Chapter Twenty-Eight.

A/N: Here's the next chapter guys! Hope you like it, thanks for reading!

Rebekah's POV

"So have you made up your mind yet Elijah?" I ask sitting down across from him at the table. Caroline and Klaus have just left for a tour of the town so I know we've got at least an hour to discuss how to handle Yetta's disappearance.

"I think we should tell him, he's going to find out eventually, he want so introduce her to Caroline." Elijah responds a little hesitantly as if he is unsure if he really means what he's saying.

"That's what I think. Chances are he's not going to take it all that well, but I think he'll take it better if he finds out from us rather than from someone else. Plus if we leave it too long and he finds out we've been keeping it from him he'll be livid." I say.

"Ok so we tell him. But...how exactly do we do that? I mean it's not exactly something we can just drop into a conversation" Hayley says. 'Hey how was your day? Did you have a good time showing Caroline the sites? Oh by the way Yetta's run off and we have no idea where she is. I'm making coffee would you like some?' I can totally see that working." she continues sarcastically.

"That's going to be the tough part, figuring out how to break the news to him and we have to figure it out soon because the longer we leave it the worse the fall out is going to be." I say

"So do we tell him we've known for a few weeks or pretend that we only just found out she's gone?" Hayley asks.

"Well he has a way of finding out the truth so we should probably tell him everything. Besides if she ever comes back she'll tell him everything because that's just how they are with each other." I say.

"Do you think she will come back?" she asks.

"I honestly don't know, I hope she will but if Caroline sticks around I honestly can't see that ever happening. Yetta coming back I mean, Caroline sticking around seems to be pretty much inevitable unfortunately." I say.

"Especially if he keeps showering her with money and giving her what she wants." Hayley comments.

"She's such a gold digger, she just sees him as a massive dollar sign with a chequebook." I say.

"Are you sure about that? Maybe she has genuine feelings for him and you are just assuming the worst because you dislike her." Elijah says.

"I am not assuming the worst because I don't like her, I'm basing my assessment of her on all the times I have seen the two of them together. She has never once looked at him the way Yetta does. Caroline looks at him like he's something she wants to scrape off the bottom of her shoe, or likes he's some foul creature that crawled up out of a hole in the ground. Yetta looks at him like he's her salvation, anyone who has spent any amount of time around the two of them can tell they are madly in love with each other. Even you can't deny that Elijah. You know as well as I do that Henrietta is a much better match for him than Caroline could ever be." I say.

"I do agree that Henrietta is a better match for him than Caroline, but there is no guarantee that Yetta is going to come back so maybe driving Caroline away isn't the best tactic." he says.

"Oh right so because Yetta's gone we just give up on her? Pretend she doesn't exist anymore and act like this relationship he's starting with Caroline is a good thing?" I ask.

"Maybe, for a little while at least. Despite what you may think of her she does make Niklaus happy, and that might come in handy when we tell him that Yetta is gone." he says.

"You'd really love it if she stayed gone wouldn't you? Do you even want her to come back? Or are you secretly hoping and praying that she has gone for good this time?" I demand with a snarl.

"I never said I don't want her to come back and if you recall I agreed with you that she is a better match for him than Caroline. But that doesn't mean I have to like every aspect of her personality, she has the same tendency towards violence as him and I am afraid that they will just encourage each other." he says

"She likes to make heads roll sure, but she usually only resorts to violence when all else has failed. Plus, she knows him better than anyone, better than we do even and definitely better than that little blonde tart." I say. "And she can calm him down better than anyone else, we've all seen it."

"That's true I guess, but she also has a stubborn streak and if she gets it in her head to do something she will not stop till she has done it. He has that same streak in him, what if they both decide to do the same crazy thing? It's bad enough when he comes up with crazy schemes let alone having her as his little helper." he says.

"Ok first of all, she's not his little anything. The girl can hold her own, and she's not afraid to stand up to him which is more than I can say for most of the rest of the world. Even Marcellus wouldn't take him on when he's in his hybrid mode. But Yetta will and is probably pretty much the only one who could challenge him and live to talk about it." I say.

"But she isn't here and we have no idea where she is" he says.

"Yes she is gone, but I think she will come back. It may not be right away but she loves him too much to stay away." I say.

"Are you sure about that?" he asks

"Well…no but I…I hope she does. They're perfect for each other, or as perfect as any couple could be, they accept each other how they are. Caroline wants to change Klaus, that's not what real love is all about. Real love is accepting someone flaws and all. At least that is the way I see it." I say.

"It can also be about encouraging someone to be the best that they can be" he says.

"She'd do that to. She already has without even realizing it. Didn't you notice how he was less angry when she was around? Less likely to snap or lash out?" I ask. "He was more relaxed and not always worrying about the next problem or the next threat like he usually does."

"So are we going to try and get him away from Caroline before we tell him about Yetta being gone?" Hayley asks.

"I don't think it will make much difference to be honest, he's not going to be happy about it, so the way he finds out probably won't matter. Although if Caroline is there she might get pissy when he reacts badly to Yetta being gone and that could cause him to realize that she's just a selfish little bitch who cares about no-one but herself."

"Do we want to tell him today? Or wait until he's in a good mood and break it to him then?" Hayley asks.

"If we can tell him today yeah I think that would be best. As I said the longer we leave it the harder it's going to be." I say.

"Do you have a plan of how to approach the subject?" Hayley asks.

"Not really, but we have to tell him. He saved her life all those years ago, kept her safe, gave her a place to live and eventually turned her into a vampire she's his best friend no matter how hung up he is on Caroline sooner or later he's going to figure out she's gone and when he does he's not going to be happy." I say.

"Could we maybe just like…give him the letter she left in her room?" Elijah asks.

"I guess we could to that, he's probably not going to believe she's gone if he doesn't get it from her anyway and he knows none of us can copy her handwriting or forge her signature, plus she signed it in her own blood and he knows what her blood smells like so he'll know it's not a forgery." I say.

"Why would he think it was a forgery?" Hayley asks.

"Because once I tried to split them up by telling Henrietta that he despised her and never wanted to see her again causing her to leave without saying a word to him, then writing a letter explaining that she couldn't be around him anymore and was going to start her own life and forging her signature at the bottom." Elijah says.

"You tried to break them up? Why would you do that?" Hayley asks the shock evident in her tone and facial expression.

Elijah meets her gaze with a shrug before answering. "I didn't think they were a good match for each other, when she became a vampire she was ruthless and blood-thirsty. She killed without remorse, threatened anyone who dared to question her life-style and went around terrorizing humans for fun. She was a ruthless killing machine with no shred of humanity and Klaus wasn't doing anything about it, I thought it was best for both of them if I got them away from each other."

"And how did that work out for you?" Hayley asks.

"Not very well, he was angry when he found out I was the reason she left. It didn't help that she almost got killed by one of the five just a few days later." he says. "Fortunately for me Klaus managed to intervene and rescue her before she got injured to badly, that being said it took almost a week for her to recover during which time he informed me that if anything were to happen to her he would personally drive a stake through my heart."
