Chapter 28: There's No One Like Us
Taro,
Hello sweetheart! How have you been? It's been quite some time since we last talked. You must be busy, what with all your training and your matches. I've been trying to keep up with your team and honestly, with work and everything, I would love to be able to be more informed except I haven't found any time. I do know that you guys are off to a great start! Keep it up darling!
Anyway, we have some change of plans for this year's Winter. I know usually you come to Japan to spend time with us for your break, and we love that, but since Yoshiko's birthday is around that time, she requested that we fly this time to you. That was her only wish for her birthday. I talked to your father about this, and he said that you'd be more than happy to have us there for Christmas. Although I do trust what he says, I would still rather ask you about this first before we decide to do anything. Either way, Yoshiko and I are very much excited to see you in Paris in winter.
If you have any free time, come and message me sometime. Video chats work too.
Good luck in your future matches and keep up the good work!
Love,
Mom
Mom,
I would to have you guys over for winter! You don't need to book a hotel, I have more than enough space to have you guys over. Yoshiko can even get her own room. This apartment has so much space just for me, and Dad's stuff doesn't even take that much space. Just stay at mine. It's no big deal.
And when do you guys plan on coming here? I'll buy the tickets. Is Kenichi-san coming too?
Love,
Taro
Yumiko Hishigawa:
You really don't have to buy the tickets for us, honey.
It's too much.
You:
Mom, it's fine.
I would love to buy them for you.
I have more than enough money to buy them.
Yumiko Hishigawa:
But first class?!
You:
It's no big deal.
I don't have anything to spend my money on anyway.
Considering this as my gift to Yoshiko then.
Besides, it's already paid for.
Yumiko Hishigawa:
You're the best son I could ever have.
Thank you so much sweetheart.
You:
Anytime
It was a good thing that Louis loaned his SUV to him. He didn't think he'd have enough room for his mom's and Yoshiko's suitcases and bags in his car, nor did he think they'd have space to for them to sit in a car. Why did he even buy a sports car? Right, cause Genzo was being a dick and dared him that he was too chicken to buy one. Now where did that get him? A car that couldn't even fit his family.
He checked the time on his phone. Their flight should be arriving soon. He better get driving soon and go to the airport. They must be tired from that long flight and couldn't wait to be in a bed. Knowing his sister, Yoshiko would probably be too complaining once the plane landed.
He spoiled her too much.
He grabbed the keys on the kitchen counter.
"I'm heading out," he called out as Ayame turned her head away from the stove. She offered to cook dinner for him and his family and even if he was adamantly refusing her, she wouldn't take no so either way she was going to cook for them.
"Drive safely!" she replied with a wave. "I'll have dinner for you guys done hopefully before you guys come back."
Taro rolled his eyes and went to her. "Just come eat with us," he said as he ruffled her hair, much to her chagrin. "I'm sure they wouldn't mind. Mom will adore you, and I'm sure Yoshiko will love you too. Besides, you cooked. Why wouldn't you eat it?"
Ayame swatted his hand away with a pout. "Because!" she replied, Taro only raised an eyebrow towards her. That wasn't really an answer. "Your mom and sister will tired from the flight. I'm sure that they'd rather head off to bed so they can rest and tour Paris tomorrow."
"They could spare a few minutes," he said as he wrapped his arms around her and put his chin on her head. Feeling her close will always be one of the best things in the world. Why couldn't she just come with him to pick them up and just eat out?
"Ah, whatever," she said with a scoff, but if Taro looked at her, he would have saw how red her face was, and it wasn't from the heat of the oven. She lightly pushed away from him and looked up to his face. "You better leave. Their plane is landing soon."
"I will, I will," he said with a chuckle, Ayame only rolled her eyes went back to cooking with a scowl on her face. Taro only laughed once more before dropping a kiss on her cheek.
"I'll see you in a bit!" he called out as he finally headed out the apartment.
If he looked back, he would have seen her face red once more as she glared at his back with a hand on her cheek. But, slowly, her lips formed into a smile.
Life was good.
"Really, Taro I can never thank you enough for this," his mother said to him sincerely as they got in the elevator of his apartment. It didn't take long to pick them up as his mother just called that they were about to head out of the arrivals area just as he was about to pull in right where they were at. And since the paparazzi have calmed down after the whole ordeal with Ayame, almost no one was following him and he managed to pick them up without any nosy people butting into his life. They were in and out of there in a flash.
"It's no problem Okaa-san," he replied as he pushed his floor. The elevator doors closed and soon they were going up. "I'm more than glad to have you guys here. Although, I'm surprised that her school let her out early. Winter break isn't in for a few more days right? What about finals?"
"I took it early," Yoshiko answered. "It helped that I had good grades too, and I was ahead the class anyway, so they let me take it earlier than everyone else."
"Well, aren't you little miss overachiever," he said as he ruffled her hair. Yoshiko swatted his arm way much like how Ayame did. "Keep it up and don't let whatever Okaa-san and Kenichi-san worked for go to waste."
"Of course I won't," Yoshiko replied with a huff as she crossed her arms. The elevator pinged and the doors opened, Taro chuckled as he led all of them out and straight to his apartment.
Yoshiko was telling him something about the J-League as he fished his keys from his pocket and promptly opened the door once he got them.
"Oh my, that smells delicious," Yumiko remarked as they all got in. She was right though. Ayame cooked something amazing again.
"Isn't it?" he said as put they put the suitcases in the rooms where they'll be staying. His mom would be using the room his dad uses when he was here, and Yoshiko would be using the other guest room in the apartment.
"I didn't know I was hungry until I smelled that," Yoshiko remarked as she got out of the room she was staying in. "What is that?"
He was about to answer when all of the sudden the bathroom door opened only to have Ayame jump in surprise as they all stared at her in surprise.
"Oh crap," she said suddenly in English. Taro agreed. Oh crap indeed.
Yoshiko turned to him with wide eyes. "You have a new girlfriend?! And you didn't tell me!"
He could feel a headache coming…
"I'm disappointed with you, Taro," his mother said to him that disappointed tone. "I would have thought you would introduce us to her right away. That's what you did with Azumi. You don't have to feel embarrassed about us knowing you have a new girlfriend."
"Oh no!" Ayame raised her hands. "I'm not- we're not dating."
Yet
"We're just friends," she amended. "Great friends. My name is Ayame, I live right across from Taro's apartment. It's nice to meet you," she bowed her head stiffly.
Yumiko chuckled in delight. "So polite," she said and gave a sly smile towards her son. "And she knows Japanese too."
Taro rolled his eyes and walked closer to Ayame before wrapping his arm around her, to the surprise of the petite girl who looked at him with wide eyes. "Technically, she's half," he answered as he rested his hand on her hip as he looked at his mother and sister with a nonchalant look before looking down at Ayame who was giving her a pointed look. He only chuckled and pulled her closer to him as she jokingly rolled her eyes while still leaning into him.
All of this didn't go unnoticed by the two other occupants of the room.
"Anyway," Ayame said as she slowly pulled away from Taro's grasp. "I better get going. I'm sure both of you are tired from the flight and I don't want to take away any more of your time," she gave them a smile as she bowed once more. "It was nice meeting both of you, and welcome to Paris."
Before she could even make a step, Taro already had a loose grip on her wrist, stopping her from taking another step.
"Just stay, Aya," Taro told her. "Okaa-san and Yoshiko wouldn't mind," he looked above her head to see his mother nod his head, while Yoshiko just shrugged her shoulders.
Ayame looked over to her shoulders to him before looking back towards the two ladies.
"But I gotta get back to MJ," she argued weakly. "I've been gone from my apartment long enough."
"Then bring him here," Taro tugged on her wrist some more. "In fact, why don't I get him for you and then you can tell Okaa-san and Yoshiko what you cooked for them tonight." Taro pulled her close before slipping his hand into her pocket to get her keys before he began heading for the door, Ayame trying to grab him in vain.
"Who's MJ?"
"You cooked the food?"
His mother and sister asked at the same time.
"MJ's her puppy," Taro answered as he opened the door. "And yes, she cooked everything that smelled heavenly when you came in. I'm gonna get MJ really quick. You guys head to the table."
Before Ayame could even say anything, he was out of the door, his mother asking her if she really cooked everything was the last thing he heard before he went to open the door across from him.
When MJ heard the door open, he bounded straight to Taro and began to jump around his legs.
"Hey there squirt," Taro greeted the white puppy as he brought him up. "Your owner's trying to use you to get out of eating with my family. How mean is that?" he gave the puppy a kiss on his head as MJ peppered him with licks. Chuckling, he hefted MJ on his arm before he closed Ayame's apartment door and headed back to his.
When he opened his door, he could hear his mother's excited praises of the food while Ayame answered a question that Yoshiko asked. Taro set MJ down on the floor and the puppy bounded straight to the kitchen as he closed the door.
He could hear Ayame's greeting to her dog while Yoshiko squealed in delight. When he came into the kitchen, Yoshiko had MJ in her arms as the puppy licked her, Ayame standing close by as she talked with his mother.
"I figured you'd like him," Taro said as he announced his arrival. Yoshiko only squealed some her and hugged MJ tighter.
"Hey, welcome back," Ayame greeted him with a smile. She turned her attention to her dog as she pet him in Yoshiko's arms. "You're loving this attention don't you?" She asked MJ as she scratched his ears. MJ let out a happy bark as he stuck his tongue out as he panted happily.
"He's so cute!" Yoshiki squealed as she nuzzled MJ, who licked her face once more. "How old is he?"
"5 months," Ayame answered. "Taro and I got him last September."
Yoshiko looked up with a curious spark in her eyes. "Taro went with you," she asked softly, giving a glance to her brother who grabbed a piece of garlic bread from the tray on table. She gave another glance to her mother, who was looking at them with a strange look in her eyes.
"Yeah," Ayame answered with a chuckle. "He didn't want to at first, but he relented anyway. Until now I still don't know what made him say yes."
Yoshiko only hid the bottom of her face behind MJ's fur as she gave a discreet glance towards her brother while he walked towards where they were, a garlic bread is his mouth. When he reached them, he casually threw an arm around her shoulders. Ayame rolled her eyes and broke the bread before taking a bite out of the bread before offering it back to Taro who took a bite out of it.
Yumiko's lips slowly curled into a smile.
"Well, how about we go eat then? It seems like Taro already got a head start," Yumiko said as she winked at her son mid bite of the garlic bread from Ayame's hand.
"Yeah, I'm starving!" Yoshiko agreed with a smile, letting MJ down as the puppy bounded towards the kitchen, Yoshiko following him closely. Taro finished his bite and turned him and Ayame around, following his sister as he put a hand his pocket while keeping the other one around her shoulders.
Yumiko stayed back a few moments, watching as her son, who seemingly finished the bread in his mouth, turned to face the short woman and whispered something to her before kissing her forehead.
Yumiko couldn't help the smile forming her lips, and followed them.
AN: yeah have this good night
