Pulling up in front of the the small restaurant Daryl looked at Merle skeptically. He hadn't been here since he was younger. Hadn't even really thought of the place, but seeing it now was bringing back a lot of memories for it.

"Remember this place?" Merle spoke next to him.

"I haven't been here since the last time we came here when I was a kid..." Daryl looked at his brother, "I completely forgot she even had this place."

Merle chuckled and nodded, "Yeah I've came a few times. She's asked about you every time too."

Daryl got out of the truck and started towards the front door. Fuck how long had it been since he had been here. He hadn't even realized where they were going when Merle was driving.

Hearing the same twinkle to the door as they stepped through Daryl fought the smile that wanted to spread across his face. It was the same, like it was stuck in time. Just like the old style 50's diners.

"Are my eyes deceiving me or that the Dixon brothers in my place?" Came a boisterous female voice.

Daryl looked over to where the voice came from and nodded at the woman.

"Oh no Honey you gon' give me a hug!" stepping into Daryl's personal space she wrapped her small frame around his, her head barely hitting at his collar bones. "Lord child you've grown!" she chortled. Daryl fought flinching hard and if she noticed she didn't say anything.

Daryl chuckled and looked down at the woman in front of him then looked at Merle. "I aint seen you in forever Lucy, didn't think this place was still even here."

"Why I reckon you wouldn't have would you boy. You aint ever come back here after your momma passin away." Grabbing both brothers arms she took them to a booth towards the back, "Set and I'll get ya'lls orders and then we can catch up."

Daryl and Merle both dropped down in the booth obeying the woman. "Now what ya'll want? Big appetites if I recall correctly, even as youngins..."

Daryl watched Lucy walk away after taking their orders and then looked at Merle. "How many times you been here since then?"

"A couple times, first time I came here after mom passed was on my first leave when all that was going on. Closest anyone has ever came to cookin like mom." Merle coughed some looking away.

Daryl was shredding a napkin on the table not looking at his brother, "I aint seen her since about a week before all that shit happened ya know." Looking around the restaurant and then back to his brother Daryl dropped his gaze. "Aint changed a bit around here."

Merle laughed and looked over at Daryl, "Nah, she likes it this way."

Daryl nodded and looked up when their drinks were set down at the table with them. A waitress he hadn't noticed when he first came in was smiling down at him. " Here's ya drinks boys. Lucy said she'd be over in a minute." She looked over at Merle then cut her eyes back to Daryl, "Name's Heather."

Daryl looked at Merle's smirking face and wanted to hit him immediately. "Daryl." his voice came out short and clipped. Merle's smile broadened and he winked at Daryl.

"You must be the Daryl I've heard her mention a couple times...maybe the same one in the pictures she has on the walls." Heather was smiling even more at him and leaning towards him. "You live around here Daryl? We should go out sometime..."

Daryl moved further back in his seat and cut his eyes to Merle eyes pleading for help. He hated when woman came on to him, shit got old fast. With the way this girl was looking at him you would think she was a starved man and he was prime rib.

"Heather, order up!"

"Okay!" she called over her shoulder before looking back at Daryl, "Well if you need anything, and I mean anything just give me a holler and I'll be right over." Winking at him she turned on her heel and sauntered off.

Merle bust out laughing as soon as she was walking away, "Boy if I didn't know Carol was riding your ass into the ground I'd think you was a damned queer."

"Fuck you" Daryl barked.

"I really don't get it ya know. You're a complete and total fuckin' dick to just about anyone who approaches you, yet women are always throwing pussy at you." shaking his head and taking a dirnk of his tea. "Ridiculous."

"Just like when ya'll were younger I see. Settle down boys." Lucy laughed sliding in next to Merle. "How come ya never came back with ya brother any of those times to see me or eat my fine cookin'?"

Daryl looked at Merle and cocked an eyebrow. "Luce, he didn't know I ever came back here. Hell he never came back Senoia after mom's funeral." Merle looked at Daryl and then laughed, "Accept when Carol roped his ass in to getting dogs a couple of months ago."

"Carol?" Lucy looked at Daryl smilin', "Is that your lady's name?"

Daryl nodded at her looking at his hands on the table.

"Still just as quiet like when you were a boy. Merle always was the loud one. Now ya have to bring her for me to meet one day."

Daryl looked up at her for a minute and gave her a quick nod. He was feeling uncomfortable, being around her was making him think of his mother.

"Honey, I can look at ya and tell ya aren't to comfortable around me...why is that?"

Daryl was saved from answering when Heather walked up with their food. "Here's ya'lls order!" Sliding Daryl his order she rubbed his arm and winked at him again.

"Heather Lynn! You should be ashamed of yaself!" Lucy spoke low.

"Excuse me?"

"Don't think I didn't see you making eyes at him as soon as he stepped through that door and then when he ordered. Now you over he puttin' ya hands on him. Have class darlin'. Besides the boy is spoken for. Now get on up through there."

Heather's face burned red, "I'm...I'm sorry." She quickly walked away without a backwards glance.

"Lord that child, excuse her Daryl." Lucy laughed lightly.

"He's use to it, he gets hit on quite often." Merle laughed.

Daryl mumbled under his breath, "Don't mumble Daryl, speak up." Lucy prodded.

"I said," Cutting his eyes at Merle, "Laugh it up Daddy Dixon." Daryl watched Merle turn pale and starting eating his food like no one was setting around him at all.

"Am I missing something here boys?"

Merle shook his head at Daryl and kept eating. Daryl looked at him and then back at Lucy, "Nah." shaking his head he took a bite of his food. Chewing he looked up at Merle again, "You were right does taste just like what mom use to make."

Lucy laughed and nodded, "Of course it does. I'm the one who taught her too cook. Her and my girl Clara were always in the kitchen with me when they was growing up."

Merle chuckled next to him, "Damn good is what it is."

Lucy eyed Merle and frowned, "Don't talk with your mouth full. That's just distasteful, you need a good woman to break you of them bad habits boy."

Merle paled slightly and shoveled more food in his mouth looking at the table. "Now I don't know everything to know about your Merle Dixon, but what I do know is you aint bashful..." Lucy looked at Daryl and smiled, "What is going on with you two?"

Daryl looked and Merle the man looked like he was going to be sick. Daryl wasn't sure what to say to make him feel better, fuck he'd never been in that situation before. Looking back and Lucy she was watching him intently. She smiled at him and nodded as if waiting for him to go on with a story.

"Merle has himself a woman."

"Lord, you been stopping and seeing me for years and I aint ever heard the first thing about you having a woman. Why is that?" Lucy questioned.

"Never came up." Merle growled out.

"Now you take that snap out of ya tone boy, I wont have you growling at me like an animal. And yes it come up." Lucy soft voice chastised out as she clapped her hands together.

Daryl set back in his seat and watched the two of them. He hadn't really ever seen anyone talk to Merle that way since their mother. Sure Norm said stuff to him sometimes, but it was different the way he done it. This, this was something else entirely.

"I don't know...never really talk about me and her to people."

"You saying you embarrassed of the girl?"

"NO!" Merle barked.

Lucy looked at him raising an eyebrow in warning. "Now I loved ya momma just like she was my own daughter. Now I know she raised you better than to speak like that and raise ya voice. Don't make me ring your jaws for you." Laughing lightly she looked at Daryl, "Ya'll aint changed much but ya have at the same time. Turned into a couple of mountain of men on me is what ya done. All broad shoulders and muscle, when did ya'll grow up on me?" Lucy leaned forward and patted Daryl's chest.

He flinched like he does with anyone touching him and she frowned. Pulling her hand back she rubbed her neck and looked at him. "I could skin ya dad alive for the way he done you. I never knew Daryl. Had I known I'd killed him myself."

Daryl looked at Lucy awhile and didn't say anything. He knew what she was saying was true. She was always like a grandmother to him growing up, he always loved being around her. She had a way with people, no one would have suspected her of killing someone. Even if they had who could honestly arrest a white haired old woman and call her a murderer over David Dixon.

Nodding his head, "Not many people knew what he done. Don't think much on it."

"Honey that preys on my mind. I wont forgive myself for not paying more attention, I knew something wasn't right about that man. He had a sickness in his soul...I should have warned ya momma to leave sooner and get you out of there." Wiping her eyes and coughing slightly she looked up at him, "She'd love to see what you two look like now. Lord ya'll turned into handsome men. Maybe not the best of manners with Merle here but all the same."

Merle laughed and wiped his mouth, "I have manners."

"Ya just choose not to use them, right? Eatin' like a cave man." Lucy laughed swatting Merle's elbows off the table.

Daryl chuckled and looked pointedly at Merle, "He has no manners Lucy don't let him fool you. Aint nothing about him that isn't like a caveman."

Merle growled and kicked Daryl under the table.

"Boys...no fighting at the table. Ya'll aint changed a bit I see. Still rough housing. A lot alike I see as well." Lucy observed looking at Merle cleaning up the mess he had made.

Daryl shook his head and looked at Lucy, "We aint much alike really."

Merle nodded his head agreeing, "Heard that brother." laughing he took a drink of his tea and looked at Daryl winking.

Lucy hummed in the back of her throat at them. "Sure ya are. Do ya'll spend more time together now since Merle is out of the service?"

They both nodded at her and Merle was the one who spoke. "Yeah we work together and go out hunting. That was what we were doing today."

Lucy looked at both of them and nodded, "Yeah I can see that. Do any good?"

Daryl sighed, "No, seen some bear cubs though."

Lucy leaned back and smiled at them. "Don't stay away for so long boys. With my girl gone and ya momma...you two boys all the family I got left."

They ate their food and watched as Lucy disappeared only to come back packing a pecan pie and ice cream. Smiling she set down and looked at them. "If I do recal this was you favorite right Daryl? My pecan pie and homemade ice cream. I got another one I'm gonna send home with you."

Cutting into the pie Daryl's mouth was watering, "Yeah, yeah your right."

"You keep feeding us like this and your gonna have two angry women looking for your Lucy." Merle chuckled next her taking his slice of pie and ice cream.

"And why is that?" You could hear the amusement in her voice.

"Maybe not so much Carol...she's always cooking as is. Don't see how Daryl aint gained hundred pounds since she moved in with him. But Ace aint much of a cooker. Your gonna have us going home expecting them to cook stuff like this for us." Merle shoved some pie in his mouth and set back.

"Maybe I should just keep feeding you then so I do get to meet these two women that have claimed my grandsons." Lucy grinned at Daryl sliding him a plate. Winking at him she lowered her voice, "Unless of course Merle you think they wouldn't wanna be around me. Not meet the woman who raised ya momma up and taught her how to cook...Most women don't like to meet their mans mommas and grandmas anyways."

Merle coughed slightly and looked at Daryl. Daryl could feel his eyes on him but he just stared at his pie fighting smiling. He had forgot how much Lucy liked to tease people.

"Now that aint what I said Lucy..." Merle kicked Daryl lightly under the table. Trying to get his help Daryl just took a bite of his pie and looked at Merle then to Lucy shaking his head. "Ace and Carol aint like that. They wouldn't not like you for that. Hell Carol is likely to drive you crazy with the cooking stuff. Ace would hound you over horrible stories to tell on me at later times."

Lucy grinned at Merle and elbowed him lightly, "Don't get so worked up over a joke Merle...Daryl didn't."

Merle looked at Daryl and growled, "You little fucker."

"Merle Dixon! Don't you talk to your baby brother that way, not in front of me you wont." Lucy warned.

Daryl smirked at Merle popped another piece of pie in his mouth, "Yeah Merle don't be so mean to your baby brother. Always picking on me and taunting me. Grow up."

Lucy interrupted Merle before he could start again, "So Merle how long you been with your woman?"

"Two years." His voice was low and he wasn't looking at Lucy.

Daryl was aware that Merle's entire demeanor shifted when she started in the line of asking him about Stacey. Lucy was going to notice and say something, it's what she always done when they were younger. It was what Merle wanted to talk about anyways. Daryl done the best he could with helping him on that. Maybe if Lucy got him to talk about it she could say something that would help.

Lucy laughed smiling at them. "That's why I know something is wrong." Gesturing to Merle's slumped form with him pointedly avoiding looking at anyone. "Merle...Merle gon' act shy. Honey you aint ever acted shy in your life. Now I expect that from Daryl here, that's his nature. Not you honey. Tell me what it is..."

Merle looked at his hands and sighed, "Her name is Stacey...been together for two almost three years."

"What's the problem cause you just said that like you on death row."

"She's pregnant." Merle looked right at her. "You seen how our dad was we aint fit to be fathers."

Lucy hissed under her breath and looked at both brothers. Grabbing the brothers hands and holding them tightly. "I wanna get something clear right now, you two aint nothing like that man. Aint ever been and ever gonna be. Being like that aint in the blood boys, even if it was ya momma wouldn't let him win that fight anyways."

Merle chuckled and pointedly looked at Daryl. Daryl averted his eyes and tried to pull his hand away from Lucy. She held strong and willed around on him.

"Now what's the problem with the woman you love being pregnant with your child?"

Merle huffed and looked at Lucy, "I told you I aint fit to be no damn daddy. It'd be a damn curse."

"Aint no child ever a curse. You best be rememberin' that. Instead of looking at the negatives of things think of the positives...think of what you can teach your little boy or little girl. Look to the future not the past." Lucy soothed. "Your momma would be proud to know you gonna be a daddy."

Merle nodded at her and Daryl tried again to pull his hand free. Still holding on to him she released Merle's hand and looked right at Daryl.

"It amazes me how much of your mom I see in you Daryl."

Daryl felt his face burn red at her words and tried again unsuccessfully to pull his hand away. Lucy looked at him for a while her face carefully blank. Daryl avoided eye contact with everyone and he could tell that it bothered her. She had sought his eyes out anytime she tried talking to him so far.

"I seen the look Merle here gave you..." Lucy released Daryl's hand and looked at Merle, "We got you figured out. Now I can look at your brother and tell there is something going on with him as well. Out with it." Her voice held that motherly tone that meant business.

Merle looked at Daryl and he felt himself grimace. He was going to kill him if he said anything. It wasn't his place or his business to talk about his shit with anyone else.

"Lucy if you want to talk to him about it then get him to tell you." Merle ran hand through his short hair and leaned back looking at Daryl.

Daryl could feel Lucy's eyes on him almost silently pleading with him to talk to her. Daryl briefly looked up at her and she smiled. "There's those baby blues. Don't you ever hang your head around me. To damn good-looking to be hangin' your head and not letting the world see ya."

Daryl nodded at her but his eyes kept looking at anything and everything around. He was getting fidgety and wanted to smoke. He wanted to be alone for awhile. This was the most he'd been around someone he wasn't usually around anymore and it was getting to him.

"I can see you aint ready to talk but just know Daryl that when you are I'm always here. I might not have been her birth mother but all the same that woman was my child. That makes you all my grandsons." Looking at Merle she smiled and moved to stand, "And I'm gonna have a great grandchild soon."

Daryl and Merle ate the rest of their food and sat talking about stupid shit that they both knew was just to avoid talking about anything that really mattered.

Heather came over grabbing their cups to refill and smiled at Daryl again. Daryl sighed and shook his head looking out the window.

"Even after getting her ass ripped she's still tryin' to get your dick. It's that Dixon charm.." Merle cackled.

"Yeah if I got so much damn charm that you think women are just throwin pussy at me, where the fuck is your Dixon charm you brayin' jackass?"

"Learn to laugh you fuckin' dick!" Merle laughed at him again, "Fuck with the way your acting you'd think you were the one who knocked someone up."

Daryl ran a hand over his face and through his hair. Sighing, "She's right you know...Lucy. But at the end of the day it aint up to you about the kid. Ace will have it, you just need to figure out if your ass is gonna be there or not."

Merle nodded and looked at him dropping his bravado, "I know that. You gonna bring Carol here to meet her?"

Daryl smirked and quirked an eyebrow at Merle, "You bringin' Ace?"

Merle laughed and nodded, "Yeah more then likely."

Daryl pulled his phone from his pocket when it went off.

Get anything?
Carol xoxo

Daryl smirked at the screen. Looking at his watch he shook his head and started typing back to her.

Fuckno Merle loud ass ran everythin off

"Who the hell you talkin' to over there?" Merle questioned trying to get a glance at the screen.

Daryl looked up and quirked a brow at him. "Carol."

"She does know that your out with your brother...doin manly shit." Merle chuckled

Daryl's phone went off again and he looked at Merle, "Yes cause eating an entire pie and all that ice cream was the manliest thing we've done in awhile." he laughed at Merle's facial expression.

Then what you want for dinner?
I'm going to stop at the store...
Carol xoxo

Merle scowled at him when he looked up. Daryl shrugged at him and pulled out his wallet flipping money out on the table.

"OH no you don't!" He heard Lucy call to him. He looked over and she was shaking her head making her way towards them.

Daryl raised an eyebrow at her and she picked his money up and handed it back to him. "You aint payin' for this! This was me getting to see my grandsons."

Daryl scowled at her and so did Merle. Daryls phone made a noise again and he sighed, "I aint lettin' you pay for my food Lucy." Daryl stood the rest of the way up and so did Merle.

She patted both of them on the chest, "You will too." Her voice was firm and held no room for argument. "You wanna pay me you bring your women by one day to meet me. And you Merle better be bringing your baby around as well boy."

Merle chuckled and nodded, "Will do."

Lucy looked at Daryl expectantly and he ran a hand across his face and ruffled his hair, "Yeah I can do that."

Aint hungry. Just ate.

"Don't forget your pie Daryl."

Lucy walked them all the way outside talking to them and telling them how much she missed them.

"Merle Dixon next time you come see me you best be bringing your brother along." She pointed a finger at him smiling, "You be good boys! Love ya"

Merle hugged her and walked towards the truck patting Daryl on his way by. Daryl felt his phone go off again. Looking at Lucy he gave her a smirk, "Thanks for the pie. It was good seeing you again."

Lucy wrapped her small frame around him squeezing tight, "You remind me so much of ya momma. You be good to that girl you got." Placing her hands on his chest, "I told you though, when you ready to talk I'm here."

Daryl nodded at her and she patted his chest stepping back from him. Daryl pulled the door open for her and held it as she stepped back through. Walking towards the truck he pulled his phone out looking at Carol's text.

All Stacey has wanted was ice cream.
We've stopped at TWO ice cream places already. :(
Carol xoxo

Make her ass go somewhere where they got real food.

Daryl chuckled and looked at Merle has he climbed in his truck. "Your ass better stop and get Stacey a whole lot of Ice cream."

Merle turned and looked at him, "What the fuck you on about?"

"Carol saying Ace is draggin' her ass to all kinds of ice cream places."

"That woman eats more ice cream then what is normal." Merle huffed out a laugh.

Daryl pulled up at the shop and looked at Merle, "Why the hell you get me to stop here?"

"Want you too look at something I found."

Daryl followed Merle to the door as he unlocked it and walked through. Not bothering flipping the lights on because they both knew the layout like the back of their hands.

Merle stepped through a back door of the shop that was off the main floor. Flipping a light on he walked further over and to a car that was covered up. He looked at Daryl expectantly. Daryl walked further in and waited to see what was underneath the sheet, he could see the excitement in Merle.

Merle whipped the sheet off and Daryl broke out in a smile. Walked more towards the car he ran a hand up the hood and down the body as he circled it. "Where'd you find it?"

"Looked in every lot and junkyard for counties...finally came up on it. Title is right too." Merle chuckled watching Daryl. "Looks rough but I figure between your skills with a motor and body work, wont be nothing but a thing. Anything else I can handle if you don't feel like it."

Daryl nodded at him looking up and smiling. "Fuck. How much you pay to get it?"

Merle shook his head, "Aint important."

"The fuck it aint. This is a 1969 ZL1 Camaro. Pop the hood for me." Daryl stepped around lifted the hood standing back he crossed his arms over his chest, "500 horses with this aluminum V-8 engine. Fuck. Top speed of 125 miles." Daryl leaned forward bracing his hands on the car looking the engine over, "Zero to sixty in 5.3 seconds, quarter-mile in 13.6. She's a goddamn thing of beauty."

Daryl stood back up and smiled a full smile at Merle. Merle nodded and looked the car over, "Think you can get her running?"

"What kind of fuckin' question is that? Of course I can." Daryl smirked at his brother.

Daryl and Merle both looked back at the sound of shop doors banging shut. "Who the fuck is that?" Merle cautioned stepping back into the main room that was still pitch black.
