose her. I'm not leaving until she does."
"Hey." Brittany came over with two coffees in her hands. "Hunter's here. He made a coffee run. I brought you one."
"Thanks." Gabe took the coffee from his friend.
"See, now Hunter's here too. Gabe, you need to take a break." Jason told him. "Brittany, help me out here."
"Gabe, your dad's right. You've been awake this whole time, besides the ten minutes you slept right before they found out about the pneumonia. If you're not okay, then you can't be okay for Mia. She would want you to rest."
"But I can't, Britt. I can't just leave her there. I'm her best friend. I was supposed to protect her. I didn't protect her from this, but I will protect her from anything else."
"She doesn't need to be protected right now! We're in the hospital, Gabe. Jason's right here and so are Maddie, Connor, Hunter, and I! We can watch out for her so you can go rest for a little while and be better for her."
Gabe still didn't look like he was listening, so Jason decided to take the tougher approach. "If you don't go home and rest, then I'm not letting you miss school tomorrow."
"Okay. I'll just skip."
"I'll take your car."
"Oh well. I'm already here and this is where I want to be."
"You'll be grounded in your room."
"I'll get out and you know I will. There's nothing you can say or do to make me leave her." Gabe turned and looked through the window at his best friend. "I promised her that I would keep her safe. That I would always be there for her. I didn't honor that promise."
Connor overheard the last part as he came around the corner. "Jason, could you give us a minute?"
"Yeah." Jason walked towards the conference room where Maddie and Hunter were.
"Gabe, there's no way you could have protected her." Connor said. "Court just called me. Apparently, she, Nate, and Chloe J found Mia's phone and looked at her messages. She had some from an unknown number saying that 'it was going to happen tonight' and when Mia asked who it was, they said that was for them to know and her to find out. They told Emma, Zack, Brenna, Hunter, and Paige and they think that Mia was targeted."
"Are you serious? Where's the phone? I want to see the messages."
"Courtney told me to tell you that you need to go home and talk to Emma. She has some stuff she needs to tell you. You should go there, get a shower and some decent food, talk to Emma, and sleep for a little bit. I'll stay right by Mia's bed."
Gabe knew now that he had to go home to find out what was going on. "Fine. I'll be back in a couple of hours. Britt, you should go home too. Some of us need to go to school tomorrow."
"Gabe, I can't go back knowing that Mia's stuck in this place."
"Brittany, we can't all skip. You and Hunter should go tomorrow. Connor, you too."
"No way." Brittany nodded in agreement.
Gabe sighed. "Whatever, I can't argue with you all. But the only way I'm going home to rest is if you go home for a little while too, Brittany. And Connor, you have to too when I get back."
"Deal." They both agreed. Connor went into Mia's room while Gabe and Brittany went to the conference room.
Hunter looked at them expectantly. He could tell by his sister and friend's faces that Connor had told them what Courtney said.
"I'm gonna take Britt home and then go home for a little bit. I'll be back later."
Maddie stood up and wrapped her arms around Gabe's neck. "I wanna know everything you find out." She whispered.
"I'll tell you as soon as I know." He replied quietly before going back to his normal voice. "I want you to stay in Mia's room with Connor. Don't go anywhere alone."
"I won't."
Gabe kissed Maddie's forehead and they separated. He nodded towards Hunter and then Jason. He and Brittany got onto the elevator together.
"I'm assuming that Zack will tell you this as soon as you get inside, but don't do anything stupid, Brittany. Stay close to people. Sleep in Brenna's room tonight or something."
"Do you think someone is trying to attack all of us?" Brittany's voice was more panicked then she wanted it to be.
Gabe grabbed her hand and squeezed it in reassurance. "I don't know, but if they are, I want to be ready." They went to the parking garage and got in Gabe's car.
Brittany
Brittany waved goodbye to Gabe before going into her house. She glanced at the clock and saw that it was nearly 10:30pm. She wasn't planning on going to school tomorrow.
"Hello?" Claudia called out from the kitchen.
"It's just me." Brittany replied. Claudia came into view a minute later with a plate of food, which was undoubtedly cooked by Sonny.
"Hey. How's Mia?"
"Doing better. The medication seems to be working."
"That's good. We saved you a plate from dinner and I warmed it up for you."
"Thanks." Brittany sat on the couch and took it from her, starting to eat. "Hey Claudia, are there any guards here?"
"Mmhmm. For some reason, Zack asked your dad if he could increase guards. He said he would feel better after everything that happened with Mia. It's crazy that someone could beat a little girl like that."
"Yeah." Brittany agreed, silently thanking her older brother for his overprotective nature.
"Are you going to go back to the hospital?" Claudia asked after a couple minutes of comfortable silence.
"Not right now. I'm gonna shower and try to sleep for a little bit. Gabe finally agreed to go home and he said he would text me when he's on his way back to the hospital. I'm gonna drive separate, but I want to try to go back when he does so Connor and Maddie have a chance to go home."
"You're not going to school tomorrow?"
"I don't really want to. It just won't feel right without Mia."
"You're a good friend, Britt." Claudia went over and pressed the buttons for the alarm system. She kissed her stepdaughter's forehead. "I'll see you tomorrow, okay? Try to get some rest."
"I will. Love you."
"Love you too." Claudia went upstairs at the same time Jazzie and Lola came down.
Brittany looked at her younger sister and stepsister. "Hey guys."
"Hi." Jazzie smiled at her. "Is Mia okay?"
"She's doing better."
"Are we still going to do cheer tomorrow?" Lola wondered.
Brittany hadn't even thought about that. "I don't really know, I haven't talked to anyone. Usually, Emma would make us cheer through sun, hail, rain, and snow, but this is serious and Emma thinks family stuff like this is a big deal. Why don't you just text her?"
"Cause that's weird!"
"Why is it weird? Lola, you've known Emma since you were born."
"Yeah, but she's Emma Morgan. She's the most popular girl in school. It's kind of intimidating."
Brittany could see how Lola would say that, but she just didn't see Emma that way. "I'm sure she'll let you know tomorrow."
"Okay. Well we're gonna get a snack."
"Kay. See you guys tomorrow."
"Bye." Jazzie and Lola went into the kitchen while Brittany went upstairs. She went to her room and quickly showered and got dressed in a pair of yoga pants and a white tank top. She threw her hair into a messy bun and walked down the hallway.
"Bren?" she opened the door to her sister's room. Brenna was laying on her bed watching a movie. Brittany walked in further and Brenna automatically scooted over. She layed next to the fifteen year old.
"Britt?"
"Hmmm?"
"I'm scared."
Brittany hugged Brenna. "Don't be. It'll be okay. The police will find out who did this and arrest them. Zack got Dad to put more guards on the house."
Brenna just snuggled further into her. After a little while, she fell asleep. Brittany got out of the bed, carefully detangling herself from her younger sister, and walked across the hall to her brother's room. Zack was, unsurprisingly, wide awake and talking on the phone. He smiled at her when she walked in.
"Babe, I promise you don't have to worry about anything. Your dad has got all kinds of protection around the island…I know it's a big house, but your brothers and Nattie are there too…tomorrow, you can come stay here then if that will make you feel safer…okay, I love you too…bye." Zack hung up. "Paige is freaking out about this whole thing."
"So is Brenna. I wish you guys wouldn't have said anything while she was in the room." Brittany sat on his spinning chair for his desk. "Mia's doing better. Robin is giving her medicine and the one she has now really seems to be helping. They're hoping she'll recover in the next couple of days."
"That's good. Emma told me that her parents pretty much abandoned her."
"Yeah. It sucks, but she knows that we're all going to be there for her." She sighed. "Gabe finally went home. Connor told him that Courtney said he needed to talk to Emma. Can you update me on what's going on?"
Zack nodded and started to explain.
Gabe and Emma
Gabe stared into the mirror at himself after his shower. He had bags under his eyes and looked pale from not sleeping. He knew he needed to rest, but right now, he wanted to know what Emma had to tell him.
He quickly pulled on some boxers, a pair of basketball shorts, and a t-shirt and went down the hallway to his older sister's room. Emma looked as if she was waiting for him. She was sitting on her bed watching the TV, which was really quiet. When she saw him, she turned it off.
Gabe sat next to her. "So, what's going on with the phone and all that?"
Emma raised her eyebrow. "You sure jump to the point."
"I'm tired, Em. Can you just tell me so I can sleep and then go back to the hospital?"
"I took Mia's phone to Corey this afternoon."
"Corey? Corey Spinelli?"
"Yep. He is into computer hacking and all that stuff, like Spinelli. He's going to try and find out who sent it. We're thinking that whoever sent her the text is who attacked her."
That's when Gabe remembered something. "Oh my God."
"What?" Emma asked.
"You remember how Connor, Britt, Maddie, Mia, and I went out the day Mia got kicked out?" Emma nodded. "Mia got a text from an unknown number and thought it was from us."
"What did it say?" Emma demanded.
Gabe thought about it for a second. "The first one said 'I'm watching u.'. She asked them who it was and they said they were coming for her. She said they had the wrong number and they said 'Mia Webber. U r 1st'.We thought it was just someone playing a prank, but now it sounds like this freak was planning this out."
"Corey will track it and find out who did this, Gabe. We won't let them get away with hurting her."
"Oh I know, Em. Whoever did this is gonna pay." Emma had never seen her little brother look so angry, besides when he found out Joey hit her.
Emma had nearly forgotten about Joey's message saying that he would get her back for telling. She considered telling Gabe, but one look at him told her that he had enough on his mind.
"Can you sleep in here tonight? This whole thing is freaking me out."
"Yeah, sure." Gabe reached over and turned the light off. "Night, Em."
"Night, Gabey. Love you."
"Love you too." They went to sleep.
