A chance to make things right Chapter 28, a naruto fanfic

Hey guys sorry for the late update! I have been having a bit or writers block so I don't know how this chapter will turn out! Hopefully you all will like it. Anyways on with the story! I DO NOT OWN NARUTO!

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Minato would never admit it but he was more nervous than he had ever been in his life! But he still could not deny that he was equal parts happy, and excited for the night. He peered around to make sure no one saw him before he stepped into the jewelry store. He headed straight for the glass case where all of the engagement rings were held to look them over. Money was not an option as he had always saved the spare money he had after he paid his bills and rent. Thanks to that he had around 500,000 yen to buy just about any ring he wanted for Sakura. His eyes roved over the rings until they landed on a pink diamond ring with a platinum band that was encased in smaller diamonds. It was beautiful and he could see Sakura wearing it proudly on her finger. He beckoned a woman over to open the case so that he could take a better look. The raven haired woman came over and opened the case to take the ring out and hand it to him. The pink diamond was circle cut and set upon a cluster of smaller clear diamonds that ran down almost the whole length of the band. "How much for this?" He asked without looking up from the ring.

"It is 400,000 yen for this particular ring." She was expecting the man to flinch at the price but surprisingly he did not look put out in the least. Whoever this ring was for was one lucky woman.

It was expensive but it was more than within his price range. "I'll take it." He handed it back to the sales woman to have it wrapped up. She scurried off to fetch a box for it and returned a moment later. He paid for the ring and swiftly exited the store. Now all he had to do was get everything else set up for the night. Thankfully he had thought ahead and had his team occupy all of Sakura's time for the day. Hopefully they weren't having a tough time with her...

How she had been put in a situation like this she would never know... All she did know was that at the crack of dawn she had been practically kidnapped by Minato's team and dragged all across the village for no apparent reason. And now she was watching Obito, and Kakashi argue back and forth about who broke the window to the bakery. Which of course was equally none of their fault seeing as how Kakashi egged Obito on, and he in turn tackled Kakashi through said window. Rin was in between the two trying to calm the situation down to no avail of course... The owner of said shop was standing over the shattered remains of his window crying about his misfortune. Maybe she should just be thankful that she was feeling well enough to tolerate all of this today... She sighed and stepped forward just as the two teens lunged at each other in a flurry of harsh punches. Her hands lashed out and caught the two by the collar of their shirts and held them apart. "If this is what we are going to be doing all day then I might as well as go home." She smiled when they instantly stilled and shot her pleading looks.

"No Sakura Sensei you can't! If you do then AAHHH!" Obito's rant had been cut off mid sentence by none other then Kakashi himself who had kicked the raven haired boy right in the face.

"Do you ever know when to shut up?! Sakura Sensei doesn't want to listen to your ranting all day! Now go apologize for breaking that window!" Kakashi hissed out at Obito who in turn glared back at him.

"Shut up you bastard! You're the one that made me tackle you through it!" Obito bit out his anger returning once more.

Sakura grunted and dropped them to the ground just as they started raging at each other once more. She could see Rin off to the side apologizing to the store keeper for her teammates stupidity. What was the point of kidnapping her just to annoy her all day? All she wanted to do was go home and pass out until Minato came to get her for their date! As soon as she saw him she was going to demand that his team all get counseling for their dysfunction. Because honestly these kids could not get along for one day and it was getting on her nerves! She had had enough for one day so she decided that she was not going to stick around and watch them make fools of themselves anymore. While they were sufficiently distracted she disappeared in a flurry of cherry blossoms. Now all she had to do was find somewhere to hide that they would not figure out, or would be too scared to go to. Luckily for her she knew the perfect place...

Rin turned to scold her teammates for fighting when she noticed that her Shishou had disappeared. All that was left to show that she had been there was a flurry of cherry blossoms that was a part of her body flicker technique. Oh no... Minato Sensei was going to kill them for letting her out of their sight! She ran over to her teammates that were currently in the process of choking each other and smacked them both on the head. "Stop fighting you idiots!" She hissed while they rubbed their abused heads.

"What did you do that for Rin?! You shouldn't abuse your boyfriend!" Obito was still glaring at Kakashi who in turn was glaring at Rin. "Don't glare at Rin like that you bastard!" He growled out protectively. Kakashi opened his mouth to tell him off when Rin cut in before they could start up again.

"Do you guys notice that someone is missing...?" They both whipped around simultaneously to look to where Sakura had been only to see that she was indeed gone. They looked at one another in horror before turning back to her. "Yeah she ran off while you two were busy fighting! We better find her before she runs into Minato Sensei!" Both boys shot up from the ground and bolted in opposite directions. She shook her head and headed in the direction of Minato Sensei's apartment. She just hoped that they found her before something unfortunate happened...

Tsunade was reading through a medical scroll when a flash of pink startled her so much that she dropped it. Her almond eyes shot up to lock with her apprentice from the future who was looking at her in utmost relief. "Rough day?" She snickered at the exhausted expression on Sakura's face as she plopped down into a chair next to her.

"You have no idea... I got kidnapped by Minato's team and dragged all across the village for god knows what... And of course Kakashi, and Obito can't spend five minutes together without fighting... Then they broke the bakery window with said fighting... I had enough of all of that so I body flickered when all three of them were distracted!" She rubbed her hands over her face in exasperation. "How is the sealing research coming?" She asked in an attempt to change the subject.

Tsunade frowned and turned to her sealing scrolls. "Not as well as I would like I'm afraid... I am proficient enough with my yin seal but I am not an expert in sealing jutsu of this nature. If I am being honest with you we need a sealing expert... And unfortunately for you... That would mean your grandmother, Kushina, Minato, or Sarutobi Sensei... Those four are the best the leaf village has to offer in terms of sealing jutsu."

None of those were good options for her and she knew it. The only one that was plausible was the Hokage. But she was unsure if he would keep it from Minato if she asked him. Not to mention that she was not sure if he would agree in the first place... And her grandmother, and Minato were immediately tossed out the window... And Kushina hated her guts and would most likely throw a fit about her being Kurama's jinchuuriki as well... "None of those are good options... What about Jiraiya?" She was grasping for straws here but she was desperate.

"No Jiraiya is not a good choice either... Not only because he is not a master of sealing jutsu, but he wouldn't keep it from Minato when he found out. He is Minato's Sensei, and father figure." Tsunade grimaced and pulled a bottled of sake out from beside her chair and took a large gulp from it. It was rare for her one of the legendary Sannin to feel useless but she was feeling that right now. She wished she had studied more sealing jutsu in her youth so that she could be of more help to Sakura...

She almost felt stupid for asking as she should have thought of that in the first place. What other options did she have? If only it was simple enough for her to learn some more sealing jutsu and do it herself... But there was no way that could work as she would be too weak to survive sealing Kurama into Naruto. The extraction would be hard enough on her body on top of the birth itself... "We have to keep trying to figure something out... I will devote more time to helping you with this." She pulled one of the scrolls to her with the intention of doing just that. Might as well as get some work done while she had the chance. There was less than three hours until she had to go get ready for her special date with Minato so she immediately dove into her research.

Minato stepped out of the restaurant that he had just finished making the dinner reservations at. Luckily for him it was a very pricey restaurant so there was always openings in their book. Now that everything had been taken care of he had to go get ready for the evening. He turned to go home and get ready but a voice called out to him and he spun around to see his team rushing towards him without Sakura... "Where is Sakura at?" He asked just as they skidded to a stop in front of him.

Rin panted and turned apologetic eyes on her Sensei. "She ran off when Kakashi, and Obito were fighting and now we can't find her..."

Minato sighed and shook his head at his team. "She's probably with Tsunade, or Kagami-san. Did any of you check there?" He asked like it was the most obvious place to check in the world. They shuffled their feet nervously in front of him and he shook his head at them again. "Don't worry about it I will go get her. You three are allowed to go home now." He turned to go in the direction of Tsunade's house when Rin's soft voice had him turning back around to face her.

"Uh Sensei what is so special about tonight? Surely this isn't just a date." Rin shuffled her feet nervously. Her teammates had obviously just thought that Sensei wanted them to keep an eye on Sakura because she was still recovering. But she had a feeling that it was for something else entirely.

He figured that Rin would be the one to realize something was going on that he wasn't telling them. She was the most observant of the three. But that didn't mean he was going to tell them anything yet. "That's for you to find out later." With that he turned and disappeared leaving the three standing there.

Obito looked at his other teammates and blurted the first thing that came to his mind. "LET'S SPY ON THEIR DATE!" He shouted drawing the attention of everyone in the vicinity.

Rin looked at Kakashi who was nodding that he agreed with Obito's plan. "How do you suggest we do that and not get caught?" Both boys deflated at that knowing that there was no way that their Senseis wouldn't sense them. Just then she caught a familiar form not far from them and she immediately darted towards it. "Jiraiya Sensei! We need your help!"

Jiraiya turned at the sound of one of Minato's students. "Oh Rin what did you need?"

"Minato Sensei is taking Sakura out on a date tonight and we want to spy on them because something big is going to happen! But they will find out unless we get some help! So will you help us?" She turned her big brown eyes into her best puppy dog look and directed it at him.

Ahh so he was finally getting his ass in gear and popping the question... Well as Minato's teacher he wouldn't miss this scene for the world. "Well you're all in luck because I too am interested in what he is doing. How about I come along and mask our chakra signatures so that they can't sense us? That way we can spy on them without getting caught."

Rin grinned at Jiraiya widely. She just knew he was the right person to ask. "Yes that sounds good so let's get going before they get there!"

The familiar rush of space subsided and he was standing in front of Sakura, and Tsunade who were engrossed in what appeared to be research of some kind. They both shot up from the sealing scrolls they were reading and glared simultaneously at him. He wanted to comment that he didn't know that Sakura was interested in sealing jutsu but there were other things that were more important so he'd ask later. "We need to go get ready for tonight Sakura. Or did you forget?" He smirked when she scowled at him before standing and making her way to his side.

"No I did not forget! And would you please stop flashing into the room and scaring me?!" She huffed and latched onto his arm a little tighter than was necessary but he didn't comment. "I will see you tomorrow Tsunade Shishou! Thanks for letting me hide out here!"

"Yeah yeah! It was no big deal I like having you! Now get outta here before your boyfriend blinds me with his hair!" She smirked at the glare Minato sent her before he flashed out of the room. She waited for a few moments before she took off after them. No way was she missing her adoptive daughter getting proposed to!

Sakura smoothed the skin tight red off the shoulder dress that she had slipped on. It ended at her knees and accentuated her curves perfectly and stood out against the color of her hair and eyes. She had applied a small amount of eyeliner, and red lip gloss. Her hair was tied up in a tight bun on top of her head. She wondered where he was taking her that she had to dress up so formally? Normally it was an outing to Ichiraku, or the cafe but nothing like this... Now she was just unbearably curious about what his plans were. Inner was even strangely silent and that was strange because normally anything that Minato did for her she was commenting on. The sound of the bedroom door opening made her spin around to face Minato. 'Oooh he looks very hot!' Inner gushed for the first time that day. Sakura had to agree with her that he did indeed look way hot. He was wearing a silk blue long sleeve shirt with the top two buttons undone, with black jeans, and he had forgone ninja sandals for a pair of black vans.

"As much as I like you checking me out we do need to go before they give our table away." He couldn't help but to give her a good twice over as well while he held out his hand to her. But it was Sakura so it made sense that she looked absolutely perfect to him without going over the top with makeup. She reached out and placed her hand in his and he led her out of the apartment.

"So where are we going? Normally we never go anywhere super fancy." She pouted when he didn't offer any answer to her questions. His arm wrapped around her shoulder and held her to his side instantly warming her.

Luckily for him the restaurant was just around the corner from their complex and it was now in sight. He quickened his pace and pulled her along until they were standing in front of their destination. He looked over and caught her staring at the building in awe. "We can stand there and stare or we can go in and eat." He joked earning a glare from her. "Come on let's go in." With that he pulled her into the restaurant unaware of the multiple sets of eyes watching them.

"Obito be quiet!" Rin hissed and slapped a hand over her boyfriend's mouth. Even when he was supposed to be stealthy he was still attempting to scream to the world about who he was! With her other hand she reached up and untied his headband and pulled it down in front of his mouth. Then with her other hand she shoved it into his mouth plate and all and tied it back around the back of his head. "Don't you dare untie it!" She warned before she turned back to the restaurant below.

"Sakura has turned you into a mini monster hasn't she?" Jiraiya snickered at the situation that Obito was in. Poor kid probably wouldn't be able to talk tomorrow with his mouth so stretched out. A sharp smack to the back of his head courtesy of Tsunade almost had him falling out of their position in the rafters. "Hey!" He whimpered and rubbed the back of his head.

"Shut up!" Tsunade hissed and shot him a harsh glare which immediately made him shut his mouth. Her attention was immediately drawn back down to her daughter figure that was sitting down below. The brat better make it a good experience for her.

Sakura's face paled at the prices of the food on the menu. "Minato this food is outrageous! The cheapest thing on the menu is 2,000 yen!" She turned astounded eyes on her boyfriend. If she was being honest she was starting to question his sanity! Who wanted to pay 2,000 yen for anything they ate? His hand slid across the table and encased hers bringing her back down.

"Don't worry about the price of the food. It's not like I don't have more than enough money to pay for it. Order whatever you want and let me worry about the expense." He honestly didn't see what the big deal was. She was worth much more to him than all the money he could ever have. The waiter came up to their table to take their orders and he ordered tonkatsu and curry rice.

"I'll have oden." She didn't even want to look at the price so she just shut the menu quickly and shoved it at the waiter.

"The menu isn't going to burn you, you know?" He shook his head at her antics. She was acting like it was the end of the world or something! He reached across the table and took her hand in his again to calm her. "I imagined that you would be enjoying yourself tonight instead of obsessing over the price of the food. It isn't like you aren't worth the expense Sakura. I'd spend a thousand times as much if you only asked me."

"I don't want you to waste money on me. The things that you give me that cost the least are usually what matter the most. I never have been a very greedy woman you know." She could feel herself relaxing at his touch and the tension slipped from her shoulders. His words made her blush and feel more loved than she ever had before. It was times like this that she truly realized how lucky she was to have him.

Rin couldn't help but to 'awww' at the scene going on below them. Even Tsunade who normally would not be caught dead doing anything like that was having a hard time not squealing in a very undignified manner.

"Uhhh this is disgusting..." Kakashi groaned while Obito gagged from behind his headband. Why did he come to spy on his Sensei's date again? Oh yeah because he let his stupid teammates drag him here. The two females turned and pinned them with a fierce glare and he inched around and behind Jiraiya. Surely the Toad Sannin could handle the beating they would launch if they were pushed too far.

"Oh no kid! I am not going to be a buffer for the rage that you instigated!" Jiraiya shoved Kakashi back in front of him rather roughly. He turned away from the imminent doom of Kakashi and Obito to look down at his student and Sakura only to freeze at what he saw. Kushina was sitting at a booth with a young man at the other end of the restaurant. Kushina was shooting looks at Minato from her spot. "Tsunade!" He called startling her out of her plans to kill Kakashi. "Look at who is sitting at the opposite end of the restaurant!"

She followed his finger and scowled when she saw Kushina oogling Minato from the other end of the restaurant. "Damn bitch! I swear if she does anything I will personally end her life!" She tensed up when Sakura stood to go to the bathroom and Kushina stood and sauntered over to Minato's table after the pinkette had left. As soon as the red haired monster leaned down she attempted to launch herself at her but Jiraiya held her back. "Let me go you pervy bastard! I'm gonna mmph!"

He slapped his hand over her mouth to silence her while he wrestled to keep her from leaping down there. "Just wait and see what he does!" He knew that his student did not have any feelings for Kushina anymore, and that he would not respond to any advances she made. His student could handle this.

Luck was apparently not on his side tonight because as soon as Sakura left to use the bathroom he had Kushina in his personal space. All he had wanted was a nice romantic evening for the two of them and now he had to deal with this. "Kushina what do you want? As you can see I am very busy at the moment so please leave." Of course she didn't do that and he figured that it wouldn't be that easy with her. It never was...

"Yes I saw that you were busy with your little pet. But now that she is gone and we have a minute I had to talk to you." She leaned down so that she was inches from his face. He was still as handsome as he had always been and she was once again reminded of how stupid she had been to cheat on him and let him go. Now she wanted him back and he didn't want her anymore. No he wanted that pink haired freak instead of her! Subtly was never her strong suit so she decided to be blunt with him. "I want you back Minato. I want you to forget about that pink haired girl and come back to me. I promise that I won't ever be unfaithful again. So please give me a chance to be yours again." She leaned down and pressed her lips against his when he was too shocked to move away.

He was frozen in disbelief and shock at her request. It was not that he would accept it, it was just that Kushina never admitted that she was wrong about anything. His mind clicked and he realized that she was kissing him and he pushed her back roughly. "Listen Kushina you-!" His voice died in his throat when he saw Sakura off to the side. She had seen all of it... "Sakura it isn't what it looks like! Just let me explain!" As soon as he took a step towards her she bolted out the back door. He took off after her without even sparing Kushina another glance.

Kushina smirked and turned around only to come face to face with Tsunade. Before she could even open her mouth to say anything she was sent flying through the wall on the other side of the restaurant. "Bitch..." She hissed while she pulled herself up from the remains of the wall. She barely had time to register the fact that Jiraiya, and Minato's team were there before Tsunade had punched her through the hole in the wall and out into the alleyway.

Jiraiya knew better then to interfere not that he really wanted to in the first place. As far as he was concerned Kushina was getting what she deserved. So he would just enjoy the show while it lasted. A tug on his sleeve courtesy of Rin had him looking down at her.

"What about Minato Sensei, and Sakura Shishou? Shouldn't someone go after them?" She asked worriedly. Her Shishou had looked so upset on what was supposed to be the best night of her life.

"Minato can handle it kid don't worry about it. Just enjoy watching Tsunade beat Kushina half to death."

"Oh I plan on doing more than watching!" Rin cracked her knuckle and stepped forward to join in on the fun. She left her teammates and Jiraiya behind to join Tsunade in beating the redhead to a bloody pulp.

She couldn't believe that he would do something like that to her! But then again she should have expected it seeing as how they were supposed to be head over heels in love with each other. She wasn't supposed to be with him! She knew this and she still allowed him to pursue her anyways! Where was she even going? All she could see were the blurred outlines of trees flying by. Her thoughts were flying by so fast that she didn't even feel that pair of arms wrapping around her until she toppled over onto the ground with a heavy weight leaning over her. She was flipped around onto her back so that she was looking up into Minato's ocean blue eyes. "What do you want? Don't you need to go back and accept her apology? Then you can go and finish where you left off when In interrupted you!" Her words were bitter and angry. All she could think about was seeing Kushina kissing him and him not doing anything to stop it. That was the way it was supposed to be but it still tore her heart apart. This was worse then Sasuke trying to kill her when she still loved him! No this was second only to seeing Naruto die! But instead of being overcome with grief, she was overcome with fury, and anguish over her own stupidity. She started struggling to get out from under him but he had her pinned completely so that even her monster strength was useless. "Let go of me you traitor!" She spat glaring as harsh as she could at him. It didn't have the desired effect because he tightened his hold on her instead.

"Sakura listen to me! Kushina kissed me! I would never even touch her when I have you! I was just shocked when she said she wanted me back!" He tried reasoning with her but she wasn't having it.

"Yeah you were shocked because you wanted to take her back! You even let her kiss you! You probably only pushed her away because you noticed I was there!" She willed herself not to cry in front of him but that was a futile effort that wasn't even worth the attempt. Once again her heart was torn apart and she didn't think it would ever piece itself back together.

This was not how he wanted to do this! He had wanted it to be an amazing night for her that she would always remember but his past had ensured that his plans were ruined. He pulled her hands into one of his and placed her arms above her head so that he could retrieve the velvet box from his pocket and hold it out for her. "If I wanted Kushina then I wouldn't have went out and bought you this." He popped the box open so that she could see its contents satisfied at the soft gasp that passed her lips.

She had immediately stilled at the sight of the beautiful ring that he was holding in front of her. He released her hands and she couldn't even bring herself to slap him, or punch him like she had wanted to do moments ago. "Wha- What is this? I thought that..." Her voice choked off and she couldn't speak.

"I wanted to do this in a different way... I wanted it to be after a romantic dinner between us but that was ruined when Kushina showed up..." He pulled her up so that she was sitting in front of him. "I know that you are upset right now but just hear me out before you say anything okay?" He waited until she nodded her consent before he started. "Sakura I know that we haven't been together for very long but I have never felt happier with any woman I have ever been with. Every day I wake up next to you I am reminded of how lucky I am to have met you. I would never trade what we have together for anything in the world. I want to be with you until the very end of this life, and even after death I want to be with you still. I want to have a family with you. I want to have you all to myself forever." He took a deep breath and locked eyes with her. "What I am trying to say is... I want you to be my wife. Please marry me Sakura."

Her breath caught in her throat. In all of her life she had always dreamed of this moment but it paled in comparison to how the reality made her feel. She could see the sincerity in his eyes and she knew that he meant everything he said. "And to think that I almost threw it all away because of Kushina..." She thought to herself as she reached out and grabbed the ring from its box. She slipped it onto her ring finger and smiled at him. "Yes."

That one word made him happier than he had ever been and he gathered her into his arms and pressed his lips against hers. It was like a weight had been lifted from his shoulders when she had uttered that one word that he had not thought he would hear after all that had happened tonight. But now that she had accepted him even through all of that he was ecstatic. Now on top of being given the title of Hokage he had a wedding to plan. Life was really looking up for him.

I know that that may seem like a weird way to do the big proposal but that was honestly the way that I envisioned it so I went with it. I like drama and romance surrounding big moments so... R&R and let me know what you think! !
