Kate POV
"Remember, terminate the production of the Miniremo units as soon as possible, and shift the staff over to the main project. See those two items are on the agenda." We heard someone say through the wall.
"Consider it done, boss! The design data of the Incredible Machine will be deleted shortly. It's been a great honour to have you visit us!" Kellyn and I recognised the voice of the person talking.
"Kincaid..." Kellyn and I said. We then heard footsteps, a door being shut and a helicopter taking off.
"Boss' helicopter is something else... The winds don't give it any trouble at all!" We heard someone else say.
"I have other news of interest. If all of this goes well, after the Incredible Machine is complete, the boss is going to promote me. There's an executive position waiting for me at headquarters." We heard Kincaid say.
"Why is that news of interest to us?" One said.
"Since you two are this units admins, you'll be coming to HQ as well!" Kincaid said. We heard cheering from the two Admins. Eventually we heard them walk off.
"Whats the Incredible Machine? It seems to me we've found one of Dim Sun's secret base." Wendy said.
"We better hurry up and find out. Ok, I'll explain the plan now." Sven said. After he told us the plan, we snuck into the next room. We saw a Grunt reading a piece of paper.
"This generator is for powering the trap in the corridor. It must not be turned off... Ok, noted and memorised." He turned around.
"What? Rangers! Four of them! I was just going over my maintenance notes! You better pretend you heard nothing, or I'll get the boot!" He said before running off.
"Did he say the generator powered a trap? We better turn it of now then." Wendy asked. Kellyn switched the power switch to the off position. We walked out of the room.
After searching a few other rooms, we finally found another grunt.
"Hey! Intruders! Jolteon, get them!" The grunt quickly got a Miniremo out and sent a Jolteon to attack us. With four of us there, it was easier just to let one person capture it so the others didn't get in the way. Sven caught it in a few seconds.
"What am I supposed to do now? What are the procedures for this?" The distressed grunt said, running off.
We walked over a floor that had a lot of metal bars with wires attached to them.
"I think this was the trap the grunt was talking about. It looks like the wires send electricity to the metal bars, making it into an electric floor." Wendy said.
"You could've just said that you think that this was the trap the grunt was talking about." Sven said.
"I know, but it's better to have an explanation."
"You're weird..." Sven said.
"I know." Wendy said, smiling.
"Why did an awesome guy like me get a weird green haired girl as my team mate?" Sven asked.
"Because you needed a mature person to make sure you don't go do stupid things on missions. But they didn't have a mature person, so they had to settle for me."
"Ain't that the truth..." We walked around a bit more, walking up a flight of stairs. We turned around a corner, and saw a Team Dim Sun grunt tapping stuff into a Miniremo. He spun around and saw us.
"Oi! You shouldn't be snooping around! Cacnea! Attack them!" He tapped a button on his Miniremo, and a Cacnea each came running at us. When I had just about finished my capture, I noticed the grunt sneak away.
After we had all finished our captures, we continued walking forward. Eventually the corridor ended and we walked onto a bridge. As we walked across, we saw the grunts who had taken the Wailmer pushing the Pokemon along in the corridor beneath us into a room.
We jogged for a bit, searching for the room the Wailmer was in, then finally found it.
"The Wailmer's in here, then. Wendy and I are exploring this floor some more. Kate and Kellyn, I'm sure you can deal with helping the Wailmer." Sven said.
"Thanks! C'ya later!" I said before Kellyn and I walked into the door.
"Hey, boss, her- You two aren't the boss! What do you think your doing here!" A grunt asked.
"Who cares, I'm bored with assembling Miniremo units all day long. You'd make a good change of pace! Three cheers for the new dream energy! Good-bye to oil!" One at the back of the room with grease on his hands said.
"Nah, we can't fight them in here, we'll make the Wailmer scared and it could break its tank!" One grunt said.
"Naw, fine. Push them outta here, then!" The four grunts made a wall and pushed us out of the room, locking the door after us.
"Damn it, we're gonna have to find another way in!" Kellyn said. We walked down the corridor, and saw two grunts.
"Say bro. Who might this be here?" One said.
"What, you can't tell from the outfit? What we have here is obviously some actors from an action movie." Kellyn and I looked at each other.
"Well, then, bros, can you tell me this? What are actors doing here?" The second grunt asked us.
"You know, it's one of those things. They're on location. It's a film shoot. There's a camera here somewhere capturing the unfolding scene as we speak." I explained.
"Oh yeah? What's the movie? Bro, tell me."
"What else could it possibly be? 'Pokemon Rangers vs. Team Dim Sun!'" Kellyn said.
"That's the most boring movie title ever, bro." I said.
"Hey, I had to think it up on the spot! Don't blame me!" Kellyn said.
"Well, since we've spotted you, we're gonna have to fight 'ya!" The first grunt said. They got out a Miniremo and made a Murkrow and Honchkrow attack Kellyn and I.
"Say, bro... We lost that match, but well be starring in a movie, so it's all good, right?"
"Yeah... If they don't cut our scene, that is..."
"We'll get a better pay just for that scene than the amount of money we've both earned since we've started here added together, bro."
"...You do know it wasn't an actual movie, right?"
Kellyn and I left them to talk while we went to go find a way to help the 'Wailord mini', aka Wailmer.
"What are you doing?" I heard someone say. They were just around the corner.
"I know that voice, but I can't remember whose it is!" Kellyn said.
"I got blueprints for their incredible machine from this mushroom boy!" We heard Sven say.
"Mushroom boy? It can't be..." I said. We ran around the corner to see Isaac holding onto pieces of paper, Sven trying to get them off Isaac, and Wendy petting her Partner Pokemon, a Staraptor, completely ignoring Sven.
"ISAAC!" Kellyn and I shouted. He didn't even seem to notice us, and he continued trying to keep Sven from taking the blueprints.
"I thought you were supposed to stop Sven doing stupid things?" Kellyn asked Wendy.
"'Supposed to' being the key words. It doesn't mean I have to, just that I should do." Wendy said.
"Hey! Help me, Kellyn and Kate! This guy's dressed like a cowboy is being a jerk!" Isaac said, finnally noticing us. Before we could do anything, a Dim Sun grunt came running around the corner.
"Professor Isaac! I'll help you!" He quickly made a Murkrow attack Kellyn and I. After it trying to dive bomb us a few times, we captured it.
"I hate to admit it, but I'm outclassed! Professor Isaac! Wait for a chance, and then make a break for it!" The grunt walked backwards a few steps, then turned and ran.
"Kate, Kellyn... You know the mushroom boy?" Wendy asked.
"Of course we know each other! We are fellow friends and graduates of the Academy! Kate, Keith and Kellyn became Rangers, Georgia became a mechanic, Rhythmi a operator, and I became a scientist, but we're alike in working hard."
"Whoa, what's going on here? One, can 'ya stop talking so fancily! Two, how does an Academy graduate end up working in Dim Sun's hideout? Actually, we're smack in the middle of their hideout. This is no time to chat. We'll take this kid back to the Union. Professor Hastings'll be happy with this catch."
"Really? You'll let me meet Professor Hastings? I'll go! I'll go! Please, take me! I don't mind working here because there's plenty of books and the people are nice. But the Ranger Union... Its appeal is very strong. If I can lose myself in research, I'm willing to go anywhere!"
"Whoa! Why didn't you just get a job at the Union in the first place, then?" Kellyn asked.
"Mr Kincaid went to all the trouble of getting this job for me, so I took it. I never knew what I'd be doing, though..." Isaac trailed off.
"Well, grab anything you need, then we'll get moving." I said. Isaac grabbed a disk and gave it to Wendy to look after.
"Also, before I leave, I'd like to say good-bye to Mr Kincaid. I think I owe him that courtesy." Isaac said.
"Sure, I think we're gonna have to go find him anyway. We're trying to save a Wailmer." Kellyn explained.
"Wailmer? I thought they were going to catch a Wailord?" Isaac asked.
"Hey! You're those Rangers from before! But why the professor, too?" A grunt asked, looking around the corner.
"Where is Mr Kincaid?" Isaac asked.
"Bottom floor. Well, the Wailmer will be with our boss by now. You're too late, Rangers!"
"Would you be nice enough to show us how to get to Kincaid?" Kellyn asked.
"Sorry, I'm not a nice person." The grunt said, walking off.
"Don't worry, I know how to get there anyway." Isaac said. We followed Isaac to a elevator, which Isaac put a password into and it took us down.
While we were in the elevator, I suddenly got a voicemail from Keith.
"Vicemail! Vicemail! It's me, Hea... Keith! I call you about the Yellow Gem! You remember it? Big crystal? Yellow? You are my friend, yes? You take care of it, okay? Okay! You see, friend, I remember I have anther important mash-up I must do. You come to Haruba Desert now, please! Hurry, hurry, right away!" Keith said in a weird accent, then ended the voicemail.
"What?" I said.
"He said mash-up instead of Mission, vicemail instead of voicemail, what, is he joking with us?" Wendy said.
"And he had that accent... I can't tell whats going on, but you two better head out to Haruba Desert as soon as this is over." Sven said.
"That didn't sound like Keith at all!" Isaac said.
What the heck was he up to? It isn't like him to joke around on a mission...
We stood in silence until we got out of the elevator, then went to stand by a door that someone was shouting behind.
"What is the meaning of this exactly? What compelled them to capture a Wailmer?" We heard Kincaid say.
"Oh, no, no, boss! That isn't so! According to the Dim Sun Marine Unit, this is not a Wailmer, but a Wailord Mini!" We heard someone, presumably some poor Admin or grunt who pulled the short straw, say.
"The only thing mini here is your brain! You allowed yourself to be taken in by such a pathetically obvious lie? This is nothing more than a simple Wailmer! You honestly thought that this tiny thing can take the place of our cargo ship?! I can't even work up the energy to get enraged over this. I've never been lucky with subordinates my entire career. My promise to take you to the HQ with me? Don't expect that to happen now..." After he finished speaking, we all walked in.
"Hmm? Who's there? Rangers! And Professor Isaac, too? You're going to kidnap Professor Isaac?"
"Oh, no, Mr. Kincaid, that's not true! They're not kidnapping me! No, sir! They've invited me into the Union! Mr. Kincaid. This is Kate and Kellyn, from the class next door, remember?"
"Remember? How could I ever forget what that Ranger did to our cargo ship... Hmm?" He saw the disk Wendy was holding onto.
"That data disc in your hand... That contains our blueprint data! What is the meaning it this?! Don't just stand there you buffoons! Take them back by force!" A few grunts I hadn't noticed before got Miniremos out and sent a range of Pokemon to attack us. It took a while to capture the Pokemon, as we were in a small space with a lot of people.
"It doesn't matter though... You've shown up far too late. I don't say this out of spot either. The Incredible Machine in those blueprints is already 99% complete. When the boss switches on the machine... Team Dim Sun's future will shine with the colours of darkness. I made it all possible. Dim Sun's future is built on my sacrifice. I did it by posing as the Ranger School's teacher and recruiting a boy genius. Yes, a genius of the kind that comes along once a century. That boy genius is Isaac. For that achievement, the Boss has finally promised to make me an Altru executive..." Suddenly then ground shook.
"What was that?" Kincaid shouted. An Admin ran in.
"It's a Wailord! A Wailord is ramming our base!"
"A Wailord?! Is it trying to destroy our base? I'm abandoning the base. I have too much at stake! I'm a man with a destiny! I'm too much a man to be drowning here with the likes of you! I wash my hands of you! Swim own way out of this mess!" I quickly blocked his path to get out of the building.
"Get out of the way, you brat!" He said.
"Mr. Kincaid... The Incredible Machine... It's not a machine for promoting friendship between people and Pokemon?"
"Of course not! What would that do to help Team Dim Sun! And Kate, if you don't get out of the way, you'll pay!" I just crossed my arms.
"Fine, you asked for it..." Kincaid got a Miniremo out. He tapped a few things into it, and I felt something fly over my head. I looked around to see a Gliscor hovering by Kincaid. He tapped a few more things into the Miniremo, and the Gliscor attacked. While I dodged tornados and mud bombs trying to capture it with Sven's help, Kellyn and Wendy took the Wailmer back to the water, and Isaac kept Kincaid from escaping. Eventually Sven and I caught the Gliscor and Wendy and Kellyn got back from releasing the Wailmer.
"Everything's ruined! Those Rangers beat me! The blueprints were taken! The Professor's lost to the Union! It's tiny in here! And my ears are ringing!" Kincaid quickly pushed past Isaac and got into a helicopter and flew off.
"I'll put out a call to have Area Rangers to continue checking this place out. I'll just voicemail the Union to tell them about what happened." Sven said.
"Hey, Isaac, I have an idea! Voicemail Rhythmi on one of our Stylers and surprise her!" I said.
"Sure!" He said. I gave him my Styler to ring her.
"Voicemail! Voicemail!" Isaac said is as girly of a voice as he could.
"That doesn't sound a lot like you, Kate. Who is this?" She asked.
"Guess?" Isaac said in his normal voice.
"Isaac? You haven't answered any of my texts or anything!" Rhythmi almost squealed.
"Calm yourself, Rhythmi." I said loud enough for her to hear.
"Shut up Kate. But why are you with them, Isaac?" Rhythmi asked.
"Long story. I'll tell you when I get to the Union." Isaac said.
"Let's get going Isaac. I'll take you to the Union, and Sven's going to take you two to Haruba Village, ok?" Isaac and Rhythmi finished talking and he handed my Styler back to me.
"Professor Hastings asked me to tell you two you're Ranger Rank eight now." Sven said, finishing his voicemail.
"Yes!" Kellyn and I said together.
"I'll see you two later, then." Kellyn said.
"C'ya!" I said. We split to go in our different directions, Wendy and Isaac flying to the Union on a Staraptor each, and Sven driving us to Haruba Village in a boat.
I decided to try and stop thinking about Keith for a second. Sure, it was weird that he was joking around on a mission, but he was Ranger Rank 8, the same as Kellyn and I. I looked into the water, which was very salty, according to the captain on the boat Kellyn and I were on before.
I think that was my longest chapter so far! If there are any mistakes, blame it on how tired I am. I now have to write an essay, make a poster on a famous entrepreneur, create another poster with a slogan to help stop traffic congestion, do three pages of maths homework, and finish my science presentation. FUN.
