Chapter 28: Was jetzt?

Ludwig's heart couldn't stop racing as Elizabeta left the green house. She knew. She knew Feliciano's secret. Even though she said she was joking about handing him and Lovino over to scientists he still worried that it was a possibility. Elizabeta seemed so serious about selling then that it had scared him. When she called Feliciano not human a large part of him wanted to punch her in the face. It was a good thing that he had hesitated to do so. It was true that Feliciano wasn't normal but he was still a person. He was someone he loved very much.

"Ludwig?" Feliciano asked,touching his shoulder.

He turned towards Feliciano without a word. He glanced at those caramel eyes, his auburn hair, his soft lips. This person in front of him was his reason for living. A person worth protecting until the end of time.

"Ludwig you're acting weird."

"Ich lieben dich." He whispered before placing their lips together. "We should go home." He said when the kiss ended.

"Okay."

Ludwig's senses felt more alert as they walked home. The things elizabeta said was really getting to him. Every little sound or movement in his peripheral vision made him worry.

"Stay close." He said taking lod of Feliciano's hand.

He was definitely shooked up and he knew Feliciano could tell.

"Ludwig calm down please. You're hurting me."

"Es tut mir lied." He said letting go of Feliciano's hand.

"There's no reason to worry. Elizabeta won't say anything." Feliciano said, rubbing his hand.

Ludwig wished he could be more like Feliciano, more trusting of people. Elizabeta was his friend but he wasn't close enough to seel secure about fact he wasn't close to ant of his friends enough to trust them complerely . he'd always felt that they were more of Gilbert's friends than his. He couldn't trust anyone ,sometimes not even himself.

"you really should stop acting weird or fratello will know something is wrong."

Feliciano was right. Ludwig couldn't help thinking if that was the solution to the problem. If Lovino knew what happened then he would deal with the situation. On the other hand he didn't want to face the wrath of Lovino, especially if it meant a hard time for Feliciano. For now he had to calm himself. When the moment was right he would know what to do. or so he hoped.

Gilbert felt confident that he could stop interfering in Lovino's And Antonio's love life and focus on his own. After giving the last piece of advice to Lovino he was able to spend the rest of the school day thinking of Matthew. Due to his busy work schedule it was only at school that he could really dedicate time for Matthew. Matthew said that he didn't mind that. Even a second alone together was worth it. Whole heartedly he wanted to invest in their to bring him flowers and shower him with gifts, however he didn't really have money to do those things.

"I'm sorry I can't afford to give you things." He said on the walk home.

"Love isn't about gifts."

"I know. Still it would be nice to give you something every once in awhile."

"You don't need to. I just want to spend time together."

"how about you stayover sometime?"

"What?"

"It will be nice. You can come over to my house, I cook dinner and we wouldn't have to worry about getting you back home early. "

"I….I don't know about that." Matthew said ,ears turning pink.

He loved Matthew's cute reactions. He was so innocent that sometimes it felt like he was bullying him into things.

"I won't do anything you don't want me to."he whispered into Matthew's ear.

" I Have to ask my parents."

"That won't be a problem."

Ever since the first dinner at Matthew's house Matthew's parents had started to accept their relationship. He felt more and more included whenever he stopped by or dropped off Matthew. It wasn't easy to get to the first step of approval and there was no guarantee that they would allow Matthew to stay overnight, but it was something he was ready to ask.

"we can ask them together. If you would want to. I would prefer to ask them in person if that is alright with you. I don't want to do anything you're uncomfortable with."

"yes...I mean..I would like to stay over..I'm just nervous of what they might say."

"I am too. No matter how many time I go to your house I still get nervous seeing your parents."

"Could we ask them today?"

"You sure you want to have that conversation now?"

"I don't really, but I feel that if I don't ask now I never will."

"If you say so." He said continuing on their way to Matthew's house.

The walk to Matthew's house seemed faster than before. As nervous as he felt he knew Matthew was worse off. Matthew was an obvious mix between frightened and anxious. It was as if at any moment he would burst into tears and fall apart.

"Be strong for him." He told himself as they neared the door. "May I have your keys?"

With all the shaking there was no way that Matthew could unlock the door with his unsteady hands. Even as the keys were passed between them they fumbled in his grasp.

"Everything will be fine." He said holding onto Matthew's hand for a moment. "I hate to find out how you'll be when I ask you to marry me." He laughed.

"What?!" Matthew said even more startled now.

"I'm sorry. Just breathe." He said as he opened the door.

"Matthew is that you?" Matthew's mother called, making them jump.

"Yes." Matthew squeaked. "Gilbert is here too."

"Tell him to come in and say hello before he leaves. I'm in my office."

"So far so good." He thought.

He followed Matthew into his mother's office space as he mentally prepared for the worst.

"Hello Gilbert."Matthew's mother said before turning away from her computer.

"Hello." He smiled.

"Matthew what's wrong?"

"Nothing." Matthew said as he avoided her eyes.

"Gilbert?" Matthew's mother asked in a stern voice and a raised eyebrow.

"He is nervous because we wanted to ask you and your husband something."

"Oh really?"Matthew's mother asked not taking her eyes off of her son. " My husband will be home soon."

"I wouldn't mind waiting if it is alright with you."

"Very well. You may help the boys with dinner as you wait."

"Thank you. We will leave you to your work."

Gilbert felt like he could breathe again once they had distanced themselves from the office space.

"That wasn't so bad." He sighed in relief.

"She's definitely suspicious."

"Don't worry let's get your bruder so we can start on dinner."

Together they made their way to Alfred's room. He knocked once. Twice. And after no response he opened the door.

"What the Bloody HEll."Arthur yelped as the door opened.

Gilbert was slightly shocked by the sight of Alfred laying on the bed with his hands tied to the headboard and Arthur straddling on top of him. Both were shirtless though still had their jeans on.

"You're lucky it was just me." He said unable to hide a smirk.

"What the hell are you doing here?"Arthur asked.

"I came to help you two make dinner. We will see you downstairs when you're done. And word of advice lock the door next time." He said as he slowly closed the door.

"I can't believe that happened...I mean what they were doing..."Matthew mumbled as his face turned a bright red.

"Way too innocent." He thought. "It could've been worse."

"I've only seen them kiss before. I..I didn't know they did that... I don't know if I can look at them the same now."

Although Matthew's reaction was cute it worried him a little. If something so minor of seeing those two shirtless made Matthew fluster how was he going to react to spending alone time together. Gilbert didn't want Matthew to stay the night solely to do more couple activities, but he would be lying to himself if he said he wasn't thinking about it. He could handle not having a sexual relationship with Matthew. He simply wanted a more intimate relationship. If that meant Matthew was having second thoughts he would respect them regardless of how he felt.

A few moments later Alfred and Arthur joined them in the kitchen. Neither one of them seemed nervous about the situation, although Arthur avoided Gilbert's gaze for a little while. More than anything he wanted to make jokes about walking in on them, but he knew it wasn't the time or place for such inappropriate comments. Instead they all focused on making dinner in nearly silence.

"Will someone say something!" Alfred complained. "You walked in on us so what's the big deal?"

"Alfred you should keep your mouth shut." Arthur warned.

"It's not like we did anything...to nervous to finish."Alfred mumbled.

"Well excuse me for not thinking strictly with my dick!"Arthur spat.

"Could we please stop talking about this!" Matthew said, still unable to look at anyone.

"I'm sorry for the way we acted."said Arthur.

"Boy's what's for dinner?" Mr. Jones asked as he entered the dining room. "Gilbert? I'm surprised to see you here."

"I apologize for dropping in uninvited, but I wish to speak with you and your wife."

"We can talk over dinner. I'm glad that you're here though;I always get nervous when those two are left alone in the kitchen." Mr. Jones said motioning to Arthur and Alfred.

"I'll keep an eye on them sir."He joked.

"Very good." Mr. Jones said before disappearing into Mrs. Jones' office.

"So what is it you wanted to talk to us about?" Mrs. Jones asked shortly after everyone sat down at the dinner table.

The suddenness of the question made him nearly choke.

"Are you intentionally trying to kill him?" Alfred said as he patted Gilberts back.

Through coughing and being slapped on the back, which made things worse, he tried to catch his breath.

"Beat me to the punch ."

"I don't like to beat around the bush when it comes to you. Whatever it is obviously is having an affect on Matthew."

Her serious tone worried him, but he knew that she was a very worried mother.

"I will get straight to the point then. I would like your permission for Matthew to have overnight stays at my house in the nearby future."

The room turned eerily quiet as he finished talking.

"Excuse me?"

"Would it be alright if Matthew spent the night at my house occasionally?"

"I'm not sure that is a good idea. We have allowed you to have dinner together at your home."

"And I am grateful to have a few dinners together, however it always seems rushed since he needs to return home at a respectful hour."

"I'll be frank. I do not like the idea of you two being alone together at night. I still have doubts of Matthew going over any time of the day." said Mrs. Jones.

"I respect your concerns though I do not see the cause of them."

Gilbert wasn't liking how this was going. All he could do was be careful with his wording. This was a big step and it mattered how this issue was dealt with.

"It is not as though we are being unfair. Alfred and Arthur don't have permission to spend the night together.

"But they..."Matthew spoke up.

"Shut up."Alfred said nervously.

"ALFRED!"Mrs. Jones said taken aback. "Well... regardless it's not right for you two to spend the night together."

"I still don't see how it isn't right." He said.

"We don't know you well enough. You two barely know each other. You must realize that we still have doubts to your motives of being with our son."

"And you must realize that the basis of your distrust rest on false accusations against me. You know that I'm not the person people say I am,yet you still hold some truth to those ideas. I don't want to defend my character every time we meet, but I understand your hesitation and doubt. My life may not be like yours and I don't have parents, yet I work hard to support my family the best I can. And I love your son. I wouldn't do anything to hurt him or force him into a situation he is uncomfortable with."

Gilbert held his ground. He wasn't going to walk out on this discussion and he hoped neither would they.

"Arthur I apologize for things getting out of hand." Mrs. Jones saying as she got up from her seat.

"Alfred and Matthew we will have a discussion after you eat." Mr. Jones said following his wife.

"Once Gilbert and Arthur have finished eating please walk them out. And so there is no confusion to your request the answer is no."

With that Matthew's parents left leaving an uncomfortable silence.

"Scheiße."
