When Jefferson was taken away, he'd been stripped of his clothes, given a white t shirt and pants and shoved in a small soundproof room. Regina had stopped by to look smugly in the slot where they'd hand him his food.

He'd been in here before. He wasn't sure for how long that first time. But when he woke up here…free with no Cora, or guards or magic and he saw his daughter in town, he'd gone for her. He didn't know that she didn't remember him; he didn't know that she had another family. He didn't even pay attention to the weird things in this strange world. He'd seen plenty of things that he didn't know or understand in his lifetime. What was a car to him? Or electric lights?

Well, he'd had plenty of time to learn. When they'd taken him from his daughter after he tried to grab her, and they'd locked him up in here…he'd had plenty of time to think and to learn.

He knew a lot of things, Regina gloated as she talked. It wasn't until later that he realized that she wasn't only doing it to rub it in his face. She was doing it because she was already bored with her little happy ending.

Pathetic.

She'd wanted her little kingdom and she got it. HE lost his daughter and Regina still wasn't satisfied with what she thought she wanted.

Seemed to be a running theme with her. Jefferson, in all his time of exploring, had found the small mausoleum that she visited every week. He saw the father's coffin, the father that she left him behind with her mother for.

She'd trapped him…for days in there. Maybe weeks. Another prison, another separation…

And now he was there again. Regina gloated that it would be permanent this time; no one would come for him. Even if Emma cared (and why would she when she left him?), she couldn't get him out.

But that hadn't lasted long. He'd been given his clothes by Dr. Whale and escorted off the hospital premises. He'd been ushered into Rumple's car. Rumple was surprisingly quiet on the way home. HE didn't tell him anything about how he was out, just that he and Emma had worked together to get him out. Anything else should be talked about to Emma.

Emma had made a deal with him, he knew that she did.

She just wouldn't tell him what.

Well, it wasn't that she wouldn't…it was just that they hadn't had a lot of time to. His first priority was holding his son when they came back. His second priority was holding Emma. He didn't expect her to like that, she didn't trust him, she had no reason to…but he thought he'd never see him again.

And he loved her. He loved her with everything.

He expected to hold her and he expected her to push him away…but he…he didn't expect this. He didn't expect to have her up in his room; he didn't expect them to end up sleeping together…

He didn't expect her to agree to start over. To try this as a couple. He had his wife back; he had a wife that wanted him…

He never thought he'd get that again. Not after she found out he was insane and keeping things from her.

He looked down at his wife as she slept next to him. She was wrapped up in the sheets like she always slept before she'd left.

He smiled down at her and brushed a knuckle down her bare back.

She was back, she wanted to try again...she wanted him, she wanted this family…

And they were protected. Regina couldn't take him away from this family. Rumpelstiltskin would protect them when he couldn't…

They could make this work. He just had to be better; he just had to work very hard.

Emma stirred under his touch and turned over. He withdrew his hand and smiled a bit as she turned over and looked at him, "Hi."

She gave a smile back, "Hi."

"Sleep well?"

She shrugged," Weird sleeping naked."

"Yeah," she said awkwardly, "I guess so."

Neither one of them made any move to get out of the bed. He rubbed her arm, "I could make you breakfast in bed if you'd like to…spend the day together…"

"I can't, I have work."

He felt his stomach clench. He didn't want her working; he didn't want her down there with Regina where she could hurt her.

And he didn't want to be down there either.

"Do you have to?"

"Yes, I have to," Emma kissed him, "I'll be back."

She threw the blankets back. He lifted his head up and admired the view as she stood up, "Emma….Emma, what did you promise Rumpelstiltskin?"

"Mr. Gold?" Emma asked as she pulled on his shirt.

That wasn't his name. But Jefferson wasn't going to start that argument now.

"Whatever," he whispered and stood to dress as well. He caught Emma looking at him and let her admire the view for a few moments before he resumed dressing. He had everything. He had his home back, he got to sleep in his bed, he got to make love to his wife…

"I wish I could tell you," she told him and then looked worried, "But I don't know."

"You realize that's dangerous to owe a man like him an unknown favor?"

"I didn't have a choice," Emma whispered and averted her gaze, "It was the only way I could save you."

"I know," he hated it, he had to stop Rumple, he had to take her debt on for himself.

He had to go back to town today. He had to at least try to get Emma out of this contract she had with the Dark One. Emma might not know how much trouble she was in but he certainly did. He had to do his best to get her out of it.

Emma didn't flinch or back away when he went around the bed. He wrapped his arms around her and gave her a kiss on the head. Emma buried her face in his shoulder. It shouldn't have felt that good to have the woman he had once planned to use hold him like that.

"I need to shower," Emma pulled away; she moved toward the door but held onto his hand, "Want to join me?"

"Not yet," he lifted her hand and kissed the back of it, "Want to see my son."

Emma smiled, "I'll make you breakfast in bed."

"Defeats the purpose if I'm already up."

"Then get back in the bed," she shrugged, "Your day yesterday, you've earned it."
