Kae: Hey guys! It's guess who-

Rahne: -With a new interview!

Lance: What, in the world, was that?

Kae: Our intro...

Lance: Seriously?

Rahne: Yes, why? Do you have a problem with it?

Lance: No..no, I just think that it's a bit...how should I say this?

Rahne: I'm waiting for my answer, Avalanche!

Lance: Uh...Kae? What's with her eyes?

Kae: You've gotten yourself trapped, answer the question Lance, hurry!

Lance: Oh come on, how much damage could a fourteen year old girl do to me?

*Rahne pounces*

Kae: Run, run away, now!

Lance: AHH!

WE ARE HAVING TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES, PLEASE ENJOY THIS STORY

"Emily?"

Screech looked up, Jon loomed over her.

"Are you alright? You seem a little distracted,"

She gave him a smile, and Jon looked away.

Have you every tried to not speak for an hour? That sounds simple enough. An entire day? Not so simple. A whole year, not one word? Impossible. Could you imagine not being able to speak for your whole life? That is impossible.

It wasn't easy, living without words. Emily could do anything else a normal girl could do, but one word, could cost someone their life.

"You're bark, is worst than your bite,"

She had heard the phrase before, everyone had, and here she was, the living definition of it. One word, one mistake, was all that was needed to end someone. She was that powerful. She had once overheard the Professor speaking to Mr. Logan about Jean, they had come up with some sort of "Mutant power level" thing. Emily had heard her name once during that conversation, she was a five, and she could only pray that it was a good thing.

She had never once 'explored' the true, destructive power of her abilities, so their threat-level was never given a certain amount. One of her blasts had once reduced a school to ruins, she must have been high.

At the institute, she was respected, everyone liked her. She had once been told she was cute, Jon had been very embarrassed that time, others agreed, treating her as the adorable. innocent looking, young girl. She must have also been a living definition of, "Looks can be deceiving,". She could remember that first encounter with the X-men, the way the entire block rumbled at the intensity of her voice, Wolverine's headache had lasted several days. That day, she had been given the name, Screech.

She knew Camile meant well, she was her best friend after all, but the name served as a constant reminder of her abilities. Her so-called gift, was beginning to become more and more like a curse. The Professor would have frowned at that comment.

"Emily, are you sure that you're alright? You've been spacing out all day,"

Jon was growing more concerned, she knew him well enough, if she didn't confess soon , he'd report it to the Professor. She couldn't possibly blame him for that.

"You can tell me anything Emily, I'll understand,"

She pointed to her head.

"You're thinking? Oh, okay, what about?"

She gave him a look.

"Your powers? Do you want to be alone? I could go if you-"

She tugged at his sleeve, then lay her head against his lap.

"If you insist,"

She let out a silent giggle, she had mastered the technique over the years. She had to remain cautious, with laughter, sneezes, even coughs. At least she had some friends to get her through her troubles.

"After all this mutant-protest stuff we've been through, it feels good to just sit outside and enjoy the heat,"

Emily snuggled into his lap. She could practically feel Jon's smile. It felt as warm as the hot sun they were sitting under. It felt good, the sun's heat, as it rested in the sky, pausing as if to face them, and only them.

"I wonder what the others are doing,"

Emily's thoughts were interrupted once again. The mansion was mostly empty today. Everyone had gone somewhere, whether it were the movie theater, or the mall. Only five kids had stayed home, Emily and her partner included. Camile, Jamie, and Thomas were probably sparring in the Danger Room.

Usually Jon would have joined them, but today, things were different. Emily hadn't dragged him outside, he had willingly come with her, something she acknowledged him for. She allowed herself a small smile, out of everyone in the institute, he was the only one, besides Professor Xavier of course, who called her by her name. Mr. Logan called her, Canary, something about her blonde hair and loudmouth. Ororo called her, Dear, just like she did with everyone else. Dr. Hank chose to nickname her, Tweetie, a name she did not mind.

Everyone else called her Screech. There was that one time when Bobby had suggested the name, Loudmouth, that name was immediately dismissed.

"What are you smiling about, you little bat?" Jon asked with a short grin on his face.

After that Halloween fiasco, he had taken to calling her, little bat. It was somewhat of a cute nickname, though she preferred to simple, Emily. She let out another giggle, thinking about how that Halloween had gone so wrong. It had been her first Halloween in years, ever since the day her parents died. The cause of that crash was still unknown...

Emily pushed the thoughts out of her head. Today, was a day to rest, a day for her to enjoy herself. There was no better way to do that than to relax in the sunlight, with a certain friend of hers.

"You know, I really wish I could read your thoughts as well as I could read your eyes,"

The statement would have sounded strange to everyone but her. She giggled a bit harder, letting out a short EEP!

Jon, who hadn't even flinched, laughed.

"Oops," was all he managed to say.

Emily covered her mouth.

"Hmm, you know what I'd like?" he asked.

Emily looked up at him, a look of curiosity on her innocent face.

"A day, maybe even more of complete silence,"

Emily pondered the thought in her head.

There were a few advantages of her inability to speak without causing chaos, it gave her time to think. She could think clearly, and quick, and Jon could too. He had tried a few times to remain silent for a day, and in doing so, he had learned about its abilities. The power of silence.

Not only did it allow you to think clearly, but it gave you a feeling of peace. A feeling of knowing that you're safe and content, a feeling or tranquility.

She and Jon sat there, peacefully, in silence, none daring to say a word. Emily sat up and rested against Jon's shoulder, she could hear an approaching Camile.

"What are you Lovebirds up to?"

"There goes the silence," Jon said.

"What's that supposed to mean?"

Jamie walked up to her side.

"It means you have a mouth louder than Screech," He said.

Camile flicked him.

"What exactly are you guys doing?"

"We're hanging out and enjoying the silence,"

"Sounds boring,"

"You should give it a try Camile, everyone thinks you should give it a try,"

"Shut up,"

"That's the point,"

"Screech, I'm going to murder your boyfriend,"

Thomas suddenly appeared behind the group.

"Hey, hows it going?"

"We're trying to shut up," Jamie replied.

"What?"

"We're trying to enjoy the silence,"

"How's that working for you?"

"Camile won't shut her mouth,"

"I thought so, let me try,"

Thomas sat down in front of them. Camile reluctantly agreed to take the challenge.

"Fine, I'll shut up, if it makes the married couple happy,"

Later that day

"What in the world!?"

"What are they doing?"

"They're just..."

"What Bobby?"

"They're just sitting on the ground..."

"So..."

"Roberto, you don't understand, it may seem normal to just hang out outdoors but..."

"But what?"

"They aren't talking,"

"What's your point,"

"Five kids, two of them our loudest members, it doesn't make sense,"

"So what? Let the kids be kids, you were 13 once,"

"It's not normal...can you make any sense of this, Rahne?"

"Nope,"

"You see, she understands me, there's something wrong with these guys,"

"I was talking about the way you're acting,"

"Shut up, who asked you!"

"Dude, you need to calm down, they're just relaxing,"

"Kids don't relax, they play video games, or watch television,"

"The only thing I'm having trouble understanding is the fact that you just said the full word, television,"

"Oh come on, Jubilee, what do you think?"

"I'm moving out, as soon as possible,"

Emily grinned. Bobby would understand someday...hopefully. Her friends were all seated around her, each one silent, each one enjoying their own thoughts. No one said anything, it was just simple, beautiful silence. She felt a hand on her shoulder and turned. Jon looked at her, a sparkle in his eyes, and a smile on his face. He didn't say anything, he didn't need to, together they all just enjoyed the peace and quiet.

Maybe silence wasn't so bad after all.

Lance: You ripped open my shirt!

Rahne: I was provoked.

Lance: Provoked!? You-

Kae: Calm down Lance, Rahne's in one of her moods.

Rahne: Shut up.

Kae: See?

Rahne: I hate you.

Kae: Love yo-

Rahne: Don't you dare!

Lance: What was that?

Kae: Just a way we like to annoy each other.

Lance: Yeah...anyways, can we get this interview over with? I really, really want to leave.

Kae: Sure, Rahne, would you like to do the hono-

Rahne: ...

Kae: Okay, I'll do it. So Lance, tell us about your past.

Lance: Eh, nothing important, I was an orphan, foster care wasn't fun...

Kae: Anything else?

Lance: I was a bit scrawny as a kid, I used to get bullied a lot...until my mutant powers manifested.

Kae: That explains that edgy behavior, you seem like a rebel.

Lance: I don't like being under somebody else's control.

Kae: Moving on, would you mind explaining your powers.

Lance: Well, I had to have Kitty help hack into a computer to change my bad grades, I'm not that much of a genius, but, I can apparently create seismic waves with my hands.

Kae: Interesting, any downsides? All powers need to have some sort of downside.

Lance: Yep, lets just say that headaches aren't anything new to me, but fortunately, they're beginning to get a little less intense.

Kae: That means you can use your powers more, that's not fortunate for anyone...except you.

Lance: That's right.

Kae: So, about you and Kitty...

Lance: Hey, Kitty was good to me. She was nice, sweet, and unlike a lot of people I've met, she cares about me.

Kae: I heard that you guys had a...um...unique type of relationship.

Lance: If you meant breaking up or making up every other day, then yes. But it's no big deal, she's with Kurt now. He knows how to treat her, and if he doesn't-

Kae: You'll rock his world?

Lance: How did you know?

Kae: You say that like every other day.

Lance: No I don't.

Kae: Yes you do.

Lance: No I don't

Kae: Yes...you do.

Lance: Do not.

Kae: Do too.

Lance: Do...not

Kae: For the love of god Lance, you do.

Lance: No I don't!

Kae: Don't make me angry Lance, you wouldn't like me when I'm angry.

Lance: You're a fourteen year old without powers, what can you do?

Kae: Ah, you forget, I have friends.

Lance: Huh?

Kae: Rahne, sic'em.

Rahne: Happily.

*I'm going to leave out the details of what happened*

Kae: I hope you guys enjoyed this chapter. I was hoping to do one that focuses Emily and her powers...and maybe a bit EmilyxJon. Mission accomplished. The next chapter will definitely have a fight scene, in fact I guess you could say that the entire chapter is a fight scene. Anyways, see you guys later.

*Scream in the distance*

Kae: Man, I really do abuse my fellow guests don't I?

*CRASH*

Kae: Okay, that cage belonged to Fluffy (remember that Cerberus from that Zaeniverse chapter?) and his brothers, gotta go!
