Sometimes it's just best to not know~
I glared as pulled the cloak tighter around my form and my eyes slipped to the sky. The sky was cloudless and it made something in my heart hurt as I watched with sad eyes as a flock of birds weave through the sky. It must be nice to fly, to not have anything to hold you down, I shook my head quickly and almost ran into Tamlen. I stepped back and looked in front of me.
The woman, Da'len'ven from the tales had her arm out with a falcon perched on her forearm. She spoke softly to it petting its wings and then it let out a shrill cry and left her with a piece of parchment in her grasp, Tamlen gave me a small smile as she read it.
"You can't hear them anymore, can you?" Her voice felt like she slapped me across my face and before I could stop it a gasp fell from my dry mouth. My fingers held tightly to my necklace as I threw down the hot emotions that came with her words.
"I don't know what your talking about." I said almost breathlessly and hide in my cloak as my eyes went back to the sky and blinked back tears.
"Don't lie!" She said with narrowed eyes.
"...I... am not." My throat wouldn't work and I had to swallow a few times to get it to work.
"I demand by Fen'Harel you tell me the truth," She said stepping forward. "When did you lose it?"
"Lethallan!" Tamlen spit with anger. I closed my eyes as I felt the power that came with what she said. I shook my head and fought against this, this old magic that softly pulled at me. Soon the pull became harder and I shook where I stood, soon I was on my knees and her boots met my gaze.
"Spit it out!" She hissed.
"I have been losing it for months, it went away slowly and I didn't know it was gone because it is winter. But here, there here it's torture. If I can't hear them I can't hear him, if I can't hear him, then... then it's over." The words ripped from my mouth quickly against my will as I fell onto my forearms and I pressed my forehead into the dirt as I bit back tears. If they were gone then I am too, I am now without my being, a husk that is going to be thrown into battle and used.
"Get up da'len." She said softly and touched my back.
"Don't touch me!" I screamed and smacked her hand away. "Don't you ever touch me you dirty bitch!" I said standing up and glared at her to the best of my abilities.
"Watch what your saying!" Tamlen growled but I shook my head.
"Tamlen it's okay...What I did was wrong, I shouldn't have used the power." She said strongly and straighten her shoulders and looked at me, dark emotions swirled in her eyes making me confused about her.
"Why does it matter to you if I can't hear them...?" I asked closing my eyes tightly and told myself to calm down.
"Because it means your dying." Her voice was cold and my eyes snapped open as I scrabbled back with shock.
"You're the one lying!" I said with wide eyes as I shivered, I couldn't believe this, no I refused to believe this. I took another quick step back as she started to open her mouth, before she could speak I was running away.
Faintly I heard her call out but I didn't look back, instead I kept running. The cloak that they gave me caught on things making me quickly rip it off my being with one hand while the other moved a branch. My ears swerved quickly as the sound of another set of footsteps coming from behind me. I lengthened my stride and my arms swished faster.
I could almost feel the person's hands reach out to me so I slide to the ground. My body launched through the mud and my arm hit something hard. I tired to grab out to something but I couldn't gasp anything. A hand was inches away and I didn't hesitate to grab it, but I didn't expect Tamlen to come rolling down just like I had. He tugged at my hand quickly and wrapped himself around me. My heart was thudding like a mad woman and Tamlen's was the same tempo.
"Hold tight, there's a river were about to collide in." Tamlen said as his other hand tried to grab onto something to stop our descent. His hand was less than an inch from grabbing something when the ground left us and freezing water swallowed us up.
I thrashed about as my body was pulled into a current. I couldn't see anything as my breath left me, panic hit me in a quick burst making me thrash about harder and my vision started to blacken. I held the little bit of my breath I had tightly between my lips and my lungs screamed, I turned my head this way and that way but I couldn't see anything. My heart was thudding loudly in my ears and soon that breath that I held tightly started to seep away as my struggling got slower and slower. The darkness was taking over my whole body as my last breath was gone and something warm touched my shoulder.
My eyelids fluttered lightly as something cold and sharp cuts through me. I started coughing and the warmth shifted as something poured from my open mouth. I gasped and coughed more and closed my eyes again. Something shook my body making me open my eyes slowly again.
"Stay awake, we still need to get to the river bank." Tamlen hissed and I nodded weakly and moved my body slowly and felt him let me go. I blinked and drew a deeper breath and winced at how it hurt. I moved my arms in circles until I was sure I could move properly.
"Thank you..." I whispered and he looked over to me and shrugged. I started moving after him to get to shore but something made me stop. I turned and watched as a section of water glowed.
"Wait, look at that." I called out and watched as it glowed brighter, hesitantly I moved closer to see what it was and ignored his protest.
"-Run!" met my ears making me quickly turn to try to find where it was coming from. An image started to form in the water and I got even closer and found out it was the image of Conner. There was fear in his eyes and his clothing was ripped and torn.
"You shouldn't be seeing this." Tamlen said coming beside me. I shook my head and continued to watch as Conner ran and then turned back as fire licked through the air. My eyes widened with fear and I couldn't help the small scream that built behind my lips as it hit him making him go down. I couldn't move as I watched him fall and thud to the ground. Another person screamed from the glowing water and then the image changed.
"What was that?" I asked as tears fell from my eyes and my breath was quicker.
"This place shows you the death of the people closest to you, now we should-" Tamlen was cut off from a war cry. My head snapped to the sound as my heart and brain told me not to look. A boy that I had never seen before was running in front of someone and something about him made my heart clench more. The boy didn't make a sound as his body crumbled with blood pouring from the stab wound. Malachi's piercing eyes bored into the boy's being and twisted the sword. A loud keening sound met my ears as Tamlen grabbed me pulling me away, but it was too late.
The keening was was getting louder and tears were filling my vision.

P.O.V: Conner
Screaming made me turn my head and rub my eyes of sleep. My body cramped from sleeping in a ball and my mind was sluggish as I sat up. Pain hit my arm making my head snap up and a sudden realization hit me and I stood up making my chair fall. The screaming was louder and it made my ears hurt as calming magic started forming in my hands.
"No!" She screamed and tears were falling down her face and I tried to calm her down. Mama Zia-Zia touched my arm lightly making me look at her.
"I don't know what happened, she just started screaming." I said with hidden panic. Mama Zia-Zia studied Farja's screaming, sweating figure and the tears that fell from her face.
"Talk to her." She said softly and I gave her a confused look.
"She'z gonna be 'aking soon, something haz destrezzed her from the Beyond. She'll need ye..." Mama Zia-Zia explained and turned away. I looked after her dark form with confusion and then walked closer to Farja with sudden hope shining in my heart.
"Shh Farja, I am here... All is alright." I whispered softly as I sat on the small cot and touched her wet cheek softly. The response was immediate. Her screaming stopped and she pressed closer to me. I smiled softly and pulled her fragile form closer and ran my hand through her hair.
"Yes, all is fine. I am here for you and just you." I whispered softly and hated how my voice caught. "Just you Farja so you better pull through least I have to go crazy. You know I never thought this would happen... I always thought you just be here by my side." She made a soft sound and moved herself closer to me.
"The lights are burning duller,
The candle is less than a flicker without you;
Your eyes burn into my skin,
I swear you can hear my heart beating out,
If only, if only yours would beat the same." I whisper slowly as my other hand wiped away her drying tears. If only, if only you could love me.
"Wake up soon mia amo."
