Chapter 28

A/N Is anyone else sick of winter? I've had a gross cold for a few days now and I'm blaming it on winter. I miss shorts and sunshine. And free time. And sleep. And people. (Haha that's a lie, I hate people.) Anyways, the battle is finally here!

Christine Dalenn: Haha we decided it was time to incorporate the title finally considering there's only three chapters left (including this one).

Bienvenue a Bikini Bottom: Hopefully this lives up to your expectations!

Professor Radar: I agree with you. Anyone could have destroyed the horcruxes (Dumbledore even did destroy some of them) so theoretically anyone could have killed Voldemort. I think it was Voldemort's own fault though that it was all about Harry because he became so focused and obsessed with the fact that there was a specific person out there that he couldn't take it out of his mind.

Amar 2: I've been waiting to write this fight for so long you have no idea.

delenda est c: As always, you're welcome.

At first, no one dared to move. The Death Eaters looked expectantly towards their Master, waiting for a sign to begin their attack. On the other side, Albus, James, Sirius, Mad-Eye and Severus stood just as still, not wanting to make the first move.

"I will give you one last chance, Severus Snape," Voldemort said, "Turn yourself over and give me the boy, and no one else needs to get hurt. Give in to me."

"You're lying." Severus said quietly but sternly, as if he were lecturing a child on a wrong doing. He was almost eerily calm as he continued, "I could give in to you and everyone would still get hurt. But I won't. I will never give up. I will fight."

With that, Voldemort's face disfigured into a horrific sneer and he raised his wand with a yell that was echoed by his army. The two opposing armies began running towards each other, and soon the whole field was flashing with lights from all wands and there was a constant roar of voices from the many spells being yelled across at the other side.

The Order quickly moved into their planned battle groups, firing spell after spell into the hoards of Death Eaters approaching. Severus found himself face to face with Avery and the two of them immediately began to duel. Out of the corner of his eyes he could see Remus and his team begin their attack and more and more spells began to fill the air. As he continued to fight, he tried to find where Voldemort and Bellatrix had gone, knowing that he was their main target. Within a few minutes, Severus shot a curse at Avery and he fell unconscious to the ground. Without waiting, Severus continued to run into the heart of the battle, trying to find Albus who was most likely with either Bellatrix or Voldemort.

"Where's your baby, Potter?" Severus heard and he whirled to his left. James and Sirius stood side by side as Bellatrix taunted them, her wand pointed at the pair.

"You will never touch my son," James said and Severus had to admire his bravery; there wasn't a trace of fear in his voice.

"Your son will die for the will of the Dark Lord!" Bellatrix screamed and she cast a spell which Sirius quickly deflected.

"If you want my godson you will have to go through me first, cousin," Sirius replied. "Avada Kedavra!" James and Sirius began dueling furiously with Bellatrix who didn't look like she was having much trouble. Severus knew he should help, but he had to get to Voldemort.

He continued to run and he racked his mind. Where would his old Master be? Around him, Death Eaters continued to fall to the ground, whether they were unconscious or dead he didn't know. All he knew was that Voldemort had to be destroyed.

"Re-Remus, please don't hurt me." Severus turned to his left and saw Peter Pettigrew and Remus at a standoff.

"Don't tell me what I should and should and shouldn't do," Remus said, his voice hard. Peter's face tried to twist into what Severus assumed used to work to bring pity. But Remus didn't even flinch.

"I know you are mad at me," Peter started and he tried to move closer but Remus held his wand higher and Peter stopped. "But what would they say if you hurt me? James an-and Sirius. They wouldn't forgive you."

"You betrayed them you coward!" Remus screamed and before Peter could try and defend himself, Remus took one step forward and screamed, "Expelliarmus!" Peter fell back from the impact and Remus caught his wand. As Remus walked closer, Peter held up his arms over his head, begging softly. Remus grabbed the front of his shirt and yanked him into a sitting position.

"How you were ever sorted into Gryffindor is beyond me but I now know why you were never considered for Hufflepuff. You don't have an ounce of loyalty in you," Remus said and he pulled Peter closer, mere centimeters separating them. "James and Sirius took you in when you had no one and this is how you repay them. I would rather die than betray my friends," he spat out and dropped his shirt. "Get out."

"Oh, thank yo-"

"I said get out." Peter got up and immediately scurried away. Remus though, stood still at the spot his last was. Severus hurried over to him and threw a protective spell up over the two of them as another Death Eater tried to attack.

"Battle now, think later," Severus said and Remus nodded before heading towards the think of the fighting.

Suddenly a spell shot at Severus and it barely missed his head. He quickly raised his wand and turned to meet the conjuror and was met by a familiar face.

"Ah, Severus," Lucius said, his wand still raised.

"I see you still need to hide behind a mask to fight," Severus said curtly.

"At least I'm fighting for the right side," Lucius replied.

"I'm not so sure about that." Silently, Severus cast Expelliarmus which Lucius deflected easily. "So are you going to raise your son to be a Death Eater?" Severus asked. "What's his name again, Draco?"

"You know very well what his name is, you've met him, traitor." Lucius snarled.

"And you know mine."

"You betrayed the Dark Lord! You defied your Master!"

"No, I refused to be controlled, by anyone."

"The Dark Lord wants to kill you himself, but he didn't say I couldn't torture you first. Crucio!"

Severus' being was enveloped in sudden, unbearable pain. He barely registered the feeling of the wet grass on his back as he withered in pain. Then, as quickly as it started, it stopped. He pushed himself up and looked over to where Sirius was now standing, Lucius on the ground by his feet, unconscious.

"Thank you." Severus said.

"Don't thank me yet, we aren't even close to done." And with that the two of them rejoined the battle.

Spell after spell was shot at Death Eater after Death Eater. It seemed as though that for everyone he managed to make unusefull in a fight, two more came in their place. The people around him changed constantly as well. First it was Sirius, but he ran after a Death Eater approaching James from the back and he was gone to be replaced with Albus. Albus and Severus fought well side by side but after a new group of Death Eaters approached from a different angle the group was adjusted and Snape was fighting with Frank on one side and Remus on the other.

The Order was doing well though. Despite the odds and the ratio of Death Eaters to Order members, they were holding their own. True to their word, the Order did there best not to kill any of the Death Eaters too. For some reason, this touched Severus. He didn't dwell on it though, keeping his mind focused on the fight.

In front of Severus, a group of Death Eaters made up of other groups that had fallen were approaching led by Yaxley. Yaxley looked furious and where he caught Severus' eye his face turned to utmost hate and Severus had to look away. The group charged towards the group of Order members and they quickly adjusted their position that ended up with Severus and Sirius in the front of the group. They charged towards the Death Eaters and soon spells were being fired in every direction.

"Snape!" Yaxley screamed and he began making his way over to Severus, pushing Frank out of the way as he did so.

Then, two things happened and everything went wrong. First, On Severus' right side Sirius was fighting with his cousin, Bellatrix. They were battling hard and Sirius was forced to take a step back and Severus had to move out of the way. Consecutively, Severus re-entered Yaxley's line of sight after he moved, so Yaxley shot a spell.

The green light hit the man, and it had so much force behind it the man flew backward a little as he fell. His black hair half covered his face as he lay motionless on the damp ground. James looked over and immediately ran over to the man, tears streaming down his face.

"No!" James cried into the battle, completely audible despite the noise around him.

Severus, too, was in shock as he looked at the body of Sirius Black laying motionless on the ground.

Frank ran over to James, also crying, but picked up the body of the fallen warrior to remove it from the battle. James followed, protecting him as he took away his best friend.

Severus looked over at Remus, who was also crying.

"Battle now, think later." Remus said. Severus nodded, and the fight began again with new fury. The Order was fighting with everything they had left for their fallen friend.

Out of the corner of his eye, Severus saw a flash of wild, black hair whip past the battle towards the castle. Without hesitation he tore after her.

Bellatrix Lestrange was not going to kill Lily.
