Luckily for me, I had at least one of my family members in each of my classes, aside from one. Of course, since it was the first day of the school year for everybody, there was no homework aside from getting some papers signed and meeting some new people. I was overwhelmed, firstly, by all of the heartbeats and scents near me. I had never been in a place with so many humans. My throat did not feel any ache, however, as the simple idea of drinking from a human made me feel almost sick- I didn't like the idea of hurting any humans, even if it meant good blood.

I made it until my fourth class, just before lunch, before anybody had actually spoken to me. Jasper was in the Biology class with me, seated just a few rows across from me. I was sure that my being there had probably helped him keep self control, as it was still somewhat difficult for him. I was too busy thinking, taking in the surroundings and the people. I was writing a few notes, although I did not need to, as I would remember every detail, but I wanted to keep the 'human' act perfect. I almost jumped as a slightly-cooler-than-me finger tapped me on the shoulder from behind. I turned around just slowly enough to meet eyes with a human girl. She had medium, straight, honey blonde hair that went to just about her collarbones and big blue eyes. She was tanned and had lots of makeup and perfume on, almost causing me to scrunch my nose at the harsh scent, but I resisted the action. I could hear her usual human heartbeat- healthy and normal paced.

"Hey! You're new, right?" she questioned, chewing on gum. I nodded, smiling in response.

"Yeah," was all I said, noting a few of the boys turning to look in my direction as I spoke with this girl.

"I'm Lucy," she smiled, seeming to force the expression. Luckily, I was safe to use my real name if I wanted to, which I did. It felt weird to use another name for myself. We had tossed around the idea of me going by another name that could produce the same "Nessie" nickname- Vanessa, or using my middle name, but I much preferred my real name.

"Renesmee," I smiled softly, nodding again. "Nice to meet you." She seemed confused for a moment.

"Renee..?" I giggled softly.

"Ruh-nez-may," I pronounced slightly slower. She rolled her eyes, laughing loudly.

"Ohh!" She drew out the sound. "I got'cha. Anyway, do you have any plans for where you're gonna sit at lunch?" I shrugged.

"Probably just with my siblings," I responded, seeming to catch more of her attention. I could see in her expression that she seemed to be almost trying to analyze me, or at least my appearance and personality.

"You have siblings? How many?" Lucy questioned, suddenly intent on knowing all of the basic details on my life. She seemed so shocked that I had six adopted siblings, understandingly so. Not many people had that many, if any. She asked my birthday, which was still September eleventh, only the year was different- 1995, to fit with my apparent age. My favorite animal was wolves, which was a favorite that Lucy shared with me. I was sure that my dad could hear that thought and was chuckling from across the school.

After Lucy had finished quizzing me, we were dismissed from class and off to lunch. I brought an apple with me along with a mug of tea that Esme had insisted on making- and it was amazing. Some kind of energizing black tea with lemon and honey. I wasn't too hungry, having hunted the evening before. After taking my food from my locker, I was faced with a decision, but I had already decided on sitting with my family for my first day- plus, Jacob had wanted to call me on my cell phone (which I only really used to keep in contact with my family and Seth) from work. I made my way into the crowded room full of humans and a vast amount of human food, easily picking my family out from the crowd, seated at a table in the corner near the windows. Mom and dad seemed more excited than ever to see me- I hadn't had them in any of my classes in the morning, and I never liked being away from them for too long. I walked as quickly as a human should be able to to their table, taking the last empty seat between my parents. I remembered that I had to call them by their names and not use my gift, which felt very.. strange.

"Hey Bella," I glanced at my mom, trying to hide the awkward tone in my voice. It felt so wrong to call them by their first names. "Edward," I nodded at my dad and grinned as I took a sip of my tea. Emmett laughed loudly, as he always did, and I joined in with a giggle.

"You seem to have some boys already on your tail," Rosalie noted with a joking wink. I just rolled my eyes.

"Oh, I've noticed the glances in my direction already, don't worry," I chuckled, rolling my eyes.

"How's it going so far, Nessie?" Mom used my nickname affectionately, not able to opt for any of the pet names that my family had usually used for me. I smiled warmly at her golden eyes, which read nothing but love and care.

"Amazing," My eyes glanced at my dad, meeting his gaze. He had a content grin on his face, seeming proud. "It's so.." I had no words, I wished I could show them. "Different. Extraordinary, fun.." I trailed off. Mom chuckled.

"I bet it is. Y'know, I never imagined how different school'd be the second time around," she spoke quieter, not letting any humans hear. I just nodded. As Jacob slipped into my thoughts, my cell phone vibrated quietly, as if on cue. My face beamed as I pulled it out, seeing Jacob's name flash across the screen as I answered. Thankfully, cell phones were allowed at lunch, along with MP3 players, visible across the room as a majority of the students were on their phones and playing music- some so loudly that I could hear the base and reverb from across the room.

"Hey, Jacob!" I exclaimed, having been halfway through my lunch already. I could hear a chuckle through the phone, seemingly calm.

"Hey, Ness, how's school? You like it?"

"Yeah, actually, I love it! How's the job? I miss you," I spoke quickly, truly missing my Jacob. I wished that he could be there with me, but I knew that at least, we had plans to have one of our hunting games later. Jacob sighed.

"I miss you, too and, work isn't half bad, actually. The other guys are pretty cool, too."

As we talked, it was almost as if the rest of the chattering and music playing in the background was blurred into the background, and I was mainly focusing on my Jacob's voice and talking to him. I imagined if he was here with me so I could talk to him in person and see his beautiful chestnut brown eyes and his brilliant smile.

"Well, I have to head back to work, Ness, I'll see you as soon as I get home and we'll go hunting later, ok?" Jacob seemed to be trying to reassure me, knowing that it felt wrong to be away from each other. I felt bad that he only had a twenty minute lunch at work while I had one that was forty minutes long- I knew he ate a lot more than I did. I decided that I would surprise him by helping Esme make some form of dinner for him once he got home, even though we were going hunting in the evening. I smiled softly, although he couldn't see.

"Ok, Jacob, see you then." I hung up, although I did not want to. Mom put her arm around me for one quick moment, squeezing in a light hug, which I returned.

Mom, dad, and myself talked for the rest of lunch about the things that I would have normally preferred to show them; things like my current favorite subject, any new friends, my thoughts on school in general. They seemed excited to hear about how school was going for me, knowing how excited I was (and I still am) about being a student.

After lunch, I had two more peaceful classes, one which my mom was in, and one my dad was in. I had one last class, which was wood shop, that I had without any of my family. The entire room smelled like fresh sawdust and metal tools, along with some chemicals. We had to all wear safety glasses and would learn for a few days about the rules before touching any equipment. We were given a sheet to read over and left to have the last ten minutes of class to talk among ourselves. I was reading over the sheet that we were given when I noticed a smooth movement from in front of me and sudden hands on my desk. I glanced up, noticing one of the guys. Someone who I had heard and seen Lucy talking to at her lunch table.

"Hey, Renee, right?" He questioned. I giggled a bit- so that nickname would stick? I found it slightly funny that he picked my maternal grandmother's name of all of the possible ones to gather from that.

"Renesmee, actually," I said, sounding out each syllable. "You're Cameron?" I folded my arms on my desk in front of me, not paying attention to the paper anymore.

"Yeah, but you can call me Cam," he grinned at me. He had pretty blue eyes, which I hadn't seen until moving and being out in public more. His were a lighter blue, matching with his paler skin tone and light brown hair. "Nice to meet you, Renesmee," he held his hand out, which I shook, careful to shield my gift.

"You can call me Nessie, most of my family does." Cam laughed.

"You mean like that sea monster thing?" I rolled my eyes.

"Yeah, like the Loch Ness monster," I giggled with him.

"Airight, Nessie it is then-" the bell rang, sending us home and cutting Cam off mid-sentence.

"Well, I'll see you tomorrow then, Cam," I put my paper in my binder and stood from my seat, Cam doing the same.

"'Kay, nice meeting you, Nessie," he winked as he walked out first. I laughed softly, following him in leaving.

I gladly showed my parents how my day went on the ride home, including every detail and feeling that was more difficult to describe. I even showed them my idea to help grandma Esme cook dinner for Jacob.

"That sounds really nice, baby," mom squeezed my hand. "I'm sure Jake'll love that." I felt the blood rush to my cheeks in a slight blush. I did speak aloud then.

"It was so weird calling you by your names.." We all laughed.

When we got home, grandma helped me in the kitchen a bit as I made Jacob a steak, knowing how much he loved it- and medium rare, too. Esme was glad to ask me about my first day at school, telling me about how school was when she was my 'age'. It was nice to actually talk with grandma, as we didn't talk a whole lot, given that I spent so much time with either Jacob or my parents. Perfectly on time, Jacob walked in the door just as I sat his plate down, even garnishing it with a piece of basil like Esme had taught me to do. I snacked on an apple as Jacob walked into the kitchen, laughing and pulling me into a tight hug. I touched my hand to his upper arm.

I have missed you so much today, I loudly told him with my gift, to which he squeezed me in our embrace once more before letting go. Our eyes met and I smiled with him.

"Missed you too, Ness.. I see you've become quite the chef," he smirked, then eyed the garnish. "Rosemary?" Jacob guessed. I laughed softly.

"Basil.. So, tell me all about work.. then we can go hunting?" I continued showing him us playing a game as we always did, my favorite- who can catch the biggest prey? Jacob nodded, taking a seat at the table.

"Of course," he ate his steak quickly, as he always did. I always wondered how someone could love food so much. Jacob and Seth together could eat a whole Thanksgiving dinner. Jacob had made me some of his favorite foods a couple of times, but I never liked any of them. It was not how he made them, simply the foods in general I didn't like, and he didn't take it personally. Every now and then, I'd come into the kitchen to find a sliced up apple with a note- the note usually had kind words or a drawing of a cartoon wolf- Jacob was a great artist, though he never made much art.

After he ate and I changed my clothes into 'hunting' clothes, which were the clothes that I had that were designated to hunt in, so as to not ruin my good ones. In shorts and a long sleeved t-shirt, Jacob and I left. He phased, and we were off.

I counted down aloud as we stood in the lush yard at the house. When I hit one, we both took off running. As the trees blew past us, I could help but laugh. Jacob and I always had fun hunting, especially when it was competitive. I could already smell a stag, and I could tell that Jacob could too. Pushing myself faster to better match his speed- I'd insisted long ago that he not let me win-, I noticed Jacob suddenly veer to the left, away from our catch- he must have caught onto something else.

"It's no use, Jake, I'm gonna get a bigger one!" I spoke quietly, not loud enough to scare away the deer, a few hundred yards in front of me. I could hear a bark of a laugh.

I slowed, being softer on my feet as I approached her. The deer didn't notice me at all as I crouched behind a bush, preparing to leap for her. I sprung, tackled her, and drank. As I stood and walked off to find Jacob, her met me only a few feet away, fresh blood on his muzzle. I could smell the deer he got, and it smelled younger, smaller. I giggled as Jacob huffed jokingly.

"I told you I'd win."

He huffed playfully again and nudged my shoulder with his nose. I smirked in response, scratching the side of his face gently, something he always loved when he was phased.

We headed back home and I went to be almost immediately after saying goodnight to my parents.
