Di Immortales!
Fleur woke up with a start. She found herself in an unfamiliar place in an unfamiliar bed. Her body sore as if though she had taken some thorough beating. She in panic fished for her wand but failed to locate it. Fleur took deep breaths to calm self and took a look at the room she was in. The room rather small was devoid of any personal effects, the bed itself queen size was rather comfortable. Fleur took stock of herself and found that she was wearing pajamas which were much too large for her. Fleur tired to recall the last thing she could remember but she only gained a head-ache. She remembered that she had been having dinner with Harry, the one she had cook but after that she couldn't recall. Calmer now she picked herself from the bed and walked towards the mirror which was hung on the wall. Fleur looked at her reflection. Her hair disheveled, eyes blood shot and her hands almost hidden by the large cloth were shivering. All in all she felt very tired. All she wanted to do was return back to bed and go back to sleep. Fleur shook her head in efforts to clear it. She knew that simply going back to bed was not an option. She was in an unfamiliar place, just having woken up. The lone window with no blinders drawn grabbed Fleur attention but she felt the whole world swirl around her and almost lost her balance. She was truly tired and swore. Slowly she made it to the window in the rather small room. Through the window's glass panes she peeked outside. The room she was in was several stories above the ground. The busy street was visible from up above. The noises of the vehicle zooming could be heard, noises which Fleur was sure she hadn't heard before but now could hear perfectly.
The sound of the door slamming shut made Fleur jump and then turn towards the door only to feel a head rush.
"Sorry about that. Used a bit more force than was needed."
When Fleur' focus came back she saw a tall man with black hair who was in blue jeans and orange t-shirt. He was carrying a cream colored tray in his hand laded with food and a glass of what looked to be orange juice. Fleur clutched her head in her hands the events which she couldn't recall a few moments before came rushing to her. She remembered herself waking up cradled in the arms of Harry. Then discovering that they had been surrounded by Dementors and her patronus had failed. She had watched in true shock as what had been wand just moments ago turned into a wicked looking glowing sword tore the Dementors into pieces. The monster had then arrived. Truly horrific it was and Fleur couldn't really recall how it looked.
"Hey, Fleur!" said a voice right next to Fleur, "are you alright?"
Fleur found herself being held by the man whom she had always believed was Harry Potter but the monster had addressed him differently. Fleur tried to push the person away but she found little success. She was soon led towards the bed and was made to sit.
"Who are you!?" demanded Fleur but did not get an immediate response so she added. "You are not Harry Potter!"
"No. I am not."
"Who are you really?" demanded Fleur.
"I'm the same guy Fleur for whom you cooked that diner for." said the man staring right in her eyes, "I am the same guy whom you nursed back to health when I was poisoned, I am the same person who you declared your best friend."
"You are an imposter, a liar!" accused Fleur.
The man in front of her gave no response but kept staring at her. He looked so calm which infuriated Fleur but she could see sadness in his green eyes.
"It wasn't supposed to go down like this," said he, "no one was to know who I truly am. That's what I was told when I was given the job."
"Job?" puzzled Fleur.
"A job, yes," said the man in orange t-shirt, "to impersonate Harry Potter."
"Where is he?" asked Fleur, "where is Harry?"
"I don't know."
"You are lying!" accused Fleur. "Answer me! Where is Harry Potter?"
The expression on the man's face told Fleur all even before he said it. "He is dead. He's been so now for almost a year."
No matter what anybody said or claimed Fleur had barely know Harry Potter. At first she had not tried to know him out of anger when his name had come out of the goblet of fire. But when he had saved her sister she had tried to befriend him only the boy had been too shy to make any real progress. But when she had meet him just this year at her fiancé' house she had meet with an entirely different personality, a person who radiated confidence and power. It had not taken her long to befriend him. By Christmas she had been made his financial advisor and the later on his manager. At the same time they had become friends, thick friends. Now the revelation that the person was a lie shook Fleur to the very core. It truly hurt her. 'His kind, they are all the same, all good looking, all charming.' His kind! A god. The monster had announced.
"The monster, it called you a god. Are you?" asked Fleur after a few moments of silence.
Her host opened his mouth to answer but a loud thundered boomed making both Fleur and her host to jump in fright. Fleur' attention went towards the window but soon returned to host only to see her host glaring at the window. The glare was so intense that Fleur instinctively tried to take a step back and flopped back on the bed she had been sitting on. The man turned towards her and his glare was replaced with helplessness.
'He is a god!' Fleur' mind screamed. Her heart beat increasing. In front of her was a god. The man impersonating Harry Potter, the person pretending to be her friend was a god. The monster had called him something else as well.
"The monster, it called you Perseus – "
Perseus cut Fleur off before she could a more, "names have power Fleur, one shouldn't throw them around casually, call me Percy. That's what my friends call me."
'If this man Percy is a god then is he immortal? How old is he?'
"My mom named me Perseus." informed Percy snapping Fleur out of her thoughts, "She wanted me to have a happy life. Get the girl, happy ending and what not." Percy chuckled, "it might also be which saved my life time and again. The guy the first one the son of Zeus, he was popular."
"Why?" asked Fleur.
"Really!?" exclaimed Percy, "the guy was like, amazing. I mean why wouldn't he be-"
"No!" said Fleur, "I'm not asking you about him. I am asking you about you. Why did you impersonate Harry Potter?"
"Trust me. I've been asking that question since day one." said Percy, "all I got in return was a long winded reply from the Olympians. At the end of the day it was all about politics."
"If you truly are a god couldn't you have said no." asked Fleur.
"And get blasted into pieces?" said Percy, "ha, no thank you."
Fleur had at an early age tried to control her allure. One of her cousins had suggested that she learn more about magic. So as her many subject she had learnt some warding. One of the top things that were required of warding was the capability of sensing magic. She had by years of hard work she had picked up a few tricks. Two year ago she had seen that harry Potter was a powerful wizard. When she had seen this god almost a year back, the god who was disguised as harry Potter she had sensed great power but she had chalked it up to Harry growing up. When till date she had felt only a powerful wizard today she could feel the presence, a presence in front of her as if there were a hundred wizards bundled up in one. It was possible that the god had not shown his power before and had been actively hiding it from others also that he is still doing so.
Fleur' stomach growled indicating her hunger. Fleur was not impressed by her own stomach but she saw that Percy looked amused.
"I think you are in need of breakfast." said Percy indicating towards the tray which he had brought in and was placed on a small tripod. "They are pancakes and orange juice. Though they are not blue they should do."
Fleur was hesitant. She did not know Percy at all even though she had technically known him for months.
"I swear Fleur I will answer all of your questions that I'm allowed to answer." said Percy, "Please have something to eat."
Fleur still looked unconvinced.
"If hurting you were my plan do you think we'd be sitting here like this?" said Percy, "when you offered your friendship and I accepted it, I meant it. I am your friend and I mean you no harm. Take the food Fleur and I'll answer your questions."
Fleur after a bit of thought concluded that I Percy truly meant to hurt her he would have caused something by now. But there was a lot he needed to explain and Fleur doubted that she would ever forgive this person. Shakily she lifted the glass of orange juice and took a sip. Freshly squeezed, he knew exactly how she liked it. The pancake that she took a bit was average at best but very much edible. As she continued to eat Percy began to talk.
"While Harry Potter was an 'as normal as I can get guy'," said Percy, "'HARRY POTTER' on the other had happens to be something more, something larger than life. To the masses he is a symbol. A hero they can bank on. A beacon they can follow. Him dead, it would have caused mass panic."
"People and even leaders die all the time," said Fleur, "I don't think the gods come down to impersonate them. Or do they?"
"No, not usually no." said Percy, "but on occasions demigods have been sent to do the job."
"But why you?" asked Fleur.
"La Politique" said Percy.
"Politics!?"
"Let's just say that I displeased a few very powerful people," said Percy vaguely.
"Displeased!?" asked Fleur.
"What do you know about gods Fleur?" asked Percy.
"They are really powerful wizards and witches," replied Fleur miffed at the sudden change in topic, "who learnt to become immortals and the muggles started to worship them and called them gods."
"Di immortales!" exclaimed Percy shaking his head, "Fleur Delacour, 'Gods' are powerful beings, they are no puny wizards. If you had said this to any god or even a demigod you would have been blasted into pieces. My dear Fleur, gods are forces of nature the very essence of this world. You should know this and remember it."
Even as he had said these words Fleur saw that Percy was very calm. He did show some anger also some panic when she called the gods wizards but then the very moment those emotions had appeared they had vanished. Fleur listened intently as Percy went on to tell her about the gods. About Zeus, Hera, Athena and more, she saw that Percy avoided mentioning of name as much as he could. When he had a negative body language as he spoke about some gods but for a select few his eyes would light up in happiness and adoration. Fleur found it difficult warp her head around the fact that what she had been told about the gods and mythologies as a child was not even remotely true.
"Poseidon is my father."
Fleur saw that as he spoke about the sea god his mood was at its best. His enthusiasm was infectious. Fleur wanted to be angry, she should be furious. She should be wary of the stranger. But all she found herself was being comfortable, a feeling of safety.
'They are all charming.' Fleur suddenly remembered the words of the monster. 'They lie, they make promises.'
"But why pretend to be Harry Potter?" asked Fleur trying to keep herself level headed.
"The honest answer is, 'I don't know.'" Said Percy.
"Vous ne savez pas!" repeated Fleur tartly, "you impersonate a dead boy, you lie to his friends, and you lie to me! And then you say you don't know why you did it!"
"I didn't mean 'I don't know why I did it.'" Defended Percy, "I meant I don't know why I had to do it."
"What is the difference?" asked Fleur.
"The plan to impersonate Harry Potter was not mine it was one of the Olympians."
Fleur glared at the god in front of her who shifted in his seat uncomfortably.
"There are powers at work here which are a lot greater that you or I" said Percy. "I take what I get from a situation."
"You won't question things." accused Fleur, "you would just do as the others say and not refuse to impersonate a dead wizard?"
Fleur saw as Percy took a deep breath.
"I think that sending me here to pretend to be Harry Potter had nothing to do with him being dead. Or the way he died." said Percy, "I think it was more like a punishment."
Fleur was not able to understand what Percy was talking about and it seemed that Percy understood this as he continued to speak.
"You see I'm a son of the sea god," said Percy, "very powerful, very popular, a threat."
"Who are you threatening?"
"The king of gods," said Percy, "well in his eyes anyway. Also, I think when he made that generous offer to me and then I turned him down he felt insulted. And I don't think my dad is helping the matter with the rumors that he's been spreading."
Thunder boomed in the distance.
"Is there a thunder storm?" asked Fleur, "the sky seemed very clear."
"No, there is no thunder storm." assured Percy. "It's just the gods telling me not to go further in the current line of questioning."
Before Fleur could say anything return Percy continued, "Gods are forgiving but not always, one has to be careful of what one speaks."
After a few moments of silence Fleur asked "why did that monster attack you?"
"An old grudge really," said Percy, "In ancient times the gods banished him to Persia. So he didn't get to kill any famous people. That really miffed him. He tried to kill me and my friends but one of my cousins killed him."
"Killed him!" said a surprised Fleur, "it was here! It attacked you and me!"
"Monsters don't really die Fleur," said Percy, "they can be killed, they have to be killed. But they don't die. When killed they turn to dust. Their essence lands in traturus but they eventually reform ready to challenge yet another poor soul."
Fleur by now knew of the dark pits. Percy had explained it to her in brief while telling her about gods.
"Why did you befriend me?" asked Fleur.
Fleur saw that Percy was trying to come up with an answer and was not able to make a quick reply. She assumed the worst.
"Were you only using me?" accused Fleur.
"No!" said Percy aloud, "no, by the gods, no." Fleur looked deep in Percy's eyes trying to see the truth behind his statement.
"No," repeated Percy, "when I accepted your friendship I meant it. Believe me."
"All this time you have lied to Me." said Fleur tartly, "if you were truly my friend, why lie? Why hurt me like this?"
"Hurting you were never my intentions." said Percy his expression Fleur saw was pained but Fleur was also in pain. She felt betrayed, felt used.
"If hurting me were not your intentions, if using me to your own ends were not what you have done, then why did you befriend me?" asked Fleur, "why did you become my friend when you knew that I was being lied to by you?"
He took a long time seemingly staring at a distance. Seeing what exactly Fleur was not sure, "I was lonely." Answer Percy.
"You pretended to be my friend because you were lonely." said Fleur unhappily.
"I did not pretend to be your friend Fleur. I'm your friend." said Percy, "I was lonely yes and I needed someone on whom I could thoroughly rely upon."
"Harry Potter had his friends. Ronald and Hermione," pointed out Fleur, "he relied on them. You could have done the same."
"Ronald is lazy," said Percy, "he is foolish, and he's a jealous prick who abandoned his friend in time of need. I'm surprised that Harry Potter ever remained friends with him. I if in Harry' shoes would have never talked to him ever again. As for Hermione, she could be a great friend to have but she was Harry Potter's friend. She knew Harry Potter more than he knew himself. If I were to interact with her more and more she would have discover me as not being her friend. It would have put the whole exercise in serious trouble."
"What if I were to announce to the world that you are an imposter?" asked Fleur.
"Then I'll simply disappear and you will never see me again." replied Percy his tone final.
"You won't threaten to kill me?" asked Fleur "won't try to stop me? You won't try to erase my memory?"
"What would be the point?" countered Percy. "I would have lost something very precious." At Fleur' questioning stare he continued, "I would have lost you and your friendship."
