Chapter 28
"It's different seeing things laying down on your bed." Kakashi said, looking up at the ceiling with his fingers laced behind his head.
"As opposed to falling asleep kneeling next to it?" Sakura asked, turning her head on her pillow to raise an eyebrow up at him.
"Yes, definitely. It's far less, how do you say?...Painful."
Sakura snickered at him.
"And this view isn't half bad either," Kakashi said, turning on his side to tuck Sakura's hair behind her ear before moving in to kiss her.
"No, it isn't," Sakura agreed, smiling back at him, but found herself looking into two dark eyes. Sharingan Kakashi was no more, and a wave of sadness filled her. That had been his greatest strength, his calling card. It was what had struck fear into the hearts of his most fearsome enemies, and now it was gone. Kakashi would always be a quick and agile ninja, and he would always be a great teacher, too, if he ever wanted to be one again, but he adamantly told her that Team 7 would be the last team he would ever teach. Maybe they had all been too much for him: The boy destined to be Hokage, the girl who became the Hokage's apprentice, and the boy who was the last living Uchiha who could never quite get rid of revenge from his heart.
"What is it?" Kakashi asked, seeing the sadness in her eyes.
"I'm sorry about this," Sakura said, rubbing her thumb gently over his eyebrow with the scar running through it before cupping his cheek in her hand.
Kakashi covered her hand with his.
"Don't be," he said. "I don't need it anymore anyway. The wars are over and my priorities are different now," he said, leaning in to kiss her again.
"I'm your priority now?" she asked, smiling at him.
"Well, you've always sort of been a priority of mine, but now you've made it to the top of the list," Kakashi said, kissing her. Then he gently caressed her naked outline from shoulder, to arm, to thigh, to knee before sliding his hand back up her inner thigh and cupping her between the legs.
Sakura smiled at him and opened up her legs wider for him, giving him easier access.
He brought the wetness from her opening up to her clit, making the small bud slippery and wet and easier for him to rub circles on it.
Sakura moaned and reached out to Kakashi, gently taking him into her hand and pumping him up and down.
Kakashi took his turn moaning and slid two fingers into her as a reward, pumping them in and out of her for a while before finally positioning himself between her legs and slowly lowering himself down onto her and penetrating her.
Sakura gasped. No matter how many times they had done this, that first thrust into her always took her breath away.
She wrapped her legs around Kakashi's legs as he began to slowly pump himself in and out of her for a second, third, and numerous more times.
After having done it so many times that they had both lost count, their lovemaking was noticeably more relaxed now, less hurried. The initial need to constantly jump each other's bones more or less out of their systems. They still made love, but it was no longer the drawn out sex marathons that they used to have at the beginning. Now they often made love at night because it helped them fall asleep. They also made love in the mornings when they were both off from work since they didn't have anywhere important to go anyway. Kakashi loved those mornings the best because he usually woke up hard anyway. Sakura had explained to him that it was all very normal, that he wasn't just being a perv. It was just his body's way of making sure that the blood continued to flow in that part of his anatomy while he slept. So, Kakashi favored their morning lovemaking sessions the best because it took care of his problem in the most natural and pleasurable way like it was doing right now.
They kissed opened mouth, their tongues gliding against each other, and Sakura trailed her hands down Kakashi's back in ecstasy as he continued to move relentlessly in and out of her. Then she trailed her hands further down his back until they reached his butt and squeezed it, making Kakashi quicken his pace, moving inside of her much harder and faster than before until he was mercilessly pounding into her.
Sakura gasped as she felt her inner muscles undulate strongly around him, but Kakashi continued to pound into her still, so she came a second time, right as Kakashi was shoving himself as hard and deep into her as he possibly could as he came inside of her.
After, Kakashi pulled Sakura into his arms and she laid her head against his chest, listening to his racing heart. Priorities indeed.
Later that day, they decided to take a stroll through the village. The weather was so beautiful that it seemed a shame to let it go to waste.
Sakura slid her arm through the crook of Kakashi's arm and rested her head against his shoulder as they walked. So what if she was acting clingy like Ino said she was? She and Kakashi were together now in more ways than one. They shared a bed together, they shared a home together, and she could quite possibly see herself spending the rest of her life together with him, too.
"You know that I love you, don't you?" Kakashi asked, kissing the top of her head.
"Of course I do," Sakura said smiling up at him.
"And that I would do anything for you?"
"Of course, and I would do anything for you, too."
"I know you would," Kakashi smiled softly at her, bringing her hand up to his lips and kissing it.
Sakura smiled back up at him. It was such a gentlemanly gesture. Of course Kakashi would think to do such a sweet, if a bit old fashioned thing, but when he let go of her hand, Sakura realized that he had slipped something into it.
"What's this?" Sakura asked laughing, but when she opened up her fist, she saw a ring sitting in the palm of her hand. The ring had a simple, thin silver band with one round pink diamond that was encircled by smaller white diamonds, all of which sparkled up at her, and because of the spacing of the smaller diamonds, the entire thing looked a little bit like a flower.
Sakura's heart raced and then raced even faster when Kakashi knealt down before her on one knee. She started unintentionally laughing and crying at the same time even before he asked the question.
"Haruno Sakura, will you do me the honor of marrying me?"
"Yes!" Sakura said, nodding her head enthusiastically.
Meanwhile, the people around them on the street who had stopped to watch them cheered and clapped for them. Some people were even taking pictures. It looked like the tabloids had just found something new to sink their teeth into.
Kakashi took the ring from Sakura's hand only to slip it onto her trembling finger. Then he stood up and pulled her into his arms, bowing his head down to kiss her and Sakura lifted her head up to kiss him back.
The people on the streets clapped louder. Some people whistled. Someone cupped his hands over his mouth and shouted "Yeah!"
Kakashi and Sakura parted lips and smiled at each other, then laughed at the crowd that they had drawn.
"I love you," Sakura said, hugging Kakashi tight.
"I love you, too. More than you could ever know," Kakashi said, kissing her on the top of her head.
They held each other for a minute longer then pulled away from each other, but not completely. They held each other's hand while their other hand waved to the still cheering crowd. They felt embarrassed about all the attention. For the longest time they had tried to avoid bringing any attention to themselves, then had simply given up and given everyone what they had wanted through massive amounts of PDA, and then they were forgotten, and now they were in the spotlight again. It was all a crazy ride.
"Thank you!" Kakashi and Sakura said smiling and waving at everyone one last time before continuing on their way and everyone else also started going back to their own business.
As Kakashi and Sakura walked together in a half embrace, Sakura couldn't help bringing her now ringed hand up in front of her face to admire it.
"I take it that you like the ring?" Kakashi asked, smiling down at her.
"Are you kidding me? I love it!" Sakura said.
"Glad to hear it. I had it custom made to represent the both of us: Silver for me, pink for you, and 10 small white diamonds to represent the 10 years that we've already known each other."
"Oh, Kakashi, I loved it before because it's so beautiful, but now I love it even more knowing what it means. Thank you!" Sakura said, wrapping her arms around his waist and hugging him tightly.
"So, it's 'Kakashi' now, is it?" Kakashi asked, smiling down at her.
"Well, I can't very well call my future husband 'sensei,' now can I?" Sakura asked, smiling back up at him.
"No, I guess not. Say my name again."
Sakura smiled playfully up at him. "Ka-ka-shi," she said slowly.
"I love how my name sounds when you say it like that," Kakashi said, kissing her again.
When they pulled away from each other, they were both a little dazed, so they couldn't quite understand what was going on around them. One by one, the people on the street around them started murmuring to each other and exchanging surprised looks. At first Kakashi and Sakura thought that it was because of their engagement, but then the people would suddenly take off in the direction of what seemed to be the Great Konoha Gates. Soon it wasn't just a few people at a time, but a flurry of people. It was turning into chaos.
"What is it? What's going on?" Both Kakashi and Sakura tried asking anyone who would stay long enough to answer their questions. And then finally-
"It's Uchiha Sasuke," someone said breathlessly. "He's come back."
To be continued...
