I woke up groggily the next morning with my back aching. I sat up and looked around noticing I was on the floor. 'Why was I on the floor agin?' I questioned myself. I then looked over at my bed and remembered why I was on the floor. How I could have forgotten was beyond me. But it was the morning and I didn't get that great of a rest.
Reasoning behind me being on the ground was because my bed was occupied. By who? Well only my worst enemy and person that's made my life miserable forever. Alex of course, what is that not normal. Well of course it's not normal but I'm not normal so this is to be expected of me.
I just looked at him peacefully sleeping on my bed. It seemed really weird, just seeing him like that. He looked so harmless and weak. It was hard to believe that he is the way he is. I guess you could blame that on his parents. They're the ones who abused him and pushed him to do all those things. I mean yes, he could have made better decisions but when your angry, sad, and afraid you tend to do stupid stuff. I can relate to that.
I looked over at my clock and saw that it was 6:50. That meant I had about an hour an a half to get to school. This would prove to be quite difficult, trying to get Alex through the house without Earl killing him would be a challenge all it's self. But I bet once he hears me out he'll understand, I hope. But I bet everything would be fine , Earl is a very understanding person.
I decided that I had sat on the ground enough and decided to get up. I got to my feet then went over to Alex. I gently shook him trying to wake him. He groaned and started talking gibberish.
"Alex get up." I said to him. He just turned around. So I thought of something that might get him out of bed.
"Oh, hey Earl. What are you doing here?"
That made him shoot up and look franticly around the room. But all he saw was me. He just glared.
"Not funny." He growled.
I chuckled,"I don't know, I think it was a little funny."
He just continued to glare. But it was soon replaced with a slight smile. I became confused at his sudden change in mood. I guess he saw that I was confused and explained why he changed his mood so quickly. Turns out that was the first time in a long time he hadn't had a rude awakening from his parents. Usually he'd get thrown out of bed, literally.
I remember when Phil used to do that to me. It wasn't the most pleasent way to wake up in the morning.
"So how'd you sleep?" I asked him.
"The best sleep I have ever had." he exclaimed.
I just nodded. I honestly wouldn't doudt that it was the best sleep he had ever gotten. When you sleep in the same house as abusive drunks, you tend to not sleep well.
I told him that he better get showered and that I'll give him some cloths to wear. He thanked me then went into the bathroom. As he was in the bathroom I decided to look at my phone. I had a buch of unread texts and missed calls from my friends. Some of the texts said how they were sorry they acted that way and even though it was Alex that no one should be treated like that. I was glad that they saw the errors in their actions. But even if they knew what was wrong didn't mean they'd accept him. No, he still had a lot of trust building to do to make up for everything he has done.
I showered last night so I didn't have to this morning, so I just put on some new cloths and did all the other stuff I needed to do to get ready today. Nothing new, except from the Alex being in my house part. But hey , what could go wrong with this. Worst case senerio Earl freaks out and beats the crap out of Alex. But that doesn't sound to likely, at least not with Earl.
Soon I heard the shower getting turned off telling me that Alex was done. He was in there a little while longer, but I didn't mind the small wait. He soon came out dressed in the cloths I gave him which were a black Aeropostale shirt and some old blue jeans. It kind of suited him. He would usually be wearing something a punk would wear. Not that anything was wrong with that style, I just think this suited him much better.
"Ready to go?" I asked him.
He just nodded, reluctantly, but he was trying to be brave. I didn't really think that anything would go wrong, I mean Jordan was the one who basically led me to kill myself and Earl trusted him. What Alex did wasn't as bad, close, but it wasn't the worst thing that had been done to me.
So off we went, we opened my door and went down the stairs me leading the way. Alex followed slowly behind. I heard Earl mingling around in the kitchen telling me he was getting breakfast ready. I walked my way into the kitchen causally and Alex stayed back and out of sight.
I greeted Earl with a friendly hello and he returned the greeting. He asked me how my day was yesterday since he got home late last night and didn't get the chance to talk to me. I told him it was, eventful.
"How so?" He questioned.
"For starters a new kid moved into town and I get to lead him around the school since he has all the same classes as me." I told him.
"I bet it's the same person who moved into the house a few streets down." Earl said.
"Someone moved in down the street? Hmm, I didn't notice any moving truck."
"I heard some rumors floating around that their house burnt down wherever they came from and they didn't save much stuff. So I guess they could just fit it all in their cars. Don't know why'd they move here after that but that's none of my business. Anyway, what else, I can tell your holding something back." He said looking at me from the corner of his eye.
'Well here goes nothing' I thought to myself.
"It's about Alex…" but I was interrupted by Earl before I could say anymore.
"What did he do this time?" He asked, his anger rising.
"Actually, it wasn't him it was David and the others." I told him.
He turned around and looked at me curiously. I guess he couldn't believe that they would do anything bad, they are all good wolves.
"What'd they do?" He asked obviously sounding worried that they did something stupid.
"Well, they beat the hell out of Alex. And it was bad, he was bleeding heavily, giant bumps on him, gashes on the face. It was a gruesome sight when I got there."
Earl looked disgusted. So I guess that meant he was in my side.
"That's terrible. I know that young man has done some terrible things but that does not give them the right to beat him up like that. No one deserves that. That's just terrible. They'll be lucky not to get sued." He said his voice full of disappointment.
"That's exactly what I thought. So I broke up the fight and took him to my car and patched him up." I told him.
This seemed to gain his complete attention. He turned towards me with wonder in his face.
"Is there anything else you did?" He asked.
I nervously smiled. "Well, you know how I have kind of a talent for reading wolves, well I could tell why Alex is the way he is. The same thing that was wrong with Jordan and what would be wrong with me had I decided to do something different in my life. He has abusive parents. And by the way he acts and just by starring into his eyes I can tell it's really bad."
"What are you trying to say?" Earl questioned.
"I may, or may not have brought him over here to escape his parents." I told him.
His eyes widened at what I said.
"What?" He slightly yelled in anger.
I knew that he would get slightly upset, it wasn't a surprise to me. I would be mad too if someone messed with my sons life. I just needed to convince Earl that everything would be fine.
I motioned for Alex to come out. Reluctantly he stepped out from around the corner, his head looking down at the ground. I saw Earls paw grip around the knife he held more tightly. Im guessing Alex saw that because he flinced when he did.
"Boy, you better give me one good reason for you being here before I kick you out of this house." he sternly said talking to Alex.
Alex tried to say something but all that came out of his mouth was gibberish. Luckily I was there to save him.
"Dad, leave him alone. Like I told you I brought him here after he got the crap beat out of him. I was just being a good person in getting him to a safe place." I said calmly.
"Then why not take him to his house." he asked.
I just groaned in frustration, Earl was being so stubburn. He wasn't like this with Jordan, but Jordan didn't personaly get involved with his life so now it was personal. But Earl just needed to stop acting so childish and just forgive and forget. Wow, looks like the tables have turned for who's the more mature one in the house.
"Dad, if you were listening then you would know why. I know he is abused at home because I know how someone looks when they are beaten by people who are supposed to take care of them. Just look at him, look in his eyes and tell me he hasn't suffered just as much as I have." I said to him just trying to get him to see reason.
Earl looked straight over to Alex, staring straight into eyes. It looked like he was looking right into his soul. Soon his angry glare started to disappear, and was replaced with just a blank stare. He was trying to see the worst of things with Alex but it seemed he just could see any.
He released a deep sigh, looked down, and shook his head out of disbelief. He then looked right over to Alex again.
"Your lucky Humphrey is such a good wolf or else you'd be in a hospital right now. If you do anything else to him after he helped you out of something like that then I will personaly deal with you. Got it." Earl said with a voice of authority.
Alex rapidly nodded his head telling Earl he got the message. Earl them told us to get to school or else we'd be late. I thanked him for understanding and them Alex and I left the house and got into my car. I drove to school and parked the car up at the front. I looked over to Alex and told him to stick close to me and everything would be fine. He nodded his head and we both got out of my car.
We walked down the patio of the school getting weird looks here and there, but nothing either of us weren't used to. I swear if we saw eye to eye when we first me we could have been the best of friends. I don't know what it is about him but he just reminds me a lot of how I used to be.
We soon got to were my friends would always gather up. They hadn't noticed us yet but I was pretty sure they knew that we would soon show up and we would have some talking to do. I cleared my voice getting all of their attention. First they looked over at Alex with a glare. This made him flatten his ears and real back from them, something that supprised us all. I guess that beating showed him that he wasn't the big man around campus anymore. He was now the same as he was at his house, weak and scared.
Then they looked over to me and it was my turn to glare at them with disappoint in my eyes. I knew that they would do something to Alex but I never thought it would be that extream, it was un-wolf like. Just plain out sick. They all sagged their heads as not to make eye contact with me. But Kate and Lilly were confused at what was happening since they weren't there to witness it. They had no idea what was going on.
I was about to say something but was interupted by the bell. That reminded me that I had to show the new kid around.
"This isn't over." I assured them as I walked off.
Now, it is time to see who this new wolf is.
