Thank you all so much for your encouraging and all round lovely, lovely reviews- please continue to leave them! xx
The journey home from the hospital was one of almost complete silence and even a slightly awkwardness. Zoe had decided that she wanted to go forward with her chemo therapy as quickly as possible. It was a decision that had been made hastily and with very little contemplation, but it was her decision, it was her hasty decision.
Nick, of course had tried talking her round, persuading her to take the time to think carefully about what it was that she was allowing to happen so soon. He wouldn't let himself upset her by going against her decision but at the same time he wasn't about to watch her become a shell of the perfect woman she was.
He had seen it before, the patients that came into the ed with a look of no emotion and a resentment towards life- as if they'd forgotten that it was the cancer that was so deadly, not life. Then, of course, he had been through it himself, admittedly not on such a scale of Zoe but he had been through it. He knew exactly how it felt to not feel yourself, like everybody you knew felt pity towards you.
"Are you sure you want to go through with this- we don't even know how serious the cancer is" Nick repeated himself for what felt like the hundredth time. He had mulled the words over thoroughly before he spoke them the first time.
"For God's sake Nick, of course I'm sure, I wouldn't have said it if I wasn't. It's serious enough" Zoe snapped turning her attention firmly to the passing world through the car window. The first thing she noticed was how the rain drops that stained the windows as they fell, looked identical to the tears she had shed over the previous days.
"Ok I'm sorry. Of course you're sure, I'm just worried about you, baby. I love you" Nick uttered the words quietly turning his head every so often to look at his fiancé.
"Look, you don't have to apologise for anything. It should be me apologising- I don't mean to snap at you like that. I love you more than you'll ever know, for what it's worth" she smiled weakly reaching over to take his hand that was resting on his lap. He immediately responded and squeezed her hand, complimenting it with a killer wink.
"Oh and it's worth a lot" he grinned triggering a gorgeous beam from Zoe. She watched through narrowed eyes as Nicks eyes glazed over in thought.
She couldn't tell what he was about to say but he had a pretty clear idea that she wouldn't like it.
"We can't carry on like this" he suddenly turned a lot more serious, although the smile was still there. His fingers brushed lightly over her diamond ring and he made himself a promise that he would get her down that aisle before her treatment. He would make an honest woman out of her as soon as he could. Although he often thought that it would her making an honest man out of him.
"You're leaving me?" Zoe choked, dropping his hand and biting her lip in an attempt to stay calm, it wouldn't be fair on either of them if she let any more fear out. It seemed so out if character, she never had Nick down as the love-them-and-them when things get serious type. He had always been a type of his own- nobody could ever compare and there had been enough men to attempt it. If ever Zoe's 'type' existed it was Nick Jordan, every last detail of that man Zoe adored. Down to the way he was so particular about the littlest of things. His pride in appearance was ridiculously attractive in her opinion, after all she was attracted by his looks, but his personality made her stay.
"Hey, don't you ever suggest anything like that" he told her firmly yet loving searching for her hand again, bringing it up to his lips and kissing it softly. A small chuckle escaped his lips as ran over her words in his head. "what I meant was I think we need to get away from Holby for a while, away from the hospital, work, the appointments"
Breathing a sigh of relief, Zoe nodded in agreement.
"Well there's always Barbados, I never did unpack those cases" she smirked slipping off her heels, evidently relaxing a lot more.
"Barbados it is then" Nick mirrored the cheeky smirk that occupied his fiancé's face. The smirk that captivated him.
"Oh and Zoe, I'd never leave you."
Ok so I had a little idea today, considering that Jasmine's character is so popular with a lot of you and frequently asked for, what do you think about a story based around Jasmine? I will obviously continue with Shattered Dreams because I LOVE writing it and will still include Jasmine here but please leave me your thought on that and any storylines you would like me to cover (based on Casualty or not). I will still class it as a 'Casualty' story because it will feature Zoe,Nick,Matt and the ED. Sorry for that ramble there! Hope you enjoyed this chapter and let me know! xxx
