Blind 28

Here's another update my lovely little readers! As you have noticed, this chapter like the last one is super long. Ok well not SUPER long, but longer than the others. I think It's because I'm getting into the finale of this story and I feel that finishing this story with longer chapters that finally answer SOME of your questions is the best way to go. Why am I answering SOME of your questions in this story? Well because I have plans in the future to answer the rest in future stories. Haha yes... future stories buckle your seatbelts everybody (or grip or screen tightly... I don't care, maybe you guys are reading this in the car so I guess the seat belt line would apply...) Anyways, I'm delving deeper into background stories and practicing dramatic reveals and theatrical writing. Let me know what you guys think! I'm extremely excited to hear from you all! Well enough of my nonsensical jabber, on with the story! :D

Sitting comfortably next to a sleeping Reitana under a tree, To-Yan stretched his back before standing up to observe his surroundings. The two had been traveling for hours toward the Northern Mountains and the warlord was sure that he had created considerable distance between himself and the battlefield where he left his enemy Sesshoumaru. He was quite sure that Kige and Jin had taken care of his "dog problem", but just in case the taiyoukai survived, To-Yan wasn't about to let Sesshoumaru have the last laugh by catching him out in the open. Red eyes of the man caught morning slowly ebbing its way into world and the princess, who was still soundly resting.

"Awaken princess, we must continue moving."

The strong bass tone of the warlord's voice caused the young woman to sit up, but before she could question To-Yan about the remaining distance to their destination, she was forced to her feet by his rough hands.

"Please take care in handling me." She instructed him. Moving on to a different topic, Reitana began to walk beside To-Yan as he pulled her along. "Are your people prepared for our arrival?" She asked.

"Of course," To-Yan replied. "And when we arrive, we shall have our wedding."

He smirked after finishing his last statement, laughing to himself about how well his actual mission progressing. But the navy-haired man's sly smile disappeared as he suddenly became anxious. To-Yan stopped and then looked to both his left and his right. Two things were now simultaneously bothering him. One; he felt a presence possessing high power following him, and two; Reitana was groaning in pain.

Eighteen Years Ago

Three people: a king, a queen holding her newborn baby girl, and a priestess dressed in clothing fit for a noblewoman, are sitting in a grand garden located outside of the Moon Shrine. The priestess is holding a clear, crescent-shaped bottle matching the moon markings etched on both her wrists. Inside the bottle was a small purple orb shrouded in lavender mist. It slowly shifted back and forth in the container as the group spoke amongst themselves.

"Are you sure you want Reitana to hold Uji's sprit?" The priestess asked.

The queen looked down at her sleeping offspring before facing the other woman, a concerned look on her face now showing.

"Will she be ok? Containing such an evil spirit in such a young infant is bound to harm her." The queen questioned.

"The child will survive, however…" The priestess trailed off then looked to each the king and queen before continuing. "Reitana's eyesight must be sacrificed, so she does not wander off because of curiosity. She shall need to be protected at all times, for Uji's servants will come looking to release his soul." She then placed a caring hand on the queen's knee and looked into her tear-streaked brown eyes. "Can I count on you with this responsibility?" The priestess asked.

There was a long silence between the three people but then the king stood up and turned away from the women, a sigh escaping him as he did so. "Yes. Do what needs to be done in order to protect this land… That is an order priestess."

With that, the priestess opened her bottle to seal Uji's spirit. It was a quick process but she had to seal him quick before he found opportunity to escape. With her index and middle fingers, the priestess placed them on baby Reitana's forehead. A small moon tattoo briefly revealed itself on the infant's skin before disappearing.

The priestess watched as the king and queen left with their young child, returning home to live out their new lives as guardians of the terrible demon Uji. She stood up and walked inside the shrine where her assistant waited patiently to hear of the meeting details.

"Were the king and queen cooperative Mistress Iyari?" The young assistant asked.

Iyari nodded her head slowly but she kept her pensive look, choosing not to face her subordinate.

"Something troubles you Milady?"

"This is the third time we had to find a new guardian for Uji's spirit. It seems that every time we find promise in the carrier, his servants manage to find and free him. I can only pray that keeping Uji locked in the body of a child hailing from a lesser-known kingdom will buy me time to complete and perfect the unbreakable seal." Iyari replied.

"I understand Milady. Why not use m-"
"No. We have spoken of this matter once before. You are not ready and your demonic origins make it impossible for your body to withstand the purity of the seal for very long. If anything it would slowly kill you over time and I will be right back at square one trying to find a new vessel and a new apprentice." Just then, Iyari realized the harshness of her words and she turned to face her assistant who, despite the priestess's coldness at times, remained standing at attention. Iyari went to cup the younger's cheek in her palm, stroking it like a mother soothing her child. "I apologize for the venom in my words young apprentice. It is just… I can't stand the thought of my most loyal and trusted friend dying because of my rash decisions, so I must be firm in my decision to keep you from harm's way."

The apprentice sighed and cracked a small smile. Her face clearly showing disappointment, but the younger woman nodded. "I understand Milady. I will go and prepare us lunch now before I start my training."

As Iyari watched the woman scamper off deeper into the shrine, the priestess took a seat underneath the sacred statue of the moon and began meditating.

'I only wish for your safety, dear apprentice.' Iyari thought. 'Not just your safety, but the safety of our home, the shrine, and those who live among us. No one must know where Uji's spirit lies. For this, I've come to the decision…

'That I must set you free…

'Memories of your experiences here and of me must be erased…

'I cannot allow your life to be in endangered because of your association to me. Uji's followers will not stop until opposition is eradicated and their leader is set free…

'Though you will no longer have any knowledge of my existence, I sincerely hope you forgive me…

'I'm sorry Kige'

Present Day

To-Yan growled out in fury as Reitana's groans escalated to high banshee-like screams. He looked left and right, suddenly feeling the high-powered presence coming in their direction much quicker than before. In a panic, To-Yan picked up the screaming girl and ordered her to stop her yelling.

"If you don't stop your shouting this instance, I will silence you forever! Why do you cry out in such a manner woman!?" The warlord barked.

"M-My head! My head! It hurts! Ahhhh!" Reitana shouted. "Help me!"

"Arg! You insufferable-"

To-Yan words were suddenly cut off as a blast of white light suddenly hit the ground by his feet. He jumped away from Reitana instinctively and glared in the direction of the attack. Two more shots were fired causing the man dodge and thus distancing himself further away from the screaming Reitana.

"What are you doing here!?" A woman's voice called from within the trees. "And why do you have the Princess!?"

"I answer to no one!" To-Yan called back, "Especially to a woman!"

Just then, said woman revealed herself from the shadows of the forest. She stood next to Reitana, the princess doubled over on the floor in pain at this point, and looked sternly into To-Yan's angry red eyes.

"Well today see me not as a mere woman. See me as Iyari!

"The demon priestess of the Moon Shrine!"

Thanks for reading guys! :3
