AMELIA SONG VS. THE VALEYARD
After almost losing Amy and seeing Amelia become so upset as a result of that, the Doctor decided that his family and friends really needed a nice vacation to help them relieve the stress of the last few days. First though he had to say good bye to an old friend.
The TARDIS had been parked outside of Martha and Mickey's house as the Doctor prepared to drop Martha off there for good. He didn't really want to see her go though. This was made obvious by the fact that he wouldn't let her out of the hug that he was giving her.
"Doctor, are you going to let me go or not? You've been hugging me for about five minutes now," Martha said in a tone that said that she was beginning to become annoyed.
The Doctor hesitantly let her go as he said, "I'm sorry. I just liked having you around again. I'm glad to see that I didn't completely ruin your life after all. Although that's still kind of debatable since you wound up with Mickey."
Martha grinned as she said, "I'm going to try not to take that personally."
"Take what personally?" the Doctor asked confused.
"Never mind, Doctor. I'm going to miss you, Doctor, but I can't do this anymore. I knew that a long time ago when I left the first time. The only reason that I came along this one last time was because I kind of got roped into the whole thing and then the action seemed to never stop coming in order to give me a chance to leave. Now that I finally have a chance though I'm taking it and going before I get pulled along into any more adventures with you. That doesn't mean that I want you to be a stranger though. Please come and visit me when you can, okay? I'd like to see you and your family again sometime soon especially now that I know Jenny's alive," Martha said.
"I'll visit. I promise. I wouldn't want your life to become boring after all. Plus I never did get to see Mickey again. I definitely can't miss out on a chance to wind him up like I used to do in the old days. That never gets old," the Doctor said grinning mischievously.
"I'm sure he'll love that," Martha said with an amused grin on her face.
"Yeah, he always did. We made a good team, me and Mickey. He always made me look even more brilliant by comparison, and I always appreciated that," the Doctor said wistfully.
"I believe you're just as rude in this incarnation as you were in the last one," Martha said shaking her head at him.
"I wasn't being rude. I was paying him a compliment," the Doctor said.
Martha laughed at him and gave him a kiss on the cheek as she said, "Good bye, Doctor."
"Good bye," the Doctor said as he watched her go inside of her house.
As he started back to the TARDIS, he said to himself, "I'm so happy for you, Martha."
As soon as he reached the console and dematerialized the TARDIS, Clara smiled at him and asked, "Are you okay?"
"Yeah, I'm fine. I'm just not a big fan of endings. I hate to see my friends go especially when I just found them again. You'd think that I'd be used to it by now. All of you go eventually after all, and I just keep on living. In the end, I'm always alone," the Doctor said in a sad voice.
"Not anymore. I'm not going anywhere, Doctor," Clara said as she grasped his hand tightly.
The Doctor smiled at her and gave her a tender kiss while Amy watched them with a hint of melancholy in her hearts. She knew that Martha leaving wasn't really what was bothering him. It was the fact that she had almost died recently. The Doctor was probably even more upset about it then she was oddly enough, and she was still pretty shaken by it herself.
There was one person who was more upset by what had happened then both of them combined though, and she showed no signs of getting over it anytime soon. In fact, Amelia seemed to be angrier than ever as she stood by herself in the far corner of the Console Room and silently brooded.
She was far from the nervous almost shy person who they had first met. She now acted exactly like River except without her ability to laugh no matter how bad a situation got. She looked so angry now that everyone steered clear of her for fear of setting her off.
Only one person would even dare to try talking to her now.
"Amelia, are you ever going to stop this? Even your mother would have let it go by now," Amy said as she walked over to her.
"I wouldn't know. I never got to know her. I barely know you either, and I want more time to get to. I don't want you to be taken away from me just as I found you," Amelia said in an angry voice.
"You're taking yourself away from me by standing over here in a bad mood. We could be talking or just enjoying being together. Stop this, Amelia, and let's try to have a nice trip. Okay?" Amy said as she put her arm around her.
Amelia forced a smile that she didn't feel for Amy's sake as she said, "Okay."
Amy could tell that she was just humoring her, but she hoped that if they got to have a nice normal vacation that she might actually start enjoying herself. She silently hoped that for once despite who they were traveling with that they could have that nice normal vacation and not get caught up in yet another adventure. Amelia really needed something to take her mind off of things.
"So, Amy, where should we go? Space Florida? Barcelona? Florana? Freedonia? Name me a destination. It can be anyplace as long as it's cool and/or awesome in some way. Nothing boring," the Doctor said happily.
"Why not? Why can't it be boring? Maybe we need boring every once in a while," Amy said.
The Doctor made a face as he said, "No one ever needs that. Come on, Pond. Let me take you someplace exciting."
"I said that I just want a nice, safe ordinary trip that we can all enjoy as a family. Do you understand?" Amy said with just a hint of a threat in her voice.
The Doctor knew why she wanted this, but he really didn't think that it would do Amelia any good. He knew if she were anything like him that only a great life and death adventure would shake her out of her current bad mood not a boring ordinary everyday trip to the beach or wherever. Still he knew that he couldn't talk Amy out of something once she got that stubborn determined look in her eye. He would rather face a Dalek any day than to push her any further at this point.
"Fine. Boring it is then," the Doctor said clearly not happy about it as he punched in some coordinates into the console.
The TARDIS soon landed and the doors opened to reveal a nice quiet peaceful forest with a view of several giant mountains in the background along with a huge waterfall descending out of one of the mountains and emptying into a large lake nearby.
Amy smiled in gratitude as she said, "Now this is more like it. Thank you, Doctor. Where are we anyway?"
"It's a boring planet called Eden. It's just a huge bunch of beautiful landscapes one after another where nothing strange or unusual ever happens. Even the plants and animals here are boring. None of them are dangerous in any way. There's nothing to do here but stare endlessly at the grass and the fifty million waterfalls that cover the whole planet. One of you is probably going to have to try very hard to keep me awake," the Doctor said with a sigh.
"How about I slap you every couple of minutes then, Spaceman?" Donna eagerly volunteered as she grew tired of his complaining.
"It may have to come to that," the Doctor said not kidding in the slightest.
"Quit whining, Chin Boy, and enjoy the scenery," Clara said with a chipper grin.
"I'll try. You may have to kiss me every once in a while to keep me awake though," the Doctor said with an evil grin.
"Gladly. I'll volunteer to keep you awake and take one for the team," Clara said as she gave him a tender kiss.
"Thank you, Clara, for finally shutting him up," Amy said in a low voice to herself.
As the Doctor and Clara continued to kiss, Amy took Amelia outside and said, "Isn't it nice? I'm going to have to remember the coordinates for this place so that I can go here more often. Don't you like it, Amelia?"
"It's nice I guess," Amelia said as she looked around her anxiously as if she were watching for something.
"What is it?" Amy asked.
"Nothing," Amelia said a bit too quickly.
"Amelia Song, I may not know you that well yet, but I can tell that you're lying. What are you looking for?" Amy demanded.
"Nothing," Amelia insisted.
"Doctor, someone else is here. I can hear them," Rory suddenly said.
Amy glared at Amelia who looked away guiltily as the Doctor said, "It's the Valeyard. I can feel him. Hurry, back to the TARDIS!"
Before any of them could move though, they were instantly surrounded by the Divergence who completely cut them off from the TARDIS as they suddenly appeared out of nowhere. The Valeyard soon followed them as he appeared out of a clearing in the forest and gave them a look of triumph.
"Oh, come on. How could you possibly know that I would be here? I would never go here on my own. The only way that you could know that would be if . . ." the Doctor said before suddenly turning to look suspiciously at Amelia.
"Amelia, what did you do?" Amy asked in a furious voice.
"You found one of the TARDIS' homing devices that I sometimes give to people to help them find the TARDIS and amplified its signal so that the Valeyard could find it, didn't you?" the Doctor asked Amelia.
Amelia said nothing but she didn't deny it either.
The Valeyard started to laugh and said, "You wanted revenge didn't you, Amelia? I remember that about you. You always had a terrible vengeful streak in you. You make Daddy so proud."
"You're not my father!" Amelia shouted as she erupted into a violent rage.
She pulled a huge gun out of her belt and pointed it at the Valeyard as he continued to laugh at her. The Divergence surprisingly didn't try to stop her as she slowly moved forward to confront him.
"Amelia, stop!" the Doctor yelled.
"You tried to kill my Gran. I won't let you live to try that a second time. This time I'm ending you, and I'm going to take your little friends down too," Amelia said.
"Amelia, get back here! Now!" Amy ordered.
"Sorry, Gran, but I can't do that. I have to keep you safe," Amelia said as she pulled out a bottle of Ace's homemade explosive, Nitro-9.
Ace looked at her in shock and anger as she said, "You went in my room and stole that from me!"
"I'm sorry but it had to have it to use against the Valeyard and his cronies. This is it, Valeyard. Prepare to say good bye to everyone and everything that you care about. I'm sure it'll be a very short list," Amelia said.
"You won't use that. It could wind up killing you too especially with Ace's unreliable fuses," the Valeyard said.
"I'm willing to take that chance if it'll keep my family safe from you," Amelia said.
"You would too wouldn't you? Very well then, Amelia. Try your best. I must warn you that I won't go down easily though," the Valeyard said as he pointed his laser cane at her.
Amelia rushed forward and started to fire her gun at him while he used his cane against her. The two of them dodged each other's attacks while Amelia drew steadily closer to him by the moment.
The Divergence still didn't make a move to stop her though which bothered the Doctor. He knew that something was wrong just by this alone. When he tried to go after Amelia and the Divergence began to attack him that only confirmed it.
Rory began to attack the Divergence with his hand gun as he tried to create an opening for the Doctor to slip through. Jenny started to attack them too as she pulled out her gun and started to fire on them as she easily evaded their energy attacks.
"Do all of my daughters have a gun?!" the Doctor said in anger.
"I don't, Dad," Susan Oswald said.
"Good for you, Susan. At least one of my children has some sense," the Doctor said.
"Watching Jen and Amelia in action makes me want to have one though. I feel useless without one," Susan Oswald said in dismay.
"You don't need a gun to fight. I never use one. Here. Have a sonic," the Doctor said as he tossed a sonic screwdriver with a pink tip on it to her.
"For me?" Susan Oswald said with gratitude.
"Of course it is. I hope it'll take all of those nasty thoughts about those bad bad guns out of your head. I'm going to keep you the non-violent child in the family if it kills me," the Doctor said.
"I like it. I can't wait to test it out," Susan Oswald said as she pointed it at one of the Divergence, and it began to scream in pain at the amplified sound that came out.
"That sounds suspiciously like my jazz music, Professor," Ace said.
"I recorded it when I saw how it affected them and pre-set it on the screwdriver for Susan to use. It's still very effective, isn't it?" the Doctor said proudly.
Susan Oswald now helped Rory and Jenny fight back against the Divergence while Ace joined in and used her remaining Nitro-9 cans against them. Susan Foreman meanwhile was busy trying to open the TARDIS' heart yet again as she figured if it worked once that it would work again. Clara, Amy, and Donna were following the Doctor as he slowly made his way through the Divergence's ranks whenever and wherever he could find an opening. The three of them were determined to get to Amelia before it was too late.
Amelia meanwhile was in the fight of her life as the Valeyard had disarmed her of her gun and her Nitro-9 at around the same time as she had knocked his cane away. The two of them were now fighting hand to hand, and Amelia had quickly realized that the Valeyard was an expert fighter. He was more than holding his own against her, and she knew that unless she scored a knockout blow soon that she was in trouble.
"Not so cocky now are you, Amelia? They won't get to you in time to save you, you know? I'm going to finish you soon, Amelia, and there's nothing that you can do about it. You're already weakening. It's only a matter of time now before I strike a fatal blow and then the Doctor will be devastated that he lost you, his last link to his beloved River, just as soon as he got you. I'm not sure that it'll turn him into me like losing your grandmother would have, but it certainly can't hurt," the Valeyard said with mocking laughter as he continued to relentlessly attack her.
"You used me!" Amelia shouted.
"Yes, I did. I used your own anger against you to hurt your father. Think about that in your final moments, Amelia. In your reckless desire to destroy me, you've probably made sure that I will be created instead!" the Valeyard said as he continued to laugh at her.
"Shut up! Shut up! SHUT UP!" Amelia screamed louder and louder as she began going wild and becoming more and more violent in her attacks in an attempt to do anything in order to stop the Valeyard's constant annoying laughter.
This was just what the Valeyard had wanted as her extreme anger caused her to become careless and made her make what could be a fatal mistake. She immediately left herself wide open to all of the Valeyard's attacks because she was no longer even trying to defend herself anymore as she just mindlessly flailed away at him.
Finally the Valeyard took full advantage of this weakness as he pulled out a previously hidden gun and shot Amelia in the chest with it at point blank range! Amelia instantly fell to the ground with an agonizing scream and lay there jerking in pain as the Valeyard aimed the gun at her head next.
"Good bye, Amelia," the Valeyard said as he started to pull the trigger.
That was when Ace struck him from behind with a baseball bat sending him into a daze. She then hit him in the head again with the bat so hard that he flew several feet across the field and landed on the ground with a solid thud. The Valeyard was immediately knocked out cold from the impact as Ace dragged the moaning Amelia away with her.
Ace quickly moved Amelia to a safe place by the waterfall and began to check her hearts as she slowly stopped moving. She was so afraid that she hadn't gotten to the girl in time to save her.
"Come on, TNT Head. You've got to make it. I won't let you die now after I went through all that trouble to save you," Ace said as she made up a nickname for her on the spot which she always did for the people that she cared about.
Amelia could barely speak as she said in a low voice, "Tell Dad not to blame himself. It was my fault. Please don't let him become the Valeyard. Please."
"I won't. I promise. Come on, kid. Don't give up. Your dad and your grandparents need you," Ace said in an upset voice.
"Thank you for trying to . . . help me. Tell Gran . . . I'm sorry," Amelia said in a voice barely above a whisper.
"Amelia!" Amy screamed as she, the Doctor, Clara, and Donna finally managed to break through and get to her.
"I tried to save her, Professor. I really tried," Ace said in tears.
"Don't give up hope, Dorothy. She isn't dead. Not yet. If she's anything like her mother, she's a fighter. She won't die easily," the Doctor said confidently even though his face was filled with worry.
"Doctor, how do I give my lives to someone?" Clara asked without hesitation.
"No, you're not doing anything. I'll give mine to her. She's my granddaughter," Amy said.
"Just wait. She isn't gone yet. She's going to make it. I know she is," the Doctor said.
"Amelia, please don't go," Amy said in a frightened voice as Amelia's breathing slowed down more and more by the moment.
Amelia could hear her calling to her, but she was too weak now to even respond to her. Then she slipped out of consciousness entirely and began to see a bright light. She knew now that she must be dying.
This is just like in the movies. Amelia thought to herself in disbelief.
Suddenly the bright light took the form of a woman with curly blonde hair and a warm smile who was very familiar to Amelia. She saw a much younger version of her face in the mirror every day after all.
"Mum?" Amelia said in disbelief.
"Hello, sweetie," River Song said.
Next: Amelia finally meets her mother at last! Is it real or just the dream of a dying girl? What will River and Amelia have to say to one another? Will Amelia survive or is this really the end for her?
