Oh what a pleasant surprise. It's my best friend Mai, also known as the bitch who betrayed me. And not to mention her betrayal from her best friend to her boyfriend, and left her to rot in prison. How's it going dear friend?" Azula said with a smirk on her face. "You look like shit." She added.

"I could say the same after all how many years have you been in prison… yeah that's right and still have 95 more years to go."

"If you came here to just discourage me and tell me stuff I already know, then you're wasting you're time. Leave."

"I know you have plenty of time on your hands, so you will listen. I need your help."

"With what?"

"You know that water bender, Katara." She said nastily.

"You mean the thieving bitch that stole my freedom and dishonored me and my father? Yeah is she dead?"

"No not yet. Guess what though."

"What."

"The same thieving bitch stole my boyfriend, and they're getting married!"

Azula started to laugh. "Zuko, and her!" She laughed even louder. "That is just astonishing; I mean I knew it would take him forever to marry you, but her?" She laughed even more. "Well that just won't do, but why should I care?"

"You should care because I need your help on revenge and I know you want some on her too."

"You are correct, but how can I help, you see there are these tiny little problems called 'cell bars' and it prevents me from doing what I want."

"I know you leave all that up to me. You help me plan and tell me what I need. I want her to hurt like I did."

"Okay well you have yourself a deal." Azula smirked and put her hand through the bars and shook Mai's hand.

For the next few days Azula and Mai planned secretively on their own time mostly at night. Katara would be there in two weeks so they planned carefully, and Mai made sure Zuko knew nothing.

Katara would spent most days waiting for a response from Zuko, but nothing had come, not the slightest message. She was leaving to go to Zuko in a couple of days but she didn't want to go if he didn't want her too. She was thinking about writing him again, but decided he'll write back. After all in the last letters all he did was write about how much he missed her. He had to write back.

Zuko was practicing in the arena and wondered about stuff and life. It had been a while since he fire bended, not since the incident. He was growing in strength actually. His flames become stronger and more violent with each blast. He evened amazed himself. Although bending and meditating was a good reliever, he still was worried. Katara hadn't written him in a week, he usually got at least two letters a week. He wanted to write her but he was sure everything was fine after all maybe she was just having fun with her friends like him and Mai. Yeah, that was probably it; he'll probably get a letter by the end of the week, or something.

Mai was broken she stayed up most nights crying from frustration, wondering what to do, but eventually she stopped being a weak link, at least that's what Azula called her. Yeah, yeah she knew Azula wasn't that much of an encouragement but she drove her to become stronger and motivated on the reason why they were planning this, the reason why her and Zuko are broken, the whole reason why her heart felt as if it had been ripped out and crushed

Azula told her the stuff she needed for this plan to pursue and be successful. She had bought new daggers, all sharpened and clean.

She had bought drugs, illegally off the street. She had bought some pills for herself to calm her down, atleast that's what the man said it would do. She took two pills each day, slowly making her unravel like a yarn ball. She was growing insane. All she knew was Katara was going to pay and she and Zuko will be together, that was her focus.

She was going to get him to understand her side, the reason why she loves him so much. She ripped a picture she had that she taken with Katara and her "friends", none of those people were her friends. They talked to her as if she were someone they had to be friends with, when they really didn't. They all had inside jokes, and she noticed how Zuko changed when she hung out with him and them. He usually wasn't very talkative and you know the most enjoyable one to hang out with, but when he was with them he would actually smile and laugh with them.

He would laugh and actually joke with them. It was uncommon for her, he didn't seem like the quiet shy boy she knew, but when they were alone he was. It actually made her mad that he wasn't open to her, like he was with them. No they weren't their friends, especially that water bending bitch. Mai repeated to herself. She threw daggers at Katara's picture aiming for her face. Each throw was a throw to get out her anger and frustration. When she hit her face she smirked. "Bull's-eye."

Zuko noticed that Mai had been acting weird. She was a quiet one, but it seemed as if she wasn't happy, like she was ignoring him. He just waved it away and kept to his work. As a few days passed he started to worry again. Katara still hadn't written him. What was going on? He wondered.

Mai had wrote back Katara, knowing her writing was different from Zuko's, she said that she was someone else. She wrote:

Dear Katara, Zuko has been very busy and didn't find the time to write you back, but he is very excited to your return. As I said he has been busy, but when you return he will be visiting this house in the western side of the Fire Nation palace. Directions will be on the back, so when you arrive just thank for writing and hope to see you soon.

Sincerely Zuko's trusted servant, Min.

Mai smiled at the false letter, hoping it'll work. In exactly two days their plan takes course, but now was the time Mai had to figure out how she would get Azula past the guards of the place. As she was thinking she didn't see Zuko's mom standing in the doorway watching her write, but as soon as she turned to mail the letter Ursa was gone. "That girl is up to something." Ursa thought as she walked down the halls.

"Everything is ready, for our plan. I just need to figure out how to get you out of here for you to do your part." Mai said as she paced in her cell.

"I thought you already figured it out! Come on Mai, you can't expect me to do everything."

"Well I can't cause too big of a scene I mean I want at least I good hour before they can realize you're gone."

"Here how about this, you know how if I be 'bad' or I don't seem mentally well, they send me to the enclosed, no windows, one door, and all metal cell right?" Mai nodded.

"Well let's say today someone forgot to give me my meds, and Azula is acting a little bit crazy." She smirked. Mai scrunched her eyebrows confused. "Don't worry, just come back tomorrow, lie you are not visiting me, say you have a message from the fire lord that needs to go to the warden, find my room, get me out, and sneak me out and finish your plan." Mai was still processing what she said, and then in a split second Azula grabbed Mai by her collar and pulled her into the bars, screaming in her face. Mai was shocked and didn't know what to do, guards immediately rushed inside and pulled her off.

"That's it! You're crazy! You're going in the psycho people, single cell!" The man said as he picked her up and threw her over his shoulder. Azula just threw her fist at him screaming "let me go!"

"Hey sorry you had to see that, but you should probably go home get rest. I knew you visit her a lot, but it'll be a while until she gets out, so just go home and don't worry." The lady guard told Mai. Mai nodded and walked out. She didn't even notice how hard she was breathing. "Agni! Azula can sure get real scary when she wants to!" Mai thought as she kept walking back to the palace patting down her dress and straightened up her collar. She smiled as she stood in front of Zuko's bedroom doors. She needed to ask Zuko something.

Katara was packed and ready to board the ship, and still she had gotten no response from Zuko. Hopefully everything was alright she thought as she walked up to the ship.

"Katara!" Katara turned to see a messenger holding up a scroll.

"It's a letter for you, says it's from the Fire Nation.

She smiled, "Zuko!" She ran down from the ship to retrieve the letter, she hugged the messenger and said thank you. With that she got on the ship and they parted for sea.

Eager to know what he wrote, Katara ripped the ribbon off the scroll and read it…

"What is this? I guess he just didn't find the time to write me… and what's this house he's going to?" Katara just ignored it and put the letter away. After all she was too excited to see Zuko, tomorrow will be the day! She looked out at the sea and saw the sun shining over the water. She smiled and remembered the first time she saw a sunset going to the fire nation, and it was surprising to see how much had changed since then. She smiled and inhaled the smell of the open sea, and then returned to her cabin for the night.

"Zuko?" Mai said as she knocked on his bedroom door. She heard him say hold on, and heard a drawer close and his door unlock.

"Hey Mai, uh you need something?"

"Yeah I wanted to tell you that I'm officially moving out the palace."

"Oh that's good news; I mean not that I want you to leave, just…" Zuko cleared his throat, trying to find the words to say.

"I understand, but tomorrow I'm checking out the house I'll be renting, will you come with me?"

"Sure what time?"

"Morning, we'll go after breakfast."

"Yeah sure I'll go."

"Thank you Zuko."

"No problem."

"Good night."

"Night." Zuko said as he closed the door. Mai smiled her plan was going perfectly, soon Katara will be here, and Mai will have Zuko. At least that's what Mai thinks.

As Zuko closed the door behind him he felt like something was just wrong. He had looked in his drawer and it looked as if someone had been inside it but no one was usually allowed in his room unless… Mai. Zuko shook his head, "Mai hasn't done anything wrong, and she's changed. I shouldn't just assume her for the worst, and even if she did go inside my drawer I'm sure she meant no wrong right?" He just shook his head and decided to go to bed knowing he's going to this house with her tomorrow.

Mai walked back to her room and got in bed. She stared at her wall for hours. Just the feeling and knowing tomorrow Zuko may fall in love with her again, made her not able to sleep. She took two more pills. Staying up for hours, slowly cracking.(and by that I mean she was going crazy.)

When she saw the sun coming up she went to go get Azula. It was so quiet, since everyone was asleep, so she steadied her steps as she tried to keep quiet through the halls. She left out the back way and then started to run to the jail house.

Ursa stood in front of her window. She loved watching the sun rise, but something caught her eye as she looked down. "Is that someone running away from the palace? Where are they going? Wait... Mai!" She wanted to do something like go tell Zuko but then he wouldn't believe her, he thinks Mai has changed. Ursa felt joy inside knowing she was right, but then fear came over wondering what was Mai doing. She looked down again and Mai was gone. Not knowing if it was just some figment of her imagination, or if she saw a person running, Mai or not, so she just decided to wait until breakfast to see if she's there if not she'll know what to do. She got back in her bed but she still couldn't push the feeling like something is wrong.
