I finally got the inspiration to write the next chapter. I know it's been over a month since I last updated and I'm sorry about that. I've been busy with blood work and doctor's appointments every week. The days I don't have to do either of those I play Minecraft with friends. But finally I mustered up enough motivation to write this chapter. I actually wrote chapter 28 a long time ago but scrapped it because it was just god awful. It's still on my computer but it will never be released. It's just too awful.

Anyway I hope you like this chapter, sorry if it's a little short or boring. Most of the fun action stuff is over with. These last few chapters just tie up loose ends, I can't just stop because all the fun parts are written.

Again, thank you everyone for the favorites, follows, and reviews. They make me really happy and with all the stress I'm going through right now I need that little burst of joy. Thank you all for reading and I hope you enjoy this chapter.

See you in the next one!

Chapter 28

Edward and the colonel stared at each other in silence for a few moments. They could hear Alphonse in the kitchen frantically talking on the phone, though the wall between them muffled the words. A sudden twinge of pain caused Ed to flinch and Mustang looked at him in alarm.

"Are you alright?" He asked, looking Ed over.

"My whole body hurts." He hissed through gritted teeth, wincing as the colonel gently pushed him off of his lap.

"Let me get you something for that," He said as he stood. "I had the same pain after the transmutation." Edward watched the man walk towards the kitchen. By the limp in his walk he could tell that he was still in pain. Before Mustang could set foot in the room Al blocked his way.

"What have I told you about exerting yourself?" He said sternly, putting his arm around the colonel's shoulders and guiding him back to the couch.

"Edward's in pain." He groaned as the armor pushed him gently onto the couch next to him.

"Then I'll get him something for it," Alphonse said sternly, crossing his arms. "You're not completely healed either."

"I'm fit enough to walk to the kitchen!" Mustang snapped, though Ed could tell by his occasional twitches that Al was right. He held his tongue as his brother sighed and began to walk back towards the kitchen.

"You stay there and keep an eye on brother." He said over his shoulder as he disappeared into the kitchen. Ed looked over at the colonel who was now leaning against the couch with his eyes closed.

"Your brother worries too much." Mustang's eyes opened and his gaze slowly drifted towards him.

Ed smiled, "Now you know how I feel when I get hurt." He rasped, shifting so he was leaning against the couch's armrest.

"I hate being fussed over." The colonel growled, turning to face him. He grabbed one of the blankets that had fallen onto the floor and tucked it around Ed. If he wasn't in so much pain he would have taken the blanket himself but he had little strength to argue.

He closed his eyes, feeling sleep dragging at him. He was still so tired even though he had been unconscious for days. Ed would have fallen back to sleep if Al hadn't shook his shoulder, rousing him slightly.

"Brother, how are you feeling?" He held out two small, white, pills. Edward took them and placed them in his mouth, somehow managing to swallow them even though his throat was dry.

"Like shit." He shook as pain grasped at him. Al held out a glass of water that he must have brought in along with the pills. Ed gratefully took it and held it to his lips with shaking hands.

"The lieutenant said she'd be over tomorrow after work to visit." Alphonse said as Edward sipped at the water. "She said she's bringing someone with her but she wouldn't tell me who."

"Do you think you'll be up for that Edward?" Mustang asked, looking at him with worry in his gaze. Ed put the half empty glass on the table and returned the colonel's stare.

"Sure." He said simply, gritting his teeth as another wave of pain washed over him. Mustang eyed him wearily as Al began to speak.

"Brother, do you want me to take out the IV?" Ed looked down at his hand, suddenly remembering that there was a needle inside his body. He shivered as he looked at his brother.

"Yes please. You know I can't stand needles." As Al moved to take the needle out he closed his eyes, wincing at the small pinch he received as it was removed.

"It seems unnecessary now that you're awake." Al said as Ed opened his eyes. He looked down at the small hole in his hand and felt queasy.

"I don't like needles as well. " He was distracted by the colonel, who was staring at him sympathetically. Al quickly taped a bit of gauze over the needle mark. He then stood up and looked down at his brother.

"Are you hungry? I can make you some soup." Ed gagged at the thought and shook his head.

"No thanks, not right now. Just let me rest for a little while." Al nodded and looked over at Mustang.

"I'm not hungry either." He said before the armor even had the chance to ask.

"You haven't eaten in days though." Al said with a small, frustrated, huff.

"My body is in too much pain to even consider it." Ed began to close his eyes. As he leaned against the couch he felt gentle arms surround him. He opened them to see Mustang pulling him closer, letting Edward lean against him.

"I don't know about you but I've been so cold after the transmutation." The colonel answered though Ed had never intended to ask. He knew that wasn't the real reason he wanted Ed so close but right now he also wanted to be close to someone.

"I'll watch over you while you rest." Mustang's whisper was little more than a breath of air. Edward closed his eyes and drifted into a dreamless sleep.
