Chapter 28

Coming Home

It took us 5 days to reach the mountain. I refused any horse and I ran as a wolf. When we were close I let out a long howl.

Thorin's POV

I heard her howl. I ran to the edge of the ledge and looked for her. I could not yet see her, but I knew she was close. For the first time in days I smiled. Someone put their hand on my shoulder. It was Master Baggins.

"I am going down to her. Come with me."

He nodded and we both went down. I had never run so fast in all my life. I soon realized the rest of the dwarves were behind us. I had to smile. I saw her! I saw Vanmoriel running towards me in wolf form, and behind her were my nephew and her sister. When she was close she became a woman again and then she was in my arms.

"Oh Vanmoriel! My precious, beloved Vanmoriel! I shall never let you go ever again! I will never ever leave you behind again I promise!"

She did not speak and she did not need to. I pulled back and looked into her eyes.

"Did he hurt you?"

I was trying to keep my voice calm and even. She smiled and twirled one of my braids with her finger.

"No. I would never let him hurt me, nor would Legolas."

I nodded in approval and then stroked her cheek.

"I love you." I whispered.

"I love you too."

She hugged me and then the others reached us.

"Vanmoriel!" they cried out happily.

She smiled and hugged them each in turn.

Vanmoriel's POV

I hugged them all, well all save Dwalin, Bifur and Oin. Oin and Bifur just smiled and pat my back. Dwalin looked at me.

"You have done alright by me lass. Your uncle will never get to you again. Not without going through me first. You are one of us. Elf blood and wolf and all."

I smiled bowed.

"Thank you Master Dwalin."

He winked and I smiled more. Thorin took me back into his arms and kissed me passionately. I wound my arms around him and kissed him back. I pulled away and smiled at him.

"I am home."

I realize this is rather short, and I apologize for such a long wait!
