Today was like any other day. The sun was shining, the birds where chirping, and all seemed right with the world. However in one particular home, hysterical laughter from a certain pinkettte became an unsettling sight to behold.
Lightning Farron was sat in the front room, minding her own business before her girlfriend entered . In Vanille's hand was a blue pet carrier, the cat inside wearing the biggest scowl imaginable.
Within seconds Lightning went from cool, calm and collected to suffering a laughing fit.
"I knew he'd be wearing a cone but I didn't realise he'd look that stupid!" Lightning bellowed, unable to suppress her laughter.
"Lightning it's not that bad..."Vanille tried – but a single glance to the feline caused a single giggle to escape.
"See? You think it's funny too" Lightning grinned, now calming her previous fits of laughter before talking again, "So how long does he have to wear it? She asked as Vanille sat herself down next to lightning, the cat carrier gently placed between them.
"Six weeks," Vanille replied with a sad glance to the cat in question, "Bub is allowed to move about but, I don't think I can bear watching him walk about the house knocking into things!"
"He won't even be able to eat properly" Lightning commented, accidentally making Vanille even more upset - the threat of tears growing by the second.
"OH NO BUB, I'M SO SORRY IT'S MY FAULT THEY DID THIS TO YOU!" Vanille cried, the tabby cat backing away as far as he could in fear of the loud noise erupting from the bubbly girl. As his eyes looked to Lightning for help the pinkette sighed before standing.
"Alright alright I get it, you both don't like the cone" Lightning mumbled, "and I thought we could spend six weeks laughing about it but alas, I must fix this. I can't have you crying every time you look at him" she sighed.
"Wait, where are you going?" Vanille asked in confusion, now standing also.
"To solve this issue. You don't want Bub to spend six weeks wearing a cone do you?" Lightning smiled.
"Of course not!" the bubbly girl instantly replied.
"Then be patient and I'll sort this out" the pinkette grinned, leaning down to give Vanille's head a kiss before she left.
Vanille had no choice but to return to her seat, awaiting Lightning's solution.
...Some time later...
As the sound of the doors opening reached Vanille's ears, she turned to see Lightning step in with a bag behind her back.
Before Vanille could ask what it was Lightning brought a finger to her lips and winked, saying it was a "surprise". The pinkette gently picked up Bub's carrier and took him upstairs, leaving Vanille to once again wait in anticipation.
The emerald eyed girl didn't have to wait long, but the sounds of a struggle and Lightning's voice telling Bub off made Vanille curious what was going on. Finally, after Lightning told Bub to stay still for the hundredth time, it went quiet. Of course that was until Lightning called Vanille up to see Bub version 2.0.
With no idea what to expect, Vanille hesitently made her way upstairs; each creaking step made her all the more nervous. Once she had reached the final step, a side glance to their bedroom revealed a familiar cone left on the floor. However before Vanille could charge in and ask what the hell Lightning was thinking she stopped at the sound of purring. She knew this was Bub's purring, however she couldn't figure out why since he was grumpy all day.
Ignoring previous fear Vanille entered their room, pleasantly surprised at Lightning as her eyes zeroed in on her. The pinkette held the bundle known as Bub in her arms, however they were not fighting. Instead they were almost smiling at each other, almost as if a truce had been made. Bub, the feline who had been in a foul mood all day was now purring in Lightning's arms, allowing her to pet him.
Suddenly, a grin found Vanille's lips as she looked at what Bub was wearing. It was a red and black chequered shirt, the sleeves rolled up and each button fastened perfectly. Lightning's eyes twinkled in amusement before she smiled at Vanille and said, "Like what you see?"
"More than like, I love what I see" The emerald eyed girl giggled, her hand finding Bub's head. The feline purred, his improved mood a blessing for all of them. Even Lightning seemed happy with this arrangement, her own hand stroking the kittens chin.
"Where did you get an idea for this?" Vanille asked with a wicked grin, secretly smug that Lightning cared for the feline.
"Well he only wears the cone to stop him from pulling out the stitches right? Well it made sense to me that since a baby shirt is practically a trap designed to stop them from taking it off, it applies the same to felines right? I mean you treat him like a baby anyway" The pinkette shrugged, not admitting she had put more thought into getting Bub a shirt.
"Lightning I'll only allow this on one condition" Vanille demanded, taking a very serious approach.
"Which is?" the icy eyed woman asked with a raised brow – the cat in hand almost doing the same thing.
"You let me kiss you for your genius and we buy a dozen more shirts, preferably pink"
"That's two conditions" Lightning smirked.
"Are you complaining about kisses?" Vanille gasped dramatically, her hand over her heart.
"Of course not! I'm complaining I haven't got one yet!" The pinkette whined.
"Well c'mere you pink puff ball" Vanille giggled, dragging Lightning down for a deep, but gentle, kiss. Both women grinned into the kiss, neither wanting to pull away any time soon as it deepened.
However the feline in between them was less than amused with their antics, and so he did the only thing he could. Scratch Lightning – earning the standard reaction.
"GOD DAMN IT BUB!"
"Lightning no! He's just a baby!"
