Chapter 28: Bound by Law (By this I mean like law law and not Law as in Trafalgar Law...)
Law stared down at Nightmare in his arms. He really wasn't expecting her to just fall down like that. The gold markings were a problem enough but now there was this. Although Nightmare was still conscious it didn't look like she was going to say anything anytime soon. With a sigh Law scooped her up in his arms and rushed over to the infirmary. When he got to the infirmary he set her down on one of the beds and started checking her temperature and anything else that might be out of the ordinary. Just like last night, Nightmare's temperature was normal. With not much else to work off of he left the infirmary to get Blaze to help him out with running some blood tests.
"What's the matter captain? Where'd Nightmare go?" Blaze questioned when he saw his captain rush back into the galley.
"Just come with me and I'll explain on the way to the infirmary," Law told him. By those words alone Blaze knew that Nightmare somehow ended up going back to that room with some sort of injury. Blaze got up from the table and started following Law to the infirmary. As they walked down the halls of the submarine Law began explaining to Blaze how Nightmare had gotten a serious headache and how it was the same as what she had gotten last night.
"What do you mean last night?" Blaze asked remembering that Law had gone to his room first out of everyone.
"She stumbled into my room last night with that same headache and couldn't even stand up properly after falling down," Law explained being careful to leave out the part about her stay in his room. Blaze, not even questioning it, just nodded as they walked into the infirmary. Before entering the infirmary they heard screams from the room causing them to speed up. The two immediately stopped when they entered the infirmary staring at the sight before them. They were both completely shocked. Nightmare was screaming bloody murder with a scalpel in her hands. Her sleeves were rolled up and she was attempting to cut where the markings that were on her arms. Law quickly got over his shock and rushed in front of Nightmare, grabbing the wrist of the hand holding the blade to refrain her from anymore self-harm. Blaze shook his head from his thoughts and rushed up next to Law to assist in getting the scalpel out of Nightmare's grasp. When they successfully got the scalpel out of her hand she began to try and scratch at her arm. Law was luckily still holding onto her wrist or she would've torn her arm open by now. She was still screaming though.
"Miss Nightmare what's wrong? Try to calm down a bit," Law tried to persuade her. Although her screams would stop momentarily it would only be for a second since she was gathering air to scream some more. Law had noticed when he grabbed her that she was trembling too.
"Captain should I inject her with some sedatives to knock her out?" Blaze asked seeing that Nightmare wasn't calming down. Law didn't want to do that though. Knocking her out now of all times would probably kill her mental state with whatever she's going through at the moment. Plus he didn't want to wait for answers. He needed to know what happened as soon as she calms down.
"No," Law gave a firm answer. As they were doing this Nightmare was still screaming. She kept trying to squirm out of Law's grip in order to attack herself again. Law stared at Nightmare for a moment and then looked over to Blaze. He sighed and then turned back to her and leaned close to her ear.
Then in a low, hushed voice he spoke. "Mizuki, please calm down," he told her in a comforting yet serious tone. Blaze was completely shocked when he saw Nightmare begin to calm down. He hadn't heard what Law told her but it must've been something to make her calm down. Law sat back in his wheelie chair and then turned to Blaze. "Can you leave for a moment while Nightmare calms down," Law told Blaze. Blaze looked at Nightmare worriedly and then to the captain.
"But didn't you need me to-"
"Leave," Law told him sternly. Still utterly confused and frightened by his captain's seriousness Blaze just nodded and stepped outside for a moment. After seeing that Blaze had left Law turned back to Nightmare and stared at her with concern. "What happened?"
Nightmare was kind of out of it at the moment. She was aware of what she just attempted to do but her mind was somewhere else. Right now she looked like a person who woke up in an unfamiliar room and with evident fear in her eyes. For a while she just kept staring down at the golden markings on her arm and then finally turned to Law. She suddenly buried her face into his chest for comfort. "They're coming for me…" Nightmare's voice was muffled from Law's hoodie but he could still hear her clearly. Although she seemed scared and trembled her voice was surprisingly calm.
"Who are?" Law questioned. Who on earth would Nightmare be so terrified of? It definitely wouldn't be the marines or the government. So who in the hell was doing this to her?
"The angels," she responded. Law widened his eyes in shock. Out of anything that Nightmare could be afraid of why and how was it angels? Wasn't she part angel herself? So why should she be afraid of angels coming after her?
"Why the hell would you of all people be afraid of them?" Law finally questioned while looking down at her. She pulled away from him so she could look him in the eyes. Law was somewhat relieved when he found that she had calmed down a bit more and wasn't trembling anymore.
"Back when we were at the marine headquarters I…" Law wanted her to continue on but it was evident in her eyes that she was looking back on whatever she was talking about. "I killed several people while in my angel form."
That was it? That's what she was so afraid of? Why was that such a big deal? Screw angels, this girl never seemed afraid of anything. Nightmare saw that Law was still confused and expanded on her explanation for him. "Don't you remember? I told you that they have a strict no killing rule. This isn't something to take lightly. They may be angels but they're fierce. And if someone breaks one of their most important rules then it's bad news. Last night's headache was a warning, same goes for these markings," she told him. After hearing this Law began to make some more sense of the situation but something was still bothering him.
"I believe you but how did you find all this out? You didn't know anything about those markings a moment ago so how do you know about them now?" he asked her.
"I wish I could comprehend it but the truth is that I'm not quite sure. After you left the headache disappeared while giving me that knowledge in the process, I suspect that the angels wanted to give me a heads up," she answered. It was silent for a moment and then Nightmare looked over to the door. "He can come in now…" Nightmare mumbled referring to Blaze who was still out there. Law, having forgotten about the man he had sent out to the hall, looked over to the door and sighed. Law got up and went over to the door to call Blaze back in.
When Blaze walked inside he noticed how much more calm Nightmare was. He glanced over to his captain questioningly. As much as he wanted to ask about it he had to skip the opportunity. This was still a seemingly serious matter. "So what exactly is the problem at hand?"
Law began to bandage up Nightmare's arm as she explained her situation to Blaze. Blaze took it just as well as Law did. He was also utterly shocked. He tried to stay as calm as possible and just waited until the end to ask any questions. Just as Nightmare finished explaining Law also finished bandaging up her arm.
"That all seems to make a lot of sense now but I still want to know why you were screaming like that and cutting your arm," Blaze said and Law seemed to want the same information. As scared of the angels she might be it still makes no sense as to why she would hurt herself like that. Nightmare sighed and looked at her bandaged arm. Although it was faint, Law and Blaze could both make out some kind of sadness in Nightmare's facial expression.
"These markings are written in the language that the angels had made to communicate with each other so that mortals wouldn't be able to read it," she told them.
"What does that have to do with anything?" Law asked still not quite getting it. Nightmare let out another sigh and looked up at him. Her eyes were sad and pleading.
"My powers have nothing to do with these markings at all. I'm now bound by the angels' laws and I am now in their possession." Both of their eyes widened immediately. Nightmare spoke again before they could say anything, and using just the name Law out of rarity. "Blaze, Law… I'm not a human anymore."
"Whoa what the hell are you talking about? How are you not human anymore? Weren't you part angel before?" Blaze shot back immediately.
"Yes but I was still human. After the angels come for me I will be turned into a full-fledged angel and be forced to abide by the rules," Nightmare told them sullenly. She then started to laugh a bit. It was an eerie type of laughter, but didn't turn into a laughing fest like usual. "Me… an angel? You've got to be joking. I'm the worst candidate for that. Being an angel will mean… no more killing? No, that can't happen. I have to kill, I need to."
"Uh… Captain she's showing a bit of insanity again…" Blaze trailed off as Nightmare kept rambling on about not being able to kill. Blaze was completely shocked when he saw Law get up and then quickly stick a needle in the side of Nightmare's arm causing her to pass out. "I thought you didn't want to use sedatives!" Blaze yelled while looking at the passed out Nightmare. Law took the needle out of her arm and then set it down on the counter.
"Yes but that was before I figured out why she started cutting herself." Law told him while washing his hands.
"What do you mean?" Blaze was somewhat confused. Honestly his brain was going to start hurting today with all the confusion going on.
"It came to my realization as she started rambling that the reason why she started cutting herself is because her insanity began to slip out when she realized she couldn't kill. She doesn't want to be bound by those rules so much that she's willing to inflict pain on herself to get rid of it," Law said. Blaze looked over to Nightmare. Now that he thought about it, it did make a lot of sense.
"Nightmare really likes killing doesn't she…." Blaze murmured and Law just nodded. "So what are we going to do about this whole angel thing anyways?"
"I don't intend to hand Nightmare over to them and I doubt she wants to either. So if it comes down to that then we'll fight them," Law answered bluntly.
"B-but Captain those are angels." Blaze pointed out.
"Yes, I know." Blaze sighed when realizing that they had once again found themselves in a seemingly hopeless situation. How were they getting out of this one?
It was about an hour later now and Nightmare was just waking up. She saw that neither Law nor Blaze were in the infirmary anymore. The markings were still present on her skin and nothing had changed. Nightmare probably couldn't have found a better moment to wake up. Because right when she did some knowledge came to her; one of them has arrived. Nightmare cursed under her breath and looked down at the markings that tainted her skin. A slight glow emitted from the golden markings and Nightmare frowned. There really was no escaping this. The door of the infirmary began to open and Nightmare looked up in apprehension. This time it wasn't Blaze and it wasn't Law. Much rather, it was someone she had never seen before.
It was a man who appeared to be in his mid-20s. He had long hair to his mid-back which was as white as snow and his eyes were a beautiful gold. He wore a long white coat and a plain white shirt along with white pants. His pale white hands were stuck in his coat pockets and his lips played a smirk. "I've longed to meet you Miss Mizuki," his voice was like silk yet the mention of Nightmare's name still made her cringe. "Or should I say Miss Nightmare?" his smirk widened as he took a step
"What the hell do you want?" Nightmare snarled causing the man to chuckle.
"Oh I think you know what I want from you," he said while walking up in front of her. He forcefully grabbed her wrist and yanked it up between the two of them. "These markings explain it all. You're mine now." A victorious smile replaced his smirk and he let go of her wrist.
"I didn't think an 'angel' would seem to be so rude and mean," Nightmare said still trying her best to make light of what was happening. Her mind was refusing to accept the fact that he had come to take her away at the moment. So she was trying to pass it off. But it wasn't working too well.
"Oh sweetie, there are all types of angels. We're all good at heart but have many different personalities," he told her. Nightmare glared at him.
"Don't call me sweetie," she muttered. The man shrugged it off and then walked over to the door.
"Come on now. If I keep the higher ups waiting any longer then I'll be in trouble," he told her. "And don't try to resist. You're bound by the angel's code now, if you don't come with me now then you'll be forced to come soon enough with a whole lot of pain involved" he said after seeing her reluctant expression. Nightmare looked around the infirmary for a moment. She wanted to yell; to at least get someone's attention so that they could come and help her out. But she knew that in the end it was inevitable. She wasn't doubting the Heart Pirates or anything like that at all, but even if they were to go in an all-out war against the angels she'd still have to go to them one day. Nightmare begrudgingly got up and began walking towards the door. "Good girl."
"So how exactly are we getting there?" Nightmare asked. The man then smiled lightly and held up a key.
"As simple as this," he told her and then stuck the key in the keyhole of the infirmary door. Nightmare's brow furrowed as she watched him turn the key. A click was heard and when he opened the door it was definitely not the sub's hallway. For now all she saw was pure white but she knew that there was something else beyond it. Nightmare was afraid of that happening. She had wondered how he had gotten onto the submarine without anyone noticing him but with a key like that it didn't seem to be a hard task. This also meant that Nightmare wouldn't be able to get anyone's attention while being taken away. What's worse is that she didn't get to say goodbye. "I'll let you write a note but that's the only thing I can permit you to do." Nightmare looked up at him surprisingly. "What? It's not like I'm coldblooded. I am an angel you know?" She just sighed but took up his offer. She found a sheet of paper and a pen in the infirmary and began to write on it. When she finished she went back to the angel and followed after him as they walking into the white space. The infirmary door closed after them and the next time it would be opened the white space will be gone.
Law was regretting it. He really was. Originally, he had wanted Nightmare to be kept on watch just in case something happened. Well something did happen. But of course both he and Blaze were out of the infirmary at the moment. What made it worse was that it was his turn to watch after her. Blaze had gone to eat lunch so Law was staying there to watch her. All he was doing was getting a glass of water. He didn't think that she'd be gone by the time he got back. What's worse is that when he had first gotten back the infirmary door refused to open, and when it finally busted open she was gone. Law's glass of water meant nothing and just fell to the ground, shattering into millions of pieces. He was just about to rush out the room in hopes that she had just woken up herself and went to her room or something but he stopped. On the bed that Nightmare had been sleeping on was a sheet of paper with words spilled all over it.
Law walked forward already knowing what the note would say. He honestly didn't want it to say anything and just be a blank sheet of paper. At least then it wouldn't seem like Nightmare went with them willingly. He picked up the note and began to read it.
'Once again I'm sorry but it seems that I'll be leaving for a while. As much as I'd know that you'd love to; please don't come after me. This is my own fault therefore I must do this by myself. Try not to worry too much either. It's not like they can kill me anyways. Keep going on with your journey and don't wait for me. I will be back. Maybe not tomorrow, but I will definitely come back.'
Law stared at the note in his hand. This time he had no choice but to trust what she wrote this time. He didn't know where she was or how long it'd be but just as she asked of him, he'd keep going on his journey without worry in hopes that she will return.
A/N: I did it... I seriously just did that. Do whatever you want to me but at least the ending was nice! She will obviously return because returning is for awesome people like Nightmare. At least you guys now know why I emphasized that part in the marine headquarters so much when she killed the people. Now I wonder what's going to happen to poor wittle Nightmare :/... So your thoughts? I swear to god this freaking story is just a god damned reverse-harem. I seriously got to at least include another female character, or should I? I don't know it's up to you guys.
And before I forget! For the past few weeks I always forgot to mention this but I have the most perfect song/music video for Nightmare. It's like perfect. Okay so if you have access to the wonderful internet of youtube then please look up Damage by Fit For Rivals and watch the music video! It's not completely perfect for Nightmare but it's still really good!
Okay so sorry for any grammar issues and whatnot you know, the whole Nightmare leaving for realz thing as well.
