A/N: Was this too quick of an update? lol Enjoy..
"Fitz? What are you doing here?" Stephen looked out the door behind him as he walked in. "Where is Liv?"
"I needed to talk and she is at home." Fitz walked in and sat at the bar in the kitchen.
"You left her at home?" Stephen grabbed a water and handed it to Fitz.
"Do you have anything stronger?"
"I do but you don't need it. What the hell is going on?"
"It's Liv..she is pushing me away Stephen and it is pissing me off. I am trying to be patient with her but she shuts me down on everything."
"What do you mean pushing you away? You guys have been home less than twenty-four hours. Surely that is not enough time for her to do that."
"This morning she woke up with a bad dream and from then on she has been different and distant. I asked her about it and she completely blew me off." Fitz said angrily. "Then Jake and Abby stopped by and she is talking to that douche like it was the easiest thing in the world and when I walk in she acts like I am interrupting something. When I ask her about her attitude again she says she doesn't want to talk to me of all people!"
"What did I tell you when you invited him there Fitz? Not saying that Liv is going to step out on you but she is vulnerable right now and in her mind Jake is the reason she is alive. She may feel like she owes him something or like she has some sort of connection with him now. You already know that I don't trust him."
"I don't trust him but I have to trust her. He didn't seem to have a agenda at the hospital when we talked but now I don't even know. I can believe this shit." He says slamming his hand down on the counter.
"Calm down Fitz, what did you say to her after she said she didn't want to talk?"
"Nothing. She told Abby and Jake that she didn't feel well and they left then I grabbed my stuff and left. She asked me to stay but since she still refused to talk to me I left anyway."
"Do you hear yourself?" Stephen said shaking his head. "She is pushing you away in your opinion and instead of staying you leave? Doesn't that sort of help her cause?"
Fitz sat and thought about what Stephen was saying for a minute. He was right, he should have stayed and made her talk to him. Communication, hadn't that been what their marriage counselor had been preaching this whole time?
"What am I supposed to do if she doesn't want to talk to me?"
"If she doesn't want to talk then you talk. Tell her about the obvious guilt you are feeling from not being there, about how it makes you feel when she blocks you out. You may not be able to force her to talk but you can force her to listen."
"Thanks Stephen."
"For what?"
"For listening to me rant, not allowing me to come over and drink like a idiot and for always giving me the best advice." He stood and walked to the door. "I appreciate it."
"No problem Fitz, go take care of our girl."
He nods and leaves.
"Huck, its Fitz."
"What is it."
"Liv said she got a weird feeling from the detective that stopped by the house. Can you look into him?"
"I'm already on it."
"Ok, thanks." Fitz pressed the end call button on his steering wheel and continued back towards his house.
"Liv?" He called out when he got inside.
He walked from room to room looking for her. She was nowhere to be seen. When he got to their room he pulled out his phone as he sat on the bed and started to dial her number when he noticed the bathroom door was closed. He got up and walked over to the door and was locked but it wasn't pushed all the way closed. He pushed it open and walked inside looking around when he saw Olivia leaned against the wall with a small blanket and her iPad sleep. He didn't know what to think.
"Livvie." He said softly not wanting to startle her. "Livvie, let me help you into bed."
"Fitz? You came back." She said sleepily.
"Of course I did." He said with a small smile. "Take my hand."
He started to pull her up but stopped when she winced in pain. "Are you ok? Did you take your medicine?"
"No I didn't." She said quietly.
"Why not and why are you in here?" He asked looking around.
"After you left I got this feeling like someone was here and it freaked me out so I came in here and locked the door. I started to feel my medicine wear off but I was to afraid to go get it off the nightstand. Then I guess I drifted off..now you are here."
"Liv..why didn't you call me?"
"You said if I didn't want to talk you didn't want to be here and I wasn't sure if you would come back because of my silly fears." She said looking away.
He felt like a ass for leaving because she wouldn't talk to him and not listening when she was asking him to stay because she was afraid. He missed the sign that she was giving him right in front of his face. She was afraid and he left her alone.
"I would have come back. I'm sorry I left when you asked me to stay. You were here all alone in the bathroom scared and I'm somewhere pissed off because you wouldn't talk to me..How fucking dumb am I?" He stood up and punched the wall. He was so mad at himself.
"Can you calm down, it's ok, I'm ok.."
"It's not ok!" He yelled. "Do you know awful I felt when I saw that you had been attacked on the news Olivia? To know that I wasn't able to be with you immediately because I was on the opposite coast dealing with my little brother? I was supposed to protect you and.." He felt tears stinging his eyes. "..and if I had been here you wouldn't have even been in that damn garage because I would have picked up your mother like I always do. So no it is not ok, this whole thing is my fault and I know you blame me too. I can see it in the way that you look at me, the way you're pushing me away, the way that you won't talk-"
"Enough." She said loudly cutting him off. He looked down at her surprised to hear her voice. "Come here."
He grabs the small towel from the ring hanging by the mirror and wrapped it around his hand that was now dripping blood and sat down next to her.
"I'm sorry." She holds up a finger when he starts to say something. "I didn't mean to push you away but it's hard to put what I am feeling into to words and to express the confusion and anger that is running through my mind right now. I don't blame you for any of this, you were right I did remember something and I'm scared to death of how you might take it."
"You can tell me Livvie, whatever it is was probably in the heat of the moment."
She took a deep breath and decided to tell him. "I remember looking up at the guy I must have fallen down or he knocked me down, it wasn't clear. He asked me a question and I remember giving him a smirk of some kind and saying I don't know what you're talking about and it pissed him off and he punched me in the face then lifted his leg to kick me. Then I begged him not to before everything went black again."
"Liv.."
"No Fitz you don't have to say anything. I was completely reckless and by pissing that guy off I could have gotten myself and the baby killed. I don't know why I did it but I hope you won't hold it against me."
"What you did was reckless but you don't know that that was the only thing that made him go off. We don't know what his motives were Liv. I'm not holding anything against you." He grabbed her hands kissing them softly. "I want you to talk to me, please continue to talk to me and not shut me out."
"Thank you for not getting mad. I had worked myself so much over this that I was convinced that I couldn't talk to you." She said looking up at him.
"But you thought you could talk to Jake?" He had to ask to make sure she didn't think that she needed to talk to anyone else but him.
She rolled her eyes and looked away. "That is not what I was doing..we weren't talking about anything."
"Then what were you doing?"
"Stop. Is that what this was about? Me talking to Jake? He saved my life Fitz, am I not supposed to be able show my gratitude?"
There it was. The words he had been dreading to hear come out of her mouth. Jake saved her. Another man was there for her when he wasn't. How was he supposed to take that? He couldn't be angry and tell her that she should show gratitude but only in his line of vision because he was jealous. Could he?
"Don't do that." She said breaking him from his thoughts.
"Let's get you off of this floor and get you your medicine." He said looking around the bathroom and not acknowledging her last words.
"Fitz look at me." He turned his head towards her. "I love you and only you. I do not blame you for this. Okay?"
He nods and she leans up and gives him a kiss.
He helped her up and walked her to the bed. She took her medicine and laid down on her side facing him.
"Do you think we could go somewhere tonight? I want some fresh air, I feel like I have been caged up long enough."
He kneeled next to the bed and rubbed the side of her face. "I think it is a little too soon to be seen out and about here in DC." Her face drops. "What do you think about going somewhere else after your appointment for peanut on Thursday? We can stop by and see the doctor and see how you have healed this week before we go just to make sure."
"Really Fitz?" She said smiling.
They hadn't been on a vacation in forever and since she was medical leave from work she might as enjoy some of here time off.
"Yes Livvie. Where do you want to go?" He kissed her forehead. "Anywhere it is your choice."
"Rio? It's Spring there right now isn't it?" She said nervously biting her lip. The weather in DC was getting cooler and cool as Winter approached and she wanted to get one last glimpse at warm weather before she had to start wearing her big over coats and scarfs.
"When I said anywhere I really meant somewhere within the United States." He said laughing.
"Oh.."
"Hey it's fine though. We have the time right? I will work hard from here to prepare for my class for next week and drop it with my TAs before we leave on Friday."
"So we are taking a trip?" She asked smiling.
"We are taking a trip."
The rest of the week was uneventful. Olivia had been a little disappointed when Harrison called and said that he had to go back to NYC on an emergency and wouldn't be able to come visit. He promised to come by when they got back in town from their trip. They were keeping the details of their travel location secret with the exception of a few people because they still weren't too sure who they could trust. Now it was Thursday morning and they were waiting on Detective Cole to show up because he had some follow up questions for Olivia regarding the incident.
"Fitz, can't this wait until we get back? I don't feel like discussing this anymore." She sighed.
"Liv, we can't let it get out that you aren't cooperating with the police plus it may tip off whoever did this that we have other people looking into if you don't at least pretend that you are working with them."
"We really need to talk to the police department about getting someone else on the case then. I don't want to talk to this guy."
"I know, can you please play nice until Huck gives us a update?" He said as he sat down next to her on couch.
"I don't need Huck to tell me what I can already feel." She said rolling her eyes.
"Hey don't give me attitude it was just a suggestion." He said against her cheek before kissing it.
"You're right. I'm sorry."
Knock. Knock.
They both look at the door.
"I'll grab it." Fitz stood and walked to the door. "Hello again Detective Cole, please come in."
"Nice to see you again Mr. Grant."
They walked over and Fitz sat down next to Olivia and the Detective sat in the chair across from them.
"Ms. Pope. How are you feeling?"
"I am well Detective. I do have a appointment that I need to get to soon though, if you don't mind skipping the pleasantries and getting to the point that would be great." She said coldly.
"Right, I didn't mean to..nevermind. I wanted to follow up and see if you had remembered anything from the attack?"
"I haven't remembered anything yet. I'm sure when you left on Monday you said to call if I had remembered anything and I am positive that I didn't give you a call. Did you Fitz?" She turned to Fitz.
"Nope."
"If neither one of us called you to give you a update why are you really here?" Olivia asked cocking her head to the side a bit looking at him suspiciously.
"I'm going to be honest with you Olivia. Can I call you Olivia?" He didn't wait for confirmation before he continued. "So Olivia, everyone down at the department believes that you have someone else on the side looking into what happened to you and we want to know who so that we can tell them to stand down."
Olivia chuckled, she didn't mean for it to come out as heartily as it did but she couldn't help it. "Nice try Detective. Did you really think that you could walk in here with that sad line and I would give you all the information that you wanted? I am injured but I am still Olivia Pope and I can spot a rat from a mile away. So go back and tell your boys or whoever you are working for that I will not stop until I bring down them and everyone that is working for them, including you." She stood and walked to the door opening it for him to leave. "Get your house in order Detective."
"Trust me Olivia, you don't want to go this route." He said standing in front of her when he got to the door.
"Good bye Detective."
He nodded and walked out.
She slammed the door and walked back to Fitz.
"It's so sexy when you do that." He said standing in front of her with his hands on her waist.
"Do what?"
"Call someone out on their bullshit and shut them down bringing them to their knees." He leaned down and kissed her. "So fucking sexy." He breathed onto her lips.
"Mmm..the only person I want to bring to their knees is you." She smiled and licked his lips. "We should go."
He nodded. "We should go."
"Was it really necessary for them to follow us in here?" She asked motioning to the body guards that were standing by the door.
"Yes and get used to it because the will be with us from now on." He said placing his arm around her.
"Olivia Pope." The nurse called from the back.
They walked to the back with their bodyguards in tow. Olivia was nervous about seeing the baby. Yes everything checked out at the hospital but she was nervous that they may have missed something and the baby might be hurt.
"How are you doing today Ms. Pope and Mr. Grant?" The doctor asked when he walked in.
"I've been better." Olivia said as she leaned back on the examination bed.
"Sorry to hear about what happened to you. I will make this quick."
"Thanks."
"Oh wow." The doctor said when he saw her bruised skin when she lifted her shirt to give him access to her stomach.
"It looks worse than it feels. I took my medicine before I came so you don't have to worry about hurting me. I can't feel a thing." She said with a smile to give him extra reassurance.
"Ok."
He placed the cool blue ultrasound gel on her stomach and started examining the baby. After about ten minutes he was done with his exam. He wiped her stomach off and had her sit up so that he could talk to them both.
"Everything looked good and the baby is growing on schedule. Olivia will be three and a half months the next time you visit and you will be able to find out the sex of the baby if you are interested in knowing."
"We are." Fitz said brightly.
"Yes we are." Olivia said intertwining their fingers.
"I will put that in notes for next time. If you don't have any questions for me, the nurse will be in with some pictures for you." He stood and shook their hands before leaving.
"I can't wait to find out. I know it's going to me a little girl." Olivia said smiling.
"You want to bet on that?"
"Yes but what do I get when I win?"
"Ha, ha. Really funny. The winner gets...umm I will have to think about it a little more." He said as he helped her and put his arm around her as they walked out. "Right now though, lets go make sure everything is good on campus before we finish packing for tomorrow."
The TA's from Fitz' class were waiting outside of his classroom when they arrived. He greeted them then unlocked the door letting them in.
"Thanks for coming everyone. I will keep this short. You all know that Professor Smith is taking over my class while I am home with my wife until she is completely healed. I wanted to give the class plans directly to make sure that there was no disconnect from what I gave him and what you received. I like Professor Smith but we have two different teaching styles." He handed each one of them a folder with the printed plans. "Read over these and email me if you have any questions or suggestions."
They nodded an started to leave. Mellie hung around after everyone left.
"Oh my God Olivia. I am so glad that you are ok." Mellie said as she hugged her. "Stephen and I were so distraught over the news."
"Uhh thanks Mellie." Olivia said as she stepped back from Mellies embrace.
"And Fitz, how have you been?" She said hugging him.
Fitz was caught off guard and he gave her a half hug in return. He could feel Olivia's eyes fixed on the side of his head.
"I've been good Mellie. I would like to catch up but we are actually pressed for time right now." He said walking over and grabbing Olivia's hand.
"Oh ok. Well I hope you feel better Olivia and I can't wait until you come back to school full time." She said smiling in Fitz' direction before leaving.
He looked at Olivia and she rolled her eyes.
"What?" He asked as they left the school.
"You know what."
"She was just happy to see us."
"You can't be that blind Fitz but whatever you say." She said laughing.
"I don't have any idea what you are talking about." He said as he grabbed her hand and kissed it. "It doesn't matter though because we are going on vacation on a private beach in Rio baby!" He yelled excitedly.
"Rio baby!" Olivia repeated with the same enthusiasm.
