"Alright Clark where are we going?" I asked him as I made my way through somewhere. I had no idea where I was because of the fabric that was wrapped around my face, covering my eyes. "Clark this is silly let me take this off." He chuckled as he steered me through the public place. I could hear all kinds of muted voices and some kind of vehicle making it's way.

"I guess you can take it off now." I lifted the handkerchief off and I beamed.

"We're at a train station!" My head whipped around to see where we would be going but I couldn't find any hints.

"We're meeting my parents." I reeled back and looked at him if he had lost his mind.

"What?! You can't just drop this on me! I have to get ready. Clark if I would have known I was going to try and impress your parents I would have changed!"

"You look beautiful." He said simply as I narrowed my eyes at him. "My parents are going to love you. I just figured that if we're talking about marriage you should meet my folks." My eyes softened at him and he visibly relaxed.

Neither of us had brought up the marriage thing again since that night but it was running through both our brains. Was he actually going to propose? How soon would this happen? Had he told anyone? I wasn't going to say anything until it had actually happened.

"Wait do your parents know about that?" He shrugged his shoulders.

"I tell my parents a lot but I didn't tell them outright. I'm sure they figured it out." Great how was I supposed to impress the parents that raised one of the greatest heroes in our world today?

"I can't believe this." He muttered.

"What?" When I looked up at him he looked like I was going to slap him at any moment.

"I have to go." He said simply.

"What?!" I screamed out and suddenly everyone started looking at us.

"Jo please don't make a scene but I really need to leave. Don't get mad at me. My parents were going to pick us up at the station anyways. I'll give them a heads up that it will only be you for right now. I will come back I promise." He kissed me chastely on the lips and planted my ticket in my hands, before he bolted off. A few seconds later, I saw a dash of blue and red zipping through the skies off to save somebody. But honestly I was the only one needing saving. Clark said that his parents were sweet people and extremely easy to get along with but it made me curious because he was an only child and usually they was treated differently by their parents. But then again Clark didn't fit the description of an only child. The mechanical noises of the train pulled me out of my internal ranting and I slowly made my way into the train car. I plopped down on the seat and leaned my head against the cold window. It was important not to miss my stop so I pulled out my phone and set a time for the approximate time I would be getting off and shut my eyes.

The buzzing in my lap slowly but surely woke me up and I stretched as I looked around and realized we had stopped. I bolted upright when I realized I was already at my stop. Quickly grabbing my stuff I hurried off the train and tried to maintain my look of sanity by fixing my hair and clothes. I stood dumbly in the middle of the train station trying to search for Clark's parents when an elderly couple walked in holding a sign that said "Jovilette". I walked over to them smiling.

"Hi you must be Clark's parents. I'm Jovilette Valentine." They both pulled me into a hug and I was caught off-guard. I returned their squeeze and studied them when they pulled back. Martha had on a knee-length blue dress and only came up to my shoulder. She had sweet blue eyes and her hair was piled into a bun on top of her head. She had a gentle smile but I could already tell that she would be analyzing every little move I made. Jonathan was wearing jeans and a red flannel shirt. He was a couple inches taller than me and he seemed like a very easygoing man. It seemed like he was a gentle soul and from what Clark told me he was a great teacher. His eyes were a darker blue. I just smiled at them as Martha started laughing.

"Did you sleep good on the train dear?"

"I'm sorry what?" I asked dumbfounded.

"You have lines on your face." I started laughing but I wanted to cry. Of course I would have lines on my face, today just wasn't my day.

"Come on dear, let's get you home. Welcome to Kansas. I'm sure you know but I'm Martha and this is Jonathan. We're so glad to finally meet you. Clark always talks about you." Martha said gently while Jonathan interrupted.

"Clark says you're a riot, let's see if that's true!" He started howling and patted me on the back. I smiled as we made our way to their little pick up and I was squished in between the two of them and my knees were touching the dash.

"Did Clark tell you what was going on?" I looked at them hopeful.

"Yeah he told us there was there was something he needed to attend to in Metropolis. He didn't know how long he was going to be but we'll be sure to keep you entertained!" Jonathan grinned as we headed down the bumpy road towards their cute farmhouse.

"So this is where Clark grew up?" I asked dumbfounded. I knew he lived on a farm but this was literally in the middle of nowhere.

"Yep. Somewhat born but definitely raised here." When we got out of the car I was surrounded in gold. The fields gently swayed with the wind and I couldn't see anything around me except the farmhouse, barn, and all the golden wheat.

"It's so peaceful out here. This is beautiful." I said in awe.

"Oh thank you dear. I know it's nothing like the city. So where are you from?"

"I'm from Metropolis. I've lived there all my life. I don't mind the city but it's nice to get away sometimes. Have you guys always lived in Kansas?"

"We've been here for our entire lives but we like the gentle pace. I'm glad you were able to come over and see us. With Clark's busy schedule we never knew if we would see you. I'm just glad we were able to meet before you got married! Now come inside before my pie gets cold." She showed me to the kitchen of her house and gently nudged me down on a dining room chair.

"Um what makes you say that we're going to get married Mrs. Kent?" It was impossible to ignore the heat in my face and even more impossible to make it go away.

"Don't be silly dear call me Martha. I may be old but I know my Clark very well. You're the only girl he's brought home besides his childhood girlfriend, Lana. If Clark wasn't serious about you he wouldn't have brought you home, let alone come here by yourself." She patted my hand sweetly and slid over a piece of blueberry pie with melted vanilla ice cream on the top.

"I don't know what to say. I'm flattered, really. Clark met my mom in the beginning of our relationship and I swear she only calls me to hear about him now. She will be head over heels to know we could get married soon. I think you two would get along great. By the way this looks delicious. Thank you so much Martha." I smiled when I took a bite. I might have to come visit Clark's parents way more often if food like this was what I would eat. Sooner rather than later Jonathan came in with a rag and wiped the sweat off his forehead.

"Looks like the tractor should be fine now." He gently kissed Martha and sat down next to me while he had some pie as well.

"So did you go to school?" Jonathan asked after he swallowed his piece of pie.

"Yeah I went to Metropolis University. I went there to get my Master's and PhD too. They have one of the best biology programs in the country." I shrugged as I took another bite.

"You're a biologist?" Martha asked as she took the remaining seat.

"I'm a zoologist. I study the mammals at the Metropolis zoo. It's interesting work but one of these days I would love to go out into the wild and study animals in their actual habitat."

"You sound like a very smart girl. What do you like to do for fun besides study animals?" Martha asked curious.

"Well I love to read and there are certain shows I will watch. I also have a dog named Cobalt, he's a Great Dane. I take him for walks when I can but he's a couch potato so he can go for days without walks. Right now though I'm working with the Martian Manhunter." Both Jonathan and Martha looked at me confused so I cleared the air.

"Look I'm sure you guys know what happened with Darkseid?" When they nodded I sighed relieved. "Okay so I may have gotten powers from that. It's hard to describe so I could just show you. Is that okay?" They both looked nervous.

"Are you going to destroy anything?" I barked out a laugh when Martha asked that. I violently shook my head and then stilled as I tried to concentrate. J'onn and I had been working on not letting fear be the trigger but some other emotion. So right now we were working on love. So I tried focusing on the best memories with Clark and I heard both of his parents. I opened my eyes and I could see my reflection in Jonathan's glasses.

"Well I'll be damned." Jonathan muttered in awe.

"Jonathan that's rude! Sweetie that is beautiful! How amazing though." She touched my hand and frowned. "It doesn't feel any different." She more asked than stated.

"Yeah it's kind of weird. My body mass is significantly more but my skin is like stone. It reflects light and lasers. It's kind of weird. My skin is impenetrable too." I closed my eyes and tried to clear my mind and peeked my eyes open again and noticed that I was back to normal.

"Is it hard to go back and forth?" Jonathan asked worried.

"Not really. The first time it happened was when Batman scared me in my apartment and it didn't go down for an hour or so. But it's getting a lot better with practice." Martha began to look hopeful.

"So does this mean you will join the Justice League?"

"I'm honestly not at that point yet. I don't know how Clark hasn't been fired from his job yet but I can't risk mine just yet. I'm brand new to this whole 'mutant' thing and I don't know the first thing about being a hero. Maybe down the road I will try and join. But who knows." Martha was going to say something else but Jonathan put his hand on her arm and shook his head.

"We hope you will change your mind sometime down the road but if anyone knows how hard it is to be a superhero it's Clark. We've seen him go through so much with the job he does and you are right to be scared about that. But don't worry everything will work out in the end, honey."

We all jumped when we heard the door gently open and Clark walked through the door. He was holding a bottle of wine and a pizza box.

"Sorry I'm so late. I brought pizza so you wouldn't have to cook Ma." I watched as he walked kissed his Ma on the cheek and then hugged his father. His arms enveloped me from behind the chair and I felt his lips press against my temple. He looked super apologetic but I would easily forgive him in exchange for a glass of his wine.

"So what have you guys been talking about?" He asked with a little hesitation.

"Don't worry honey we haven't told any embarrassing stories… yet." Martha said with a quick grin.

"Don't worry though we still have time." I said with an evil look on my face. "I'm sure there are hundreds of them." We all started laughing but Clark and he didn't look too happy. "Oh please you can listen to mine but I can't listen to yours?" He started chuckling and then asked where they wanted him to sleep.

"Clark you're almost thirty, we don't expect you two to sleep in different rooms. Aren't you two living together?" His mom asked.

"Well yeah but I just thought I would ask. It is your house after all." He said nicely.

"Nonsense. Go show the girl your room. It was nice to meet you Jovilette we will see you tomorrow morning." She said with a smile and I told them goodnight as I made my way up the creaky stairs. I followed Clark into his old room and he shut the door once I was inside.

"Jo I am so sorry about what happened."

"Don't worry about it." I said simply.

"I feel awful." I rolled my eyes.

"Clark, please don't apologize. Once I knew who you really were I knew what the fine print in this relationship was. You are a hero and you need to save people. I completely understand. If it means you dipping out on dates and other things, that's fine. As long as I am the one you come home to, it doesn't matter how long it takes to do what you need to do." I plopped down on his little full-sized bed and watched him stand there with his arms crossed.

"I don't deserve you, you know?"

"Are you joking? Would you stop saying things like that? I love you Clark and I also love Superman and I also love Kal El. I know what it takes to be with you and I know that the benefits of being with you far outweigh the negatives. Calm down. You did nothing wrong." I pulled him over to the bed and made him sit down next to me. I kissed him long and hard. My hands flew to his face and made him look at me.

"Please don't say things like that. It scares me. Whenever you say that kind of stuff it makes me think you're going to dump me."

"I would never do that to you again. You're one of the best things that's ever happened to me so I won't let you go again. I promise. We were just talking about marriage remember?" He smiled at me and pulled me down on the bed with him. Pulling me against his chest I giggled as we hit the bed.

"When are we going to finish our conversation about marriage?" I don't know why I was shy about this but I definitely was.

"Now?" He suggested.

"Alright, when will this happen?" I asked nervously.

"Hmm maybe I should have given this more thought." I flicked his nose.

"Would you want a small wedding or a big one?" He asked me.

"I don't know that's kind of hard. Is it weird I've always wanted to elope and be secretly married for a year or so and then have a normal wedding?" I saw his eyebrows rise at that.

"Really?" He questioned.

"That's probably not what you would want so let's not do that."

"No I kind of like that idea. It will be easier that way adjusting to married life in secret. Let's do that. Now where do you want to get married?"

"Nope it's your turn to answer."

"How about Hawaii? I've always wanted to vacation there." I smiled.

"Hawaii it is. Now it's just a matter of when." Suddenly the ceiling became very interesting to look at.

"It'll happen in time." He pulled me into him again and kissed my forehead. "Come on let's get to bed, I'm exhausted." He said.

"Hey you never told me why you had to leave."

"A boy was about to jump off a building because his parents died in a car accident last week. I talked him out of it." He said it so simply my heart fluttered.

"You are my hero." For me those words said it all. And apparently they said it all for him too.
