I mean after all he is a monster? Well sort of. Anyways here is another chapter! I hope you all enjoy, let me know in the reviews how you feel! This one is probably not for the best, but David has some inner demons he needs to overcome. Thank you to all who read, review, or follow. I love you all!
David internally moaned at the sight of Charlie's hard set eyes and firm pressed lips. "Does he live here now?" He muttered to Leah. Leah tried to suppress her laughter with a hand and used her other free arm to pull David towards the house. He ran his fingers down his shirt to smooth the creases, and then attempted to push back his messy hair.
"Midnight," Charlie repeated as he tapped his watch. He turned his wrist to reveal the time to David, as if he expected David to be shocked to see the time read half past ten. "Curfew was midnight, not 10:30." David watched the small twitches of Charlie's mustache as he tried to hold in his anger. It amused him to see the grown man infuriated. If only he knew all the secrets.
"We ran late?" David tried, "we lost track of time?" He threw that one out there as well. What did Charlie expect him to say? 'Oh yeah gramps, we had so much fun last night doing it that we decided to stay out.' Charlie had to know what they did. Coming home in the same clothes with dirt covering them should had been one clue. He wasn't going to come out and just say it.
"Try again," Charlie growled back at David. David could feel the warmth begin to radiate in his cheeks at the glaring demeanor. Charlie did want him to admit it. David cleared his throat.
"We are young," He begin what felt like a long, useless speech.
"And?" Charlie gestured for him to continue his list of faults.
"Stupid? Immature? Naïve? You got to let me know where you want this to go."
"You aren't my father," Leah interrupted. She intertwined her fingers with David's and pulled him to the porch. David gritted his teeth as he truged behind her. Each step closer they got to Charlie, the less David felt like he could breath. "I can look after myself."
"I never said you couldn't," Charlie objected. "Just looking out for you is all." Charlie grumbled low enough that only David could pick it up. David felt guilt flood his body at the sight of Charlie. He was just trying to fill in for Harry, to give Leah a father figure. David tried to picture himself in the same position. He would have been pissed like Charlie if his daughter came home the next day.
"Look, Charlie I am sorry," David rubbed the back of his neck. He was never good at apologizes, as he never had to apologize before. "It is all my fault. She is so beautiful that I didn't want to miss a moment with her."
"You two were at least safe right?" Charlie leaned back from David.
Safe? Leah and David exchanged a quick look. "We are young but not stupid," David assured him and he could see Charlie breath a sigh of relief.
"Good," he stood there and the awkwardness began to settle between the three of them. "Well you better get inside, your mother was worried sick about you." Charlie walked down the steps towards his cruiser. "And David?"
David turned towards the man with a curious look.
"Bring her home at midnight next time."
David gave him a small nod and watched Charlie drive his cruiser out of the driveway. "Safe," David brought the topic back up. "We were safe," it sounded like a statement but David began to question.
"Never happens on the first time, David," Leah kissed his lips causing David to drop the topic.
"Well good morning to you two," Sue called from the kitchen as David and Leah sat down at the table. The table was covered with various kinds of muffins, eggs, juices, and meats. David looked down at the table with hunger. Leah handed him a plate, and he began to pile it full of food. "Charlie was worried about you guys all night." David shifted in his seat at Charlie's name. "He is not that bad," Sue laughed at the sight of David.
"You should have heard him," Leah groaned, and David nodded in agreement.
"Well you guys were out late," Sue shrugged her shoulders pretending to drop the topic.
"Yeah what were you guys doing?" Seth chuckled as he strolled into the kitchen. He leaned across the pair of them to pick up several muffins. David looked down to hide his blushing face, and quickly shoved food in his mouth to avoid talking. Leah made a similar attempt but Seth was persistent. "So Leah," he lowered his body so they were similar in height, "what was it you did that took all night and morning?" A wide smile formed on his face at the sight of Leah's red cheeks. "O-" a cracking sound, followed by Seth gasping made David's eyes bolt upright. Seth clutched his nose, his fingers slowly began to drip in the deep red liquid. "You broke my nose!" Seth shouted as he waved his bloody hand around, flinging blood onto Leah. Sue walked over with a rag handing it over to Seth.
"Calm down," Leah growled, "it is already healed."
"Not the point," Seth took the rag and held it to his bleeding body part. "It was just a joke Leah."
David bit his tongue. Reasons like this made him love Leah even more. She was bad ass, independent, and undoubtedly could hold her own against anyone. Leah stood to help her brother clean up his messy face. She looked at Seth with annoyance. She got close to him and whispered harshly, "don't even think about it Seth. I swear, you tell anyone," her threat ended there, but by the wide eyes of Seth told David he got the message. The young boy nodded briskly, in fear of Leah.
"It still hurt," Seth whined when Leah finished cleaning him up. He pulled out a chair next to David. "You didn't even stop her," Seth began piling his plate full of food, as if it was his last meal.
"Have you seen her?" David gestured towards Leah who was picking at her food with such elegance that you wouldn't think she could ever harm anyone. "She went easy on you," David patted Seth's back. The three of them continued to eat their food in silence.
After breakfast was eaten and cleaned up, Sue decided to bring a lunch to Charlie and Seth ran off to play werewolf with Jacob. David lounged on the couch with Leah on his chest. He held her firmly with an arm, and the other made circular motions on her back. A movie played softly in the background. It was Leah's choice. One of those soppy romance movies, which was surprising to him. She seemed like more of the war and gun type, with massive amounts of killing and no one survives. Yet, they sat on the couch watching a woman fling herself into the arms of a man she so loved. Well, Leah did at least. David focused on her. He watched her bite her lip, and scrunch her forehead taking a fistful of David's shirt in the process. Leah would then slowly ease up, relaxing her face, then lightly removing the pressure on his shirt. "Did you see that?" Leah looked up at David, she pointed to the screen and David lazily looked over.
"Yeah, yeah. The girl and the guy." What were they watching again? He had to focus hard to take in the entire scene. Why was the woman crying?
"You weren't even watching," Leah pouted and David felt his heart break at the sight. He leaned in and kissed her softly on the lips.
"I promise I will now," he tried to turn his attention to the screen, but other topic began to form in his mind. The most persistent of them all was how he was going to explain his trip to Leah. What was he even seeking after in Italy? Closure? As if Aro somehow had all the answers he needed. David crafted multiple scenarios in his mind. He just got Leah back, and he wasn't sure if he was ready to lose her again.
"What are you thinking about?" Leah brought his out of his haze.
"The movie," David turned his attention back to the movie to discover the title page on the screen. It was already over.
"What are you actually thinking about," Leah stared right into his eyes, searching for an answer. His stomach fell at the thought of ruining such a perfect day.
"Italy," he was surprised as the word slipped from his lips. Leah's face went blank. She climbed up off him, and sat up on the couch.
"When are you leaving?" Her voice cracked.
"I haven't really deci-"
"When are you leaving?" Her interrupted him. Her voice was angry, and tears slid down her face.
"In a couple of weeks," David sat up. He hated seeing her like this. He reached out to wipe away a tear, but Leah hit his hand away.
"So that is what it is?" She scoffed and stood from the couch, creating distance between the two. "A whole 'I love you,' then we do things together, then you just leave?" David sat in shock at her words. "Then just go! Go now, don't let me stop you!" She screamed at him.
"What are you talking about?!" David stood up. Where was she getting this all from?
"You and Sam are just the same! Going around screwing with people then tossing them aside as if they are nothing! I can't do it anymore! I don't want to have a life like this, where I am always second."
"Sam?" David questioned. "Leah, I am not leaving you to run off with another girl. Hell, I am leaving to only make myself better for you. I am broken, Leah. I am not normal. Normal people don't go out and have drinking binges on humans," he sucked in air at the confession. Horror and confusion was plastered on Leah's face. David just opened up another issue.
"Oh God David," she cried. "You know the treaty. You know Sam will take any chance to tear you bloodsuckers up. Yet, you still went out there and killed someone? Someone who lives here. Who was it?"
"She was nobody," David brushed it off.
"Who. Was. It," Leah's voice was low. She breathed in slowly to try and contain her anger. Her shoulder heaved as if the beast inside of her was ready to be released.
"She was nobody," David snarled. "She was from Italy. Nobody is going to miss her, God we killed plenty like her. Nobody cares."
"You are a monster," Leah whispered. "Just go," she waved him off. "Go and find your soul or whatever shit you are looking for out there. Just get the hell out of here."
"Leah," David begged but Leah growled at him.
"I said go!"
"She is right," Seth walked into the house wearing his shorts. David looked out the window to see the pack standing at the treeline. "You should go David." He walked over to Leah and wrapped his arms around his sister. Leah sobbed into his chest. David looked between Seth and Leah. What did he do? He was living such a perfect life. Why did he always screw people over? Without Leah he had nothing.
"Very well," he brushed his hair back with his fingers, and grabbed the keys. He walked over to the door, and turned back to Leah, "I do love you Leah, and that will never change. You are right though, I am a monster." He nodded a goodbye to Seth and walked out the door. He felt his heart tear as he walked away from the house. He could still hear the sobs of Leah and the hushing voice of Seth comforting her. It should be him comforting her, yet all he can do is cause her pain.
He paused outside of the car and stared into the house. "You should go David," Jacob walked over to the car followed by Sam and Paul. David sucked in a deep breath, and tossed the keys to Jacob.
"Take it back for me?" Jacob gave him a nod. David ran a hand across the car, as he walked towards the treeline where the others were standing. The other werewolves gave David deep growls. "And Jacob?"
Jake looked over from his spot next to the car. He raised an eyebrow, "yes?"
"I know you are going to already take care of Renesmee, but can you look after Leah?"
"Of course. Where are you going?"
David shrugged his shoulders. He felt like crying. He wanted to sit down and cry for hours. "I got nothing here anymore."
"You have your family, and you have Renesmee," Sam pipped up.
"Renesmee has Jacob, that is all she needs. And my family became a mess when I showed up. I think I will head back to Italy." He didn't let them respond but started to run. He could hear the howls of the wolves from Leah's house, but he did not stop running. He felt tears beginning to fly off his face. He didn't need to hold it in anymore. The trees flew by and his lungs began to burn. He wouldn't stop, wouldn't let his mind process what he just did. His legs began to ache, but he didn't care. He stopped outside of the airport, gasping for air and clutching his shaking legs. He wiped away his eyes as people began to stare. He walked into the airport, and headed straight for the bathroom.
The bathroom mirror displayed what he was feeling inside. His skin looked pale, and his eyes were bloodshot from crying. His face had various blotches of red, and dirt covered his shirt. Leaves stuck from his hair messy hair. His hands shook as he reached up to remove all the leaves. He used water to straighten out his hair, and then washed his face vigorously. It was moments like these that he was thankful for his half vampire side. He tried his face with paper towels. He had to act quick, lingering caused for the memories to come back up. He left the bathroom and, walked over to one of the many counters selling tickets.
"How can I help you?" The woman at the counter was young, mid- thirties. She looked David over, and leaned towards him. David scoffed mentally at her. Yet, this is what his breed was crafted for, luring in gullible women and men. He straightened himself up, pushing back his shoulders, and brushed the dirt off his shirt.
"I am looking for the next ticket Italy, to V olterra Italy," he gave her his best smile, and leaned in to the desk. She immediately looked flustered, and began rapidly tapping away at the keyboard.
"We have one that leaves in an hour?" Her voice cracked slightly, her eyes flickered across his face. He could hear her heart beak quickly.
"That will do," he smiled as he handed her a credit card.
"Alright, Mr.-" she looked down at the card. "Cullen, I will just get this all printed out for you." David tapped his fingers against the counter as he waited. "Is this a business trip?" The woman asked. "No bags to check on."
"Yes," he tried to sound calm. "Just there and back."
"Round trip?"
"No," he gave her a smile, "I am not sure when I will return exactly." The woman returned the smile and printed out his ticket. Gave gave her a wink and headed off for his flight.
Going through security was fairly easy considering he had nothing but what he was wearing. "Passport?" The man at security asked as he held out his hand. David's eyes grew wide. He didn't have a passport. He frantically patted around his pockets when he felt something in his suit. He reached inside, and pulled out a passport. Inside was a picture of him. Inside was a note, he pulled off the note and handed the passport to the man. The man stamped it and handed it back, calling for the next person in line. It wasn't until David settled down in a chair outside of his gate that he pulled out the note. The note was folded with his name printed across in black ink. He carefully opened it, to find it was from Alice.
'David,
You are going to need one of these if you plan on visiting Italy. I don't know why you are so determined to go, but I am sure it is for the right cause. I hope you find what you are looking for.
Alice'
David folded back up the note and tucked it away into his suit. Alice knew, but not the entire story. She couldn't have visions with the werewolves, so it was impossible for her to see his blowout with Leah. He rubbed his temples as thoughts of Leah began to emerge. This was going to be a long flight.
