Ciel gazed out at the snow covered field for the final time. The winter breeze brushed against his face, though he was not bothered by the cold, he wrapped his arns around himself and turned his away from the wind.

"I suppose this is a good way to prepare, getting used to the cold, after all is that not what human life will be?" Ciel asked.

"It can be. As much as I would like to tell you otherwise." Michael said. Behind him, their brothers and sisters were arriving.

"Though winter was not chosen as a symbol of hardship and pain. It is a great honor bestowed only upon the chosen few. It is pure and peaceful." Grace added.

"Yes, I know. But all the same..." Ciel replied. "Now we wait then?"

"Yes. Your beast should be here shortly. He will bring with him his family. We will share a moment to say our final words and he will take your grace, sending you into the mortal world."

"Michael, what happens to it...after it's taken?"Michael bowed his head.

"It becomes a great source of nourishment to the beast. It will sustain him for quite some time and thus you will spare many mortals." Ciel shook his head.

"That's odd, isn't it?"

"Perhaps."

"So if he's just eaten...out of curiosity-"

"I have no answers beyond what I've told you my dear brother. Never before have I thought to ask, nor have I been present as I am with you."

"I understand." Ciel turned to the angels , tears filling their eyes as they slowly knelt in the snow before him.

"My dearest brothers and sisters, thank you for coming to see me off. I want to take a moment before Sebastian gets here because I don't believe there will be much afterward. I could ask nothing more than the love I've found in each of you and the lessons I've learned, I hold dear in my heart. I love you all. I know many of us had our differences but truthfully I am grateful to you all. To those of you that stood beside me on the battlefield, I thank you for your courage and I'm honored to have fought with you. May you continue to live long and never lose your bravery." Ciel paused.

"Dear sisters, you taught me patience and I wish that I could tell you that I could always keep with your teachings. I pray that you always remember our time together even after the memory fades for me. Take care of each other."

"Always, brother. Godspeed on your journey. May your beloved be a comfort to you in dark times, may he always cherish you and provide for you,.you have our eternal love." Ciel embraced each of them. It seemed mere seconds before Ciel felt the tap on his shoulder.

"They are here." Michael said softly. Ciel turned to see the demons standing a short distance away. Sebastian offered a sad smile as their eyes met briefly.

"Are you ready?" The older angel asked, Ciel nodded.

"Then we must go to them." Ciel felt somewhat relieved to know that it wouldn't be long before his pain was taken away, yet the sadness from his family broke his heart. The angels made their way across the field which would be filled with an array of colorful flowers once more in the spring. Ciel knew he would miss the visits with Michael. Even now he imagined the sunlit days running through the rows of flowers laughing with his brother.

Sebastian and his father met them half way. For a long moment not even the devil moved. Michael struggled to keep his composure.

"The day has come." The devil growled.

"It has. Though I may wish otherwise."

"I acknowledge you great sacrifice, angel. I see your broken heart quite easily. Parting is never without heartache. My mate tells me so, I know nothing of such things. As tradition states, my son will take the chosen one. An angel's grace...among many other things is the key to eternal life in heaven. As this is a difficult time for you, I will excuse the fact that you have not shown the proper respect yet again. You must say the words."

"Sebastian Michaelis, second son of the devil, today we honor our treaty and I-I offer the chosen angel, the one the world cannot be without, Heaven's most precious and highest ranking soldier, my brother Ciel. In exchange for this most precious gift, you agree to peace between the angels and your kind, ensuring the safety of the mortal world which is no longer to be used as your battlefield. You take only what is necessary and nothing more. You will respect and care for my brother properly and put his needs ahead of your own. Do you accept these terms?"

"I do. I thank you for your sacrifice. It is a tremendous loss for your kind. I assure you, he will be well loved."

"Go to him, Ciel." Michael instructed. Ciel reached for the his future mate and found himself being held close.

"Thank you." Ciel whispered in his ear. "Thank you for keeping your word."

"I will always come for you." Sebastian vowed. "I will hold you sacred in my life, you will be my only love for all my life, the one I can never be without. Whatever you may need, simply say so."

"Can you make all this a little less cold, it seems that my winter will last far longer than it should."

"I can do that, Ciel. I love you dearly."

"And I love you." Sebastian pulled away.

"The time has come dearest. Please take a moment to speak to your brother." Ciel immediately latched onto Michael.

"You've given me so much, so many wonderful memories, so much love. I hope we meet again one day. I love you very much. It hurts my heart to know I won't remember you."

"But I will remember you, Ciel. I will always love you. Take care brother." The brothers held onto each other for what seemed like forever. Ciel finally released him wiping away the tears.

"I-I'm ready, Sebastian." He announced. Sebastian reached for him, pulling him into his arms. The angels turned away, unable to watch.

"Will this hurt?" Ciel asked.

"A touch, only for a moment. I love you more than I've ever loved anyone or anything. I will be as gentle as I can." Sebastian lowered his head, pressing his lips to Ciel's.

"I will find you." He promised sincerely.

"I know you will, somehow we'll find each other, I belong to you."

"And I am forever yours. A promise has been made from our first kiss. I wish you all the happiness and love in the world." Ciel placed his palm on Sebastian's cheek.

"Until we meet again...Sebastian. Thank you for everything." With a heavy heart, the demon prince carried out his task and moments later, his beloved Ciel was gone.

Sebastian stood, in his hands an elegant flask held to his chest.

"The deed is done. Ciel will have no memories and I will see to my son."The devil announced. "We have no further business here. Come my son, let them grieve in peace." One by one the angels spread their wings and returned to their home until only Michael remained, gazing around at his surroundings.

"Angel." Sebastian called out. Michael turned.

"What more could you want from me?" The distraught angel snapped.

"I want nothing from you, rather to offer you one final gift." He placed the flask in Michael's hand loving.

"What is this?"

"Keep it well, Michael. Though it may not seem much, you hold in your hand our Ciel's grace. One day he may decide he wants to return home, I shall allow the path to remain open." Sebastian said before disappearing, leaving Michael puzzled in the snow.

7 years later...

Sebastian sighed, he watched the humans hurry through the streets of London. He lowered himself onto an empty crate in the alley.

"Bad day, Sir?" Cynna asked.

"You could say that."

"Perhaps you should settle down then. Find yourself a good mate and you will no longer need contracts." Sebastian ran his fingers through his now brown hair.

"This one is by far the most taxing. I just wish they-" Sebastian was interrupted by an object colliding with his arm. He turned to find a ball lying beside him. A young girl with blonde curly hair appeared, stopping short of the shadows.

"I'm very sorry, Sir. It got away from me." She called, her emerald eyes sparkled brilliantly. She seemed to make a point of avoiding direct eye contact.

"It's quite all right. You needn't be afraid." Sebastian said softly, rising from the crate and lifting the ball into his hands. He slowly approached her and bent down to return the toy.

"Th-thank you." She said.

"Elizabeth, what are you doing over here, we're leaving now." A small dark haired boy hurried over. "Are you all right?" He asked.

"Y-yes. I was just thanking this man, he gave me my ball back." She explained. The child turned his attention to the demons.

"Hello." He greeted with a smile. "Thank you for finding my cousin's ball. Can I ask why you're sitting in the shadows, it's beautiful out here on the street." Sebastian couldn't help but feel as if he had seen the boy before. The boy's deep blue eyes were almost familiar somehow.

"It was my pleasure. I work in this book shop, " Sebastian pointed to the building on his right. "I'm simply taking a moment before returning to my job. Tell me little one, what is your name?"

"I'm Ciel. Who are you?"

"Daniel." The demon replied, offering the name given to him by his master. Ciel tilted his head slightly.

"Are you sure?"

"Ciel, we should go." Elizabeth pleaded. She leaned in close to his ear.

"I'm afraid." She admitted.

"One moment, what do you mean by that, I would know my own name, wouldn't I, master Ciel?"

"Maybe...but I don't know...You don't seem like a Daniel, it doesn't sound like it belongs with you."

"I see. That's very interesting." Elizabeth grabbed Ciel's hand.

"Can we go, please, I feel like it's not right."

"It's fine." Ciel insisted. Sebastian chuckled.

"Such a brave boy. Are you not afraid at all?"

"No. Maybe I should be, but I'm not."

"Ciel, Elizabeth, come now, it's time to go." The soft female voice. Ciel gave a polite bow.

"Sorry, we have to go now. It was nice meeting you...Mr. Daniel ."

"And you young Ciel. I feel sure we will see each other again one day. Do take care." Sebastian watched the pair closely as they made their way over to the light haired woman.

"He knew." Sebastian said shaking his head. "That boy..something about him is-I almost feel as though we've met."

"I've heard of it happening. I can tell you that I don't recall seeing him, sir. Perhaps it is just one of those things." Cynna suggested.

"I can't be sure. You see, I had the strangest feeling of wanting to protect him, I was compelled to make sure he reached her. I nearly offered to walk with them. That has never happened before."

"Somethings are just mysterious I suppose."

"Daniel, your break is over, I have a job for you." Sebastian sighed.

"If only I could find an alternative. Each master seems to be worse than the last one." Sebastian shook his head.

"Yes, but one day you may find yourself reconsidering, your mother would be thrilled. Think of how joyful she would be when you introduce her to your children." The prince shot his butler a glare.

"That's enough of that, do not encourage such ideas. I have no interest in a mate least of all demonlings."

"We shall see, my lord. Only time will tell."
